While driving, a warning message appeared on the dashboard stating: “Supplemental Restraint System Problem. See Your Dealer.” The airbag warning light also illuminated. This indicates a malfunction within the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which controls airbag deployment and seatbelt pretensioners. At this time, it is UNKNOWN what specific component of the SRS failed or malfunctioned. and this issue first appeared 2 moths after purchase but its been coming on and half i don't know how serious this is. This malfunction places my safety and the safety of passengers at risk because the airbags or other restraint features may not function properly in the event of a collision. The problem has not yet been confirmed or repaired by a dealer, and no inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives has been completed as of this report. The warning lamps and message appeared suddenly while driving, with no prior symptoms, noises, or performance issues. Vehicle remains available for inspection if requested.
The head gasket needs replaced because of a faulty design....this is an expensive fix and one I think Honda knows about, but because the fix if almost all labor, they don't care because it is making them a ton of money on repairs. The engine block cooling is designed to cause a head gasket failure with can ruin the engine and even if you catch it, is very expensive to fix. and Honda doesn't even offer an adequate fix and this WILL happen again. I have talked to Honda techs who have confirmed that belief.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that occasionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and the engine lost compression. The check engine warning light was occasionally illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Car went into Limp mode, immediately brought to a Honda dealership. Planet Honda in NJ. Misfire in cylinder 3. Causation of misfire was a defect head gasket allowing coolant to flow into cylinder 3 causing a vehicle shut down and $3625 in repair costs. Warranty covered it but I have heard many other cases with this have not.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was extremely firm, with the power steering assist disabled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering gearbox and the rack and pinion were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
My car is always having some electrical issue but when I type in my VIN number, no recalls are listed under my VIN number and then for the last couple of days I've been experiencing acceleration problems when I look up a 2018 Honda Accord it is saying that fuel pumps have been an issue, but my VIN number pulls up no information as far as me falling under that recall what are the proper steps to get my car looked at to see if my VIN number Even though it's not populating, any recall falls under the recall
I attempted to start my vehicle's engine normally and the engine made a rough cranking sounded and then finally started. The dashboard displayed multiple warning messages immediately after: Emission system problem/avoid heavy acceleration and high speed/see your dealer, tire pressure monitor system problem/check tire pressure/see your dealer, brake system problem/brake performance may be reduced/see your dealer, brake hold system problem/apply brake when stopped/see your dealer, electric power steering system problem/steering assist reduced/see your dealer, vehicle stability assist system problem/reduced traction and handling/see your dealer, hill start assist problem/vehicle may roll upon brake release/see your dealer, adaptive cruise control system problem/see your dealer, collision mitigation braking system problem/see your dealer, road departure mitigation system problem/see your dealer. I was able to carefully drive and drop off the vehicle at the dealership. The dealership conducted an inspection and found "the check engine light was illuminated due to a misfire in cylinder two. The diagnosis has revealed that this is caused by a bad head gasket, which is allowing a small coolant leak into the cylinder. To address this issue, the technician is recommending the replacement of the cylinder head gasket and spark plugs. Additionally, the technician has noted that the fuel injectors are a known failure point and suggest replacing them as well while the work is being performed." Also, the service employee told me verbally that this is a common issue with the Honda 1.5 turbo engines and they see this all the time. I authorized the replacement of the cylinder head gasket and spark plus since the cost was covered under my existing powertrain warranty with Honda. After a week, the vehicle was released to me and working fine. My safety and the safety of others with a similar engine was put at risk due to no prior warning and the impairment of critical safety systems.
While driving the car, the oil light came on and the engine died. Losing vehicle power while driving poses a very serious safety risk. After taking it to a Honda dealership, the mechanic diagnosed the following issue: "head gasket has failed causing coolant to leak into Cylinder 3".
