TRANSMISSION HAS A SHUTTER WHEN CAR IS WARMED UP. CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WITH 70K IN MILES AND DEALERSHIP HAS SAID IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. *NLM
WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY THE CONSUMER STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN THE CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO PROCEED THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD. *NLM THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A RE-MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION. *SCC
AIR BAG INDICATIOR KEPT ON ALL THE TIME. *AK
POWER WINDOWS FAIL. THE INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 7 TIMES IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS. SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES SAY THAT ONE MUST LUBRICATE THE WINDOW RUNNERS. THE OWNER'S MANUAL EITHER FAILS TO MENTION THIS MAINTENANCE OR THE EXISTENCE OF SUCH MAINTENANCE. THE PART IS ALWAYS REPLACED AND ALWAYS FAILS. *JB
THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON -- DEFECTIVE THROUGHOUT. MAJOR PROBLEM IS A TRANSMISSION THAT HAS FAILED TWICE -- ONCE BEING REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER ONLY AFTER TWO YEARS OF COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BEING UNABLE TO DRIVE ANY DISTANCES, AND AFTER NUMEROUS TIMES I PAID TO HAVE THE PROBLEM UNRESOLVED. SINCE IT WAS REPLACED IN JULY 2001, I BEGAN COMPLAINING AGAIN ABOUT PROBLEMS IN MAY OF 2002, ONLY TO GET THE SAME RUN AROUND AGAIN. COSTING ME MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSION FOR WHICH THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR DEFECT. FINALLY GOT IT FIXED AND THE WARRANTY EXTENDED FOR THE SECOND TIME, BUT IN THE MEANTIME, CHECK OUT THE VIN NUMBERS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND YOU'LL MANY OTHER HONDA OWNERS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND VERY SIMILAR VIN NUMBERS. LATE FALL 2002 TO WINTER 2003 DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT WAS FIXED THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAILED. I HAD TO DRIVE DOWN THE FREEWAY IN THE RAIN TO GET HOME WITH A WINDOW I COULD ONLY PULL UP HALF WAY. BUT TO TOP THINGS OFF, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR THIS MONTH. WORSE OF ALL, MY CAR WAS EXPERIENCE SYMPTOMS THAT WERE APPARENTLY ATTRIBUTED TO THE ALTERNATOR BACK IN MARCH 31, 1999 SERVICE BULLETIN 98-029. HOWEVER, HONDA NEVER NOTIFIED THE VEHICLE OWNERS. THEY JUST PLAYED THE ODDS THAT THE MAJORITY WOULD FAIL OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY A DIME. IT AMAZES ME THAT OUR GOVERNMENT ALLOWS AUTO MANUFACTURERS TO GET AWAY WITH THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS PRACTICE. JUST BECAUSE A PART FAILURE MAY NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT DANGEROUS. IF I'M COMMUTING 100 MILES A DAY, AS I HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, AND MY CAR BROKE DOWN WHO KNOWS WHERE, I COULD VERY WELL BE IN DANGER AS A SINGLE WOMEN TRAVELING A LONE. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO COUNT ON MY VEHICLE, WHICH I HAVE GONE OUT OF MY WAY TO INSURE WAS ALWAYS PROPERLY SERVICED. I CAN NOT TRUST HONDA AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE.
THE POWER WINDOWS HAVE FAILED AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES IN THE FIVE YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER PERSISTS TO PUT A DEFECTIVE WINDOW MOTOR INTO THE VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH THE WINDOW HAS FAILED SO MANY TIMES, HONDA NOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVES HAS CORRECTED THIS PROBLEM.
