DURING FUELING OF VEHICLE, 1 TO 2 SECONDS AFTER PUMP AUTOMATICALLY STOPS, FUEL SPILLS OUT OF FILLER TUBE. EVEN UPON REMOVING GAS PUMP HANDLE, FUEL CAN BE SEEN FLOWING OUT OF FILLER TUBE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND. ESTIMATE 4 TO 8 OUNCES TOTAL. POTENTIAL FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. OCCURS ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME THE CAR IS FUELED, AND HAS OCCURED AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, AND TRYING TO MAKE A TURN STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND THE CAR BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER DROVE THE VEHICLE, AND AGREED THAT THE POWER STEERING UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE. HONDA WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE, AND STATED VEHICLE HAD NO DEFECTS.*AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB SEE ODI 10081292, SAME VIN. *DSY
A THOUSAND MILES AFTER THE FIRST OIL CHANGE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH. THE FIRE WAS DUE TO POORLY INSTALLED OIL FILTERS. DEALER WAS REPLACING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT RESISTANC. *AK
THE OIL FILTER WAS CHANGED ON THE FIRST OIL CHANGE FOR A NEW VEHICLE WHEN THE FILRE WAS CHANGE ONE OF THE GASKETS STUCK TO THE ENGINE,THE DOUBLE BANDED GASKET BURST AND OIL WAS RELEASED ONTO THE EXHAUST, CAUSING A FIRE.*AK A NEW OIL FILTER WAS INSTALLED AFTER THE EXTRA GASKET WAS REMOVED.
WE GOT OUR FIRST OIL CHANGE AND AFTERWARDS MY CAR STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD AND THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I CALLED MY BOYFRIEND TO COME HELP ME 15 QUARTS OF OIL LATER AND 2 FILTERS LATER, IT WAS FINALLY NOTICED THE ORIGINAL O RING HAD MELTED TO THE BLOCK. THE OIL HAD SPRAYED ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND STARTED TO BURN. HAD I NOT PULLD OVER WHEN I HAD MY CAR PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. I PULLED OVER JUST IN TIME. MY BOYFRIEND SEEMS TO THINK THAT THIS HAPPENED BACAUSE OF WHERE THE POSITION OF THE OIL FILTER IS BASICALLY IT IS TO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE RING IS GETTING TO HOT AND MELTING TO THE BLOCK.*AK
WHEN MAKING A LOW SPEED EVASIVE MANUEVER THAT REQUIRES TURNING SHARPLY FROM ONE DIRECTION TO ANOTHER, THE STEERING LOSES ITS POWER ASSIST TEMPORARILY. FEELS LIKE STEERING IS JAMMED. PROBLEM MANIFESTS WHEN TRAVELING BELOW 20MPH WITH BRAKING AND A SWERVE TO ONE DIRECTION FOLLOWED BY ACCELERATION AND ATTEMPT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. WHILE AVOIDING THE COLLISION, THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND DROPPED DOWN A 30 FOOT EMBANKMENT. UPON IMPACT, THEDUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BROKEN NECK IN THREE PLACES, MAJOR BACK INJURIES, AND FRACTURES OF SEVEN RIBS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW 2004 HONDA CRV ON JUNE 27, 2004. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT IT I WAS INFORMED NOT ONLY OF THIS WEBSITE BUT OF THE FIRES THAT EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT AFTER THEY GET THEIR OIL CHANGED. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A LARGE CORPORATION LIKE HONDA IS ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS. OR HOW A SAFETY RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED YET. WHY IS IT WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? SOON I WILL HAVE TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED AND THAT IS TERRIFYING TO ME. HOW ABOUT THE NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT TIME I HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED? IS THIS SOMETHING THAT CAN HAPPEN WHENEVER THE OIL IS CHANGED THROUGHTOUT THE LIFE OF MY CAR? HAVING JUST HAD THE FIRST OIL CHANGE PERFORMED ON MY 2004 HONDA CR-V, I WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHICH PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE (HANOVER HONDA IN HANOVER, PA) WHEN SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE STREET AND THE IGNITION SWITCHED OFF WITHIN SECONDS OF THE LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. I WAS TOLD BY THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER THAT IT APPEARED THE OIL FILTER WAS DEFECTIVE. AFTER HEARING REPORTS IN THE NEWS (ON JULY 9, 2004) OF OTHER CR-V OWNER WHO EXPERIENCED FIRES IN THEIR VEHICLES THAT SEEMED TO ORIGINATE WITH THE OIL FILTER, I WANTED TO FILE THIS REPORT WITH NHTSA.