DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CRV. SHE STATES THAT THE MECHANIC IS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM WITH HER VEHICLE. BUT WHILE SHE IS DRIVING IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED CAR WILL SHUT OFF. SHE HAS SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA WEBSITE FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK
1998 HONDA CRV LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. *TS THE DRIVER'S SIDE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEWOUT WHEN IT CAME INTO CONTACT WITH AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND CAUSED THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE THE CONCRETE BARRIER. *NM
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR EMISSIONS TEST AND FAILED. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NEEDED. CONSUMER NOTIFIED MANUFACTURER TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS WERE ISSUED. NO RECALLS WERE AVAILABLE PERTAINING TO THIS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED 5 MINUTES LATER AFTER THE COLLISION HAPPENED AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. NO WARNING LIGHT APPEARED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. *AK
2 POWER DRIVEN DOOR LOCKS (PASSENGER & DRIVER SIDE) ON A 1998 HONDA CRV HAVE BOTH FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS THE INABILITY TO ENTER THE VEHICLE (DRIVER SIDE) OR EXIT THE VEHICLE (DRIVER AND PASSENGER). BOTH LOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITHIN 6 MONTHS (FEB - AUG '04). ADDITIONALLY, THE HATCH LOCK ALSO FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. SPEAKING WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND SINCE THE MILEAGE IS 125 - 130K MILES, THEY INDICATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS WELL AS THEY HAD NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLES. THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER HAD INDICATED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH LOCKS REQUIRING REPAIR.*AK
WE WERE NORMALLY DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN A STRANGE NOISE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. UPON INVESTIGATION YOU COULD OBSERVE THE MAIN PULLEY WOBBLING. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIANTELY BROUGHT TO A REPAIR FACILITY. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BOLT FROM THE MAIN PULLEY INTO THE CRANKSHAFT WAS DAMAGED. WHEN A WRENCH WAS PLACED ON THE BOLT IT BROKE OFF. IT WAS APPARENT THAT THIS BOLT WAS INSTALLED STRIPPED WHICH RESULTED IN THIS FAILURE. PICTURES OF THE BOLT ARE AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS, HONDA USA DID AGREE TO SPLIT THE COST TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHFT. MY SHARE WAS $1270.09. I REALIZE THAT THE WARRANTY WAS 36 MONTHS / 36000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE DID ACHIEVE THIS. BUT AT 46579 MILES AND 72 MONTHS A MAIN COMPONENT ON A PROPERLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE SHOULD NOT FAIL. PARTICULARLY WHEN IT IS APPARENT THE BOLT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED OR FAILED. *AK
THE FRONT ROTORS WARPED PREMATURELY. AS A RESULT, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES FROM A HIGH SPEED, THE FRONT END SHOOK VIOLENTLY, MAKING STEERING DIFFICULT. *AK *JB
I RECENTLY READ THE PRESS REGARDING FIRES STARTING UNDERNEATH HONDA CRVS. LAST YEAR, FOLLOWING AN OIL CHANGE, I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND HEARD PEOPLE SCREAMING AT ME FROM THEIR CARS-THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER MY CAR. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER AND, BY THEN, THE FIRE WAS OUT. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE BACK TO MY MECHANIC-THEY EXAMINED THE CAR, WHICH STILL SMELLED OF SMOKE, BUT THEY WERE STUMPED. THE GARAGE IS VERY REPUTABLE AND AAA RATED. I RECENTLY READ ANOTHER ARTICLE THAT INDICATED NHTSA REOPENED AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM. MY CAR IS A 1998-I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN THE 2003-2004 MODELS. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED WHENEVER MY OIL IS CHANGED. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RECTIFIED BY HONDA-QUICKLY.*AK