SINCE OCT '02, I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE RECALL FOR EMISSIONS. EACH TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON, I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED. THE FIRST TIME, THE COMPUTER WENT BAD AND WAS REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME, THE O2 SENSOR WENT BAD AND THE CAR STALLED OUT ON A BUSY INTERSTATE IN NC WHERE CONSTRUCTION IS BEING DONE AND THERE ARE NO SHOULDERS TO PULL OFF ON. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THE ENTIRE EMISSIONS SYSTEM COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY INSTEAD OF COSTING THEIR CONSUMERS TIME AND A LOT OF AGGRAVATION BY FIXING THE PROBLEMS ONE AT A TIME. THIS WILL ABSOLUTELY BE THE LAST HONDA I OWN DUE TO THIS ONE SITUATION. I'M SICK OF SPENDING TIME IN THE DEALERSHIP HAVING TO WAIT FOR THEM TO TELL ME WHAT THE CURRENT PROBLEM IS. A CAR THAT IS 6 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE WHOLE EMISSIONS SYSTEM REPLACED IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO FIX IT.
SRS LIGHT STAYED ON. DEALER STATED "BAD UNIT", COST UNIT:$495.00 LABOR:$119.25 MILEAGE:43,203 THIS IS MY THIRD HONDA, BUT THE FIRST TO GIVE ANY PROBLEMS. ALTHOUGH I COULD FIND NO RECALL ISSUED ABOUT SRS UNITS IN HONDA'S, I DID FIND 47 COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA(NOT COUNTING MINE). I DIDN'T INCLUDE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FAILURE TO DEPLOY AIRBAGS, AIRBAGS DEPLOYING W/O CAUSE AND AIRBAGS DEPLOYING W/O INFLATING. I FIND IT VERY DISHEARTENING THAT A COMPANY SUCH AS HONDA WOULD HIDE A OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS SAFETY DEFECT FROM IT'S CONSUMERS.
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FEELS ROUGH OR NOTCHY WHEN YOU PRESS IT. THE CAR DOES NOT RESPOND PROPERLY WHEN TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS AND ARE REQUIRED TO MOVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MAKE SLIGHT SPEED ADJUSTMENTS. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED FOR 1996 HONDA CIVIC. I HAVE IT ON MY 1997 CIVIC. HONDA WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM ON MY 1997 CIVIC. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFTEY HAZARD. IF THE THROTTLE CABLE STICKING PROBLEM BECOMES WORSE, IT COULD CAUSE THE THROTTLE TO STICK WIDE OPEN.
I PURCHASED AN AUTOMATIC 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX FROM COSTA MESA HONDA IN COSTA MESA, CA ON MARCH 11, 2000. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 27,000 MILES ON IT. TODAY (2/6/03) THE CAR HAS A TOTAL OF 50,734 MILES ON IT. I HAVE PERSONALLY ONLY DRIVEN 24,000 MILES IN A TOTAL OF 3 YEARS. THE TRANSMISSION IS TOAST AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN TRANSMISSION RECALLS/ WARRANTY EXTENSIONS ON OTHER HONDA MAKES AND MODELS. THE '97 CIVIC UNFORTUNATELY IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO A MECHANIC NOT AFFILIATED WITH HONDA FOR A "SECOND" OPINION AND THE MECHANIC HAS STATED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO SUCH A "YOUNG" CAR WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES. HE SAID THAT MOST VEHICLES DON'T EXPERIENCE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS UNTIL THEY HAVE REACHED AN EXCESS OF 90- 100,000 MILES. BASED ON THE INFORMATION HE HAS GATHERED FROM MY SERVICE RECORDS AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION PROVIDED FROM OTHER SOURCES, HE BELIEVES THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WHICH I HAVE CAUSED. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD REPLACE/FIX THE TRANSMISSION FREE OF CHARGE OR FOR MINIMAL COST TO ME. THEY ARE STATING THAT BECAUSE I DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHEN I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IT STILL HAD THE NORMAL FACTORY 3 YEAR... 36,000 MILE WARRANTY IN PLACE). I FEEL THAT HONDA IS RIPPING ME OFF BY NOT WORKING WITH ME ON THIS ISSUE. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA AND I WILL BE SURE THAT NO ONE IN MY FAMILY OR ANY OF MY CLOSE FRIENDS EVER PURCHASE A HONDA. I WOULD HATE FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO GO THROUGH THE SAME THING I AM.
WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PETAL, IT FEELS ROUGH AND NOTCHY. IT'S HARD TO ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY. STARTED TO NOTICE THE PROBLEM AT ABOUT 85,000 MILES. THEN, WHEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO SCOTT ROBINSON HONDA IN TORRANCE AND THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY MY DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IS WAS COVERED BY HONDA EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP ALL DAY, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT IT WASN'T MY DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM, BUT MY TRANSMISSION. HE SAID THAT THE COMPUTER'S DIAGNOSED CODE WAS(PO715), WHICH MEANS THAT THE MAINSHAFT SPEED SENSOR FAILED. HE SAID THAT SINCE THAT PART IS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, THEY FELT I SHOULD HAVE IT REPLACED. THEY WANTED ME TO SPEND $3,500.00 ON A REBUILT ONE TO REPLACE MINE. I ASKED HIM IF MY CAR WOULD BE OK TO DRIVE AROUND WITHOUT REPLACING IT, HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW. IT COULD DIE ON ME IN A WEEK, OR IN A YEAR. SO FAR, MY CAR IS STILL RUNNING. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A REQUIRED SERVICE DATE. MY ENGINE LIGHT STILL OCCASIONALLY COMES ON, AND I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EACH TIME TO RESET THE COMPUTER SO IT WILL GO OFF. THE GAS PETAL STILL FEELS ROUGH WHEN I PRESS ON IT FROM A COMPLETE STOP. I TOLD HONDA ABOUT THE RECALL #99I002000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND ASKED THEM IF THEY WOULD REPLACE MY THROTTLE CABLE. HONDA INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NO SUCH RECALL ON A 1997 HONDA CIVIC. I PRINTED OUT THE INFO FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND FAXED IT TO THEM. I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK. *NLM
SRS LIGHT CAME ON 1/24/03 AND STAYED ON. TOOK TO DEALER, MANCHESTER HONDA, ON 1/28/03 FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD SRS UNIT FAILURE CODE 7-2. I HAVE A 1997 HONDA CIVI WITH 71,464 MILES ON IT. THE PART THAT NEEDS REPLACEMENT IS #77960-S04-N81. THE PART COSTS $368.70 AND THE INSTALLATION CHARGE QUOTED FOR ME WAS $72.00. IT COST ME 85.86 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGOSED. THE SERVICE REPAIR MAN INSISTED THIS WAS NOT A DEFECTIVE PART, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. I'VE RESEARCHED YOUR WEB SITE AND FOUND NUMBEROUS BULLETINS DETAILING FAILURE OF THE SRS SYSTEM WITH THE 1997 HONDA CIVIC. I ALSO FOUND RECENT SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SRS SYSTEM FOR 2003 HONDA CIVICS AND 2002 HONDA ACCORDS. CLEARLY THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT HONDA AND NHTSA HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR SOME TIME AND THERE HAS YET TO BE A RECALL. THIS POSES A THREAT TO MY PERSONAL SAFETY. I WAS EXPLICITY TOLD THAT UNTIL I HAVE THIS REPAIR DONE, THE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE SRS WOULD NOT DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR SHOULD I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I AM FORCED TO MAKE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR TO A DEFECTIVE HONDA COMPONENT THAT THE DEALER SHOULD BE PAYING FOR AND CORRECTING. AND YET THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND SELLING 2003 MODELS THAT OBVIOUSLY HAVE THE SAME DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS. HONDA NEEDS TO BE ORDERED TO BEGIN A RECALL IMMEDIATELY, SINCE THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THE PROBLEM VOLUNTARILY.