Failed head gasket. Resulting in complete engine replacement including turbo. Causing my car to go sluggish while driving Dealership inspected and confirmed engine and turbo replacement needed All the lights on the dashboard came on at time of incident
On August 7, 2025, the automatic braking system alerted with the sign break and then proceeded to stop the car when there was no object or vehicle in front of me. This would have been extremely dangerous. If there was someone behind me this is not the first time this has occurred it has happened several times.
Head Gasket Blown on a 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Turbo. Yes, yes warning lights have appeared.
This car came with problem and i want to this if honda can fix it for free since its they mistake
I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety-related defect in the 1.5L turbocharged engine used in the 2018 Honda Accord. My vehicle experienced a sudden and severe head gasket failure that appears to be related to a known design flaw affecting a significant number of Honda 1.5T engines. Many owners are reporting the same. Vehicle Information: Owner: [XXX] VIN: [XXX] Mileage at failure: 127,000 miles Location: [XXX] Phone: [XXX] or [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
As I was driving myself and child on the interstate 65 mph the vehicle all of a sudden dropped speed and would not accelerate. I drifted the car off the interstate off ramp and pulled into a store parking lot. Luckily, we did not cause an accident or hit anything or anyone. All the lights on car's dashboard blinking some examples are EPS, VSA, Malfunction lamp, Breaking system, check engine light, etc. My car did not show that it was running hot, was not smoking, however would not accelerate. The car had a slight rattle, running bad, shaking slightly; all in all, not working appropriately. No earlier indication that something was wrong just came all of a sudden, no warning at all. Car was brought to Billy Navarre in Lake Charles, LA, where they concluded that head gasket was blown. I had to come out of pocket to fix the head gasket and all of the other problems that it caused. Car milage 84,097, bought brand new in 2018. This is a major safety issue for the public! Multiple people have this same problem. I have documentation on all the work the dealership completed. And I have filed a report to Honda.
While driving my 2018 Honda Accord, the engine began running roughly and the check engine lights and multiple warning lights came on. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealership for diagnosis. The service department informed me that coolant was leaking into the engine, causing damage to the head gasket and cylinders 2 and 3. They confirmed this issue and recommended either an expensive head gasket/cylinder repair or a full engine replacement. Prior to this failure, I occasionally noticed mild engine hesitation, but no specific warning messages about low coolant or overheating appeared until the check engine light activated. The dealership stated this is not an uncommon issue with this engine. Upon further research, I discovered many other 2018 Accord owners with the same 1.5L turbocharged engine have reported coolant intrusion, cylinder damage, and head gasket failures — often affecting cylinders 2 and 3 specifically. This appears to be a design or manufacturing defect in the engine. This type of failure poses a safety risk due to potential engine misfires, power loss, or stalling while driving. The problem was confirmed by a licensed Honda service center, and I believe this issue should be investigated further for potential recall or manufacturer accountability.
Hi I just drive my car for about an 1hr and start losing power and a white smoke coming out the muffle I think the head gasket bad.
my 2018 Honda Accord is having major engine problems. Earlier this year all of the lights were coming on, 7 of them at a time, and that happened for a few weeks before it started overheating. If I was driving over 50mph, it wouldn't overheat, but if I was driving slow or idling, it was overheating within minutes. I took it to the shop in June where they discovered there was NO COOLANT inside the engine. they put 1.5 gallons of coolant in there, and it fixed the problem temporarily, but 2 weeks ago, all of the lights started coming on again. I called my mechanic, and he said his friend had a 2018 Honda Accord that was doing the same thing and that we need to approach Honda and ask them to fix the problem. turns out a lot of other people on the internet are reporting the exact same problem in their 2018 Honda Accords too, and there's even a class action floating somewhere out there because coolant is leaking into the chambers. we already had a fuel injector recall replaced by Honda last year.
