2003 HONDA CRV--HEADLIGHT LOW-BEAMS REPEATEDLY GOING OUT. HAVE REPLACED THEM TWICE. CLEANED CONNECTOR IN STEERING COLUMN LAST TIME, AND LOW-BEAMS CAME BACK ON (OBVIOUS CORROSION/SIGNS OF OVER-HEATING NOTED). THIS TIME I HAVE RE-CLEANED CONNECTOR, BUT LOW-BEAMS STILL OUT. WILL TRY REPLACING BOTH BULBS. I HAVE READ ON INTERNET THAT THIS IS A SOMEWHAT COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
BOTH HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS FAILED WHILE DRIVING, FOUND CAUSE TO BE MELTED ELECTRICAL WIRES AND CONNECTION AT HEADLIGHT SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES WITHIN THREE MONTHS. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO 70 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,322 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,069. UPDATED 10/04/11*LJ PRIOR TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THE THROTTLE BODY PART OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM WAS BROKEN WHICH CAUSED A CABLE TO BE STUCK; THIS CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHICH IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. UPDATED 10/24/11
THE AIR CONDITIONER (AC) STOPPED WORKING. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT THE COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AND DESTROYED MANY COMPONENTS IN THE SYSTEM. HE QUOTED ME ABOUT $2,000 TO FIX THE ISSUE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA DEALER AND THEY TOLD THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE $3500. I LIVE IN THE DALLAS, TEXAS AREA AND WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING TRIPLE DIGIT TEMPERATURE. THIS IS A CAR MY WIFE USES. WE HAVE TWO LITTLE KIDS. NOT HAVING A WORKING AC IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. I CONTACTED HONDA USA FOR HELP AND THEY TOLD ME SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WITH THE SYSTEM. THEY WOULD NOT AGREE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE COUNTLESS POSTINGS ON THE WEB ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. HONDA SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. IN HOT CLIMATES, NOT HAVING AN AC IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NOW, I AM STUCK! WHERE AM I GOING TO GET $3500 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAS MADE THE CAR COMPLETELY USELESS. I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. HONDA SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE THIS COMPANY IS ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF SO MANY PEOPLE.
DRIVING AT 5 MPH AFTER LEAVING HOME I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT CAME FROM THE CABIN FAN (THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON). I TURNED OFF FAN AND NOISE STOPPED. AT TRAFFIC LIGHT TRIED FAN WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITIONER AND ENGINE STALLED. ENGINE DID NOT RESTART UNTIL I TURNED OFF FAN. PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS FAILURE OF AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR AND A FROZEN AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH. OTHER THAN THE NOISE THERE WAS NO WARNING OF FAILURE. CAR WAS SERVICED 2 MONTHS AND 800 MILES BEFORE INCIDENT. IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT AT THE TIME OF FAILURE RESULTED IN STALLED ENGINE. IF CAR WAS MOVING THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOSS OF CONTROL AS POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WOULD HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. IF FAILURE HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEED I THINK I WOULD HAVE EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE OR COMPRESSOR CLUTCH (AND SHRAPNEL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR ON THE ROAD AND LIKELY LOSS OF CONTROL). HERE WAS NO EARLY INDICATION OR WARNING OF COMPONENT FAILURE. ALTHOUGH DAMAGE WAS ISOLATED TO COMPRESSOR, IF I HAD REACTED SLOWER OR HAD THE SPEED BEEN HIGHER THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF ADDITIONAL DAMAGE OR INJURY.
