WHILE MAKING A TURN AT < 5 MPH IN MY HONDA 2003 4DR-SEDAN, TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND, FOLLOWED BY THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMING FREE. TURNING THE STEERING HAD NO AFFECT ON THE WHEELS. THE DEALERSHIP DID THEIR 1ST INSPECTION AFTER 7 HOURS OF THE VEHICLE BEING TO TOWED TO THEIR FACILITY, FOUND IT TO BE A FIRST-OF-ITS KIND FAILURE. THEY CONFIRMED THAT A BOLT HAD BROKEN IN HALF IN THE POWER STEERING COLUMN PINION BRACKET. *JB
AFTER REFUELING AND PULLING AWAY FROM A GAS STATION, BRAKES WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR AND CAR FELT LIKE IT WOULD NOT STOP. REPEATED PUMPING OF BRAKES RESTORED SOME BRAKING POWER. HOWEVER, AFTER STOPPING, BRAKES WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR AGAIN. DEALER COULD NOT DETECT PROBLEM ON FIRST TEST DRIVE; HOWEVER BRAKES FAILED ON SECOND TEST DRIVE. INVOICE FOR REPAIR SAYS "BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKING (INTO BRAKE BOOSTER). REPLACED BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND FLUSHED BRAKE FLUID". OLD MASTER CYLINDER AVAILABLE. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT CALLED IN FOR HIS CLIENT, STATES THAT THE CLIENT WAS DRIVING HER 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID ON 10/12/06. THE DRIVER WAS SITTING AT A STOP SIGN AND A SEMI TRUCK HIT THE CLIENT'S VEHICLE. THE ATTORNEY STATES THAT THE TRUCK HIT THE CLIENT'S VEHICLE AT 40-50 MPH. THE IMPACT CAUSE DTHE CLIENT TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED A 5 VEHICLE CRASH. THE ATTORNEY WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, AND THE CLIENT SUSTAINED FACIAL INJURIES. THE DRIVER DID HAVE ON THE SEAT BELT AND IT DID RESTRAIN HER. THE DRIVER HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF VEHICLE BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE POLICE REPORT AND PHOTOS OF THE CRASH WERE AVAILABLE. *AK
2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID TRANSMISSION PROBLEM: PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO GO TO NEUTRAL THEN SLAM INTO GEAR. ALSO HAS A STRONG VIBRATION INTERMITTENTLY, YET HAPPENING NOW ALMOST DAILY. SO FAR, HONDA DEALERSHIP IS FOLLOWING A SERVICE BULLETIN TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, WITH NO LUCK AND OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES BUILDING WHILE THEY EXPERIMENT. FOUND OVER 128 SIMILAR PROBLEMS POSTED ONLINE. *TR
DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT STOPPED WORKING ON DIM ONLY. CHANGED BULB, BUT THIS BULB ALSO DID NOT WORK ON DIM. VERIFIED THE BULB WAS GOOD BY TRYING IT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE NEXT DAY, THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT JUST STARTED WORKING AGAIN. 3 WEEKS LATER IT WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME I TRACED THE WIRING BACK INSIDE THE CAR TO THE "INSIDE" FUSE BOX. THE WIRING THAT GOES OUT TO THAT HEADLIGHT COMES FROM A PLUG THAT PLUGS INTO THIS FUSE BOX. AFTER "WIGGLING" THIS PLUG, THE HEADLIGHT CAME BACK ON. HOWEVER I CAN "WIGGLE" IT AND MAKE IT GO OFF ALSO. JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. *JB
THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, ONGOING FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. THE FAILURE IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK, THERE ARE NO BRAKE LIGHTS, THERE IS NO BRAKE REGENERATION IN THE HYBRID SYSTEM, AND THE AUTO STOP FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK. OVER THE LAST 24 DAYS THERE THE CAR HAS BEEN STARTED 75 TIMES WITH 24 TIMES FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO WORK. I'VE KEPT A LOG SINCE THE LAST DEALER VISIT. THE LAST TIME IN SHOP THEY TESTED/REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH AND BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH (SECOND BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IN 2 YEARS). THE DEALER " CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, EVEN WHEN IT IS ACTING UP WHEN I TAKE IT IN. THERE SEEMS TO BE A CORRELATION BETWEEN FAILURE AND LOWER TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY/RAIN. THE PROBLEM IS DRIVING WITHOUT STOP LIGHTS AND NEVER KNOWING WHILE DRIVING IF EVERYTHING IS WORKING. AT SOME POINT I'M GOING TO BE REAR END, HOPEFULLY THE KIDS WILL NOT BE IN THE CAR. *NM
A/C CONDENSER LEAK DUE TO DESIGN FLAW THAT ALLOWS ROAD DEBRIS TO HIT CONDENSER DIRECTLY AND CAUSE DAMAGE, LEAK, AND FAILURE FOR COLD A/C FLOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CIVIC. THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT DOES NOT BLOW COLD AIR. IN MAY 2006, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CONDENSER. IN MAY 2007, THE CONDENSER FAILED AGAIN. THE DEALER WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE AIR CONDITIONER STILL DOES NOT OPERATE NORMALLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 65000 AND THE ORIGINAL FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45000. UPDATED 01/11/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS LACK OF PROTECTION OFFERED BEHIND THE VENTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT BUMPER TO PROTECT THE AC CONDENSER FROM BEING DAMAGED BY ROAD DEBRIS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THERE WAS A WOBBLING NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR INSPECTIONS AND REPAIRS. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS EACH TIME, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY TRAVELING LESS THAN 3 MPH. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER THE CONCRETE BARRIER AND HIT A WALL. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN AT THE SCENE. ALTHOUGH THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT HAS NOT YET BEEN INSPECTED.
