TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL# 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). HE WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,569.
A TOTAL IGNITION CUTOFF HAS BEEN OCCURRING ON MY 1999 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE CAR HAS 151K MILES.IT HAS CUTOFF ON THE FWY AT 65MPH.THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED,ETC. CANADA HONDA HAS A RECALL FOR 97 THRU 2001 ACCORDS,CIVICS,CRVS TO REPLACE FAULTY ELECTRICAL SWITCH ON THE KEYLOCK.:USA HONDA IS NOT DOING THIS RECALL,WHY NOT? I WOULD THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THOSE THAT EXPERIENCE THIS DANGEROUS OCCURENCE. I VISITED A LOCAL HONDA DEALER W THIS PROBLEM, THE SERVICE WRITER STATED THAT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. ALL CIVICS ARE BUILT IN CANADA AND THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME TYPE OS ELECTRICAL ASSY ATTACHED TO THE KEY ASSY. I WOULD THINK THAT ALL THESE ASSYS SHOULD BE REPLACED .THE ASSY COSTS ABOUT 48.00 AND DEALER WANTS 150.00 LABOR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, INTERNET SEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM HAS SURFACED MANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF THIS IGNITION CUTOFF DUE TO BAD ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LATCH FOR THE HOOD WOULD NOT RELEASE WHEN ITS CABLE WAS PULLED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT IN OCTOBER 2009, THE HOOD CABLE RELEASE WAS REPAIRED WITH AN IMPROVED PRODUCT; HOWEVER, IN JULY 2011 THE COMPONENT FAILED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,513.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THAT THERE WAS AN EXISTING RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT RECALL CAMPAIGN 02V120000, WHICH WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 211000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER COASTED ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURES OCCURRED TWELVE DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. GOOD AFTERNOON, I HAVE A 1999 HONDA CIVIC LX, WHEN I'M DRIVING AT THE SPEED LIMIT OR IDLING AT A STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE JUST DIES FOR NO REASON. YOU LOSE ALL POWER STEERING CONTROL AND POWER BRAKES, ETC. THIS TOO ME IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD QUITE POSSIBLY GET ME (OR MY TEENS WHO DRIVE IT) REAR ENDED OR CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL, CRASH AND BE KILLED. I HAVE CONFIRMED (FROM HONDA) THAT MY ELECTRICAL IGNITION SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND IT IS SHUTTING OFF BY ITSELF DUE TO A DEFECTIVE SWITCH, CAUSE; HONDA) THERE IS TOO MUCH POWER GOING THROUGH THE SWITCH. (I CAN ACTUALLY REMOVE MY KEY WHILE I'M DRIVING.) THERE IS A RECALL BY HONDA ON THIS SWITCH WHICH WAS POSTED IN MAY 2002 FOR ALL HONDA CIVICS FROM 1997 TO 2001. ALL CIVICS WERE BUILT IN CANADA AT THAT TIME.1,000,000 WERE RECALLED. HOWEVER, MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ( MY VIN # NOT IN THE RECALL, IN CANADA IT WAS ALL CARS RECALLED). HONDA REPS TELL ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHY MY CAR IS NOT IN THE RECALL. I HAVE THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS IN THE RECALL. IN CANADA, THEY RECALLED AND REPAIRED EVERY SINGLE CAR IN THAT COUNTRY. WHY NOT MY CAR? BECAUSE IT WAS SENT INTO THE USA? I'M FILING A MAJOR SAFETY COMPLAINT AGAINST HONDA USA AND I WANT MY CAR FIXED BY THEM. THE COST IS $ 153.00 FOR THE SWITCH AND 195.00 FOR LABOR. I'M READY TO ELEVATE THIS COMPLAINT IF NECESSARY, NEWS ORGANIZATIONS, ETC IF YOU DIRECT ME TO DO THIS. MY FAMILY AND I WERE RECENTLY STRANDED WITH OUR 1999 HONDA CIVIC GX. IT IS A NATURAL GAS VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT START. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER WE WERE REALLY WORRIED BECAUSE OF THE DIAGNOSIS. THEY SAID IT WAS A SHORT IN THE EMERGENCY SHUT OFF VALVE INSIDE THE NATURAL GAS TANK. A SHORT IS CAUSED BY ELECTRICITY TRAVELING THROUGH A ROUTE THAT IS NOT DESIGNED BY THE PART AND USUALLY RESULTS IN A SPARK. MY FAMILY FEELS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A CATASTROPHE AT THE NATURAL GAS STATION. IT HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER WE FILLED UP. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE PART IS NON-SERVICEABLE AND THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. I ALSO FOUND THAT IT IS AN IRREPLACEABLE PART AND THAT THE ENTIRE TANK HAS TO BE CHANGED WHICH IS QUITE EXPENSIVE. WE ALREADY CONTACTED HONDA DIRECTLY WITHOUT ANY RESOLVE. MY FAMILY AND I WISH TO DO ALL THAT WE CAN TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE OR DEATH TO ANY OTHER PARTIES OWNING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AS IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY HIMSELF BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 170,000.
TWO MONTHS AGO MY SON'S 1999 HONDA CIVIC EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE. THE TIRE SHOP SAID THE VALVE STEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED THE STEM AT A COST OF $26. ON APRIL 16, 2009, MY SON EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE ON A DIFFERENT TIRE, LEFT FRONT TIRE, WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. HE SAID THE CAR SUDDENLY PULLED STRONGLY TO THE LEFT AND HE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I REMEMBERED SEEING INFORMATION ON A VALVE STEM RECALL LAST SUMMER AND GAVE MY SON INFORMATION ABOUT THE DILL VALVE STEM RECALL. THE VALVE STEMS WERE THE ONES MANUFACTURED AND RECALLED BY DILL, REF. ODI DEFECT INVESTIGATION EA08022. THE TIRE SHOP DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THE RECALL AND THE HONDA DEALER THAT INSTALLED THE TIRES 2 YEARS AGO ALSO PLEADED IGNORANCE. AFTER FURTHER PERSISTENCE, MY SON WAS ABLE TO GET THE HONDA DEALER TO REPLACE ALL OF THE DEFECTIVE VALVE STEMS AND REPLACE THE TIRE THAT WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. HE IS STILL OUT $26 DUE TO THE FIRST VALVE STEM FAILURE WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE TIRE SHOP IF THE SPIRIT AND INTENT OF THE DILL VALVE STEM VOLUNTARY RECALL WAS BEING FOLLOWED. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE VOLUNTARY RECALL BY DILL IS INADEQUATE AND NOT ACCOMPLISHING ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. ODI DEFECT INVESTIGATION EA08022 WAS PREMATURELY CLOSED. THE RECALL SHOULD BE MANDATED BY NHTSA AND BACKED UP BY THE LAW! THE TIRE COMPANIES ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE SPIRIT AND INTENT OF THE DILL VOLUNTARY RECALL. THIS IS RESULTING IN UNNECESSARY EXPENSES TO THE PUBLIC AND A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I FEEL IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY NOT KNOWING IF ONCOMING TRAFFIC WILL SUDDENLY SWERVE INTO ME BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE VALVE STEM. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF DEFECTIVE VALVE STEMS IN SERVICE. SOMETHING MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING AND AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES IT WOULD RE-START. THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN APRIL 2009. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE COIL SPRING. THE ESTIMATED COST FOR REPAIR WAS $253.97. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL #02V120000, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, IGNITION SWITCH AND DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HER WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,003.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT MONTH DURING AN OIL CHANGE I HAD MY MECHANIC LOOK AT IT. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND INSPECTED MY EXHAUST AND INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THIS MODEL THAT CAUSES THE OXYGEN SENSOR TO BE TRIGGERED. SINCE THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS PART OF THE SAME ASSEMBLY AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, THE COMPONENT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SIMILAR HONDA VEHICLES OF SIMILAR YEARS AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT HONDA TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER MANY CALLS WITH HONDA, THEY REFUSED STATING THAT MY YEAR AND MODEL WAS EXCLUDED, DESPITE HAVING IDENTICAL ISSUES. *TR