A/C COMPRESSOR IMPLODED AND DAMAGED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AS A REPLACEMENT COST OF $3400.00. *TR
THE DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT ALLOW KEY TO BE INSERTED. BEEN THIS WAY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND IT STARTED WITH LOCKS DIFFICULT TO TURN. NOW NO LOCKS WORK AFTER FRANK ANCONA HONDA OF OLATHE KANSAS "REPAIRED" THEM A FEW YEARS BACK AND EVEN MADE NEW KEYS. THEY JUST TOLD ME TO FORCE THE KEYS IN AND TWIST HARD THEN TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T FIXED. I DID NOT PAY FOR THE UNSATISFACTORY WORK. I'VE REPLACED DOOR LOCKS ON SEVERAL OTHER MAKE VEHICLES AND HAVE CARS THAT ARE 35 YEARS OLDER AND THOSE DOOR LOCKS WORK PERFECTLY. ONLINE I'VE NOTICED NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS OF VERY DISGUSTED PEOPLE. THIS PROBLEM PREVENTS US FROM BEING ABLE TO LOCKS THE DOORS WHEN LEAVING THE CAR ANYWHERE. AS A ROAD POLICE OFFICER OF 30-31 YEARS NOW I KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF SECURITY OF BELONGINGS OR EVEN WHEN SITTING STATIONARY IN A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD. HONDA DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE CRV'S DOOR LOCKS. THEY PUT DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT INTO THE CRV. I JUST GAVE UP AND DON'T KEEP ANYTHING IN THE CRV WITH ANY HINT OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ON IT OR PROPERTY I'M NOT PREPARED TO LOSE. I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE CAR DUE TO THEFT. OR HAVE SOMEONE PULL THE HOOD RELEASE AND STEAL BATTERY, ENGINE PARTS,... HONDA IS WORTHLESS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS BEGIN TO DIM ABNORMALLY BEFORE FAILING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000. HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND WIRING HARNESS DAMAGED BY OVERHEATING/MELTING ON 2003 HONDA CRV. UPDATED 06/13/11 *BF RECEIVED INVOICE. UPDATED 08/18/11 *TR
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT ALL, THEN LEFT IT FOR 2 HOURS AND CAME BACK AND IT STARTED. THEN 2 MONTHS LATER IT IS STARTING FINE, BUT STALLING QUITE OFTEN WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL SOMETIMES CUT OUT AND THEN RECOVER AND KEEP GOING (THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT CUTS OUT, BUT GOES OUT AGAIN WHEN IT KEEPS GOING) OTHER TIMES IT STALLS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT STALLS BUT EVERYTHING ELSE STILL WORKS (RADIO, LIGHTS). IT HAS STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH, IN THE CITY AT 40 MPH, ALSO SLOWING TO TAKE A TURN. THIS STARTED OUT ONLY STALLING ONCE IN A FEW DAYS. IT IS NOW STALLING SEVERAL TIMES IN A DAY. I DON'T DRIVE IT THAT FAR ANYMORE, BUT I STILL HAVE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE THE GARAGE DOES NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THERE WERE NO CODES, AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING. I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH IT, BUT READING THE FORUMS IT SOUNDS LIKE IT MIGHT BE THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS GO OUT. HI-BEAM LAMPS STILL WORK. THE PROBLEM IS THE CONTACTS ON THE DIMMER SWITCH CORRODE; THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTS OF SCORCHED CONNECTORS - MEANING THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRE. TO ACCESS THE SWITCH YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE STEERING COLUMN COVER AND THEN LOCATE THE DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL WIRING HARNESS. MOST CONSUMERS WOULD NOT KNOW HOW NOR BE ABLE TO DO THIS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED MANY TIMES ON INTERNET BLOGS.
