DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES AN HOUR IN 45 MPH ZONE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO 45 MPH, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. VEHICLE CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. I HAD TURN OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED ENGINE AND CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO 30 MPH AND DROVE 2 MILES HOME. NEXT DAY I DROVE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALER. VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR TWICE, EACH TIME WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHER SPEED LIMITS. HONDA DEALER HAS CALLED TO TELL ME IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. WILL RECEIVE PRICE QUOTE ON 4/23/12. *JS
WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 40MPH THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY ACTED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR ANYTHING THAT SHOWED A FAILURE OF ANY KIND. I SLOWLY NURSED IT TO MY HONDA DEALER WHO CHECKED IT OUT (CHARGED $108 JUST TO TELL ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD COST $4400.) I TOOK IT TO AAMCO WHO SAID BASICALLY THE SAME THING BUT CHARGED ONLY $2900. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 ACCORD V6 5SP TRANSMISSION. HONDA SEEMS TO DENY THERE IS A PROBLEM...HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS SAY OTHERWISE. *TR
TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO EVERY REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE VISIT AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, INCLUDING A VISIT ONE MONTH AGO. THE TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. I ALMOST CAUSED A CAR CRASH INVOLVING MULTIPLE CARS DUE TO THE ABRUPT FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. *JS
HONDA ACCORD JUST STOPPED WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. MADE A GRINDING SOUND WHEN TRIED TO RESTART. FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED ON OUR COURT. *TR
STARTING THE CAR FROM A STOPPING POINT AND SLOWLY INCREASING THE SPEED TO 40 WILL RESULT IN SLIGHT JERKS IN THE CAR. AS THE SPEED INCREASE BEYOND 45 INTO THE 60 THE CAR WILL JERK REPEATEDLY AND TRY TO SHIFT DOWN. RPM REVS INTO THE 5 OR 6 ZONE, NEAR REDLINING WHILE ONLY GOING 40 MPH. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL SHIFT DOWN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING CAR TO JERK DRIVER FORWARD. COULD LEAD TO MAJOR CAR WRECK. THIS CAR MODEL ALREADY HAD A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WAS FIXED BY HONDA, YET IT SEEMS TO HAVE ANOTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUE NOW.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THE CAR SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO VIOLENTLY REDUCE SPEED FROM 30MPH TO 5MPH. DUE TO THIS JERK OF MOTION, THE CAR WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT I WAS WITHIN A MILE OF THE I-66 HIGHWAY ON-RAMP AND COULD HAVE NOT ONLY BEEN SEVERELY REAR-ENDED AND INJURED BUT A MAJOR ACCIDENT COULD HAVE ALSO OCCURRED. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION *TGW IN APRIL 2004, A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY PERFORMED A REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS NOW A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND NOT GOING INTO GEAR. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE GOING INTO 2ND GEAR WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS FOR IN 2004. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE FIX THAT WAS DONE, WAS JUST A TEMPORARY FIX AND THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED.*JB
THE VERY FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AGO. WHEN PARKED, THE RPMS WOULD SUDDENLY JUMP TO 2000 WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE GAS, THEN IT WOULD GO BACK TO NORMAL. MY MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP CAME ON BRIEFLY ABOUT A MONTH AGO, AND THEN WENT OFF. THE MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON A WEEK AFTER THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP, AND NOW BLINKS EVERYTIME I TURN MY CAR ON. I WAS DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AT A RANGE OF SPEED BETWEEN 0 TO 50MPH. VERY SUDDENLY, THE RPMS SHOT UP TO 6000, AND IT VIOLENTLY JERKED