I have a 2018 Honda Accord EX with 104,000 miles. Head gasket blew and coolant is leaking. Upon further research this is a common problem that is now being discovered once the car drives past 60,000 miles. There is an internal memo asking dealers to let them know if they are seeing this too online. Honda has several class action law suits regarding this being a design flaw of the 2018 with the 1.5 liter engine. I spoke with Honda and they offered no assitance, stating out of warranty and no recall. This is their design issue and in my opinion responsible for repairing this. Otherwise out of pocket its a 5k plus repair.
Backup camera has purple and green distortion that makes it hard to see what’s behind the vehicle when trying to backup. This is a permanent problem that can be inspected upon request. It involves a risk to myself and others by possibly causing injury or property damage. Asked dealership about it and they said it’s common issue and I would need a new camera. Not sure what caused it. It just happened one day and has been like that ever since for about 1 month. Contacted Honda Headquarters and they said they couldn’t do anything since there’s no recall with my VIN associated with it. Even a google search shows that there are too many others experiencing the same issue that this should be covered by a recall. It’s very dangerous to allow it to stay like this.
Emission system, low acceleration to the point it becomes a safety hazard in the freeway, I almost got rear ended twice, the car jolts, it stops out of no where, head gasket issues at only 65k. Maintenance was kept up but there’s a Facebook group called Honda sport 2018 to 22 on these models of the same issue “Christmas tree lights”
I currently own a 2018 Honda Accord 1.5L 4 cylinder with only 62,800 miles at the start of the issue. Around the end of July 2025 the car started to jerk. It started with a slight jerk and escalated daily, over about a week, until the car started going into limp mode. The car was taken to a repair shop near my house. This shop said they were receiving an engine misfire code, replaced all spark plugs, and car driving good again. Around 8/15/2025, I started having the same issues. On 8/19/25 the car went into limp mode again in a busy highway. Took it to a Honda/Acura repair shop. They again found the same misfire codes, replaced 1 spark plug, and the car was driving okay. This Honda/Acura shop found low coolant in the engine and believed I had a leaking head gasket as they have been seeing a high number of Honda 1.5L engines, similar years, with this issue. The shop suggested I contact Honda as it is a known issue. On 8/19, the Honda dealer service department told me they are seeing a lot of that issue but Honda has no current plan to extend warranties or issue a recall, despite the widespread, known issue. The dealership’s service department instructed me to call Honda corporate to discuss the issue and potential coverage. Corporate did open a case for a potential Good Faith repair. I was told that I would have to take it to a Honda dealership for official diagnostics, pay that fee out of pocket, then submit documents and info for coverage review. The car was driving okay for about 1 week and on 8/27/25, began having the same problems. I was able to get an appointment on 9/2/25 at the dealership. On 9/2/25, the dealership confirmed the head gasket is bad and the car requires head gasket, head bolt, belts, fuel injector, and coolant replacement, and oil change. The dealership again acknowledged this is a known issue with the vehicle. These vehicles are stopping on busy highways (with speed limit of 50mph) and interstates or going into limp mode, not going over 20mph.
07/30/25 - Over the course of 1 week, I have received three dashboard warnings "Supplemental Restraint System Problem. See Your Dealer" It goes away once car turns off. Honda of Katy states to bring in when alert still on dashboard (which will disappear when car turned off) but quoted will be required to sign a $215 diagnostic fee. No charge if it is just an error code. But $215 can be used toward repair. This is a SAFETY ISSUE and should be a SAFETY RECALL as owners should not need to pay for manufacturer DEFECTS. I can not afford to fix since still paying off the known issue of fuel injectors failing but not yet SAFETY RECALLED. Please help.
I was traveling at 55mph when the car lost power on the freeway. I had to make my way to the shoulder. I could only travel 10mph. I had the car inspected by an independent mechanic and Honda Dealership. I was told it was the head gasket. I am told by Honda it will cost $5500 to fix. I did some research on this issue and found it to be a design flaw due to the channels that are put in the engine block to pass coolant. I found this is a prevalent and Honda did confirm it. Honda denied helping to fix the car and even though they know about the issue. We purchased this car brand new in 2018 and we thought we had a reliable vehicle with Honda's reputation. Honda's good will program did not accept the case either.