AT 78,000 MILES MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND WILL NOT GO OFF. *TR
I COULD NOT UNLOCK MY CAR AND I HAD TO CALL AAA TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE, I GOT A TICKET FOR PARKING DURING STREET SWEEPING TIME. THE KEY SEAMS TO BIND INTO THE LOCK AND WILL NOT UNLOCK. I TOOK MY CR-V IN TO MILLER HONDA WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY QUOTED ME A VERY HIGH PRICE TO FIX THE LOCKS, I REFUSED THE SERVICE AND THE SERVICE WRITER GAVE ME A REFERRAL TO A LOCKSMITH WHO DID THE JOB FOR A FIFTH OF THE PRICE THE DEALERSHIP HAD QUOTED. THIS WAS ABOUT TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO. I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE LOCKSMITH ABOUT A YEAR LATER TO HAVE THE SAME WORK DONE. NOW I HAVE GO BACK FOR A THIRD TIME. I HAVE HAD TO SPEND $250.00 ON MY LOCKS. THIS SITUATION OF THE LOCKS BINDING COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR A WOMAN NOT BEING ABLE TO GET INTO THE CAR QUICKLY. *TR
FRONT END PULLS HARD TO RIGHT ON UNEVEN PAVEMENT, OR ON HIGHWAY IF SMALL CUT LINES ARE ON ROADWAY. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS PULLED TO RIGHT SINCE NEW AND I HAVE HAD TO HAVE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS MORE THAN TWICE A YEAR. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE HAD WARRANTY WORK FOR CLUNKING NOISE IN FRONT END WHEN NEW. HAVE WENT THROUGH SEVERAL SETS OF TIRES PREMATURELY BECAUSE THE TIRES ON THE FRONT ALWAYS WEAR OUT ON THE OUTER AND INNER EDGE. TIRES ARE ALWAYS PROPERLY INFLATED TO MFG SPECS. AFTER GETTING NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT THE VEHICLE OPERATES FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR TWO THEN IT GRADUALLY GETS WORSE. AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS WHEN RELEASING THE GAS PEDDLE THE CAR SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY AND THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT GETS WORSE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE IT MADE AN ELECTRICAL SIZLING NOISE AND WHEN THE KEY WAS PULLED OUT OF THE IGNITION IT WAS VERY HOT.THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER STATED THAT THE SEATBELT GOT CAUGHT OVER HIS HEAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO CUT THE SEATBELT TO AVOID THE PASSENGER CHOKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE SEATBELT WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO REFERRED HIM TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,274.
I BELIEVE MY 2003 HONDA CRV HAS A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH INTERLOCK. THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE CAR IS OFF AND THE GEAR IS NOT IN PARK. AS A RESULT MY CRV HAS ROLLED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY 3 DIFFERENT TIMES, PLOWING INTO THE HILLSIDE ACROSS THE STREET, AND RECENTLY NEARLY RAN OVER MY WIFE. ON 10/07/10 I TOOK MY CAR TO OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHO SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MY CAR. HONDA ACKNOWLEDGED AND I BELIEVE CORRECTED KEY INTERLOCK FAILURE PROBLEMS ON PRE-2003 MODELS AND SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CORRECT POST-2003 CRV DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH INTERLOCKS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED SUDDENLY; THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON AND THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE HIGH BEAMS TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THA THE LOW BEAM TERMINAL OVERHEATED AND DAMAGED THE SWITCH. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COSTS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,720.
JUST DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY AND I HEAR A LOUD NOISE AND MY A/C STOPS WORKING....IT WAS 94 DEGREES IN THE MIDWEST! GOT HOME THAT NIGHT AND MY TIRE WAS FLAT. I TOOK MY TIRE TO GET FIXED AND THEY PULLED SHARDS OF METAL OUT OF THE TIRE, WHICH WAS NEW! WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO GET THE A/C LOOKED AT, THEY SAID THAT THE COMPRESSOR HAD BLOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THAT IT WOULD BE $1700 TO REPAIR!!!!! THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE COMPRESSOR BLEW, IT SPRAYED PIECES OF METAL THROUGHOUT MY CAR, AND OBVIOUSLY INTO MY TIRE! I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA, AND THEY OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE THIS OFFER AS IT WAS SUMMER