THE HATCH DOOR LATCH OF MY 98 HONDA CRV IS BROKEN. THIS HAS BEEN SLOWLY DETERIORATING FOR SOME TIME, AND IS NOW COMPLETELY DEFECTIVE. ONLY THE GLASS HATCH WINDOW IS HOLDING THE DOOR SHUT. THE VEHICLE/HATCH DOOR HAVE NOT WITHSTOOD ANY EXTREME OR UNUSUAL USE, NOR HAS THAT PART OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND REPAIR. *LA
THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE ROUGHLY. DEALER DISCOVERED A BURNT #3 VALVE IN THE ENGINE TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT HAD COME ON BEFORE THE LOST OF POWER AND ROUGH RUNNING OCCURRED. *SCC *JB
WHILE DRIVING MY 1998 HONDA CR-V I NOTICED POWER SURGES AND DEEMING OF LIGHTS. THE CAR ULTIMATELY SHUT DOWN. IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND I DROVE IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. HE LOOKED IT OVER HOOKED IT UP TO HIS COMPUTER AND GOT A READING THAT THE SOLENOID ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BAD. HE THOUGHT THIS WAS INCORRECT AND SUGGESTED MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE WAS WRONG. HE DROVE THE CAR FOR A WHILE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. HE SUGGESTED I DRIVE THE CAR AND LET HIM KNOW IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG. LATER THAT DAY AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK SOLDER DROPPED FROM UNDER THE DASH ONTO MY FOOT. TUESDAY MORNING I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SAME MECHANIC THAT LOOKED AT IT ON FRIDAY. HE WAS SHOCKED THAT SOMETHING UNDER THE DASH COULD GET THAT HOT AND NOT CATCH ON FIRE. HE LOOKED UNDER THE DASH AND DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT HAD GOT SO HOT THAT IT BEGAN TO MELT THE SOLDER. HE CALLED CALE YARBOROUGH HONDA IN FLORENCE TO GET A NEW IGNITION SWITCH. WE RECEIVED THE PART AND THE MECHANIC PUT IT IN AND THE CAR SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE. THE PART THAT STARTLES ME THE MOST IS THAT THE CAR BELONGS TO MY WIFE AND I JUST HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING IT WHEN THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT IF MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AND HOT SOLDER WOULD HAVE FALLEN ON HER FOOT AND BURNED HER IT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY CAUSED HER TO WRECK. SHE ALWAYS WEARS SLIP ON SHOES AND HER FOOT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PROTECTED LIKE MY FOOT WAS. EVEN WITH SHOES ON IT STARTLED ME ENOUGHT TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. IT IS DISTURBING TO ME WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE WERE DRIVING THE CAR. I CONTACTED HONDA AND TOLD THEM OF THE INCIDENT AND THEY SAID MY COMPLAINT WOULD GO TO A REVIEW BOARD AND IF IT WARRENTED LOOKING INTO THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. I AM WRITING YOU BECAUSE THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE FATAL IF THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. I WOULD HATE TO KNOW SOMEONE GOT KILLED BECAUSE SOLDER DROPPED ON SOMEONE'S FOOT AND CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *AK
1998 HOND CR-V NGINE TROUBLE. FLASHING WARNING LIGHT AT 101K MILES. BURNT #3 EXHAUST VALVE AND TIGHT VALVE CLEARANCES ON ALL EXHAUST VALVES. NOTICED THAT THERE ARE A FEW CR-V'S IN THE 1999 AND 2000 WITH THIS PROBLEM, ALL DUE TO POOR WORDING IN THE MAINTENANCE SECTION OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL. ALL THEY RECCOMMEND IS TO CHECK VALVES AT 105K MILES AND ADJUST THEM IF THE ENGINE IS NOISY. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THE BACK DOOR LATCH WAS BROKEN. THIS HAS BEEN SLOWLY DETERIORATING FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. CONSUMER CONSULTED MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $200.00 SINCE IT WAS NOT ON RECALL. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS A DEFECT. *AK *PH *JB
BOTH REAR DOOR POWER LOCKS FROZE UP MAKING THE DOORS UNABLE TO BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY OR WITH POWER EITHER FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE FRONT DOORS DAMAGED EXIT FROM THE VEHICLE WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE.