On the morning of July 26, 2025, while returning home from a grocery shopping trip, my vehicle experienced a sudden and severe loss of power while traveling on an interstate highway with a posted speed limit of 65 mph. Without warning, the car ceased to accelerate and began to decelerate rapidly. I immediately activated my hazard lights and attempted to locate a safe area to stop. Vehicles traveling behind and alongside me were forced to brake abruptly to avoid a collision. Fortunately, no accident occurred, though the situation clearly presented a significant risk of one. After pulling onto the shoulder, I turned the vehicle off and restarted it. It initially appeared to operate normally, allowing me to resume driving. However, within a few minutes, the loss-of-power incident occurred again. I managed to pull over a second time, restart the vehicle, and continue the approximately 10-minute drive home without further incident. Upon taking the car to my mechanic, I was informed that coolant was present in one of the cylinders, indicating a failed head gasket. The mechanic advised that I bring the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership for repair. The Honda service department performed diagnostics and confirmed the head gasket failure. The repair cost was $3,758, which I paid in full. Subsequent research revealed that this appears to be a widespread issue affecting certain Honda models manufactured between 2018 and 2022. I discovered numerous consumer complaints online and learned that a class action lawsuit has been filed regarding this exact defect. Based on my understanding, head gasket failures are uncommon—particularly in vehicles with relatively low mileage. My vehicle has approximately 83,000 miles on it. While I am dissatisfied with the substantial financial burden of this repair, my greater concern lies with the serious safety risk posed by the sudden loss of power at highway speeds. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed.
This is regarding TSB 21-087, Warranty Extension for 2018 Accord Paint B-757P Still Night Pearl. I was not informed in writing as per required customer notification in 2001. The extended warranty was for 7 years from date of purchase with no mileage limit. When I noticed the paint peel on the roof seams on the left side and right side of the roof, I asked the local dealership today on 7/25/2025. They said I was a few weeks past the expiration date and I had to contact American Honda. While at the dealership getting maintenance performed, I contacted them via chat and they directed me to call instead. I called Honda and they said once the expiration date has passed, there was nothing to be done. I asked for good will and she declined. They will not provide email of incident, as per my request, from discussion but did open case and assigned a case number. Honda stated my only recourse was to pay for damage out of my pocket or wait to see if Honda will possibly extend the warranty and that it was my responsibility to contact them since they will not provide any notification again. So, my vehicle will continue to rust from the paint peel on the roof on a daily basis in the Florida sun. Or I have the option to pay out of pocket now and, if warranty extension approved request reimbursement.
I had been driving down highway and all of a sudden my car put on brakes hard. Thank goodness no one was behind me. I had dealer turn off that feature so it wouldn't happen again. I still experience my brake light flashing when nothing in road to brake for but doesn't brake on its own. Issue having now is issues starting car and once it starts I recieved a collision mediations issue pop-up on display saying see dealer now. Cruise control issue, and on dash has traction control saying ignitionating continue driving. The braking issue started right after purchase in 2018. The starting issue started yesterday 7/25/2025.
I was driving around and all of sudden my car dashboard shows the Supplemental Restraint system problem.
Honda has known for years that the 1.5L engines installed in 2018 or newer Honda Accords have issues with oil dilution causing major catastrophic engine failures, head gasket damage, fluids leaking into the cylinders, and costly repairs to cars with less than 86000 miles on them. Honda Corporation needs to address this concern before someone dies when the cars engine fails on the highway. My vehicles engine failed on a major road when I pushed on the gas peddle and had no power due to these concerns. Dealership stated numerous vehicles are coming in with these concerns right now which begs the question that it is not a one off situation but a failure of Honda Corporation.