THE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED EARLY UPON, WITHIN WARRANTY. IT WAS REPAIRED BY WARRANTY. MY POWER SUNROOF / MOONROOF HAS QUIT WORKING, I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPING, PART BECAUSE OF MY FAULT I WOULD ASSUME AND APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD. DOESN\\'T HELP DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 401 IN TORONTO THOUGH. ALL IN ALL, IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR. I HAVE 362,000 KM ON IT NOW AND SHE STILL DRIVES LIKE NEW.
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY POWER WINDOWS IN MY 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE WINDOWN WILL ONLY GO BACK UP HALFWAY AND GETS OFF TRACK, IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES. I FINALLY PLACED THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN GOT OFF TRACK AGAIN. I AM SIGNLE FEMALE AND HAVE TO PAY EVERYTIME TO GET IT BACK ON TRACK. I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $200.00 ON GETTING IT LOOKED AT, PUT BACK TOGETHER BECAUSE I DO A LOT OF TRAVEL WITH MY JOB. I KNOW TWO OTHER PEOPLE (MODELS 2003 & 1997) WHO HAVE SIMIALR PROBLEMS. A MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR HAS A MAL-FUNCTION. I LOVE MY HONDA AND MECHANICALLY IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR EXCEPT FOR BACK TIRES LOCKING UP THIS PAST WINTER BUT I THINK THAT WAS DUE TO COLD WEATHER. I PLAN TO PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA BUT MY WINDOW IS AN AGGRAVATION. I HAD THE CHECKED AT KOLBE HONDA WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THOUGHT THE PORBLEMS RELATED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WOULD BE COVERED BY MFG WARRANTY IT WAS NOT. AFTER I HAVE LEARNED THAT THREE SENSORS DEFECTED AS FOUND IN DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS. I WENT ON TO REPLACE ALL THREE SENSORS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT, I DO PLAN ON MAKING A APPOINTMENT WITH KOLBE TO FURTHER MORE ON DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINE IF THIS IS COVERED BY MANUFACTORY RECALL OR WARRANTY COVERAGE. I ALSO HAVE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, AFTER 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. THE TRANSMISSION STARTS TO SLIP OR HESITATE AT TAKE OFF, FROM SECOND GEAR TO FOURTH SHIFT SPEED ALSO CHANGES. LIKE IN THE BEGINNING THE SHIFT PATTERNS APPEARS NORMAL, 1ST GEAR (0MPH TO 25MPH) 2 GEAR (25MPH TO 35MPH) 3 GEAR (35MPH TO 45-50 MPH) 4 GEAR (DIRECT DRIVE), AFTER 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING IT IS REDUCED BY 10MPH AT GEARS. I CAN'T AFFORD RENTAL CAR IF THE DEALERSHIP REQUIRES TO HOLD THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN ONE DAY. MY WIFE AND I AND MY KIDS CARPOOL IN THIS CAR DAILY, IT IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. DT

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND NONE OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALER. MR
CONSUMER STATES THAT GAS PEDAL SOMETIMES STICKS WHEN COMPRESSED. CONSUMER FEELS UNSAFE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *MR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SRS LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SERVICED FOR THE SRS ISSUE, BUT IT IS STILL OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,583 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THE SRS LIGHT STAY ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. *AK THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SRS LIGHT STAYING ILLUMINATED WAS CAUSED BY INTERNAL SRS UNIT FAILURE. *YH
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK IN PLACE WHEN THEY WERE REAR ENDED. CAUSING MINOR INJURIES. MR CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN REAR ENDED, THEY WERE FORCED INTO A CAR IN THE FRONT OF THEM. SUBSTAINED DAMAGE TO FRONT AND REAR BUMPER. PH 09-DEC-2002

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY ANOTHER CAR MADE A SUDDEN STOP, AND CONSUMER RAN INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER MOTORIST AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF.*JB
