DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL #04V176000 ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FOR THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN MAKING A HOWLING NOISE AND HAS NOT BEEN FUCTIONING PROPERLY. THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. THIS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND INCREASED WITH RPM'S. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THREE OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED.
RADIO AND HVAC CONTROLS LIGHTS ARE OUT. THE RADIO OPERATES BUT THE LIGHTS ARE OUT. *JB
I BOUGHT A NEW HONDA ACCORD LX IN MAY OF 2004. AS THE BRAKES WORE DOWN THEY BEGAN TO HAVE A SURGE TYPE OF PROBLEM AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE ONCE IN A WHILE. WHEN I REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS I FOUND THAT ONE OF THE PADS WAS CLOSE TO BEING WORN OUT ON ONE SIDE OF THE ROTOR AND THE OTHER WAS LIKE NEW, ON BOTH LEFT AND FRONT ROTORS. AFTER I REPLACED THEM, EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE UNTIL AFTER THEY HAD WORN ABOUT 25,000 MILES. NOW THEY HAVE ABOUT 45,00 MILES ON THEM. NOW THEY ARE DOING IT AGAIN EXCEPT THE SURGE PROBLEM IS MUCH WORSE THIS TIME AND THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY SOMETIMES IF I PUT THE BRAKES ON HARD. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MINOR AND SOMETIMES IT IS REALLY BAD. I ASK THE HONDA PEOPLE ABOUT IT AND THEY WANT MONEY TO PUT IT ON THE RACK TO LOOK AT IT; SOMETHING I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF. I BOUGHT A NEW 2004 HONDA ACCORD. I WAS DRIVING IT TODAY WHEN A SOFTBALL SIZE BUBBLE APPEARED ON THE SIDEWALL. A MAJOR HONDA DEALER SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THE LOCAL MICHELIN DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT A DEFECTIVE TIRE. HOW CAN A SOFTBALL SIZE BALLOON JUST APPEAR ALL OF THE SUDDEN ON THE SIDEWALL. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT 70 MPH IT MIGHT HAVE KILLED ME AND MY DAUGHTER. I WANT MICHELIN TO REPLACE THIS TIRE AND THE OTHER THREE FREE OF CHARGE AND ALSO INSPECT THE THICKNESS OF SIDEWALLS USED ON 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX MODELS. THE TIRE HAD 20,000 MILES ON IT. 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 : WHEN BRAKING FROM 50+ MPH ESPECIALLY DOWNHILL CAUSES THE WHOLE CAR TO SHUDDER. THE CAR HAS 14000 MILES ON IT. DEALER SAYS THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND IT IS MY DRIVING PATTERN. I HAD OTHER HONDA'S WHICH NEVER HAD TO HAVE THEIR ROTORS REPLACED UNTIL 100K MILES AT LEAST. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR DEFECTIVE BRAKE PAD MATERIAL FOR 2003'S ACCORDS BUT A LOT OF 2004/2005 OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS (EDMUNDS.COM) AS WELL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE YOU LOSE CAR CONTROL WHILE BRAKING. NHTSA SHOULD DEFINITELY INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH A FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE. LAST YEAR I REPORTED A DEFECT WHEREBY THE VEHICLE WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE WHILE I WAS IN THE ACT OF STOPPING. I HAD TO USE BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND KICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO GET THE ENGINE TO COME BACK TO IDLE. WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE RPM'S WENT UP TO ALMOST 6000. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY HERB CHAMBERS HONDA, IN BURLINGTON, MASS AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, ON DEC 8, 2005, I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AT A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED AND THE VEHICLE DID THE VERY SAME THING! IT TOOK BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE SPED UP TO ALMOST 6000 RPM'S, KICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND FINALLY THE ENGINE DROPPED TO IDLE. THIS CONCERNS ME GREATLY. I'M SEVENTY YEARS OLD AND I RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM, BUT MY WIFE WHO IS SEVENTY-TWO AND WHO DOESN'T USE THE CAR TOO OFTEN, MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM, BE ABLE TO THINK OF THE SOLUTION AND HANDLE THE VEHICLE ALL AT ONCE. ON 5 DECEMBER 2005 AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 5 MINUTES THERE WAS A LOUD POP THEN THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER CAME ON BY IT SELF CAUSING THE SEAT TO GETTING VERY HOT. THE SEAT HEATER WAS TURN ON THEN OFF. THIS ACTION CAUSE THE HEATER TO GO OFF. *NM
I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION OF GIBBON STREET AND SOUTH WASHINGTON STREET IN OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA WHEN I SAW A TAXI BLOW THROUGH A RED LIGHT ON SOUTH WASHINGTON STREET (I WAS ON GIBBON STREET). THE POINT OF IMPACT WAS THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TAXI. WE SLID ACROSS THE INTERSECTION TOGETHER AS MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. WHEN WE CAME TO A STOP I REALIZED THAT MY SEAT BELT, ALONG WITH MY PASSENGER'S SEAT BELT, WAS STILL BUCKLED, HOWEVER THE BELT WAS COMPLETELY UNRAVELED. THERE WERE NO SERIOUS INJURIES TO MYSELF OR MY PASSENGER, BUT I DID RECEIVE A PARTIAL TEAR OF THE TENDONS IN MY LEFT THUMB AND BURNS ON THE TOP OF MY RIGHT HAND FROM THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING. AS OF NOW, THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY REPAIRS TO THE CAR AS I AM WAITING FOR BOTH INSURANCE COMPANIES TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHAT TO DO AS FAR AS FIXING IT OR CLAIMING IT A TOTAL LOSS. IT IS SUSPECTED THAT A NEW STEERING WHEEL, A NEW DASHBOARD, NEW AIRBAGS, COMPUTER CALIBRATION AND A NEW FRONT END ARE NEEDED, NOT TO MENTION NEW SEAT BELTS. *JB
I BOUGHT MY HONDA ACCORD IN OCT. 2004 @ 34000 MILES AND THE DISPLAY LIGHT WENT OUT IN ABOUT 3 WEEKS. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND AS I PULLED UP TO PARK THE RADIO DISPLAY LIGHT JUST WENT BLACK. THE RADIO STILL WORKS BUT DISPLAY LIGHT IS OUT. IN THE SUNLIGHT YOU CAN SEE THE SCREEN BUT VERY DIM. I CALLED HONDA TO SCHEDULE A REPAIR AND WHEN I DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID "USUALLY IN THE CASE, IT'S AN INTERNAL PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNIT". WHEN I ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD "NO". I WENT ONLINE TO SEARCH TO SEE IF THERE ARE SIMILAR PROBLEMS LISTED AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *NM

THE CAR MAKES A SQUEALING / SCREECHING NOISE WHILE DRIVING THAT APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2001 ACCORD 4CYL NOW IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN ON MY 2004. I'M AFRAID THAT I WILL HAVE TO GO WHAT I WENT THROUGH BEFORE WHERE EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE I NEEDED REAR BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACING OF MY ROTORS, BUT IF I WASN'T SO DILIGENT ABOUT GETTING MY VEHICLE SERVICED WHO KNOWS, I PROBABLY WOULD LOSE ALL BRAKING ABILITY.
