ROUGH IDLE, ENGINE WOULD STUMBLE BUT RECOVER SEVERAL TIMES WHEN IDLING BEFORE FULLY WARMED UP, POOR FUEL MILEAGE. NO MIL (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT), AND NO CODES OR PENDING CODES DETECTED. DEALER TESTED AND STRONGLY RECOMMENDED VALVE ADJUSTMENT. ONLY 63K MILES ON IT AND VALVES WERE NOT NOISY. OWNER'S MANUAL STATES, "ADJUST VALVES AT 105, 000 MILES OR IF NOISY". NEITHER WERE TRUE. I RESEARCHED CR-V MESSAGE BOARDS AND FOUND LOTS OF "1ST GEN." CR-V'S (MAINLY FROM '99 TO '01) WERE HAVING PROBLEM WHEREBY SOME VALVE SEATS WERE RECEDING INTO CYLINDER HEAD CAUSING NEED FOR PREMATURE VALVE ADJUSTMENTS, BURNT EXHAUST VALVES, OR SOME EVEN NEEDING TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD. MOST PEOPLE WHO HAD THE MORE SEVERE PROBLEMS ALSO EXPERIENCED MIL LIGHTING UP & CODE INDICATING ENGINE MISFIRE. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA CORP SEVERAL TIMES. THE 1ST TIME WAS LIKE PULLING TEETH TO GET THEM TO ADMIT THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND THE CORRESPONDING TSB (SERVICE BULLETIN) SENT TO DEALERS. THEY FINALLY ADMITTED IT. BUT AFTER REVIEWING MY CASE TWICE, BOTH TIMES THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE VALVE ADJUSTMENT. THEY CLAIMED: 1) DEALERS ARE FRANCHISED & HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM, 2) IT'S A MACHINE, AND MACHINES NEED ADJUSTING FROM TIME TO TIME, 3) I DIDN'T PURCHASE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO THEY CAN'T HELP ME, 4) MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS JUST A GENERAL GUIDELINE, VALVES SHOULD BE ADJUSTED SOONER, AND 5) SHOULD I REQUIRE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT IN THE FUTURE, THEY MIGHT OFFER ME SOME KIND OF RESTITUTION, BUT NO GUARANTEES. ENGINE RUNS FINE NOW AFTER VALVE ADJUSTMENT, BUT WHO'S TO SAY IN ANOTHER 10 TO 30K IT WON'T NEED IT AGAIN, PERHAPS ONLY TO FIND OUT IT'S TOO FAR OUT OF SPEC & WILL NEED NEW CYL. HEAD! IT'S PRINTED CLEARLY, IN BLACK & WHITE IN OWNER'S MANUAL: "ADJUST VALVES AT 105,000 MILES OR IF NOISY". PERHAPS WE SHOULD START CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST HONDA. THEY NEED TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, REDESIGN THE CYL. HEADS AND DO A RECALL! BUYERS BEWARE! *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER AND SHAKE. UPON STOPPING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT OBSERVED THE TIRE TREAD PEELING FROM THE TIRE. THE TIRE DID NOT FLATTEN. THE TIRE WAS A BRIDGESTONE DUELER 684, SIZE 205/70R15. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE IDLED ERRATICALLY INTERMITTENTLY WHILE SLOWING DOWN AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE VALVE WAS REPLACED AT 99,000 MILES. AT 134,000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE HEAD. THE VALVE MELTED INTO THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER. THE ENGINE HEAD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA ACTION NUMBER 10008524 FOR THE ENGINE.
