NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.
When in reverse gear, the backup camera images appear blurred with color distortions. This happens more frequently when it has been raining or there's mud on the roads and less frequent when it's dry.
My head gasket is blown. It blown while I was driving down the road, it went into limp mode. I took it to the dealership and got it inspected. My car kept running hot, it also keep losing speed and lights on the dashboard.
The fuel pump system in my Honda Accord 2018 Lx failed causing my car engine to turn off while I was driving on the express lane which then caused my car to spin out and slam my backside of the car into the wall. I was driving alone in the car with my seatbelt on and was able to blow my horn to alert other drivers to slow down. The vehicle was only inspected by the policer officer who arrived on scene and took notes of the incident. There was no warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure. I was only cognizant of this fuel pump issue from the recall letter.
I received a notice of recall with my car registration and I contact the Honda Dealer Future Honda of Sacramento. I went for the appointment for the on October 05, 2024 and was told that they did not have the parts.
The car was parked, I turned on the car and the whole dashboard lite up, the car wouldn't move, when it did it was really sluggish. Took to dealership and determined it was a bad head gasket with a misfire in the cylinder two. People are complaining about this issue all over the Internet, bad head gaskets prematurely blowing for 2018-2020 honda Accords
At 53,000, I began getting simultaneous errors light up the dashboard. I code reader indicated I had misfires on cylinder 3. Replaced spark plugs even though the originals are rated to near 100,000 miles. Ended up needing to have fuel injectors replaced by the dealer for $1300. Upon further research, this seems to be a common problem for these 1.5T engines caused by either faulty injectors or engine design. I purchase Honda for reliability and do not expect this kind of issue on a vehicle with that low of mileage. Honda should extend the warranty and offer reimbursement to those affected by this issue.
Honda dealership told me that coolant has leaked into the head gasket causing my car to have a rough startup. My car never had issues until month ago.
my stall while driving and lose power while driving up hills etc. also shut off at times almost causing me several accidents. called the coral springs dealership in Florida and was told i had to pay have my vehicle dianosed before they can see if its the recall for fuel pump module. they rather for me to have an accident before replacing my recall issue. I spoke with a lawyer in regards to this matter in case something happens to me while driving and he gave me good news if you all dont repair this safety recall and im involve in an accident. I'm just asking to have my safety recall repaired asap before something happen. my name is [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Car is not properly driving , engine stops while driving , causing car to over heat after 20 minute use
yes it is available for inspection. car all of a sudden puts on its brakes could have caused a rear end accident not on my car no they come on and go off randomly it started acting up and then the lights came on
My head gasket and yes it’s available as long as the shops local. Can’t really drive it also I put fuel because a part of the problem is Honda recommending running 87 for fuel in manual and for a turbo car with direct injection that is part of the reason that’s causing this too happen too soo many 1.5t Accords! As far as safety it’s very dangerous, I went into limp mode multiple times on the highway and when that happens losing power on the highway is dangerous but having to pull over on the side of the highway is VERY dangerous!! Yes it has happened over and over and goes into limp mode just about everytime driven and yes a dealer has seen it. Yes every time it’s happened the dash lights up like a Christmas tree with check engine light! It started in Sept!!
Car lost power when trying to drive and I almost got hit by oncoming traffic. The car was fine and I had full power but all of a sudden without warning I had no power . I shut the car off and it was fine again. The car is at dealer and it turns out it is a bad (blown)head gasket. The service advisor stated it’s a well known problem with the 1.5 liter engine, in fact he, he stated they had six Honda accord 1.5 liter cars at the dealership with the same problem.
I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX‑L (VIN#: [XXX]). Shortly after a service visit to a Honda dealer for unrelated maintenance (in Sep. 2024 with an estimated 50,000 miles), the dashboard began showing ‘Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer’. A dealer quoted $400+ to diagnose and replace what appears to be a common passenger airbag indicator sensor failure, a known issue reported by many 2018 Accord owners. I believe Honda should issue a recall due to the safety risk. I’m filing this as a VOQ complaint for ODI’s review and authorize NHTSA to share my identifying info with Honda if needed. Supporting Documentation and numerous examples of complaints from hundreds of Honda Accord owners relating to this problem: - Numerous drivers of 2018 Honda Accords have reported the identical warning (“Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer”) along with fault code B002013, intermittent dashboard behavior, and inability of dealers to resolve it consistently. - Honda’s 2024 Campaign 24‑050 identifies the seat weight sensor as directly causing SRS warnings and passenger airbag indicator failure - demonstrating this component is known to fail and trigger airbag system alert behavior, even if not yet applied to 2018 model year. - Independent coverage confirms the risk and design defect in seat sensors causing unintended SRS failures, underscoring the safety risk and Honda’s formal acknowledgment of the issue in later models. - Multiple complaints about post‑service warning lights that match this scenario (electrical system category), and public news coverage stating Honda is recalling vehicles due to faulty passenger seat sensors that may cause airbag or SRS failures. - 37 official complaints for the 2018 Accord, with no repair by dealer and failure left unresolved. One report (May 12, 2025) describes this exact issue saying the dashboard message randomly popped up and a "dealer wanted $250 diagnostic and $4,000 to repair. - My service quote attached. My fuel injectors went bad and my engine shut down while I was on the highway, only allowing me to drive 5mph.