AFTER THE RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH 02 V 120 000 WAS COMPLETED THE DEFECT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. *JB
NAR 1/15/2002. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH. HOWEVER WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED SHE WAS TOLD THE ALARM WOULD HAVE TO BE DISCONNECTED AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RECONNECT IT AFTER THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH SINCE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT INSTALL THE ALARM. THE CONSUMER HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE BUSINESS WHO INSTALLED THE ALARM AND HAVE IT RECONNECTED IN WHICH THE COMPANY CHARGED THE CONSUMER $45.00. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSMENT FROM HONDA. *JB
THE DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER, THAT A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS NEEDED. *JB

WANTED TO CHARGE $36.00 TO RECONNECT THE ALARM SYSTEM AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE MADE. CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW DOES THE DEALER HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHARGE FOR A RECONNECTION FEE. *AK *YH
PRIOR TO RECALL(02V120000) THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING SPEED DROPPING PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER STATED THAT AFTER HE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE HE FELT THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH COULD POSSIBLY BE THE CAUSE OF THE SPEED DROPPING.*YH
THE CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR LABOR FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL BECAUSE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LOJACK ALARM SYSTEM MADE THE IGNITION REPLACEMENT MORE COMPLICATED, THE CONSUMER FEELS THIS CHARGE WAS INAPPROPRIATE AND IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. NLM

WHILE DRIVING AT 40/45MPH ON FREEWAY SUDDENLY SLAMMED ON BRAKES, AND BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND, VEHICLE SLIDEABOUT 100 FEET, REAR ENDING OTHER VEHICLE.CONTACTED DEALER.*AK
WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TRANSMISSION WOULD START TO SLIP, AND CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TROUBLE MOVING THE VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
I AM NOT THE OWNER OF THE CRV, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH ONE. I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE POOR AND HAZERDOUS DESIGN OF THE "CPILLAR MOUNTED REAR LIGHTS". BY MOST ACCOUNTS THE CRV IS A GREAT VEHICLE TO OWN. IT IS ANOTHER MATTER COMPLETELY IF YOU HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF FOLLOWING ONE IN TRAFFIC, AS I DID, IF YOU OWN A CAR. YOU SEE, THERE ARE NO REAR TAIL LIGHTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS VEHICLE AND NOT EVEN A CYCLOPS LIGHT IN THE CENTER OF IT. INSTEAD, THERE IS A LOVELY TIRE PROUDLY DISPLAYING THE HONDA LOGO. THEIR WEBSITES EVEN BOAST ABOUT THAT NICE WRAP-AROUND LOOK IN THE BACK, THEY JUST DON'T TELL THE CONSUMER THAT THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN WITH YOUR NAME ON IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE FAILED TO PUT IN LIGHTS ON THE BOTTOM SO LOWER RIDING VEHICLES CAN SEE THEM. IN A LOW CAR OR WITH A SUN VISOR DOWN, ONE CANNOT SEE ANY LIGHTS AT ALL WHERE ONE WOULD REASONABLY EXPECT THEM TO BE, INSTEAD THEY ARE AT THE TOP SIDES OF THE VEHICLE ON THE "OLDER" MODELS. THIS POOR, UNCONSCIONABLE, AND HAZERDOUS DESIGN IN THE NAME OF LOOKS MUST BE FIXED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING IN SNOWY WEATHER, CONSUMER HEARD LOUD NOISES AND THE ABS FAILED TO PERFORM PROPERLY WHEN APPLIED. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *AK. THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS WHILE THE ABS WAS ACTIVE, CONSUMER DISABLED THE ABS BY REMOVING THE PUMP AND THE BRAKING WAS NORMAL.*JB
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 60-65 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY INDICATION, EVERY THING WENT DEAD; DEALER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH WAS REPLACE. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.