AS THOUGH I WAS SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. THERE WAS A BURNT RUBBER SMELL RIGHT AFTERWARDS. THE LONGER I DROVE, THE MORE FREQUENTLY IT HAPPENED. IF I DIDN'T HAVE MY SEATBELT ON, MY HEAD WOULD HAVE SMACKED THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND SEVERAL TIMES. NOW EVEN WHEN I AM DRIVING FOR A SHORT DISTANCE AND TIME, THE RPMS ARE HIGHER THAN NORMAL, AND THEN THE VIOLENT JERKING BEGINS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON A RAMP, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BEGAN TO SLIDE BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SPRINGS ON THE SEAT FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE SEAT ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000. UPDATED 04/19/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE STORING SPRING WAS MISSING. UPDATED 05/07/12
THIS CAR HAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND THE CLEAR COAT IS COMING OFF. IT WILL NEED TO BE REPAINTED. *TR
THE INTERNAL LIGHTING FOR THE STEREO/CLIMATE CONTROL HAS FAILED. THE BUTTONS NO LONGER LIGHT UP AND THE DISPLAY SCREEN IS SO DIM THAT IT CANNOT BE READ EXCEPT FROM ABOUT 3CM AWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE CLIMATE CONTROL AT NIGHT, SAY IF THE WINDOWS WERE FOGGING UP AND YOU NEEDED TO DEFROST QUICKLY. *TR
TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS FROM 4TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR ABRUPTLY AND WILL NOT RE-ENGAGE 4TH GEAR UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. THIS OCCURRED TODAY ON MY WAY HOME ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, IT HAPPEN 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WENT HOME ON 1ST GEAR LOCALLY. I CAME REAL CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED A TRUCK DUE TO THE SUDDEN DOWNSHIFT OF THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTS WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 63MPH AND MY CAR SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING ME TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND BLEED PROFUSELY FROM MY FACE. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. NOW MY CAR HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR AND IS DOWNSHIFTING RANDOMLY. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS. I COULD HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THIS, THE WORST PART IS THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WONT HELP SAVE LIVES. SHAME ON YOU HONDA. MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS QUITE WIDESPREAD. PERHAPS HONDA WILL GET INVOLVED ONCE ENOUGH PEOPLE DIE, AND IT WILL BE CHEAPER TO REPLACE ALL OF THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS VS. ALL OF THE MONEY PEOPLE GET FROM LAWSUITS. OR POSSIBLY HONDA WILL VALUE LIVES OVER PROFITS, BUT IM NOT GOING TO HOLD MY BREATH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON I-4 CARS BEGUN TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF AND THEM DECELERATE, KEEP DOING THIS FOR 30 SECOND, I STOPPED ON THE SIDE TURN OF THE CAR. AGAIN TURN ON KEEP GOING AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN., HONDA ACCORD 3.0 V6 2003. *TR
CAR JUST WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN A FORWARD GEAR ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE JUST REVVED AND WOULD NOT MOVE INTO GEAR. THERE WAS NO WARNING. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD EX, THE RADIO AND THE A/C WORK, BUT YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING ON THE RADIO DISPLAY, AND THE BACKLIGHT FOR THE A/C PANEL DO NOT WORK, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL BUTTONS SUCH AS THE ONE FOR THE COMPRESSOR, THAT WILL COME ON WHEN YOU PUSH IT IN. THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIO DISPLAY HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 7 YEARS/100K MILES ON THE 2003-2004 ACCORD. THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON. MY CAR IS 75000 MILES, BUT IS OVER 7 YEARS. IF THE PROBLEM IS COMMON HONDA SHOULD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TIME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH, MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD VIOLENTLY DOWN SHIFTED (MIMICKING THE EFFECT OF SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES). I SLOWED TO 