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE DOUBLE GASKET CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
HAD OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACED ON JUNE 16. DROVE HOME, APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES. NEXT DAY DROVE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES AND CAR WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT FIRE.POLICE FILLED OUT REPORT.THE HONDA HAD JUST OVER 3,700 MILES AND WAS PURCHASED MARCH 25, 2004. *AK
(1) VEHICLE (2004 HONDA CR-V, VIN#SHSRD68474U20079) WAS BROUGHT INTO BRAHMAN HONDA (LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN MIAMI) FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE ON APRIL 12TH, 2004. CONTINUED NORMAL USAGE OF VEHICLE UNTIL ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE ON JUNE 16TH, 2004 AT 8PM.*AK (2) VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN IN NORMAL TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ALONG MAJOR STREET. AS THE VEHICLE WE BEING DRIVEN, IT BEGAN EMITTING LARGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DISENGAGE THE VEHICLE AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION. FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND MOVE THE DISABLED VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. EVIDENCE OF SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK CAN BE FOUND. EVIDENCE OF OIL LEAKAGE CAN BE FOUND INSIDE AND UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. (3) VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT INTO BRAHMAN HONDA. PENDING INSPECTION BY INSURANCE COMPANY AND HONDA MECHANICS.
CALLED REGARDING RECALL OF 2004 HONDA CR-V. MANUFACTURER HAD NO INFORMATION ABOUT RECALL, COULDNT TELL ME WHEN RECALL NOTICES WERE GOING OUT AND REFERRED ME TO NHTSA FOR MORE INFORMATION. *AK
ON MAY 29, 2004, I PURCHASED A HONDA CR-V, 2004, VEHICLE FROM CASEY HONDA IN NEWPORT NEWS. IT IS A FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ONLY TWO WEEKS AND I ONLY DROVE IT 109 MILES. THE ODOMETER RIGHT NOW SHOWS 117 MILES. ON JUNE 13, I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN NEWPORT NEWS, VA WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, IN FRONT OF THE STOP TRAFFIC LIGHT. THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL COMING OUT OF THE HOOD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TURN ON THE ENGINE THE TACHOMETER SHOW 1000 RPM, THEN 3000 RPM AND THEN BACK AGAIN TO 2000 RPM. THUS THE TACHOMETER SHOWS AN UNSTABLE RUNNING ENGINE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS ON THE NEUTRAL OR PARKING POSITION. I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND GET HOME WHICH WAS FORTUNATELY ONLY A MILE AWAY. ON JUNE 14, 2004 I CONTACTED THE CASEY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SENT THEIR REPRESENTATIVE TO TOW AWAY THE VEHICLE. THE ODOMETER SHOWED 117 MILES. THE SAME DAY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICEMAN, MR. KEVIN, CALLED ME AND TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE AND THAT THEY HAVE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A WEEK UNTIL THE PARTS WILL ARRIVE AND THEY WILL TRY TO FIX IT. HE TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM ARE SOME DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE.
