BODY PANEL OF THE PASSENGERS IS ALL SCRATCHED AND THEIR IS CAMERAS IN MY BUILDING COMPLEX AND I TOLD THE OWNER TO CHECK THEM AND HE SAID IT WASN'T HIS PROBLEM AND NOW I'M SEEING MORE SCRATCHES AND I TOLD HIM AGAIN AND HE TOLD ME TO PARK OUTSIDE NOW NOT INSIDE WHEN I'M ACTUALLY PAYING $50 FOR THE PARKING EVERY MONTH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD VEER TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A SECTION OF THE SUB FRAME LOCATED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED DUE TO FLUID DRAINING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAINAGE PIPE ONTO THE SUB FRAME. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 161,000.
UPON ROUTINE BRAKE INSPECTION VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO PASSENGER SUB FRAME THAT HAS CRACKED DUE TO RUST. SUB FRAME IS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE PLACES. *TR
UPON SERVICING FRONT BRAKES, SAFETY INSPECTION REVEALED ACCELERATED CORROSION OFF THE PASSENGER SIDE SUB FRAME COMPONENT. THE DRIVER SIDE IS SOLID AND INTACT. DEEMED UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY USE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 231,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 210,000.
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, IT SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AND SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO RESTART IT AGAIN, WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND YOU, WHO COULD SUDDENLY REAR-END YOU, WHEN NOT EXPECTING YOUR CAR TO SHUT OFF, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! THIS IS AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM THAT WAS A RECALL. HONDA HAS "FIXED" THIS PART THE FIRST TIME, AND REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE RECALL THE SECOND TIME. CAN I BE ANY LESS DEAD THE 2ND TIME? HONDA NEEDS TO REIMBURSE FOR EVERY BAD, DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE THAT RESULTS IN A CAR THAT SHUTS OFF! APPARENTLY, THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND COULD BE LIFE-THREATENING! *TR
WHILE I WAS CHANGING THE PASSENGER SIDE DRIVE AXLE OF A BROKEN CV JOINT BOOT LAST YEAR (JULY 2014), I NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED OUT (ABOUT 60% CAME THROUGH AND OFF WHEN I PUNCHED THE AREA WITH A SCREW DRIVER) WHERE THE STABILIZING BAR BRACKET AND LOWER CONTROL ARM PIVOT ARE MOUNTED TO THE FRAME. THE PROBLEM AREA OF THE SUBFRAME IS RIGHT UNDER THE DRAIN HOLE FOR THE A/C EVAPORATOR. THE SUBFRAME TO THE DRIVER SIDE IS CLEAN AND HAS NO RUST ISSUE. THE LOCATION OF THE RUST AREA SUGGESTS THAT IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE DRAIN HOLE OF THE A/C SYSTEM OR/AND SOMETHING SIMILAR (SUCH AS RAIN) THAT HAD LED TO WATER STAYING IN THE AREA. THE RUST IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. I CHECKED IT TODAY (JULY 23, 2015) AFTER NOTICING YELLOWISH DRIPPING MARKS LEFT ON THE DRIVER WAY. MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE WHEN THERE WAS A HEAVY RAIN. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE DRIVE WAY (UP HILL ABOUT 15 DEGREES) OVER NIGHT. WHEN SHE PULLED THE CAR OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY THE NEXT DAY, WE SAW YELLOWISH WATER DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE CAR. SO, I LOOKED AT THE AREA. FOR SURE, IT'S GETTING WORSE THAN LAST YEAR. I PUNCHED AROUND AND GOT ABOUT A COUPLE OF SPOONFULS OF RUST OFF THE FRAME. I USED MY PRY BAR TO PRY AROUND THE AREA AND I CAN SEE THAT THE FRAME IS GETTING VERY WEAK. NOW I CAN SEE THE RUST IS PROGRESSING OVER TIME. AS THE AREA IS GETTING MORE RUSTED, THE STRUCTURE IS LOSING ITS STRENGTH. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND/OR THE STABILIZING BAR WILL COME OFF THE FRAME, CAUSING DISASTER ON THE ROAD. I SEARCHED THE INERNET ON THE ISSUE ("HONDA ACCORD SUBFRAME RUST"). THE ISSUE SEEMS VERY COMMON. THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW (A/C DRAIN OR RAIN WATER) WITH THE CAR. IT SEEMS THAT THE ISSUE HAD NOT BEEN UNDERSTOOD AND TAKEN CARE OF BY HONDA. I AM URGING SOMEBODY LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE AND HAVE HONDA DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. THANKS.