WHEN DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL IT DISENGAGED ON THE PANEL BUT KEPT GOING. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO DISENGAGE MET WITH FAILURE. THE SPEED ACCELERATED UP TO 70+ MPH. SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, IT RED LINED OUT TO 7,000 RPM, SHUT IT DOWN. RESTARTED, CRUISE CONTROL LOCKED IN. SHUT DOWN, RESTARTED AND IT FINALLY DISENGAGED. HAVE NOT USED SINCE THAT DATE. *JB

I NOTICED MY 2003 HONDA CIVIC EX FP WITH 9,388 MILES ON IT LEANING TOWARDS THE FRONT LEFT. MEASURED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TIRES AND WHEEL WELL RIM AND FOUND THERE WAS A 1 TO 1/12 INCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT RIM AND THE REMAINING 3 TIRE RIMS. BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A "COIL SPRING PROBLEM" THE PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED AND IT IS UNKNOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE 2003 HONDA CIVIC HIBRID ( AT 50 MPH AND MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. IT REGAINED POWER BY ACCELERATING, BUT THE VEHICLE JERKED BACK AND FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN SLOWLY UNTIL IT GOT UP TO PROPER SPEED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE EGR VALVE, THE STARTER GEAR AND THE FLYWHEEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *AK
I OWN A HONDA CIVIC LX 2003. I AM THE FIRST OWNER OF THE CAR. ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR HAS BEEN SHOWING THE SRS INDICATOR ON ALL THE TIME WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. WHICH MEANS AIR BAGS WON'T DEPLOY IN EVENT OF CRASH. CALLED HONDA DEALER FROM WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $$$ TO CHECK/FIX. THIS IS NOT FAIR. ALL THE LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENTS / DEVICES HAVE LIFE TIME WARRANTY ON IT. PLEASE TAKE SOME ACTION AGAINST MANUFACTURER (HONDA) TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND HAVE THEM FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGE. *JB
ON 3 OCCASIONS OVER PAST 3 YEARS WE HAVE HAD KEY/ LOCK/ IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS. RESULT: 1. INABILITY TO START ENGINE; 2. UNABLE TO UNLOCK DRIVER SIDE DOOR; 3. UNABLE TO OPEN TRUNK. LATEST REPAIR ON 3-28-06 CONSISTED OF REPLACING TRUNK LOCK TUMBLER AND DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK TUMBLER. REPAIR ADVISOR VERBALLY STATED TRUNK LOCK TUMBLERS WERE BADLY WORN; DOOR LOCK TUMBLERS NEEDED LUBRICATION. WE CONSIDER CONSEQUENCES OF FAILURE COULD BE SERIOUS GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES AT TIME OF FAILURE. *JB
DEFECTIVE FRONT SEAT TRACKS. FRONT SEATS ROCK BACK AND FORTH ON TRACK WHEN LATCHED IN PLACE. CONCERN IS THAT SEAT MIGHT BREAK LOOSE IN A CRASH. MY CAR IS A 2003 CIVIC LE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT SOME 2006 CARS (ABOUT 25% OF A RANDOM SAMPLE HE TOOK ON LOT) HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. MY 2003 CIVIC HYBRID DOES NOT HAVE THE ISSUE. AMOUNT OF SEAT ROCKING IS ABOUT 1/4 TO 1/2 INCH VERTICAL MOTION MEASURED AT THE FRONT EDGE OF THE SEAT BOTTOM AS THE SEAT IS ROCKED BY PUSHING/PULLING ON THE SEAT BACK WHEN THE SEAT IS NOT OCCUPIED. DRIVER'S SEAT IS WORST, BUT PASSENGER SEAT EXHIBITS ABOUT 50% OF THE MOTION. THE CAR CURRENTLY AS ABOUT 30K MILES, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN NOTICEABLE FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 10K MILES. *NM
WHEN STARTING MY CAR, I COULD NOT GET THE AUTO SHIFT SELECTOR TO GO INTO DRIVE. I HAD TO USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE SHIFT LOCK... IT IS IN THE HONDA SHOP AT THIS TIME. *JB