I HAVE A 2001 HONDA CRV. THE BRACKETS THAT HOLD THE FRONT SEATS TO THE FLOOR ARE GETTING VERY RUSTY. I QUESTIONED THE HONDA DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I'M CONCERNED IF IN AN ACCIDENT, THE SEAT IS WEAKENED BY THE RUST AND THE SEAT WILL BREAK OFF. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS SITUATION? THANKS. *JB
MY 2001 HONDA CRV HAD TO HAVE THE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACED AFTER A FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. A HONDA DEALER STATED THERE WAS LOW COMPRESSION IN THE #3 CYLINDER. THE REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD (AT >3200$). I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 1999-2001 HONDA CRVS. I NOW HAVE AT LEAST 5 SUBSTANTIATED CASES (MY OWN, A COLLEAGUE WHO OWNS A 1999 CRV AND, THE COMPLAINT NUMBERS ON YOUR SITE 10062616, 10124224, 10143720). THERE ARE ALSO MANY UNSUBSTANTIATED BUT IDENTICAL CLAIMS ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES THAT IMPLY A FAIRLY WIDESPREAD MANUFACTURERS DEFECT LEADING TO THIS PROBLEM. THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME. HONDA APPEARS TO KNOW OF THIS DEFECT AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR OWN TSB #03-038 THAT STATES THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR. I ASKED HONDA FOR A GOODWILL WARRANTY (THERE IS SOME PRECEDENCE FOR THIS BY HONDA). I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED COMPLETE SERVICE RECORDS ....THESE WERE PROVIDED. THESE RECORDS INCLUDE A 60,000 MI SERVICE INCLUDING A TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT THAT WAS DONE JUST THE SUMMER BEFORE (MY VEHICLE HAD 82000 MI AT THE TIME OF THE ENGINE FAILURE). I WAS THEN TOLD TO CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT WHERE EVENTUALLY I WAS TOLD BY HONDA THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE REASON WAS THAT I DID NOT GET VALVE ADJUSTMENTS AT THE TIME OF MY 60000 MI SERVICE. THESE ARE HYDRAULIC VALVES AND ACCORDING TO MY OWN MECHANIC AND VERIFIED BY ANOTHER MECHANIC, THIS IS NOT STANDARD PRACTICE. THIS 'VALVE ADJUSTMENT' RECOMMENDATION IS ALSO NOT PART OF THE MITCHELL OEM RECOMMENDATIONS ALSO THAT WERE FOLLOWED BY MY MECHANIC (TSB 03-038 IS ALSO NOT INCLUDED). THE OUTCOME WAS TO TAKE MY VEHICLE FROM HONDA WHERE THEY DID NOT SUPPORT THEIR PRODUCT DESPITE WHAT APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN AND WIDESPREAD DEFECT AND BRING IT TO MY OWN MECHANIC. I HAVE RETAINED THE PART THAT APPEARS TO HAVE CAUSED MUCH OF THE PROBLEM (DAMAGED EXHAUST VALVE). I STRONGLY SUGGEST THERE BE AN INQUIRY INTO THIS PROBLEM AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS REPAIR. *JB
I WAS INVOLVED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT IN NOV. OF 2005 AND I WAS DRIVING A HONDA CRV 2001. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE ACCIDENT OR AFTER. THE VEHICLE ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES AND THERE WAS OVER 100 FEET OF DEBRIS. WHY DIDN'T THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY? THE CRV WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *JB
MY VEHICLE STALLS OUT, HAS ROUGH IDLE, AND MISFIRES. IT FIRST STARTED TO HAPPEN ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD. ONCE IT WARMED UP IT WAS FINE. IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. DEALER ADVISED ME TO GET A COMPLETE TUNE-UP AND SAID IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. IT STARTED AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD AND THEN AT ALL TIMES. THE DEALER SEEMED TO BE PERPLEXED BY THE WHOLE THING AND ADVISED ME AGAIN TO DO A TUNE-UP. ONCE AGAIN, PROBLEM WAS FIXED FOR AWHILE. THIS LAST TIME IT WENT DOWNHILL QUICKLY. WHEN ENGINE WAS COLD AND THEN STALLING AND DYING AT ANYTIME NO MATTER WHAT THE CONDITIONS WERE. THE MIL LIGHT CAME ON EVERYTIME I HAD THIS PROBLEM. HONDA NOW TELLS ME I HAVE LOW COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER #3 AND MY CAR MISFIRES. THEY ADVISED ME TO HAVE THE HEAD SENT TO THEIR MACHINE