30MPH AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO VIOLENTLY DOWN SHIFT, SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEARS. AFTER BACKING UP, THE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE A DELAY WHEN I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. ONCE IT ENGAGED IT JERKED INTO GEAR. I ORIGINALLY NOTICED PROBLEMS WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR OF ROUGH TRANSITION BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR AND ALSO WHILE DOWN SHIFTING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT NO FAIL CODES SHOWED ON THE COMPUTER AND THAT IT WAS COMMON BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THIS IS A SCAREY ISSUE AS IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A COLLISION WITH THE VIOLENT HALTING FORCE. *TR
FOR 2 DAYS UPON STARTUP IN THE MORNING THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO SLIP WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE THIRD DAY AT THE SPEED OF 55 MPH I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND FOUND THAT HERE WAS NO POWER. I BACKED OFF THE GAS PEDAL, TRIED AGAIN AND GOT NOTHING. I DOWNSHIFTED AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE ONCE MORE. I FELT THE TRANSMISSION SLIP INTO GEAR. FOR THE NEXT 5 MILES IT WENT IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND THEN NOTHING, NO TRANSMISSION AT ALL. THE CAR IS NOW AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP. HONDA OF AMERICA HAD ME TOW IT THERE AND GET A DAMAGE ASSESSMENT AND THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND GAVE A REPAIR COST OF $4,000. INCLUDING TAX. HONDA OF AMERICA HAS OFFERED US $1,000 TOWARD THE REPAIR DUE TO OUR PERFECT MAINTENANCE RECORD ON THE CAR. THIS CAR HAD THE TRANSMISSION FIXED IN THE 2004 RECALL BY HONDA. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 75,000 MILES. HONDA OF AMERICA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM VERY SPECIFIC TO THIS MAKE AND HEAR OF THE ACCORD. HONDA OF AMERICA REFUSES TO TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER HONDAS' WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND ALL SEEM TO HAVE BETWEEN 70-90 THOUSAND MILES!!!!! THE HONDA DEALER TOLD ME " I BETTER TAKE THE ONE TIME OFFER OF $1,000 FROM HONDA OF AMERICA" LEADING ME TO BELIEVE I HAD TO MAKE A DECISION. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I HAVE 30 DAYS TO MAKE A DECISION. I AM A FORMER HONDA OWNER AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS AND FIRMLY BELIEVE I SHOULD NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH A HONDA AUTOMOBILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND JERK ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON A LOCAL ROADWAY, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN FROM 40 TO 10 MPH IMMEDIATELY - COULD NOT ENGAGE THIRD GEAR OR HIGHER AND REVERSE. *TR

TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS AND AFTER CAR IS WARM TRANSMISSION HESITATES FROM DEAD START. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN, THE NHTSA IS FAILING IT SEEMS IN THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ADDRESS THIS RECURRING MALFUNCTION, I ONLY HOPE THAT THE DEATH AS A RESULT OF THIS SITUATION THAT FINALLY CAUSES A RECALL IS NOT ONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS. *TR

THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE RADIO DISPLAY WENT OUT. THERE IS NO LIGHTS ON THE HEAT/AC DIAL CONTROL, THE FAN CONTROL, ALL THE DEFROSTER/AIR BLOWER OPTIONS. MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO USE THE DEFROSTER IN THE FRONT OR REAR WHEN DRIVING SINCE I CAN'T SEE WHICH BUTTON I AM PUSHING. IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE TO TRUN ON AN INTERIOR LIGHT WHEN DRIVING TO SEE WHAT I NEED TO PUSH TO MAKE MY VISIBILITY BETTER. *TT