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT, THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE AGAIN. LATER, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MPH ON A WET ROAD. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP BEFORE STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR END. THE SEAT BELTS WERE IN USE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSTICS WERE PERFORMED TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CODES SHOWED FAULTY SENSORS IN THE AIR BAGS. THE DEALER DETERMINED FURTHER TESTING WOULD BE REQUIRED BEFORE A FINAL DECISION COULD BE MADE ON THE AIR BAG FAILURE. *JB UPDATE 2/24/2006 - *NM
MY 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WORKED FINE UNTIL ~50000 MILES (~3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP.) AT THAT TIME, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO CAUSE THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS FROM 5-15 MPH. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE PROBLEM WAS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT I NO LONGER FELT SAFE DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK IN TRAFFIC WHOSE SPEED WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD REPEATEDLY INSTEAD OF MAINTAIN A SMOOTH SPEED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE TO GET THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT ALTHOUGH THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM - THEY CLAIMED THE CAR HAD NO FIXABLE PROBLEMS. READING FROM OTHER CIVIC HYBRID OWNERS HAS SHOWN THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AND EXPENSIVE TO FIX. *NM
SRS (AIR BAG) LIGHT CAME ONE. HONDA SERVICE DEPT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM AND RESET LIGHT. LIGHT CAME BACK ON 1/2 HOUR AFTER LEAVING SHOP. SERVICE DEPT SAID CONTROL UNIT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. MY CAR AND MANY OTHER'S HAVE A SERIOUS STEERING RACK DEFECT THAT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SERIOUS CRASH OR MISHAP. IT IS A 2003 HONDA CIVIC SI. MY 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID FRONT LEFT SUSPENSION MOUNT IS MAKING CREAKING NOISES, THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDS REPLACING. *NM
I RAN INTO THE BACK OF A HONDA CIVIC AT ABOUT 20 MPH. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT COME OUT. I HAD A BIT OF CHEST PAIN AFTER THE CRASH. I THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD CHECK AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR FREE. IF I WAS ON A HIGHWAY GOING 70 MPH THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. *NM
WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND A CAR HIT ME FROM BEHIND AT 45 MPH AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS CAUSE ME TO HAVE SEVERE NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN. *NM
I WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH ON SURFACE STREETS AND, TOO LATE, NOTICED THAT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED. I REAR-ENDED THEM, AND THEN WAS PROMPTLY HIT ON THE LEFT REAR OF MY VEHICLE BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. THE ADP REPRESENTATIVE WHO EXAMINED MY CAR SAID THAT ALL THREE SENSORS ON MY CAR HAD BEEN IMPACTED, BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID DEPLOY, BUT MINE DID NOT. THOUGH I WAS STILL UNINJURED, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE CASE IF I HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY. SINCE MY CAR WAS TOTALED, NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CORRECT THE AIRBAG PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS A 2003 HONDA CIVIC LX, 4-DOOR, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WITH NO SIDE-AIRBAGS.