MY 2004 HONDA CRV IGNITED AND BURST INTO FLAMES. THIS OCCURRED THE SAME DAY AS THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. MILEAGE WAS 5,400.*AK
1) WHILE COMING TO A STOP OFF AN EXIT RAMP THE CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE OT MAX SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TOM STOP THE CAR WAS TO HOLD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES AND SHUT CAR OFF. (THIS IS ONE OUT OF FOUR INCIDENTS BETWEEN 1000 AND 2000 MILES ON A BRAND NEW HONDA CR-V) 2)RESTART OF CAR CORRETED PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY IT HAPENED AGAIN AND IT TOOK 5 RE- STARTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. 3) HONDA LOOKED AT CAR TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR.*AK
PURCHASED 2004 HONDA CR-V JANUARY 2004 FROM CONTINENTAL HONDA IN ANCHORAGE ALASKA. WE TOOK IT IN FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE (5,000 MILES) ON JUNE 16TH. AFTER DRIVING THE 15 MILES HOME, THE ENGINE STARTED BILLOWING SMOKE, AND SPUING OIL (THE TRAIL OF OIL CAN STILL BE SEEN ON THE STREET). THE DEALER HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, THEY EXPLAINED IT AS A FAULTY OIL GASKET, AND OFFERED A FREE OIL CHANGE. AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW WEEKS, I NOTICED A CLACKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAD THE TECHINTIANS CHECK IT OUT DURING THE SECOND OIL CHANGE ON AUGUST 16. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF LOOKING FOR THE PROBLEM, THEY DEDUCED THERE WAS SOME "SCORING" INSIDE THE PISTONS AND THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SHORTBLOCK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A FLUKE (A FIRST TIME INCIDENT) AND THAT THE ENGINE WILL BE SENT TO HONDA USA FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. I FINALLY GOT THE CALL YESTERDAY (SEPTEMBER 9) THAT THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. IN ALL FAIRNESS, THE EMPLOYEES AT THE DEALERSHIP WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS.*AK
ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9, 2004 MY 2004 HONDA CRV CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP FROM HAVING 1ST OIL CHANGE. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS "THE OLD O-RING/GASKET WAS NOT REMOVED AND A NEW ONE ADDED ON TOP OF OLD ONE". HOWEVER YESTERDAY WHEN I WENT BY TO GET THINGS OUT OF OTHER CAR I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT CAUSED FIRE. DEALERSHIP WANTED TO REPAIR CAR AND GIVE IT BACK TO ME, BUT I REFUSED. AFTER WATCHING MY CAR BURN I JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT BACK....AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF DISCUSSION AND TO THE POINT OF ME WALKING OUT AND GETTING LEGAL HELP, THEY GAVE ME A NEW 2004 CRV. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I FIND OUT FROM A CO-WORKER THAT HIS PARENTS WHO OWN A 2004 HONDA CRV ALSO CAUGHT ON FIRE AND WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE. THIS COUPLE IN THEIR 70'S ESCAPED UNHARMED. THEY HAD JUST HAD THEIR 1ST OIL CHANGE DAY BEFORE. I HAVE TALKED TO AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION AND THEY ASSURED ME THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CARS BUT YET THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON WEBSITES TALKING ABOUT 2004 CRV FIRES. EVEN THOUGH I WAS GIVEN A NEW CAR I AM NOW AFRAID OF IT AND WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM VERY CONCERNED IF THERE IS A PROBLEM HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS IT BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED.*AK
JUST PURCHASED A HONDA CR-V (NEW). WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FILLED UP AT THE PUMP THERE IS GAS SPILLAGE FOLLOWING THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF OF THE PUMP. THE AMOUNT IS APPROX. 2 TO 4 OZ OF FUEL. THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE AND IS ALSO AN AIR POLLUTION SOURCE. THIS SPILLAGE OCCURS EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK. THIS MUST BE CORRECTED. IS THERE CURRENTLY A RECALL??? AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM??? WILL THIS GET FIXED??? WHO SHOULD I CONTACT NEXT??? *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ENGINE STARTED SMOKING AND FLAMES BEGAN COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH CONSUMER WAS WARNED BY ANOTHER MOTORIST THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER, AND THE CONSUMER STOPPED THE ENGINE. IMMEDIATELY, THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, BUT CONTINUED TO SMOKE. ONCE THE SMOKE CLEARED CONSUMER COULD SEE THAT THE WIRES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WERE MELTED. SEVERAL NEWS PAPERS WERE RUNNING ADDS CONCERNING FAULTY OIL CHANGES BY HONDA MECHANICS.*AK