MY 1999 HONDA CIVIC CAUGHT ON FIRE NOVEMBER 11 IT WAS 11:45 PM MY CAR WAS PARKED WITHIN 6 FEET OF MY HOUSE MY DOG ALERTED ME BY BARKING AND GOING CRAZY I WAS ASLEEP SO GOT UP AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM, AND NOTICED A BRIGHT FLICKERING LIGHT WENT OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS AND SAW MY CAR ON FIRE: DRIVERS SIDE. IT LOOKED TO ME THE FIRE WAS RIGHT ABOVE THE TIRE, AND ALSO THE FIRE DEPT. CONFIRMED THAT DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THE TIRE, OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM I OWNED THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS I HAD NO INSURANCE SO WAS OUT $4,000. *TR

TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM TIRE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY. TIRE LOOKS LIKE A RETREAD EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T PURCHASED AS ONE. *TR
VALVE STEM FAILURE ON THREE TIRES RESULTING IN FLAT TIRES THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 55-60 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES FAILED TO DEPLOY. TWO PASSENGERS WERE INJURED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 205,000.

I WAS STOPPED BEHIND A CAR WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR

IN MAY OF 2007, IT BEGAN TO FAIL MORE REGULARLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS SAFETY RECALL # 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,200. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED DOCUMENTATION FROM THE ALL DATA WEBSITE PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT ON HER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VSTEERING BECAME DIFFICULT, THE BRAKES FAILED, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERYDAY. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS THE SOURCE OF THE FAILURE,. THEREFORE , THE CONTACT ORDERED AN IGNITION SWITCH TO BE REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE. SHE HAS RETURNED SEVERAL TIMES FOR SEVERAL ISSUES INCLUDING THE IGNITION SWITCH AND NOW THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN PURCHASED.
KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION RECALL ID 02V120000 DATED 13 MAY 2002 SEEMS TO APPLY BUT DEALER REFUSES TO FIX SAYING THE VIN DISQUALIFIES. *JB
THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH A DEFECTIVE CVT TYPE TRANSMISSION. COMPLAINED TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IF I PAID $504 IN LABOR COSTS. ONE YEAR LATER THE TRANSMISSION DIED AGAIN, I NOW BELIEVE THEY ONLY FLUSHED OUT THE OLD TRANSMISSION I DOUBT THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. I COMPLAINED AGAIN AND HAD IT REPLACED. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT COST $80 JUST FOR THEM CHECK THE COMPUTER WHICH HAS BEEN DONE TWICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR'S COMPUTER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING SERIOUSLY WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. HAD THE COMPUTER REPLACED AFTER SPLITTING THE COST WITH AMERICAN HONDA SO IT COST ME $396. TWO WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON, I WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND HAD THE COMPUTER CODES READ FOR FREE THEY SAID IT WAS A MALFUNCTIONING O2 SENSOR, NOW THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ANOTHER $260 EACH SENSOR PLUS LABOR TO CHANGE BOTH SENSORS. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 HONDA CIVIC LX 4 DOOR VEHICLE ON A RETURN TRIP FROM BIRMINGHAM, AL TO ATLANTA, GA AND ABOUT 45 MINUTES INTO MY RETURN TRIP THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE OF MY VEHICLE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THAT ALTHOUGH THE 1/3 OF THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE IT DID NOT BLOW OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO GET TO AN EXIT SAFELY. I THEN PROCEEDED TO A WALMART TIRE REPLACEMENT CENTER WHERE I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN IF THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME HE HAD SEEN THIS ISSUE WITHIN THE PAST 2 MONTHS AND THAT THE OTHER TIRE THAT WAS BROUGHT IN FOR REPLACEMENT HAD ONLY BEEN ON THE CAR FOR A FEW WEEKS (MY TIRE WAS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD). I CONTACTED FIRESTONE TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD ONLY TAKE ACTION IF I COULD MAIL THEM THE TIRE. I PROVIDED FIRESTONE THE CONTACT NUMBER FOR THE TIRE SHOP WHERE THEY COULD OBTAIN THE TIRE IF NEEDED FOR ANALYSIS (FIRESTONE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN OBTAINING THE TIRE). THE TIRE THAT WAS INVOLVED WAS AN FR 680.
ON 4/12/06 AT 153,000 MILES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MY HUSBAND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE O2 SENSOR HAD GONE OUT. MY HUSBAND PAID $300+ TO HAVE THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED. UPON FURTHER REVIEW, THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE MANIFOLD AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1000 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THEY SEE WILL HONDAS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT WHEN HE CALLED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO GET A PRICE ON THE PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE FINISHED HIS SENTENCE. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE HAD OTHER CUSTOMERS BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY HONDA AS $1000 IS A LOT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT HONDA SHOULD FIX. *NM

THE MECHANIC ALSO SAID TO ME THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE SEEN IN HONDA VEHICLES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AS THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AT DEALERSHIPS AS WELL AS OTHER MECHANIC SHOPS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE CORRECTED AT HONDA'S EXPENSE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO START AND STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 02V120000, REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