1- 2003 HONDA CIVIC 4 DOOR,17000 MILES, UNEXPLAINED SPINNING, CRASH, AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE BURNED CAR TO A CRISP. DRIVER PULLED FROM CAR SUFFERING SHOCK AND INHALATION OF FUMES. *NM
THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS REQUIRED RE-GROUNDING AFTER WARPING HAD OCCURRED WHICH CAUSED A PULSATING SENSATION WHEN BRAKING. THE ROTORS WERE RE-GROUND AT 34K, BUT THE PULSATING BEHAVIOR BEGAN SOMEWHERE AROUND AN ESTIMATED 28K. THE TIRES HAD ONLY BEEN ROTATED TWICE AND BOTH TIMES WERE SECURED USING FACTORY TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS, SO INCORRECT LUG NUT SETTINGS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. NO EVIDENCE OF GLAZING FROM RIDING THE BRAKES WAS PRESENT, NOR HAS THE CAR EVER BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS BELIEVED TO BE DRIVEN WITHIN NORMAL TOLERANCES SINCE WE PURCHASED NEW IN 6/03 AND HAS BEEN USED MORE FOR COMMUTING MODE RATHER THAN A LOT OF STOP AND GO USEAGE. THE FACTORY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 10% REMAINING (WEAR TAB JUST STARTED WARNING 10 MILES EARLIER), WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE NEARLY 70% ORIGINAL MATERIAL REMAINING. I HAVE INSTALLED RAYBESTOS CERAMIC PADS ON THE REAR, BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW AND NOT DRIVEN MIS-USE/ABUSE AND THAT I'LL LIKELY HAVE TO REPAY FOR THIS REPEATEDLY IF I'M TYPICAL OF OTHERS WHO'VE COMPLAINED OF WARPED ROTORS ON THE 03 ACCORD EX - 6 CYL.
WHILE DRIVING, 2003 HONDA CIVIC BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND VEHICLE REV TO 6K RPM. *** NAR RECEIVED 10-18-05*** *TS WHEN THE CONSUMER PLACED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL THAT WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE REVVED. *JB
I WISH TO MAKE NOTICE TO NHTSA THAT THE ISSUE IN BRAKING FOR PRIUS VEHICLES WOULD SEEM TO ME TO BE RELATED, IN GENERAL, TO HYBRIDS, BUILT IN JAPAN, AND NOT JUST TOYOTA. I HAVE AN '03 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, AND IT HAS ISSUES. IT HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BACK IN '05 AND WHAT WAS THE ISSUE? BRAKING! THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL UNDER HEAVY BRAKING (THOUGH ALL THESE VEHICLES HAVE 4 WHL ABS) IN AN "ANIMAL-AVOIDANCE" ATTEMPT. I ENDED UP CAREENING SIDE-WISE SLIDING UNTIL COLLIDING WITH A UTILITY POLE, AT THE PASSGR SIDE "A" PILLAR. RACCOON DIDN'T SURVIVE. I HAD NOTICED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THE ABS, UPON ENCOUNTERING BUMPS OR JOLTS OF ANY SIGNIFICANT DEGREE, WILL "CUT-OUT" MOMENTARILY, AND FURTHER, THE "ENGINE-BRAKING' ASSOCIATED WITH THE HYBRID MOTOR-GENERATOR ALSO CUTS OUT AND DOES NOT RETURN (UNTIL AFTER THE STOP HAS BEEN CONCLUDED USING ONLY THE AVAILABLE BRAKING METHODS LEFT)(NO ABS "CHATTER" IS TO BE OBSERVED IN THESE SCENARIOS). THE PHENOMENON IS DEFINITELY REPRODUCIBLE; I HAVE OFTEN FOUND THAT SUCH BUMPS ARE VIRTUALLY UNAVOIDABLE ON CERTAIN PLACES I COMMONLY DRIVE NEAR MY HOME. IT IS SUCH AN ISSUE THAT I HAVE LEARNED TO TRY TO COMPENSATE FOR THAT WHEN DRIVING OVER THESE BUMPY PLACES, BUT ONE CAN'T COMPENSATE WHEN ENCOUNTERING SAME IN A NEW, UNFAMILIAR AREA/SITUATION. PLEASE DO LOOK INTO THE CONCEPT THAT IT COULD BE MORE OF A JAPANESE MADE ABS SYSTEM-FAULT , (POSSIBLY INCLUDING ENGINE-REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM) RATHER THAN A TOYOTA-ONLY THING. I WOULD REQUEST THAT MY NOTE BE ACKNOWLEDGED, MYSELF BE CONTACTED SO AS TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFO NEEDED, AND MY CONTACT INFO BE RETAINED SO AS TO BE CONTACTED REGARDING SUBSEQUENT RESOLUTIONS, IE RECALLS/LEGAL CASES/SETTLEMENTS. MY 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS A HISTORY OF THE TRANSMISSION/CAR SHUDDERING AND SLIPPING DURING ACCELERATION. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING REGULARLY SINCE JULY 26, 2005 AT 40,440 MILES. ON ONE OCCASION AFTER HAVING THE CLUTCH REPLACED, TRANSMISSION FLUID SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND MANIFOLD WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE FATALITY OR SERIOUS INJURY OF MY SON DRIVING THE CAR HAD IT IGNITED. THE SPOKESMAN AT THE HONDA DEALER IN PORTLAND OREGON SAID MY SON WAS VERY LUCKY NOT TO BE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. SINCE THIS OCCURRENCE, THE SHUDDERING ISSUE HAS CONTINUED REQUIRING REGULAR TRIPS TO THE HONDA DEALER. EACH HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I HAVE COMPLAINED TO HAVE SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE HONDA OF AMERICA HAS NOT AUTHORIZED A FIX TO THE DEFECT OTHER THEN TO BURNISH THE START CLUTH AND CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS HAS ONLY BEEN A BAND AID FIX WHICH HASN'T WORKED FOR SOME TIME NOW, BUT ORIGINALLY USED TO WORK FOR ABOUT 2-3 THOUSAND MILES AT WHICH POINT THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND HONDA IS USING A BAND AID APPROACH TO MASK THIS SERIOUS DEFECT UNTIL THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, AT WHICH POINT, THEY QUICKLY SAY THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE (APPROX $3,400 TO $4,000 DOLLARS). HONDA OF AMERICA CLAIMS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM IN THEIR NEW TRANSMISSIONS BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WILLING TO USE THIS FIX ON EXISTING CARS LIKE MINE UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. I HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN TOLD THIS BY HONDA REPRESENTATIVES. ALL THIS IS DESPITE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM IN JAPAN, INDIA, AND INDONESIA. PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHY HONDA OF AMERICA HAS NOT BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS SERIOUS DEFECT IN THEIR HONDA CIVIC HYBRID 2003 CVT TRANSMISSIONS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE VIBRATES AND MAKES NOISES. THE VEHICLE SLOWS AND THEN SURGES FORWARD INTERMITTENTLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
THERE WERE NO SIGNIFICANT EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. THE TIRE SEEMED TO SPONTANEOUSLY SPLIT WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDE WALL WHICH RESULTED IN AN IMMEDIATE BLOW OUT. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS GOING AT A SLOW SPEED AT THE TIME SO NO CRASH OCCURRED. WE HAVE SINCE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS TIRE IS UNSAFE TO USE AT WARMER TEMPERATURES EVEN THOUGH IT IS Q99 RATED. THE TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK 215/70QR16 THAT IS ON A 2003 HONDA ELEMENT. THE TIRE WAS PROPERLY INFLATED AND WAS JUST PUT ON NOVEMBER OF 2004.

AS I DRIVE AGGRESIVELY OFTEN, I SIT WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. DURING THE ACCIDENT THE SEAT JAMMED IN A COMPLETELY RECLINED POSITION. AFTER RETRIEVING MY BELONGINGS FROM THE VEHICLE, THE SEAT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE ADJUSTED TO MY USUAL 90 DEGREE ANGLE POSITION. (3) NOTHING DONE, CAR WAS TOTALLED.

2003 CIVIC, HIGHWAY MILES OF 49,800. CAR OVERHEATED VERY QUICKLY ON THE HIGHWAY, PULLED OVER, GOT HOTTER AND HOTTER WITH STEAM EVERYWHERE. DEALERSHIP TOWED IT TO THEIR GARAGE AND GAVE US LOANER CAR. DEALERSHIP EXTENDED 36000/3YEAR WARRANTY TO 50000 BY THE WAY. TECHS SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A MESS. RADIATOR LITERALLY *MELTED INTO THE ENGINE*, THEY SAID. I READ ABOUT HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS ON SOME ONLINE HONDA OWNER GROUPS, SO I ASKED IF THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED, AND THEY SAID IT WAS DEFINITELY BLOWN, BUT CAN'T DETERMINE IF THAT HAPPENED FIRST OR THE RADIATOR FAILED. IT TOOK THEM FOUR DAYS TO DETERMINE THAT *MAYBE* A ROCK HIT THE RADIATOR ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING A SLOW LEAK. MY INSURANCE GUY LOOKED AT THE CAR AND WILL NOT PAY BECAUSE HONDA CANNOT PROVE ANY KIND OF HIGHWAY *ACCIDENT* HAPPENED. THEY CAN'T EVEN GET IT TO LEAK OR FIND A HOLE, BUT WITH PRESSURE THEY CAN SEE A *WET SPOT* ON THE RADIATOR. AND... THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE 50000 EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE I DID NOT GET EVERY OIL CHANGE AND RECOMMENDED SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD. WE BOUGHT A HONDA BECAUSE IT CAN TAKE THE HIGH HIGHWAY MILEAGE. WE EVEN JUST BOUGHT A HONDA VAN LAST MONTH BECAUSE OF HONDA'S LONGEVITY AND REPUTATION. THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE BLOWING AN ENGINE AT THIS AGE. THIS HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF DEFECT.*AK