Engine overheating due to coolant leaking and car needing head gasket replacement Fuel injectors also failed
I have a 2018 Honda accord 1.5t I have always done oil changes and maintenance accordingly. My car went into limp mode over the summer. I brought it to my dealership who said the head gasket was bad and it was going to cost over 5,000$ to fix. This is a known problem on these cars as I have gathered information all over the internet. Honda refuses to do the right thing and have a recall. I do not have the money to replace the head gasket at the hefty dealership level. I have been waiting over 3 months in an attempt of a DIY replacement. The company I have been ordering with has had many issues and I am still without a vehicle. The vehicle only has 138,000 miles
After having the fuel pump recall completed on my Honda Accord, I began experiencing serious engine problems that I had not had before the recall repair. Shortly afterward, my vehicle developed a blown head gasket, coolant leaking into the engine, and turbo issues. These failures occurred outside of my extended warranty (which has also since expired), but they started only after the recall work was performed. I contacted my dealership and Honda corporate for assistance through a goodwill request, but they denied coverage, stating I am outside of warranty and they cannot determine fault. However, I have since learned that other Honda owners have reported experiencing the same or very similar engine issues after this recall repair. Currently, the vehicle is undriveable without risking complete engine failure. The cost of repair is extremely high, leaving me at a financial loss for a problem I believe is directly related to the manufacturer’s recall repair.
Car had a rough start one morning. The engine light came on. All safety features were disabled. I took it to the car dealership that same day (sunset Honda San Luis Obispo California) they got back to me and said the car had head gasket failure. The dealership was the only person to do any meaningful mechanical work ( I did the oil changes) including transmission fluid and coolant changes spark plugs, belt sand valve adjustments etc. car is driven lightly as a daily commuter for work
Parking brake suddenly engaged while in traffic car would not move. Car had to be towed brake pads were replaced but mechanic stated parking brake had defect that only the dealer can repair.
I was merging onto the freeway and my car went into limp mode. I was lucky enough to pull over to the side because I was on the far right lane. I took the car to the dealer and was told that the car had blown it's head gasket. How can a 2018 honda accord have blown a head gasket so soon? I looked online and many other 2018 honda owners reported the same issues.
Emergency Braking System engaged for no apparent reason with no other vehicles on the road. Potential for rear-end collision. This was the first event. Personally inspected forward looking sensors / camera for blockage, none found. Did not notice any messages or warning during the event. Wasn't looking at the dash during the event.
Driving down the road, no cars or obstacles in front of me. Out of nowhere the automatic emergency breaking came on. The car slammed on the breaks and very quickly came to a complete stop in the middle of the road. If there happened to be another car behind me they would have rear-ended me. There were no warnings prior to this happening.
I was behind another vehicle with the adaptive cruise control on and been following the for some distance at a speed below the cruise control setting. Warning came on for the braking mitigation, cruise control disengaged, vehicle began coasting but did not brake. I continued home driving without any other changes, but warning stayed on. After arriving turned vehicle off and restarted, Warning did not come back on. I have not driven vehicle since. I checked and found other reports of similar problems and am filing this report. Will continue driving with extra caution and report any other occurrences.
Engine malfunction. Goes into “limp mode” going over 1800 RPM. Dealer has replaced engine coils and plugs multiple times. Sold as Honda True Used with warranty. Dealer states it’s out of warranty.
The engine coolant began to leak into the cylinders of the engine. The engine began to overheat in the middle of the freeway. I had to shutdown the car down and get it towed. The car is available for inspection. Yes, my safety was at risk. Diagnostics from the dealership indicated that the problem is a design flaw with the head gasket being too thin. There were no indications that the car was going to stall until after it stalled. Honda is putting our lives at risk by allowing citizens to drive a car that has an engine become locked/stall/overheat by design and without warning.
Head gasket blown
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH while driving. In addition, the contact stated when the vehicle was started, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with head gasket, fuel injectors, and turbo charger failures. The contact was informed that the head gasket, fuel injector, and the turbo charger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,012.