The problem first started on 8-8-24 when I cranked up my car & the dashboard lit up with all of these different sensors. I called Leith Honda dealership in Aberdeen, due to that is where I take my car to be serviced at, my customer service rep (Brian) stated to wait to see if they would stay on, because of that type of car will reset itself. So later on, that day they did, go away after driving it a while. Then a sensor popped up on 8-10-24 & stayed on for just a day, then came back off again. I called again & he stated to wait again so that the car can be diagnosed, but it had cut off again. So, a few days had gone by & in the middle of driving on the highway while going 60 mph, all of the same sensors came back on & the car would not go over 40 mph due to one of the main sensors stating "Emission System Problem. Avoid Heavy Acceleration & High Speed. See Your Dealer." Along with my 21MONTH old baby in the car! DANGEROUS! My job (travel CNA) requires me to travel from facility to facility & I need my car to be reliable. The rep said it really sounds like the recall part that is going bad in my car needs to be replaced & until it stays on sticks; there is nothing that can be done. I beg to defer! Is it going to take for me to get into a car accident & jeopardize my daughter & I safety in order for the part to be replaced, after what the recall notification states that can be done while operating the vehicle. Along with the recall stating that they are only willing to replace the part for free if the car is potentially life threating or inoperable. The fact that they are taking their time replacing these parts is dangerous or mindful at all. I love my car, but I am not willing to put my daughter's life, or mine nor anyone else's life in danger by continuing driving this car and still having to pay for it. I deserve for this part & anything else that is affected, due to the part needing to be replaced. Thank you for resolving the issue.
Unintended activation of CMBS braking and warning system causing rapid vehicle deceleration. Deactivation of active cruise control due to CMBS errors.
My Accord HG Issue Well my 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5t that I’ve owned for not even 2yrs and | bought it with 54k and now has only 59k on it and has started acting up the last few weeks!!! It went into limp mode once a few weeks ago outta nowhere and just shut my car off and so I then turned it off and back on and it reset. Well fast forward a week later and limp mode again and so l hooked it up to a OBD scanner and said misfire cylinder 3 so l replaced the spark plugs and at that point. I then noticed the oil was low and due for a change and it smelled like straight gas. So drove a lil bit and limp mode again and again it said misfire cylinder 3!!! So then I decided to swap the coil pack and checked the spark plug again and seemed normal, also I noticed my coolant was below minimum so I filled it hoping that was my issue and cruised later and no limp mode so l thought I that fixed it, but one thing I noticed was at higher rpm’s in Ist gear the exhaust would backfire a lil but no limp mode. Well the next day I went cruising for a few hours and it was good all night but then on my way home it went into limp mode again!!! So Saturday was when I filled my coolant and Sunday after cruising I checked my coolant and it was still at full, well l checked it again on Monday night and it’s now in the middle of full and minimum and the new fresh oil smells like straight gas and also went down a lil!!! So then I had a buddy who’s a mechanic with borescope look at the cylinders and cylinder 3 was not great 4 had a lot of carbon build up and liquid in which looked like antifreeze and I also did another test that confirmed it was the head gasket!!! This is VERY DANGEROUS and a SAFETY issue BIG TIME because I was on the highway and all of a sudden I lost power at 70mph and couldn’t accelerate and had to pull over on the highway which was even more dangerous and had to shut it down and then it would reset and I was able to drive until it happened again!!!
3 days and 26 miles after picking up my car following the repair for the issue reported in NHTSA issue #11614854, my car again displayed a bunch of various errors on the dashboard and threw P0300, P0301, and P0304 codes via OBDII. I dropped off the car at the dealership and they report that the issue this time is bad fuel injectors. This car has now had 2 major premature powertrain failures before reaching 70k miles that can result in loss of power while operating the vehicle. Losing power on the highway is a serious safety issue so I wanted to report this to the NHTSA for your records.

When driving on the freeway my 2018 honda accord sport stalled with no indication light or anything. My safety and the safety of others was at high risk due to the stall. I was able to restart the engine however i was extremely concerned if this would start a fire.
Losing coolant, told possible blown head gasket. Come to learn, this is a FREQUENT issues with the 10th gen Accords!
Blown Head Gasket, Coolant (possibly oil) leaking into combustion chamber. Confirmed by Honda of Kenner after getting Diagnostic. Car suddenly shook and temperature of car rose, misfires occurred shortly after with a flashing check engine light