MY CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AT A RELATIVELY FLAT AREA AT THE TOP OF A HILL. WHEN I GOT IN TO START THE CAR, THE LIGHT CAME ON THAT THE TAIL GATE WAS OPEN. I WENT TO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE TO SLAM THE GATE AND THE WINDOW. WHEN I GOT AROUND TO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE CAR AND OPENED IT, I HEARD A POP AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING. I STUCK MY FOOT IN TO GET MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE OPEN DOOR KNOCKED ME DOWN AND THE CAR CONTINUED ROLLING TILL IT HIT A STONE WALL. I AM SURE THAT I HAD THE CAR IN PARK. THAT DAY I GOT A RENTAL CAR WHICH HAS THE GEAR SHIFT ON THE FLOOR. MY CAR HAS THE GEAR SHIFT ON THE DASH BOARD. FOR DAYS, EVERY TIME I STOPPED, MY HAND WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO UP TO THE DASH BOARD TO MOVE IT INTO PARK. I AM SURE I HAD THE CAR IN PARK. IT WAS NOT ROLLING WHEN I WAS STANDING BEHIND IT TO SLAM THE TAIL GATE AND WINDOW. IT WAS NOT ROLLING WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE FRONT DOOR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE "POP" WAS, BUT THAT WAS WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING. FORTUNATELY, MY INJURY WAS SLIGHT. WHEN THE DOOR KNOCKED ME DOWN, I ROLLED AWAY FROM THE CAR. THE BOTTOM OF THE OPEN DOOR BRUISED AND GOUGED THE FRONT OF MY RIGHT LEG. I DID NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL. *LA
HONDA CR-V(2004) A/C COMPRESSOR: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HWY AND IT SOUNDED AS IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE, AT THAT POINT MY A/C STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. I CONTINUED DRIVING, THINKING THAT I HAD TO GET MY A/C RECHARGED. THEN I HEARD A LOUD CLUNK, SWERVED OFF AN EXIT (MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP) AND MY CAR BEGAN SMOKING. I PULLED INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS BROKEN. THE BELT BROKE B/C THE COMPRESS HAD EXPLODED, CAUSING THE CLUTCH TO LOCK UP. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $1400. THE WHOLE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED: CONDENSER, COMPRESSOR, EXPANSION VALVE. *TR
I TOOK MY 2004 HONDA CRV IN FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE. AS THE TECHNICIAN DROVE MY CAR OUT OF THE SERVICE BAY, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WENT OUT TO MEET THE TECHNICIAN AND HE OPENED THE HOOD. SMOKE CAME POURING OUT AND WE NOTICED OIL SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ENGINE. HE SAID HE WAS NOT SURE WHY THIS HAPPENED, BUT HE WOULD CLEAN IT UP AND TAKE CARE OF IT. 30 MINUTES LATER, I HAD MY CAR BACK AND DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS.*AK
TOOK NEW 2004 HONDA CR-V INTO DEALER (BOB BARBOUR HONDA OF GREENVILLE, NC) FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE ON SATURDAY, MAY 15 2002. ON SUNDAY, WHILE DRIVING ACROSS TOWN TO CHURCH WITH MY WIFE AND TWO YOUNG CHILDREN, I NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE. I PULLED OUT OF TRAFFIC AND A MAN AT A NEARBY BUSINESS CAME RUNNING OUT YELLING THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. WE EXITED THE VEHICLE, UNBUCKLED THE CHILDREN FROM THE SAFTEY SEATS AND GOT AWAY FROM THE CAR. THE FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED TO EXTENGUISH THE FIRE. POLICE OFFICER ALSO ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. AS IT IS A SUNDAY, I HAVE NOT BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER YET TO DETERMINE HOW THEY INTEND TO CORRECT THE SITUATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *AK