WHENEVER GOING OVER A BUMP/ PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, OR SMALL CURB THERE IS CLUNKING NOISE. CONSUMER FEELS IT COMING FROM FRONT SUSPENSION. CONSUMER HAS YET TO CONTACT DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

ON DEC 18, 2000 ABOUT 5:00PM MY WIFE GEETA RASTOGI WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. SHE WAS WAITING AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ON MD HIGHWAY 28 IN ROCKVILLE TO TURN LEFT ON TO DARNESTOWNE RD. WHEN TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGED FOR HER TO MOVE AND TURN LEFT, SHE HEARD A BIG BLAST AND HER FRONT LEFT WHEEL JUMPED THE CURVE. SHE WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY DROVE TO A SAFE PLACE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND THAT HER LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD BLOWN A 2"X4" PIECE. A MONTGOMERY COUNTY POLICE WOMAN AND A CITIZEN HELPED GEETA TO REPLACE THE TIRE WITH FULL SIZE SPARE. WE BOUGHT A NEW TIRE OF SAME TYPE AND SIZE FROM A LOCAL OLSON TIRE STORE NEXT DAY. BOUGHT THIS HONDA IN 1999 NEW (1998 LEFTOVER MODEL)ONLY HAD 12,000 MILES ON IT NOTICED TIRES CRACKING BROUGHT IT TO FACTORY AUTHORIZED FIRESTONE STORE AND THEY WANT ME TO GIVE THEM SOME MONEY FOR NEW SET OF TIRES. THEY WANT TO REPLACE THEM WITH SAME BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE TIRES, WHICH I FEEL UNSURE ABOUT AS WHAT IF THEY ARE DEFECTIVE AGAIN AFTER 2YRS. AND CRACK AGAIN. I FEEL THEY SHOULD GIVE ME MONEY TO BUY ANOTHER BRAND OF TIRES. PLEASE HELP IN VIEW OF RECENT RECALL ON OTHER BRIDGESTONE TIRES. BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 684 #205/70R15
UPON CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH CRUISE CONTROL SPEED SET AT 60 MPH, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER'S SIDE OR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS. NOT SURE IF THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TOTALLED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER NFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A NOISE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. *AK *ML

IGNITION KEY BECOMES STUCK IN IGNITION AND WILL NOT COME OUT DESPITE REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION. *AK
CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, AND HER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
WHILE PARKED THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED FROM BEHIND BY A CAR GETTING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE PUSH WAS ENOUGH TO SEND THE TAIL PIPE FORWRD INTO THE FUEL TANK CAUSING A 1.5 INCH DEEP DENT IN THE FUEL TANK AND TOTALLY TRASHING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. HAD THIS BEEN A REAR ENDER ON A FREEWAY IT SEEMS THAT THIS PIPE CAN EASILY PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK CAUSING A FIREY DEATH AT VERY LEAST. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM TO BE AS SERIOUS AS THE FORD PINTO FUEL TANK PROBLEM OF YEARS PAST!
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES DEPLOYMENT OF BOTH AIR BAGS WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. NO POTHOLE OR ANYTHING WAS HIT OR ROLLED OVER TO CAUSE THIS CONDITION TO HAPPEN. VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL, CAUSING CONSUMER SERIOUS INJURIES AND PASSENGER MINOR INJURIES. DEALER/MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *AK
THE ACCELERATOR CORD WAS STUCK CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL, CONSUMER ALSO TRIED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT IT DID NOT STOP THE CAR EITHER. NLM
WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A STOP VEHICLE STALLED WIITHOUT ANY INDICATION. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATON. *AK
I SAW THIS HAS A RECALL, BUT WHEN I TYPED IN MY VIN INTO YOUR SYSTEM IT SAYS '0 RECALLS.' I HAVE ALL THE ISSUES HAPPENING FOR THIS RECALL AND I WAS WONDERING HOW TO PROCEED.
SEAT BELT BECAME UNLATCHED AFTER BRAKING SUDDENLY TRAVELING AT 25 MPH.
STEERING WHEEL TILTED TOWARDS LEFT & UP. THIS CAUSES LOCATION OF AIR BAG TO BE POINTED TOWARDS DOOR. BEEN TO DEALER'S AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT TIMES & WAS INFORMED STEERING WHEEL WAS MADE & ASSEMBLED THAT WAY. *AK