SHOP TO INSPECT IT. NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE AS OF YET. I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. HONDA CORP. KNOWS ABOUT THE HEAD PROBLEM. MY OWN RESEARCH FOUND VALVES NEED TO BE ADJUSTED/INSPECTED REGULARLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE A TENDENCY TO TIGHTEN WHICH LEADS AND/OR RESULTS IN THE VALVE RECEDING INTO THE CYLINDER/BURNT VALVE. I AM VERY UPSET DUE TO THE FACT THAT HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS AND THEY HAVE NEVER TOLD ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE VALVES. THE DEALER STILL NEVER DISCLOSED THIS KNOWN PROBLEM WHILE HAVING ME PAYING OVER $1000.00 JUST TO START ON THE REPAIR. IN THE CAR MANUAL IT STATES YOU ONLY NEED TO INSPECT THE VALVES EVERY 105,000 MILES OR IF YOU HEAR A NOISE. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NOISE FROM MY VALVES. THEY SHOULD BE CHECKED MORE LIKE EVERY 25,000-30,000 MILES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE TO HAVE YOUR CAR DIE OR STALL. I ASKED HONDA ABOUT THE VALVE. NOW THE SAME PEOPLE SEEM TO KNOW A LOT. AT THIS MOMENT, AMERICAN HONDA CORP. IS OFFERING ME A GOODWILL WARRANTY REPAIR OF 25% TO REPAIR IT, BUT THE CASE IS NOT SETTLED. I HAVE BEEN LIED TO, DECEIVED, RIPPED OFF, AND MOST OF ALL MY SAFETY WAS PUT INTO DANGER WILLINGLY. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRES ON VEHICLE WERE BAD. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING BADLY. SHE TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AND THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD HER IT WAS THE TIRES NOT THE STEERING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON. HE REPLACED ONE TIRE, AND TOLD HER TO CALL NHTSA. HE TOLD HER ONCE IT WAS SETTLED HE WOULD REPLACE THE OTHER THREE TIRES. SHE WANTED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THE ONE SHE HAD TO REPLACE ON 9-20-05. ALSO, THE CONTACT WANTED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THE OTHER THREE TIRES. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE, CAUSING FULL REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION, MANUFACTURER OFFERED FREE PART FOR THE TRANSMISSION.*AK
MY WIFE AND I HAVE A 2001 HONDA CR-V. WITHIN THE SPAN OF A FEW MONTHS, THE DOOR LOCKS ON ALL FOUR DOORS MALFUNCTIONED AND BROKE. THE LOCK ON THE FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE DOOR BROKE IN A POSITION THAT PREVENTS THE PASSENGER FROM BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR, WHICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR US. OUR DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $300 PER LOCK FOR REPAIR. WE HAVE NOT YET HAD THE FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE LOCK FIXED DUE TO THE COST, SO THE LOCK IS STILL BROKEN. WE HAVE ALSO NOT YET HAD THE LOCK ON EITHER REAR DOOR REPLACED, ALSO DUE TO THE COST.*AK
2001 HONDA CR-V DRIVER WAS KILLED BY THE AIR BAG WHILE DRIVING THE LEASED VEHICLE. *MW DOCUMENT DID NOT STATED IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, OR WAS THE CONSUMER JUST DRIVING AND THE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. *JB UPDATED 10/28/15.*JB
POWER WINDOWS FAILURE
I HAVE A 2001 HONDA CRV SE 4WD WITH 63K MILES. THREE YEARS AGO AT 30K MILES THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO MAKE SOME KIND OF RUBBING NOISE WHEN PULLING OUT OF PARKING. IT SOUNDED LIKE METAL TOUCHING METAL. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO POWAY HONDA DEALER BUT THEY REFUSED TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS NOISE EVER SINCE. *TR
2001 HONDA CR-V. CAR STALLS WHILE IDLING. RISK OF BEING REAR-ENDED WHEN IT OCCURS AT A SIGNAL AND THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN, OR IF I AM IN THE #1 LANE WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT-TURN. HONDA CORP. IS AWARE THAT THEIR 99-01 CR-V MODELS HAVE CYLINDER HEAD PROBLEMS THAT CAUSE THIS, BUT THEY ARE NOT OFFERING TO COVER THE $3000 NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD.