THE STEREO BACKLIGHT WENT OUT AND MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, HONDA WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE WITH A KNOWN ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY IT WAS A KNOWN DEFECT WHICH IS WHY THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY, BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. THE LIGHTS ON THE HEAT/AC/DEFROST CONTROLS ARE ALSO OUT WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO TURN DEFROSTERS ON AT NIGHT WHEN I NEED IT TO SEE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A BUSH AREA. THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 10 MPH BUT OCCASIONALLY JERKING FORWARD AS THE CAR STRUGGLED TO SHIFT GEARS. I WAS ON A ROAD WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH, AND FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT WHERE THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLED. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AFTER BRIEFLY SMELLING A BURNING SMELL. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND TAKE SIDE ROADS TO GET HOME. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICING AND WERE TOLD IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SPEED SENSOR. $259 AND TWO DAYS LATER WE WERE DRIVING ALONG A LOCAL HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 40 MPH WHEN THE CAR AGAIN JERKED THROUGH GEARS AND BARELY MOVING. SNOW WAS FALLING, AND VISIBILITY WAS LIMITED. WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON, SEVERAL CARS CAME WITHIN FEET OF REAR-ENDING US AS THE ROADS WERE SLICK AND WE WERE NOT ABLE TO FULLY GET INTO THE MEDIAN. AGAIN, A BURNING SMELL PROMPTED US TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER WE WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DRIVE IT DOWN THE MEDIAN AT ABOUT 5 MPH AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO JERK THROUGH GEARS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP AND LOST ALL POWER. IT DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. TOWED TO HONDA DEALER. THEY "COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM". RECOMMENDED TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE, WHICH WAS DONE. FLUID REPORTEDLY "DIRTY". (HAD BEEN CHANGED LAST TIME AT 90,000 MILES). I DROVE IT APPROX 5 MORE WEEKS. AT THAT TIME PROBLEM BECAME CONSISTENT. OCCASIONALLY SMELLED "BURNING ODOR". ENGINE REVVED UP, NO POWER. WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE - CLANKED VERY HARD INTO GEAR WHEN SHIFTING. HAD GREAT DIFFICULTY GOING UP HILLS. WENT BACK TO HONDA DEALER - CONFIRMED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH ON A LONG STRAIGHT ROAD WHEN FOR NO REASON THE CAR STARTED DOWNSHIFTING ON IT'S OWN. THE VEHICLE LURCHED. I CAME TO A STOP AND WHILE I WAS BRAKING, THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ON IT'S OWN AS IF I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. I STOPPED AT A LIGHT, AND THEN TURNED ONTO A SIDE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED DOWNSHIFTING ON IT'S OWN AGAIN. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ONCE AGAIN, THE CAR STOPPED SUDDENLY AS IF I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. AFTER A FEW DAYS AT A PERSONAL MECHANIC, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP. PERSONAL MECHANIC STATED HE AT ONE POINT TOOK MY VEHICLE OUT ON A SIDE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT INTO A NEUTRAL SPEED AND LOST POWER. WHILE ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING AROUND 50MPH TO THE DEALERSHIP, CAR DOWNSHIFTED ON IT'S OWN CAUSING ME TO ALMOST GET REAR ENDED. I PULLED OFF FREEWAY AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE AGAIN, THE CAR CAME TO A QUICK SUDDEN STOP AS IF I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. ONCE AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, TEST WERE RAN AND IT WAS DECIDED THE VEHICLE HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY QUOTED ME $4500 FOR REPAIRS. ENDED UP CALLING HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY WERE WILLING TO ONLY COVER $1100. I ENDED UP WITH A TOTAL BILL OF $3406.26. *TR
FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS THE RADIO WOULD GIVE A SNAPPING SOUND AND THEN GO SILENT. ON OR ABOUT THE THIRD WEEK, JUST AFTER STARTING THE CAR, AND TURNING THE RADIO ON, SMOKE STARTED TO POUR FROM BEHIND THE DASH IN THE AREA OF THE CENTER CONSOLE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE RADIO. THE SMOKE (FIRE?) STOPPED . . . . NOT SURE WHETHER TURNING OFF THE RADIO OR WHETHER THE WIRE, CIRCUIT BOARD OR (?) HAD BURNED THROUGH. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD. FIRST TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP AT 50,000 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER FOR EVALUATION AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, DRIVING ON WEST SIDE HIGHWAY GOING FROM BROOKLYN TO HOME IN NJ. TRANSMISSION FAILED AND FINALLY GOT IT INTO FIRST GEAR. BROUGHT TO DEALER AND TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 50,000 MILES. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THIS TIME AND DID NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING. AT 108,000 MILES AGAIN I FELT THE TRANSMISSION START TO SLIP. AGAIN, BROUGHT TO MAHWAH HONDA AND TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. ONE WEEK LATER, DRIVING ON MAJOR HIGHWAY IN NJ (ROUTE 17 SOUTH) THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. LUCKILY, AT CARS GOING 60 MPH AROUND ME I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT AND NOT GET REAR ENDED OR IN AN ACCIDENT. CAR WAS FLAT BED TRUCKED TO DEALER. WHEN WE DISCUSSED THE ISSUES WE KNEW THAT HONDA 2003 ACCORDS/TRANSMISSIONS WERE HAVING, THEY IGNORED THE COMMENTS. THIS WAS NOW THE THIRD TRANSMISSION FOR THE CAR, THE ORIGINAL, THE REPLACEMENT AT 50,000 MILES AND THE EVENT THAT JUST OCCURRED. THEY DID NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING OF IT. IN THE END, THE "DEAL" THEY GAVE WAS TO PAY CLOSE TO $3000 FOR THE TRANSMISSION (THEY GAVE A 20% DISCOUNT, HOW KIND). THE SERVICE WAS AWFUL. AS A LIFE LONG HONDA CUSTOMER WITH AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF HONDA CARS, I WILL NEVER GO BACK. WHAT A SHAME THAT HONDA WILL NOT LIVE UP TO THEIR PRIOR GREAT REPUTATION AND BACK UP THE CARS AND OBVIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE KILLED ME DRIVING. SHAME ON HONDA. *TR
HONDA HAS EXPANDED A PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED RECALL OF CERTAIN 2001 THROUGH 2003 MODEL-YEAR HONDA AND ACURA VEHICLES TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG INFLATOR ORIGINALLY INSTALLED IN APPROXIMATELY 273,000 ADDITIONAL VEHICLES SOLD IN THE U.S. AFFECTED DRIVER'S AIRBAG INFLATORS MAY DEPLOY WITH TOO MUCH PRESSURE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE INFLATOR CASING TO RUPTURE AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR FATALITY. MY 2003 HAS THE SAME FAULTY AIRBAG LIGHT NOW COMING ON, BUT THE VIN # IS NOT CURRENTLY PART OF THE RECALL. HOW IS THIS NOT COVERED BY A DEALER FOR REPAIR?
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD SLAMMED INTO A LOWER GEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO ALMOST COME TO A STOP INSTANTLY. THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS AND SWERVE ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING ME. THE CAR WILL NO LONGER SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR ANY GEAR HIGHER THAN 2ND. *TR
MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD HAD A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 52,000 MILES. CAR ALSO DIAGNOSED WITH POWER STEERING RACK FAILURE. CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED EXCLUSIVELY AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. ALL MAINTENANCE DONE AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS. SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN GIVEN CARTE BLANCHE TO REPAIR/REPLACE ANY PART OVER THE LAST 8 YEARS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. VERY DISAPPOINTING. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING ON AND OFF FOR 2 WEEKS UNTIL LAST NIGHT, WHEN IT FAILED COMPLETELY. I NOTICED IT SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR WHEN I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, AND THEN IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEARS. I HAD IT TOWED TO A NEARBY TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. FAILURE HAPPENED AT 8 YEARS AND 114,000 MILES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED TO THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED AND AN OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIRS, ACCOMPANIED BY AN ABNORMAL JERKING MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,176.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHEN SUDDENLY THE GEARS DOWNSHIFT ON ME. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE A LITTLE BUT IT INCREASES THE RPM IN THE CURRENT GEAR BUT DOES NOT SHIFT. I TRY AGAIN AND IT SHIFTS UP. A FEW SECONDS LATER IT REPEATS - THE CAR DOWNSHIFTS SUDDENLY WITH A JERKING MOTION AND I HAVE DIFFICULTY ACCELERATING. I AM ABOUT TO HAVE A BABY BUT NOW THAT THIS HAPPENED I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS CAR WITH THE LIFE OF MY PRECIOUS LITTLE ONE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A COMPLETE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MADE YET! AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE IS DIM OR DARK: THE AUDIO DISPLAY AND CONTROLS (KNOBS, BUTTONS, BARS) OF THE AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE ARE DIM OR ARE DARK. THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA ACCORDS 2003-2007 WHERE ONE OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD ( PCB) WHICH CONTROLS THE CENTER AUDIO CONSOLE FAILS AND THEN THE WHOLE AUDIO CONSOLE GOES DARK. SO WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR, YOU CANNOT SEE ANY BUTTON OR KNOB ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE HEAT / COOL , THE FAN SPEED OR ANY FUNCTION THAT IS CONTROLLED BY THE COUNTER CONSOLE. HONDA INITIALLY SENT OUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE AUDIO CONSOLE TO 7 YEARS /100, 000 MILES. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IN A LARGE NUMBER OF CARS. THIS IS NOT LIKE A TRANSMISSION OR A BRAKE ISSUE WHICH CAN WEAR DOWN OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONICS ON THE CAR AND SHOULD BE ESCALATED TO A RECALL. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS THE CONSOLE LIGHTING DOES COMPLETELY DARK AND THE DRIVER CANNOT SEE OR LOCATE ANY CONTROLS WITHIN THE CAR. THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. HONDA HAS ISSUES A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 04-027. THIS BULLETIN IN THE PROOF THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT HONDA HAS OFFERED IS OF NO USE BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ARE OUT OF THE WARRANTY TERMS ( 7 YEARS // 100,000 MILES) THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY INSTITUTE SHOULD FORCE HONDA TO REPAIR THIS COMPONENT IN THE CAR IRRESPECTIVE OF THE MILES OR THE NUMBER OF YEARS. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND IS NOT RELATED TO BREAK DOWN OF A COMPONENTS BECAUSE OF MILES OR YEARS. I WAS LUCKY AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST OFF THE FREEWAY TO A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS A HONDA TRANSMISSION OIL JET KIT RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAD THAT TAKEN CARE OF ON 10/18/04 AT 15,555 MILES. I HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AGAIN AT 30,570 MILES ON 2/20/06. HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT HONDA DEALER ON 12/17/11 AFTER THIS INCIDENT. THEY WANTED $4,000 BUT THEY GAVE ME $1,400 OFF AS A "GOOD WILL" GESTURE, SO I PAID $2,600. THE DEALER SAID THERE HAS BEEN NO HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, SOUNDS LIKE HONDA HAD MAJOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT YEAR. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS POSTED ONLINE. *TR

THIS PROBLEM, WITH POTENTIAL SAFETY IMPLICATIONS SEEMS TO RISE TO THE LEVEL OF A DEFECT. AS I WRITE, THE DISPLAY IS DARK AND OCCASIONALLY FLICKERS. THERE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS SERVICE BULLETINS RELEASED ON THIS ISSUE AND ITS A KNOW DEFECT; HOWEVER I DID CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ON DECEMBER 2011 BUT, HONDA AND HONDA DEALER'S REFUSES TO REPLACE PART WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT. WINDSHIELD WIPER (LINKAGE ARM) FAILURE. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I HAD MENTIONED TO MULTIPLE HONDA DEALER'S THAT WINDSHIELD WIPER ARE BANGING WHEN RETURNING TO START POSITION AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL AND THEY HAD CHECKED THE WIPER MOTOR AND IT WORKS FINE. WINDSHIELD WIPER STARTED BANGING YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2003. I WAS ABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE BY REPLACING WINDSHIELD WIPER LINKAGE ARM AT MY OWN COST AFTER I FOUND THE SOLUTION ON INDEPENDENT HONDA FORUMS. *TR

TRUNK LID WON'T STAY UP. WHEN TRUNK LID UP, IT COMES CRASHING DOWN ON MY HEAD. IT HAS DONE THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE. IT HAS PUT SEVERAL GASHES IN MY HEAD. HONDA SAYS THE BAR CONNECTING TO THE HINGES OWN MADE ANYMORE. THERE MUST BE A WAY TO FIX THIS BEFORE I GET A CONCUSSION.