1999 HONDA CIVIC ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD HIS VEHICLE YEAR HAD AN IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, HE WAS THEN TOLD HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE PLUGS. AFTER HAVING THE PLUGS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE STALLED 2 MORE TIMES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS THE PROBLEM. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED WITH THE EXACT SAME KIND AS THE ONE THAT WAS BEING RECALLED. *JB

THE MANIFOLD'S CRACKWAS NEAR THE OXYGEN SENSOR. THE CONTACT CALLED HONDA CORPORATION ,WHO STATED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THEY WOULD NOT SPEAK WITH HER. SHE SHOULD CALL AMERICA HONDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEMS THAT SHE WAS HAVING WAS VIN SPECIFIC AND THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE STARTED IN 2005, AND SHE REPLACED THE CRACKED MANIFOLD. NOW, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MALFUNCTIONED. *AK
1. MY SON DROVE THE 99 HONDA CIVIC EX ON A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND MERGED INTO THE MAIN STREET. MY SON PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION BUT IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CROSSED THE INTERSECTION AND HIT THE TREE ACROSS THE STREET. 2. EVEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, CAR ACCELERATED IT SELF AND COULD NOT STOP THE CAR ON TIME TO AVOID HITTING THE TREE. LUCKILY, THERE WERE NO DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURIES. 3. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND MADE A RIGHT TURN AT A STOP LIGHT AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR STOPPED. I NEARLY GOT HIT, AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE STATION ACROSS THE STREET FROM WHERE IT DIED. THEY REPLACED THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND COIL IN IT. THIS ALL COST ME $710. THEN 4 DAYS AGO I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A LOCAL ROAD BY HOME AND THE CAR JUST QUIT ON ME AGAIN. I HAVE SOMEONE LOOKING AT IT AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE TPS BUT THAT'S NOT IT. 99 HONDA PRELUDE WAS IN VOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT GOING HEAD ON INTO A TREE AT APPROXIMATELY 20 TO25 MPH. DRIVER WAS NOT WEARING SEAT BELT. DRIVER WAS THROWN INTO WINDSHIELD . AIR BAG FAILED TO ACTIVATE.
DRIVERS POWER SEAT RECLINES ON IT'S OWN EVERY TIME I TURN OFF THE CAR. IT IS NOT BECAUSE I HIT IT WITH MY LEG. IT DOES NOT DO IT UNTIL I TURN OFF THE CAR, EXIT THE CAR, AND CLOSE THE DOOR. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD V-6 COUPE BEGAN SLIPPING AND SHIFTING ROUGHLY AT APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. AAMCO DIAGNOSED A LUBRICATION PROBLEM CAUSING EXCESSIVE GEAR WEAR, AND RECOMMENDED REBUILDING THE TRANNY. HONDA DEALERSHIP CONCURRED WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS, AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. THE 2001-2003 V-6 ACCORDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I BELIEVE A TRANSMISSION DESIGN FAILURE EXISTED AS FAR BACK AS THE 1998 ACCORD MODELS. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED OVER 200 COMPLAINTS REGARDING 1999 ACCORD V-6 TRANSMISSION FAILURES. ON 1 FEB 05, I TOOK MY 99 HONDA ACCORD, [XXX], TO A HONDA DEALER HERE IN FORT WALTON BEACH FLORIDA DUE TO SLUGGISH ACCELERATION. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON 1/14/05, SOUTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY I-75, MY HOOD LATCH OPENED. MY HOOD STARTED TO LIFT; BEFORE I COULD SAFELY PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY THE HOOD LATCH SAFETY FAILED. THE HOOD INSTANTLY LIFTED AND SLAMMED AGAINST MY WINDSHIELD - COMPLETELY OBSCURING MY VISION. LUCKILY NO VEHICLE WAS IN THE LANE TO MY IMMEDIATE RIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE ROAD SHOULDER. THE IMPACT OF THE HOOD AGAINST THE FRAME OF THE WINDSHIELD WARPED THE HOOD HINGES, CRUMPLED PORTIONS OF THE HOOD AND BROKE MOLDING AROUND THE WINDSHIELD. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PARTIALLY CLOSE THE HOOD AND SECURE IT WITH BUNGEE CORDS. I WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME, DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED, WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I CURRENTLY HAVE AN INSURANCE CLAIM BEING PROCESSED AND WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE COLLISION SHOP ON 1/17/05 FOR INSPECTION. I AM SHOCKED THAT THE SAFETY LATCH ON THE HOOD COULD FAIL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IF THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WOULD'VE BEEN MORE DENSE, I'M SURE THIS PROBLEM WOULD'VE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.