CAR STARTS WITHOUT KEY WHEN REMOTE LOCK IS USED AFTER DRIVING. DOES NOT HAVE KEYLESS START. SOMETIMES THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON ALSO OTHER TIMES ITS JUST THE ENGINE. YOU HAVE TO PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND SHIFT THE GEAR TO TURN OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES OVER THE YEARS. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE, COULD NOT HAPPEN AND I WAS MISTAKEN. I DO HAVE A VIDEO OF ONE INCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CR-V. HE STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL THEN THE ENGINE MISFIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. THE MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE ENGINE VALVES BURNED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND A REPRESENTATIVE CONCLUDED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135000.
I'VE HAD TWO VALVE JOBS DONE ON MY 2001 CRV, ONCE AT AROUND 45,000 MILES AND THAN AGAIN AT 95,000 BOTH TIMES IT WAS THE NUMBER 3 VALVE THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE OWNER'S MANUAL I HAVE INDICATES THAT THE VALVES NEED TO BE ADJUSTED AT 105,000 MILES BUT ACCORDING TO THE DEALER WHERE I HAD THE WORK DONE IT NEEDS TO BE DONE EVERY 15,000 MILES. I FIND THAT THIS TYPE OF MAINTENANCE ON A NON-PERFORMANCE CAR RIDICULOUS NOT TO MENTION EXPENSIVE AND TIME CONSUMING. *AK
HONDA CRV 2001, AIR CONDITIONER PROBLEMS . *BF DURING AN OIL CHANGE, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE OIL DIP STICK CONTAINER HAD DETACHED FROM THE MOTOR AND BROKEN AT THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE OIL DIP STICK HAD BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND CHIPS EASILY WHEN EVEN THE SMALLEST PEBBLE FLIES UP AND HITS IT. I'VE READ OF OTHERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. MY WINDSHIELD HAS THREE CHIPS FROM THIS HAPPENING.*JB
THE REAR RIGHT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH. THIS RESULTED IN THE DRIVER TEMPORARILY LOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE. *AK THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. *SCC *JB
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY, "THERE WAS A LOUD POP THAT CAME FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR BOARD NEAR THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS." THE DRIVER IMMEDIATELY SAW FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND PULLED OVER. ANOTHER DRIVER TRAVELING BEHIND TOLD THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A TRAIL OF GAS LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*AK CONSUMER SMELLED GAS BEFORE FIRE IGNITED. A PASSERBY PUT MOST OF THE FIRE OUT BEFORE THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED. *PH *JB
MY WIFE PURCHASED A 2001 HONDA CRV. ON AUGUST 2, 2003 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WITH OUR FAMILY (WIFE AND 2 SMALL CHILDREN) FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WENT FLAT. I USED THE JACK WITH THE CAR TO CHANGE THE TIRE. I FIRST LOOSENED THE LUG NUTS ON THE GROUND. I RAISED THE CAR WITH THE JACK. WHILE TAKING OFF THE TIRE - THE JACK COLLAPSED CAUSING THE CAR TO FALL. THIS WAS DANGEROUS AND THANK GOD NOBODY GOT HURT! THE JACK WAS DAMAGED (IT IS TILTED TO ONE SIDE). WHEN I RAISED THE CAR IT WAS ON ASPHALT AND FLAT GROUND. I CONTACTED HONDA USA DIRECTLY PER MY DEALER'S INSTRUCTIONS. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS JACK WAS DESIGNED POORLY AND/OR WAS DEFECTIVE. HONDA REPLIED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT I SHOULD JUST BUY ANOTHER JACK FROM THEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I AM VERY TROUBLED BY THEIR LACK OF CONCERN. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN ISSUE ME A NEW JACK UNDER THE WARRANTY AS THE CAR HAD 42,000 (6K MILES OVER THE WARRANTY). I FIND THIS TROUBLING TOO, HOW WOULD I KNOW THE JACK WAS DEFECTIVE UNTIL I USED IT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I USED IT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND CONCERNED ABOUT HONDA'S LACK OF CARE AND RESPONSIBILITY.*JB
I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS MANDATORY FOR CARS TO INDICATE WHETHER OR NOT ALL DOORS ARE CLOSED ON THEIR DASHBOARDS. ON THE HONDA 2001 CRV IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL IS A DOOR IS SECURELY SHUT BECAUSE THERE IS NO INDICATOR. THIS I BELIEVE IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE INVESTIGATED OR EVEN RECALLED. *JB
2001 HONDA CRV ENGINE VALVES MISFIRED AND BURNED IN 2003 AND AGAIN IN 2006. REPAIR APPEARS COSTLY AND I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED AS A RECURRING ISSUE AMONGST THE 1999-2001 CRV VEHICLES. I AM DISMAYED TO HEAR THAT THIS REPAIR MAY COST $4400 AND THE HONDA DEALER THUS HAS QUOTED AMERICAN HONDA AS SAYING THEY WILL NOT PAY. I UNDERSTAND THAT SERVICE BULLETIN #03-038 ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE AND I DON'T FEEL IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. *NM
AT 72,000 MILES MY CRV BLEW 2 HEAD GASKETS THUS REQUIRING AN ENGINE OVERHAUL. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING A FEW VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER, PROBLEMS ARE NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AK AT 144,000 MILES IT REQUIRED A CATALYCTIC CONVERTER BECAUSE IT CLOGGED.. HOWEVER, I WAS NOTICING A WEIRD SOUND UNDER THE CAR AT 130,000. AND BEFORE THAT IT DID NOT FEEL AS POWERFUL WHEN GOING UP INCLINES. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY ARE GETTING A LOT OF VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL WITH THE CATALICTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM AND AS A MATTER OF FACT HE HAD ONE CRV THIS PAST WEEK IN WHICH HE HAD TO CHANGE THE CONVERTER. UNFORTUNATELY, WHERE I RESIDE EMMISIONS INSPECTION IS NOT REQUIRED. MAYBE, IF WE DID, THE PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYCTIC CONVERTER WOULD HAD BEEN NOTICED IF IT HAD FAILED THE EMMISSIONS TEST. PLEASE HELP!

I HAVE OWNED A 2001 CRV HONDA 4WD OR REAL TIME FOR LESS THAN ONE YEAR THIS IS THE FIRST FULL WINTER IN RURAL NORTHERN MICHIGAN WITH THIS AUTOMOBILE AND LET ME ADD THIS WINTER WAS MILD COMPARED TO MOST. I HAVE HAD TWO ROLLOVERS WITH THIS AUTOMOBILE WITHIN THE LAST 8WEEKS THE FIRST IN DECEMBER AND THE SECOND IN FEB 02 AT FIRST I DID EXCEPT THE ROLLOVER WITH ROAD CONDITIONS AND ALL BUT AFTER THE SECOND I CANNOT, I HAVE LEARNED NOW THAT THIS SO CALLED SUV IS SOLD AND WAS SOLD TO ME AS A 4WD ALL TIME BUT IT IS INFACT NOT. I HAVE LEARNED ALSO WHY I WOULD JUST LOOSE CONTROL IT IS A AUTOMATIC SPIN AND ROLL AND YOU HAVE NO CONTROL THIS IS BECAUSE THE REAL TIME 4WD IS NOT 4WD THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE KICKS IN WHEN SENSORS DETECT THAT THE FRONT WHEELS ARE SPINNING,LOSING TRACTION, THEN THE CRV REVERT TO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE THE MORE THE FRONT WHEELS SLIP, THE MORE THE REAR WHEELS KICK IN