AND TEMPERATURES WERE OVER 100 WITH THE HEAT INDEX! HONDA REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE DAMAGED PART. THERE ARE SOOO MANY COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS SAME EVENT HAPPENING, BUT HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, IF YOU WANT TO JOIN. THE MORE THAT JOIN, THE BETTER THE CHANCES OF GETTING HONDA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE ONLY OWNED HONDA'S, BUT WILL NOW BE BUYING A TOYOTA! SO DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA! *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE 2003 CRV, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE MARBLES GOING THROUGH THE AC VENTS, THEN SAW A PUFF OF SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THE AC QUIT BLOWING COLD AIR. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE CRV, HE SAID CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA SINCE YOU ARE A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND THE PROBABLY WOULD COVER IT UNDER A GOOD WILL GESTURE. NO SUCH LUCK, THE PERSON WE SPOKE TO SAID THAT THEY WOULD GIVE US NOTHING, SINCE THIS IS NOT A HONDA ISSUE. I REQUESTED TO SPEAK TO SOME ONE HIGHER UP AND THE GENTLEMAN , STATED HE MAKES THE DECISIONSO IT DOES NOT HAVE TO GO ANY FURTHER THAN HIM, I ASKED HOW CAN YOU BE THE ONLY PERSON WHO DECIDES THIS, I THEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO HIS SUPERVISOR AND HE STATED HE WOULD NOT TALK TO ME ANY FURTHER ABOUT THIS EITHER, THAT THE DECISION IS WITH HIM. I REQUESTED ONE MORE TIME, HE THEN HUNG UP ON ME. I CALLED BACK A DAY LATER AND GOT THE SAME RESULTS, AS SOON AS YOU GIVE THEM YOUR VIN # , I GOT PUT ON HOLD AND SENT TO THE SAME PERSON AS BEFORE. I WANTED TO TALK TO A DIFFERENT PERSON. I GOT SEVERAL ESTIMATES NOW TO REPLACE THE AC, ANYWHERE FROM $2900 TO $4500 DEPENDING ON WHERE I TAKE IT. HONDA DEALERS ARE REQUIRING THE WHOLE SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED, COMPRESSOR, DRYER UNIT, CONDENSER AND LINES. APPARENTLY IT SENDS METAL PARTICLES THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE SYSTEM. IF IT IS NOT FLUSHED OR REPLACED IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN. I HAVE NOW TRIED TO GET THE DEALER TO HELP THE WILL COVER 25% OF THE COST ON PARTS ONLY. I WILL PROBABLY GET THE SYSTEM REPAIRED OR SELL THE VEHICLE AS IS. UNSURE. PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE WHEN I DO HAVE IT REPAIRED, I WILL ASK FOR THEM BACK. I WILL CONTINUE TO CALL AMERICAN HONDA UNTIL I RECEIVE SOME TYPE OF RESOLUTION, MY WIFE IS WRITING A LETTER TO HONDA. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THIS SEEMED TO BE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH 2002 TO 2004 HONDA CRV'S . NEVER BUY AGAIN. *TR
IN MY 2003 HONDA CRV EX I HAD BEEN NOTICING THAT MY STEERING WHEEL TILT LOCK LEVER HAD BEEN GETTING LOOSER AFTER EACH TIME I ADJUSTED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION. SOMETIMES I WOULD JUST BE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SUDDENLY GO UP AND DOWN AND I WOULD HAVE TO REACT VERY QUICKLY BY PUSHING THE STEERING WHEEL TILT LEVER BACK UP INTO THE LOCKING POSITION. EVENTUALLY THIS PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR UP TO 5 TIMES A DAY. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN MY CRV. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 64 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL LURCHED ALMOST OUT OF MY HANDS AFTER GOING OVER A SMALL BUMP. I WAS SURROUNDED BY VEHICLES ON ALL SIDES AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. IF I DID NOT ACT VERY QUICKLY BY PULLING THE TILT LEVER BACK INTO THE LOCKING POSITION THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE MULTICAR ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE AND ME AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FAULTY TILT LEVER. THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY HONDA IMMEDIATELY.

THEY CHANGED THE BULBS AGAIN, AND REFUSED TO LOOK IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE BULB CHANGE WORKED TEMPORARILY. THE CHANGING OF THE BULBS MOVED PROBABLY MOVED THE WIRING ENOUGH TO COMPLETE CONTACT SO THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED. FURTHER DRIVING WOULD LOOSEN THE WIRES AND THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OUT. THE CONSUMER FIXED THE PROBLEM BY USING A LIBERAL APPLICATION OF SILICON DI-ELECTRIC GREASE AT THE CONNECTION POINT BETWEEN THE BURNT CONNECTOR AND THE CORRODED PINS.