July 10th Honda went into limp mode as I accelerated would not drive over 20. Check engine light flashed on then off. Have taken car in several times no codes can be read. Believe it’s cylinder issues or fuel possible head gasket. All vehicle lights has displayed haven’t been able to get reads once car is turned off. Too many issues with no repair fix.
- Year: 2018 - Make: Honda - Model: Accord Sport 1.5 Turbo - Vehicle Identification Number : [XXX] I am writing to report a safety concern with my 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5 Turbo. The vehicle has developed a head gasket problem, which has resulted in significant engine issues. Additionally, I have experienced fuel injector problems, leading to decreased fuel efficiency and rough engine performance. Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule and addressing the issues with the dealer, the problems persist. I have been quoted $7,800 for repairs, which is unacceptable given the vehicle's age and mileage (currently 114,848 miles). I am concerned about the safety and reliability of the vehicle, especially when driving on the highway. The vehicle's blown head gasket has caused ¹: - Loss of power, leading to potential safety issues on the road - Engine hesitation and shutdown while driving, which can increase the risk of accidents I request that NHTSA investigate this matter further and take necessary actions to address the recurring issues with the 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Turbo engine. I would appreciate guidance on potential next steps to resolve this issue and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability. - Repair estimates and records from the dealer - Maintenance records, including oil changes and fuel system cleanings - Correspondence with Honda dealership and corporate office Other owners have reported similar issues with the 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Turbo, including fuel injector problems and blown head gaskets ² ³ ⁴. Please Help us. Investigate this issue and help us the consumers. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I never was informed about the fuel pump recall , all the lights on my car came on , acceleration was slower , car was jerking , and when taking it to Honda they stated 2 of my cylinders has a misfire and water or coolant leaked and blew my head gasket , the car never ran hot and the guy asked did any light come on and I told him for some old reason every light on the dash was on and the car is vibrating while even in park reverse and when it's moving . I've read up on this and there are numerous of people with this same issue and this should mean something , Honda stated it would cost 6000 to fix when they should have already been warning people of the matter ahead of time . For some odd reason the car would just drive 10mph when I am driving jumping out in traffic having to pull over and restart the car . Guy at Honda even stated fuel pump could have been the issue and they have witness this with other cars like mine
I am writing regarding my recently purchased used 2018 Honda Accord. The car has low mileage and initially ran well, but it has developed a recurring cylinder misfire problem. When this happens, the car slows down and cannot exceed 20 mph. This issue has occurred several times—once while my daughter was driving on the highway, creating a dangerous situation as she tried to pull over safely. I took the car to both a Honda dealership and an independent mechanic. The dealership diagnosed a head gasket issue and quoted over $6,000 for repairs. However, the independent shop could not identify the issue—no error codes appeared during their diagnostic scan. After I shared the dealer’s diagnosis, the independent mechanic mentioned that this may be a known design flaw in certain Honda Accords from this model range. From what I’ve learned, the problem involves the engine’s cooling system design. The coolant travels inside the engine around the outside of the cylinders, and Honda used a small channel between cylinders to allow coolant flow. This channel appears to be the failure point, leading to head gasket problems in multiple vehicles. I believe this may be a systemic issue affecting many Honda Accords with this design, and I urge someone from this office to investigate and make Honda take responsibility for these repairs. I am in a position where I am able to transition away from this vehicle, so this will not help me. So I hope you are able to help other, because the repair bill could cripple people and hinder them for using a vehicle that they rely on to provide for themselves and their family.
I went to enter the highway and the car would not accelerate and the check engine light was flashing and went into a limp mode. I got it looked at it it was giving me the misfire code for cylinder 2. I paid over $1k and had all the spark plugs replaced and coils. It was fine and then 6 days later it happened again. The mechanic looked at it pressurized with the bore scope and saw coolant. Then we knew it was the head gasket. This is crazy especially with Hondas being known for reliability. I’m at 87k miles and have been seeing that this happening to many others.