WHICH CAUSES YOU TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL, THIS HAS HAPPEND ON BLACK ICE TWICE NO SPEEDING TICKETS AND NO AT FAULT TICKETS FOR THE DRIVER IF THAT TELLS YOU ANYTHING. I AM 32 AND HAVE TO HAD A ACCIDENT IN 13YEARS MY INSURANCE HAS DOUBLED, THIS HAS CAUSED INJURIES AND IT IS HARD TO BRING MYSELF TO DRIVE WITHOUT CRYING. I AM SO SCARED THEY ARE GOING TO FIX AND GIVE ME THIS CAR BACK I CANNOT PUT MYSELF OR MY CHILDREN IT THIS DEATH TRAP. THIS SUV IS NOT FIT FOR A RURAL AREAS OR ANY KIND OF DRIVING OTHER THAN ON DRY WARM PAVEMENT ONLY.*AK

CONSUMER STATES THAT AFTER LOCKING THE SEAT BELT IN PLACE, AND THE CONSUMER MOVES THE SEAT BELT WILL LOCK UP AND THE CONSUMER CANNOT DRIVE PROPERLY ANY LONGER. CONTACTED DEALER. MR CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT WHEN THE SEAT BELT LOCKS UP ITS TOO TIGHT FOR HIM TO DRIVE PROPERLY. PH 09-DEC-2002

NOT ALL HONDA MAKES ARE RELIABLE... WITH THIS NEW HONDA VEHICLE I'VE EXPERIENCED BAD PAINT, LEAKING CARGO, BUBBLES ON PILAR, WEATHER STRIPS COMING APART, & ESPEICALLY REAR SEATBELT MISSING. NOT ALL JANPANESE CARS ARE RELIABLE!!!! ESPECIALLY AMERICAN HONDA'S REP IN CA GAVE THE MOST UNPLEASANT & DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE.
THE BACK TIRE LOCKED UP IN A CURVE AND CAUSED A HEAD ON COLLISION. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM CAME FROM A CLUTCH FAILURE. WHAT FURTHER SUPPORTS MY THEORY IS THE FACT THAT THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FELL APART AND THE TIMING CHAIN WAS BROKEN. THE BACK TIRE HAD TEMPORARILY HALTED AS I MADE IT THROUGH THE CLUTCHES ON 2 OCCASIONS PRIOR TO MY CRASH.
THE MAJOR NEGATIVE GROUND WIRE LOCATED CLOSE TO THE BATTERY WAS NOT SECURELY BOLTED TO THE BODY CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO START ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE DRIVING. NLM
SEAT BELTS WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT BUCKLE PROPERLY. BUCKLE WILL NOT "LOCK" INTO PLACE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SECURE OCCUPANTS INTO SEAT BELTS.*AK
IN OWNER'S MANUAL IT STATES TO ADJUST THE STEERING WHEEL SO THAT THE WHEEL POINTS TOWARD THE CHEST AND NOT TOWARD THE FACE DUE TO PROTECTION FROM THE AIRBAG, HOWEVER CONSUMER IS 5 FEET 6 INCHES TALL AND WOULD HAVE TO BE 3-4 INCHES TALLER IN ORDER TO HAVE THE STEERING WHEEL POINT TOWARD HIS CHEST, A REP FROM AMERICAN HONDA SUGGESTED TO HAVE THE DEALER TO MODIFY THE SEAT, BUT THIS WOULD VOID THE WARRANTY. *SLC
MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN YOU PREPARE TO COME TO A STOP, PRESS THE CLUTCH AND BRAKE, THE CAR WILL DIE. NO WARNING AT ALL. THE RPM'S WILL JUST DIVE TO 0 AND IT DIES. WHEN IT FIRST BEGAN, I KEPT A DETAIL LOG OF WEATHER, LENGTH OF TRIP, EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF AND EACH TIME IT DIED, IT BLEW ANOTHER IDEA OUT OF THE WATER. NOTHING SEEMED TO COORDINATE FROM TIME TO TIME. I HAVE HAD IT IN ABOUT 4 TIMES TOTAL INTO TWO DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERS AND NIETHER OF THEM HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE STALL. THEREFORE, THEY CAN'T FIND NOR FIX THE PROBLEM.*AK

HATCHBACK WINDOW IMPLODED WHILE IN PARK AND ENGINE TURNED OFF. NO IMPACT WAS SUSTAINED WHILE PARKED IN GARAGE. GLASS WAS REPLACED, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME. *AK
THE REAR HATCH BACK WINDOW MALFUNCTIONED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE NORMALLY THE KIDS SIT BACK THERE. *AK *SCC *JB