ON 5/30/02, I DROVE MY CIVIC HOME FROM AUSTIN, TX ON HWY 71 AT 60MPH. ON APPROACHING HWY I-10 VIBRATIONS AT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WERE FELT. WHEN I GOT ON HWY I-10 AT 2PM THAT WHEEL BECAME BUMPY, FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BANG FROM ITS COVER/FENDER, SHAKING SO STRONGLY THAT I HAD TO PULL OVER. I FOUND THE TIRE'S TREATED PORTION PEELED OFF AND LOST, AND THE LOWER FORWARD CORNER OF THE WHEEL COVER BROKEN LOOSE, DANGLING OUTWARDS. I MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME USING THE SPARE TIRE, ALTHOUGH THE CAR SEEMED NO LONGER ROAD-WORTHY. DT
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1997 HONDA CIVIC FROM MY SISTER, WHO DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE SRS LIGHT BEING ON WAS A PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN ON FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS (SINCE ABOUT 60K MILES). I AM LOOKING INTO HAVING IT REPLACED, BUT ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH, HONDA DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM INDICATES THAT IT IS A $400+ REPAIR AND THE REPAIR DOES NOT LAST. THEY HAVE BLAMED IT ON A MULTITUDE OF THINGS INCLUDING USING A CELL PHONE, A LOW BATTERY, AND A DEFECTIVE PART. THIS MAKES HONDA VEHICLES UNRELIABLE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, UNSAFE. I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON MANY DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS OF HONDA VEHICLES.
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WHILE TRAVELING AT 40 MPH. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE SRS LIGHT WAS ON AFTER THE ACCIENT JBUT THE MANUFACUTRE REFUSED TO INSPECT THE AIR BAG. THEY JUST INDICATED BY OBSERVATION THAT THE WAY THE VEHCILE WAS HIT THAT IT DIDN'T IMPACT THE SENSOR TO TRIGGER THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN ANOTHER HEAD ON COLLISION A YEAR LATER. UPON IMPACT THE WINDSHIELD CRACK AND THE INTERIROR REAR VIEW MIRROW DETACHED. ALSO SEVERAL ENGINE COMPONENTS WERE MANGALED UPON IMPACT. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, BOTH AIRBAGS WENT OFF WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, ONE PERSON WAS INJURED.*AK
DT: THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK TO DEALER, THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TEST PULLED CODE 22 HIGH RESISTANCE IN PASSENGER AIRBAG. TECH SUGGESTED TO REPLACE PASSENGER AIR BAG AT COST $837.00. THE CONSUMER WENT NHTSA WED SITE AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON 1997 HONDA CIVIC. SPOKE TO MANUFACTURER, THEY SAID RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THE VIN. *NM
TRANSMISSION PROBLEM DETECTED AND CONFIRMED BY GRESHAM HONDA. SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR 1997 HONDA CIVIC OWNERS. HONDA ACKNOWLEGED PREMATURE TRANNY FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY HALF FOR REPLACEMENT. CAR WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME WHILE PART IS BEING ORDERED AND WHILE DRIVING TODAY FROM A STOP LIGHT ON A HILL CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AND STARTED TO SLIP BACKWARDS. LUCKILY BY FLOORING IT I WAS ABLE TO PREVENT BACKWARDS SLIDE INTO VEHILCE BEHIND ME BUT FEEL SOMEONE NEEDS TO CONTACT HONDA AND START A RECALL ON THIS MODEL FOR A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. IN MY CASE THEY HAVE AGREED TO COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COST TO INSTALL A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION BUT I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS OFFER AND FEEL YOU COULD BE LOOKING AT MANY MORE ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE INJURIES BY THE SUDDEN JERKING FROM STOP WHILE CAR TRIES TO GO INTO GEAR. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS IMMEDIATELY AND PREVENT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM BEING INJURED BY THIS KNOWN DEFECT THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED CORRECTLY.*AK
VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN ABOUT 12-20 TIMES AT ANY SPEED. CONSUMER WILL APPLY BRAKES, AND DEPRESS CLUTCH TO SLOW VEHICLE. RPMS GO UP TO 7000. MECHANIC CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 55 MPH, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED, ONE PERSON WAS INJURED. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. *AK *JG