I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD WHEN I CALL HONDA TO LET THEM KNOW MY CAR IS STALLING WHILE DRIVING THEY TELL ME THIS IS NOT A COVERED RECALL ON MY CERTAIN CAR FOR MY VIN ALSO THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE NOT COVERED BUT THEY HAVE A RECALL FOR THE PARTS ON LINE FOR OTHER 1998 CARS BUT IT IS CRAZY NEITHER OF THESE ITEMS ARE COVERED ON MY CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 192,442. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT SUB FRAME WAS BADLY RUSTED. I CALLED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY COULD REPLACE THE SUB FRAME, BUT THEY REFERRED ME TO AN AUTOBODY SHOP, AS THEY COULDN'T DO THE WORK AT THE DEALERSHIP. I THEN GOT A SECOND OPINION AT ANOTHER SHOP. THEY SAID THAT I WOULD PROBABLY ONLY HAVE A FEW MONTHS LEFT BEFORE THE SUB FRAME BROKE FROM THE RUSTING. RUST IS ONLY A PROBLEM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NOT THE DRIVERS SIDE, DESPITE LIVING IN A NORTHERN AREA AND PARKING ON THE STREET YEAR ROUND. HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE MUCH SINCE SUMMER 2014 AND AM STILL TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER TO REPLACE THE SUB FRAME OR SCRAP THE CAR, WHICH IS OTHERWISE FINE. *TR

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SUBFRAME AND ENGINE CRADLE WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

NOTED EXCESSIVE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN AND IMMEDIATELY OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE, AND LATER DETERMINED GASOLINE MILEAGE HAD DROPPED DRAMATICALLY FROM 30+ MPG TO 18 MPG. UPON SECURING THE FIRST AVAILABLE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK FROM MY LOCAL MECHANIC IT WAS DETERMINED THERE WAS "FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP AREA OF FUEL TANK, BUT MANY ITEMS WOULD HAVE TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE WAY TO LOWER THE FUEL TANK TO MAKE A MORE SPECIFIC LOCATION OF THE SITE AND CAUSE OF THE LEAK, WHICH WOULD BE LABOR INTENSIVE AND COSTLY BECAUSE THE ENTIRE REAR CRADLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED WITH THE DANGER THAT OLD RUSTING BOLTS WOULD BREAK AND MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO BE REPLACED. POSSIBLE ITEMS THAT MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED, INCLUDE THE FUEL TANK, FUEL FILLER NECK AND FUEL PUMP." *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL STUD WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 240,000.

AFTER HEARING AND FEELING A CRACKING SOUND AND THEN INSPECTING UNDER THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME OF THE CAR WAS RUSTED THRU AND A VISIBLE SEPARATION OF THE SUBFRAME. THE POINT OF THE RUST THRU IS AT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR CORNER OF THE VEHICLE'S SUBFRAME. THE CAR IS AT THE MECHANIC'S BEING REPAIRED, HE STATED THE CAUSE IS THE DRAIN HOSE FOR CONDENSATION FROM THE AC AT THAT LOCATION. THIS CAR HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT VEHICLE THROUGHOUT. THIS RUST THRU OF THE SUBFRAME COULD HAVE CAUSED A ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED THE REPAIRS FOR NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V423000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,248.
MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD WOULD RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. INCIDENT WOULD HAPPEN ANYTIME, ANY DAY, WEATHER CONDITION, ON ANY ROAD (HIGHWAY, INTERSTATES, ETC). HAS HAPPENS OVER 100 TIMES. I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, OR EVEN STOP THE BRAKES. EVERYTHING FAILED ON HUGE ROADS AND INTERSECTIONS WHERE MY CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE IN FRONT OF A WHOLE LANE OF TRAFFIC. ENDED UP FINDING OUT THAT THERE WAS RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH. I CALLED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF IT HAS BEEN SERVICED. IT "WAS". I REPLACED THE PART MYSELF AND NOW MY CAR HAS HAD A COUPLE GOOD TRIPS. BUT IF I WOULD OF TAKEN IT TO HONDA, THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME WHICH IS RIDICULOUS, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD OF RECALLED IT TWICE LIKE OTHER PEOPLE I READ ABOUT. *TR

TOOK 1998 HONDA ACCORD TO MECHANIC FOR CHECK ON BUMPING NOISE IN PASSENGER FRONT TIRE AREA. TOLD THAT THE SUBFRAME RUSTED AND ROTTED OUT. MECHANIC SAID IT IS BECAUSE THE AC DRAIN HOSE IS LEAKING ONTO PASSENGER FRONT SUBFRAME. MUST REPLACE SUBFRAME. MECHANIC SAID IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE (02V120000) FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. HONDA SAYS THOSE COVERED BY THAT RECALL HAD A DIFFERENT IGNITION SWITCH. WELL GUESS WHAT, THEY NEED TO INCLUDE MINE TOO! *TR