DT: CONTACT STATES THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED IN HER MOTHER'S VEHICLE WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT OCCURRING. HER MOTHER WAS DRIVING SLOWLY COMING UP ON AN INTERSECTION. SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE DEALER STATED THEY SAW A SCRATCH ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR THAT MIGHT HAVE INDICATED SHE HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. HER MOTHER STATES SHE WAS INJURED, BUT HAS NOT GONE TO THE DOCTOR. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON 10-11-05. THE CONSUMER WAS SITTING STILL AND AN ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE IN THE REAR WHILE GOING 45 MPH AND PUSHED IT INTO THE CAR IN FRONT. IT WAS A FOUR CAR ACCIDENT. THERE WAS MORE DAMAGE DONE TO THE REAR THAN TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY INJURED. HER KNEE DID HIT THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT SHE WAS NOT INITIALLY INJURED BY THIS. THE CONTACT WAS ALONE IN THE CAR. UPON IMPACT, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT HAS NOT YET SPOKEN TO THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER, BUT PLANNED TO. DO SO. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. SHE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A ROUTINE SERVICE CHECK IN AUGUST 2005. THE SERVICE DEALER DID NOT TIGHTEN THE LUG S:NUTS TIGHT ENOUGH. ON 10-09-05 SHE WAS DRIVING HOME AT 25 MPH AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL POPPED OFF. CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED A MINOR ACCIDENT, AND IT TORE UP THE FRONT END OF THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER SHE SHOULD GET THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVOLVED. THE CONTACT HAS NOT YET SPOKEN TO INSURANCE COMPANY. SHE PLANNED TO TALK TO HER ATTORNEY. DT: 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THERE HAD BEEN NO ACCIDENTS PRIOR TO THIS. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER GAS PEDALS SINCE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES, AND THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE BREAK DOWN LANE. SHE THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO STATED THERE WERE SCRAPINGS UNDER THE VEHICLE AND A BOLT WAS MISSING. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, SHE RAN OVER SOMETHING TO CAUSE THIS. AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT THE LOCAL KMART, IN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX, I NOTICED ANOTHER CAR BACKING OUT ALSO. I APPLIED MY BRAKE AND PUT MY CAR FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE TO PULL A LITTLE WAYS BACK INTO MY PARKING SPACE SO I WOULD NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, WHEN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING (THE BLINK OF AN EYE) MY CAR CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. IN SHOCK, I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE, BUT MY CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I COULD NOT STOP IT. I HIT TWO OTHER PARKED CARS BEFORE THE BRAKES FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR. THANK GOD IT STOPPED AS MY CAR WAS HEADING TOWARD THE KMART STORE. ONE 85-YEAR OLD LADY WAS INJURED WHILE IN HER CAR. THE OTHER TWO CARS WERE EMPTY. A LOT OF DAMAGE TO 3 VEHICLES PLUS ALMOST $7,000 DAMAGE TO MY ACCORD. AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRED, I ASKED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT MY CAR AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I ASKED TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL DISCONNECTED AS I HAVE READ THAT MAY BE WHAT CAUSES "SUDDEN ACCELERATION ACCIDENTS" AND HONDA REFUSED SAYING IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG THEY WOULD BE LIABLE. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE, JUST HORRIBLE, AS I AM BEING FORCED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND I AM FRIGHTENED ANOTHER INCIDENT WILL OCCUR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! *JB
AT APPROXIMATELY 1405 HRS ON 09/14/2005 I WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A COCA-COLA DELIVERY TRUCK THAT MERGED FROM HIS LANE INTO MINE CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO SPIN INTO THE FRONT OF HIS. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION WAS ENOUGH TO BEND THE REAR AXLE OF MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO HAVE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS BUT DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING ME TO SHATTER MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WITH MY HEAD. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AS IT WAS SUPPOSE TO. WHILE TRAVELING AT 35MPH, MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX CRASHED INTO A STOPPED VEHICLE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER WAS SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE HONDA. CAPTIOL HONDA OF MCMINNVILLE, OR, WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT SENSORS AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT COOLING. I TOOK THE AUTOMOBILE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT ROCKS HAD HIT THE CONDENSER AND DAMAGED. SUPPOSEDLY, IT WAS REPLACED BUT LESS THAN 7 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED (NO COOLING) AND ROCKS HAD AGAIN DAMAGED THE CONDENSER. FALL WAS COMING UP, SO THE A/C WAS NOT USED AGAIN UNTIL APRIL '06. I FEEL THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A DESIGN DEFECT THAT IS COSTLY AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL. THE LOWER FRONT GRILL BUMPER IS DESIGNED IN A SUCH A WAY THAT ANY ROAD DEBRIS CAN ENTER AND DAMAGE A FULLY EXPOSED AND UNPROTECTED A/C CONDENSER. THE DESIGN OF THE GRILL AND CONDENSER MATERIAL LEAVES IT VULNERABLE TO BE EASILY DAMAGED BY SMALL GRAVEL. THERE IS NO SCREEN OR DEFLECTOR IN PLACE FOR THE CONDENSER TO PROHIBIT ANY ROAD DEBRIS FROM DAMAGING THE CONDENSER: THEREFORE, THE CLEARING AND DEFOGGING OF THE INSIDE WINDOW IS DIFFICULT WITHOUT THE DEHUMIDIFIER EFFECT. AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CONDUCTED ON THE VULNERABILITY OF DAMAGE TO THE A/C CONDENSER SYSTEM. HONDA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THE PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY IF THIS PART IS INFERIOR AND/OR DEFECTIVE. *JB
AC CONDENSER FAILURE - ALLEGEDLY PUNCTURED BY ROAD DEBRIS. MY WIFE WAS BEHIND A TRUCK CARRYING GRAVEL TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. GRAVEL MAY HAVE SPILLED OUT AND ENTERED FRONT OF CAR, PUNCTURING CONDENSER UNIT. EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER - THEY CLAIM ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS. I CLAIM THAT IF THE CAR WAS PROPERLY DESIGNED, A SIMPLE PEBBLE COULD NOT CAUSE $500 WORTH OF DAMAGE. *JB
2004 HONDA ACCORD EX W/24,000 MILES AND IN SERVICE ONE YEAR. EXCESSIVE NOISE (SQUEALING) COMING FROM FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. FRONT PADS HAD MINIMAL WEAR BUT THERE WAS A CRACK DOWN THE CENTER OF EACH FRONT PAD (FOUR IN ALL) SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THE CRACKS WERE PROBABLY CAUSED BY HEAT (A CRACK IN THE PAD IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT A PROBLEM). AS FOR THE REAR BRAKES, THE REAR PADS WERE WORN COMPLETELY DOWN NOT EQUAL TO THE FRONT PADS AND BY ALL ACCOUNTS SHOULD HAVE HAD LESS WEAR THAN THE FRONT PADS BECAUSE IT IS THE FRONT BRAKES THAT WORK THE HARDEST. *JB
WHILE I WAS TAKING AN EXIT OF THE HIGHWAY (TRAVELING ABOUT 30-35 MPH), GRADUALLY APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES ALL OF THE SUDDEN WERE LOCKED UP AND THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. IT SPUN AROUND, STEERING WAS LOCKED AND ENGINE WAS CUT OFF. FORTUNATELY, THERE WE'RE NO CARS BEHIND ME AND DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL. ONLY THE REAR BUMPER WAS HIT BY THE GUARD RAIL ON THE RAMP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA SERVICE CENTER. THEY DID NOT FIND ANY FAULT IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, I HAVE NOTICED ONE THING AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE SHOP - FUEL EFFICIENCY WENT UP. WHEN I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, IT WAS AVERAGING ABOUT 32-33 MPG. BUT IN PASS THREE TO FOUR MONTHS THE AVERAGE AS ABOUT 28 MPG. THE A/C'S ON AND THE DRIVING ENVIRONMENT HAVE NOT CHANGE. FUEL EFFICIENCY HAS BEEN CONSISTENCE FOR LASER FEW FILL-UPS. *JB

PER NHTS RECALL RESULTS, I UNDERSTAND MY VEHICLE (2004 HONDA ACCORD 12,00 MILES) NEEDED TO BE RECALLED FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE HAD SINCE RECURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER TWO OF THE RECURRENCES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS AGAIN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. A FIRE STARTED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE LOCATION OF THE FIRE WAS A LITTLE BEHIND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA. OTHER PASSING BY MOTORISTS WERE FLAGGING DOWN THE CONSUMER TO MAKE HER AWARE OF A FIRE. VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER, AND THE CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. ON MARCH 18, 2005, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 ON I 680 WHEN MY TCS AND ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I GOT SCARED AND RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR BUT SINCE THE EXIT I NEEDED WAS APPROACHING, I SLIGHTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. IMMEDIATELY THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED OUT OF CONTROL AND I SLAMMED INTO THE RIGHT GUARDRAIL EXTREMELY HARD, CAUSING ALL DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY AND I CONTINUED SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS NOT STOPPING AS IT CROSSED TWO LANES AND CONTINUED DRIVING ONTO THE MEDIAN, EVENTUALLY STOPPING AS IT HIT AND RODE UP ON THE GUARDRAIL ON THE MEDIAN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING PRESENT IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALLED BY INSURANCE. HONDA WAS CALLED BUT TODD (SVC REP) SAID THAT "WE DONT LIKE TO HEAR THAT ABOUT OUR CARS."