TOOK CAR IN FOR 60000 SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP AND WITHIN TWO WEEKS MY V-TECH TRANSMISSION BROKE DOWN ON THE FREEWAY. HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT THIS SPECIFIC PART IS DEFECTIVE. THESE V-TECH TRANSMISSIONS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. THERE ARE MANY MORE HONDA CIVIC OWNERS THAT KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!*AK
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON ALL DAY. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, WHO INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED, OR AIR BAGS WILL MALFUNCTION IN A CRASH.*AKVEHICLE OWNER HAS BEEN SENT A FREE SERVICE REMINDER FOR TECHNICAL PROBLEMS WITH ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC, THAT CAUSES IT TO NOT COMPLY WITH THE FEDERAL CLEAN AIR ACT. *JG

AIR BAG LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS COME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER NOTED THAT POTENTIALLY AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY OR DEPLOY UNEXPECTEDLY. *AK
TRANSMISSION STARTS SLIPPING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. VEHICLE HAS A CLEAN HISTORY AND HASNT BEEN DRIVEN HARD. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR AND IDENTICAL PPROBLEMS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY FAR TO FEW MILES ON THE CAR FOR A PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE SINCE IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED AND REPLACEMENT COSTS ARE IN EXCESS OF $5000. HONDA REFUSES TO ASSIST ME WITH THIS AND I THINK IT WARRANTS A RECALL OR AT LEAST SOME KIND OF INVESTIGATION INTO THEIR PRODUCT. *AK
SRS LIGHT HAS COME ON 3 TIMES. THE FIRST TWO VISITS PETERSEN MOTORS RESET THE SYSTEM, FOUND NOTHING. THE FIRST TIME PETERSEN MOTORS SUGGESTED IT WAS CAUSED BY LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE. NONSENSE, THEY DIDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM AND THE BATTERY IS NEW. THEY CLEARED THE CODE AND CHARGED $72. AFTER THE 2ND VISIT, I WAS TOLD IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG. AFTER THE 2ND VISIT THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON WITHIN 2 WEEKS. AFTER 3RD INCIDENT, PETERSEN MOTORS STATED OVER THE PHONE IT IS THE CONTROL UNIT WHICH WOULD COST ABOUT $460 TO REPLACE. ON EACH OF THE 3 OCCASIONS, I STOPPED THE CAR BRIEFLY. WHEN I RESTARTED MY CAR, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. AT THIS TIME I HAVEN'T HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED. 2 OF 4 ORIGINAL FIRESTONE TIRES FAILED. THE 1ST FAILURE OCCURRED AS I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT - IT HAD A RADIAL PULL, CAUSING THE CAR TO TURN UPON ACCELERATION. THE 2ND FIRESTONE TIRE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ABOUT 26,000 MILES. AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL HOURS AT 75 MPH ON A 95 DEGREE DAY, THERE WAS A BULGE IN THE SIDEWALL. AT THAT TIME I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND. NLM
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. TRANSMISSION SLIPPED/JERKED WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. AUTO HAD MAJOR SERVICE AT APPROX 64,402 MI. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 71,911 MILES. ST CHECKED AND STATED COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. ST CHANGED COMPUTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AT 80,241 MILES, ST STATES TRANSMISSION FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED. *AK
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD. WHILE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY ANOTHER MOTORIST HIT HIM, AND AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO STATED THAT CONTROL UNIT WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. *AK. *JB
WHEN DRIVING HEADLIGHTS AND INSTURMENT PANAL GET REALLY BRIGHT AND GO BACK TO NORMAL LIKE THEY FLICKER BRIGHT HAVE CHANGED BOTH ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND STILL DOES IT. *AK