FAILED CLEAR COAT AND FADED PAINT WERE THE FIRST PROBLEMS TO OCCUR WITH MY SILVER HONDA ACCORD. NEXT WAS THE GAS TANK LEAK, WHERE FUMES AND LEAKED GAS COULD BE SMELLED AND SEEN ON THE GROUND WHEN FILLING THE TANK MORE THAN HALF FULL. FINALLY MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SUBFRAME REAR CROSS MEMBER RUSTED THRU AND NOW THE CAR ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AND WON'T PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT MAJOR REPAIRS TO THE FRAME. NONE OF THE REST OF THE UNDER BODY IS RUSTED, JUST THAT SECTION. NOT HAPPY! *TR
A CLUNKING NOISE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE AND IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SUB FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENTIRE SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. *TR
1998 HONDA ACCORD: VEHICLE LOST POWER SEVERAL TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MOTOR STOPPED, POWERS STEERING AND BRAKES LOST, GAUGE NEEDLES SPUN TO ZERO, AS IF CAR WAS SHUT OFF AT DURING NORMAL OPERATION. THEY CHARGED ME $186.26 TO REPLACED DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND THEY ADVISED THEY FIX A RECALL FOR SWITCH INTERLOCK WHILE CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR FOUR DAYS! WAS DRIVING VEHICLE (1998 ACCORD LX 4 CYLINDER) WHEN A LOUD THUMP WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION. PUT THE VEHICLE UP ON RAMPS TO INSPECT AND THE FRONT SUBFRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE HOLDING THE SWAY BAR WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND ROTTED/RUSTED OUT. PRIOR VISUAL INSPECTION NEVER SHOWED THE ISSUE AS THE RUSTING WAS TAKING PLACE FROM ON TOP OF THE SUBFRAME. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 49,765 MILES ON IT AND THE FRAME SHOULD NOT BE FAILING IN THIS MAGNITUDE. *TR

THE CAR ENGINE WOULD TURN OFF WITH OUT WARNING INTERMITTENTLY. THE PROBLEM WAS INCREASING IN FREQUENCY, SO WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING IT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY TURNED OFF ON THE INTERSTATE. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND THEN WE CALLED A TOWING COMPANY FOR FEAR IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, BUT WE WERE INFORMED BY THE HONDA DEALER THAT THIS PARTICULAR CAR HAD UNDERGONE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH IN 2002. *TR
RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME CROSSMEMBER HAS SUFFERED SEVER CORROSION DUE TO POOR A/C DRAIN VALVE LOCATION. DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE INTO THE LOWER CONTROL ARM HOUSING, AND CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED AS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
I HAVE HAD SO MANY CORROSION ISSUES WITH THIS CAR, IT IS STRUCTURALLY DANGEROUS. THE CAR HAS 160,000 MILES ON IT BUT HAS BEEN KEPT IN A GARAGE AND HAS HAD THE UNDER CARRIAGE FREQUENTLY WASHED SINCE I LIVE IN THE NORTHEASTERN US. IN THE LAST 2 YEARS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS LINES DO TO CORROSION. THE GAS LINE RUPTURED DURING A DRIVE. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE. THE GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS REPLACED. IT WAS LEAKING FOR SOME TIME. THE LEAK WAS NEAR THE HALF WAY MARK AND ONLY LEAKED WHEN OVER HALF FULL AND DURING DRIVING OR GOING UP HILL. FORTUNATELY WE DID NOT HAVE A FIRE. I JUST FOUND OUT THE FRONT SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION THIS YEAR. BODY RUST IS MINIMAL AND NORMAL FOR AGE AND THE NORTHEAST WINTERS. THE CLEAR COAT IS PEALING OFF EVERYWHERE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY FIRST AND PROBABLY ONLY HONDA. THIS IS MY SECOND HONDA I OWNED AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH MY SECOND HONDA'S TRANSMISSION PROBLEM FOR A ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW. I FIRST NOTICED A SLIPPING AND A DELAY IN SPEED WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE IT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE BUT THEN IT STARTED TO SLIP MORE SEVERELY TO THE POINT I ALMOST WRECKED TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THIS CAR HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. HE SAID IT WAS A SHIFT SOLENOID, $365 DOLLARS LATER JUST FOR THE PART ALONE, NO FIX. THE SAME SLIPPING AND JERKING CONTINUED. I HAVE LOOKED FOR A GOOD PRICE FOR A TRANSMISSION AND IT COST ABOUT $1,800> TO GET A THE TRANSMISSION INSTALLED WITH LABOR. A PRICE THAT I AM NOT WILLING TO PAY. HAPPENED 3 OR 4 TIMES, SOMETIMES AT FREEWAY SPEED, CAR RESTARTED FROM NEUTRAL A FEW MINUTES LATER. TAKEN TO HONDA DEALER & DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY TRANSMISSION MODULE, REPLACED FOR $450. YET THE PROBLEM JUST RECURRED NOT LONG AFTER THAT REPAIR. THIS CREATES A SERIOUS ROAD HAZARD & POTENTIAL FOR CRASH & SERIOUS INJURY, AS SUDDENLY & WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN & CANNOT BE CONTROLLED WITH ANY ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING OR NORMAL BRAKING. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY, SINCE NEW, PER RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE WITH HONDA DEALERSHIPS. I RECENTLY ENCOUNTERED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH MY 1998 ACCORD. ONE DAY WHEN DRIVING HOME, I NOTICED THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. I HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD KEPT DRIVING IT IN THIS CONDITION AND HIT A LARGE BUMP. AFTER RESEARCHING PARTS FOR IT, I DISCOVERED THE MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, AND ALSO FOUND OUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. APPARENTLY THE AC DRAIN LINES LEAK AND RUST OUT THE SUBFRAME OVER TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND HONDA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. 1998 HONDA ACCORD COMPLETE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 91,150 MILES. INCIDENT BELOW RESULTED IN NEAR COLLISION WHEN MY VEHICLE PULLED OUT TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. OTHER VEHICLE HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID SIDE COLLISION. I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD LX, 4- DOOR, 4 CYLINDER, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AT APPROXIMATELY 91,000 MILES, I NOTICED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED TO "SLIP" SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR INTO SECOND GEAR, ESPECIALLY RIGHT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS JUST STARTED. THIS ISSUE WOULD GET WORSE UNDER MEDIUM TO HEAVY ACCELERATION. HAVING HAD ANOTHER 1997 HONDA ACCORD LX, 2 DOOR, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THAT FAILED AT 66,000 MILES, I SUSPECTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING ON THIS 1998 HONDA ACCORD LX. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COTTMAN TRANSMISSION FOR EVALUATION, AND THE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING UP THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING. THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE SEVERE "SLIPPAGE" FROM FIRST INTO SECOND GEAR AND RAN DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ON ALL THE ELECTRIC COMPONENTS, INCLUDING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SOLENOIDS. UPON COMPLETION AND ADDITIONAL EXAMINATION OF THE PROBLEM, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING, AND REQUIRED A TOTAL REBUILD. ONCE THE HONDA ACCORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REMOVED FROM THE HONDA ACCORD AND TAKEN APART, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE INTERNAL METAL FILTER WAS PLUGGED WITH METAL SAVINGS, THE CLUTCH BANDS WERE BURNED, AND AN INTERNAL ELECTRIC SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. EXPECT NO HELP AND/OR COMPENSATION FROM HONDA CORPORATION AS PURSING THAT ROUTE HAS BEEN FUTILE. ON THE DATE SPECIFIED ABOVE UP TO THE CURRENT DATE 11/14/2012 I [XXX]HAVE HAD THIS 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS CAR'S TAKE OFF SPEED. MY ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON UNTIL LATER INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION SOMEWHERE. I PULLED OUT MY CODE READER AND HOOKED IT TO THE OBD OUTLET ON MY CAR AND IT INDICATED, LOW TORQUE SHIFT SOLENOID CIRCUIT. I CHECKED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANY OTHER HONDA OWNERS HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR HONDA ACCORDS, AND IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT HONDA HAS HAD THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF THEIR TRANSMISSIONS ON THE ACCORDS FROM YEAR MODELS 1998-2002. HOWEVER, SO FAR FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE WEB THEIR HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR FIRES REPORTED YET. I AM URGING THE NHTSA OR SAFERCAR.GOV TO IMMEDIATELY INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. ALTHOUGH MY CAR IS A 1998 MODEL, THEIR HAVE BEEN CUSTOMERS WHOM HAVE HAD THEIR VEHICLES HAVE TRANSMISSION FAILURES WITH MILEAGE AS LOW AS 56000. ON MY WAY TO WORK I WAS DRIVING AT 45MPH AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I NOTICED AS IT SLOWED DOWN THE IGNITION KEY LIGHT WAS FLASHED. FIVE MINS LATER THE CAR CAME BACK ON AND I TOOK IT TO SEVERAL AUTO SHOPS AND THEY COULDN'T DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. FOR A MONTH THIS PROBLEM SEEMED TO STOP ALL TOGETHER. RECENTLY IT DID THIS STOPPING WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY BUT DIDN'T COME BACK ON. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO GOODYEAR VESPIA AUTO SHOP. HERE THEY DETERMINED THAT SOMETHING MIGHT BE WRONG WITH THE CAR'S COMPUTER. DURING A TEST DRIVE THE CAR SHUT OFF ON THE MECHANIC HE PLACE THE CODE INDICATOR TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND HERE HE DISCOVERED THAT CAR'S COMPUTER WAS DEAD AGAIN HE WAITING 10MINS AND THE CAR CAME BACK ON WITHOUT ANY INDICATION FOR ITS SHUTTING OFF. *JS