honda has yet to fix the fuel pump issue after issuing recall on the fuel pump over a year ago. I've been by the Honda dealership numerous times trying to get this recall fixed. Now i am having many issues with my car and i can't even drive it at this point. The Honda dealership told me that I have a cracked head which has caused may other issues. There is known issues with the 2018 Honda accord 1.5t that Honda has to even acknowledge. There wasn't an accident thankfully quick thinking on my behalf. There are many issues that Honda had refused to acknowledge and as single woman living off one check and still paying for my car, recently fired because it's now hard for me to get to work because i do not make enough to uber to work and pay my monthly bill it's caused me many issues and lots of out-of-pocket expenses. Now as I am trying to find a remote job that i don't have to drive into I am desperately trying to not lose my house which is almost out of my control and will be homeless because of this known issue that Honda has known about and has yet to do anything about. i have loved my car and to the point I was thinking about trading in and getting a brand new one and would have been Honda fan the rest of my life this has ultimately ruined my life, and I am hating this decision to buy one from the get-go. This should be illegal, and Honda should be held responsible for fixing this issue which has cost me almost my whole life. The fuel pump has failed which either indirectly or directly has affected the head gasket, and every light is lite up on my dashboard and goes into limp mode when trying to go. the warnings that are up are the emissions, the electrical warning has been on for years and no could or can find out why. I've taken it into the Honda dealership & other repair shops trying to get this fixed, but no one can figure it out. I can accelerate to get up to speed and it tells me to not brake hard, on top of the other warnings this has caused to come

Head Gasket Leak at 75,000 miles, eventual blown head gasket due to lack of symptoms beforehand
These Accords are an extreme safety hazzard. Experienced an instant loss of power and without any prior warning signs. Once the issue accured the vehicle was impossible to drive putting the vehicle occupants and everyone on the road at risk. Now Honda does not want to fix the problem because they feel that would be an admission of guilt. This is not the first I've heard of this issue with these vehicles and I'm sure it will not be the last please help push these vehicles for a safety recall before more people get hurt.
The car is not starting properly, it takes a couple of tries to start, and the instrument panel lights come on. It appears that the Honda dealership in Doylestown PA does not have the part needed to repair my car and my safety is at risk and I don't feel comfortable driving the car. Can you please advise the dealership's responsibility in providing me a loaner car until the part is available? I have an appointment next week where I will leave the car until the part is available.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. My head gasket went out while I was driving down the road at around 68425 miles. The result was that the car threw a bunch of error codes and went into limp mode while on the highway. I was fortunately able to pull off into a parking lot due to low traffic at that time of day but it was a major road that is full of vehicles during a busy time of day. This was a safety issue because my car effectively lost power and I was stuck coasting on a road where traffic regularly travels between 45-50+ mph. The head gasket failure was confirmed by the local Honda dealer and was replaced under warranty (certified pre-owned).
Unknown Vehicle continues to display all warning lights on continuous jumping when driving. It took over seven months to obtain parts and took 26 hours to complete service leaving me without a vehicle. The damage received on the vehicle while waiting on parts caused more problems. Replacing the part after seven months of driving has caused my vehicle to deteriorate beyond repair in my opinion. I am requesting compensation or the ability to have a full inspection beyond the initial recalled parts in order to confirm that my vehicle is in proper working condition.
Every week the following warning lights keep coming on, brake System problem, vehicle stability assist, electric power steering system, hill start assist, acc, collision mitigation. And engine light. Has happened 6 times since purchase. Been to dealer 2 times and problem has not been addressed. They only fixed recall on fuel pump. Took it to dealer we purchased it from and they didn't do anything to fix problem.
My car will suddenly brake hard on its own with nothing in front of it at random times. The dash may or may not say BRAKE when this happens. This did not start until I had my windshield replaced. I have had the windshield camera recalibrated twice and it's still randomly stopping on its own.
The contact called on behalf of her son who owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started slowing down independently and was shaking abnormally. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact continued driving to the residence. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced; however, several unknown warning lights became illuminated. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the vehicle was not repaired because parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
MY HUSBAND RECENTLY GET THIS CAR WITH A LOAN. WE BEEN WITH THE CAR FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING MY DAUGTHERS TO SCHOOL ON THE HIGHWAY. MY CAR START ACTING UP. MY CAR START SHAKING LIKE IT WAS GONNA TURN OFF ON 45 MILES. AFTER THAT HAPPEND I FIND OUT THE IT WAS A RECALL ON MY HONDA ACCORD 2018 FUEL PUMP. I WENT TO A HONDA DEALER AND UNTIL THIS TIME NO ONE CAN HELP ME
I Have been waiting since August of 2024 to have my car repaired. I have called Honda numerous of times about my car not starting and stalling while driving. I was basically told that they will not order the part and replace until my car is fully not running at all. I was told I would have to pay for a diagnostic and for my vehicle to be towed to get looked before they can decide to order the part for my recall that is suppose to be Free. I am at the point of just taking this situation to Court.

Due to this recall that Honda dealers been says for almost a year they are out of the parts but I was able to schedule an appointment for recall but once I got to dealership I was told it’s on back order so my question to them was why was I able to schedule an appointment then .. my car went from getting 500 miles on a full tank of gas to getting 330 miles and that’s a problem for me ..