ON MAY 15, I TOOK MY 2004 HONDA CRV TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE. MY DAUGHTER PICKED UP THE CAR 2 HOURS LATER AND DROVE 1-2 MILES WHEN PASSERAGES IN NEARBY CARS BEGAN BLOWING THEIR HORNS AND TELLING HER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ON FIRE. MEN IN THE CAR BEHIND CALLED THE FIRE DEPT. AND BEING MECHANICS CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS "BONE DRY." FIRE DEPT. CALLED FOR SAND TO BE LAID. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD CLEANED IT UP BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WANTED ME TO GET IN THE CAR AND FEEL SAFE ABOUT MY NEW CAR WHICH HAD 3800 MILES. THEIR ANSWER TO WHY THIS HAPPENED WAS THAT THEY HAD LEFT THE OLD OIL GASKET ON AND HAD PUT THE NEW ONE ON TOP. IT HAD BLOWN OIL OUT THE TAILPIPE. I LEFT THE CAR THERE FOR 6 WEEKS WHILE I SOUGHT LEGAL HELP, HAD INDEPENDENT MECHANICS CHECK IT OUT, SENT OIL SAMPLES AND FILTER TO INDEPENDENT LABS FOR TESTING. DURING THIS TIME I CONTACTED HONDA COPORATION, LOCAL TV STATIONS, AND MADE NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I REQUESTED A NEW CAR AND TO HAVE THE SERVICE PLAN WHICH I HAD PURCHASED TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. TWO WEEKS AGO, THE DEALERSHIP DID AGREE TO ISSUE ME A 72 MONTHS/100,000 MILE WARRANTY AND THEY DID REFUND MY SERVICE PLAN SO THAT I MAY PURCHASE IT FROM ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION NEVER TOOK ANY OWNERSHIP FOR THE SITUATION. THEY AGREED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. THIS CAUSED A LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED TO REPLACE THE OIL PUMP. *AK
THE OIL WAS CHANGED IN OUR 2004 HONDA CRV AND THEN AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THERE WAS A MASSIVE OIL LEAK CAUSING THE CAR TO SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF I270 WITH TRAFFIC WIZZING BY A SPEEDS OVER 70 MPH. MY WIFE WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR DID NOT CATCH FIRE OR THAT SHE DID NOT GET HIT FROM THE REAR.*AK
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. SHE WAS IN TOWN DOING ABOUT 30 MPH. THE FIRST INDICATION OF FIRE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. SHE STOPPED THE CAR AND GOT OUT. ANOTHER MOTORIST THAT STOPPED SAID FLAME WERE COMING OUT OF THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THE CAR WAS TOTALLED. I AM WAITING ON THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2003 - NEW. *AK
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER SPEED BUMPS, POT HOLE OR DIRT ROADS A CLANKING/POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERS. THE FIRST DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT STRUTS, REATTACHED THE FRONT BUMPER, RETIGHTENED THE ENGINE MOUNTS AND OTHER BOLTS. HOWEVER, PROBLEM RECURRED. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE IS AT THE SECOND DEALER BEING INSPECTED/REPAIRED.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT END. *TC

1. IN APRIL, 2004, I TOOK MY NEW 2004 HONDA CRV TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ITS 5,000 MILE SCHEDULED SERVICE. 2. THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE ABOUT TEN MINUTES AFTER LEAVING. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AN OFF DUTY FIRE FIGHTER PULLED OVER AND RENDERED HELP. THUS, THE ONLY MAJOR DAMAGE WAS TO THE MANIFOLD, ELECTRICAL HARNESS, HOOD ASSEMBLY AND WINDSHIELD. 3. THE DEALER ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY OIL CHANGE (THEY SHOWED ME THE DOUBLE O-RING THAT CAUSED THE INCIDENT) AND PAID FOR REPAIR AND RELATED EXPENSES. I WOULD LIKE TO COMMEND TAMPA HONDALAND FOR THEIR INTEGRITY, CONCERN AND PROFESSIONALISM. 4. I RECEIVED AN OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OF THE DEFECT TODAY FROM HONDA AND AM GLAD TO SEE THE SYSTEM WORKS. *JB
DURNING THE FIRST OIL CHANGE , THE ORIGINAL OIL FILTER GASKET STUCK TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CREATED A DOUBLE GASKET . THE NEXT MORNING WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THIS GASKET FAILED , SPRAYING OIL UNDER PERSURE ALL OVER THE HOT EXHAUST PIPE AND VERY HOT CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE OIL BURSTED INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE BALL WENT INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, AND THIS STOPPED THE OIL THAT WAS FEEDING THE FIRE. THE FIRE QUICKLY BURNED ITSELF OUT. HAD I NOT BEEN IN A DRIVING SITUATION WHERE I COULD QUICKLY PULL OVER AND GET OUT OF THE CRV , THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TOTAL DISASTER. IN THE FIRST THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE IN 2003, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE STARTED MAKING A LOUD RUBBING/GRINDING NOISE THROUGH CERTAIN BRAKE PRESSURE. OUR FIRST OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION THE NOISE STOPPED ONLY TO REAPPEAR ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR. NOISE IS THE SAME, JACOBS TWIN HAS REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY ONCE, REPLACED THE PADS ONCE AND, REFINISHED THE ROTORS ONCE. EACH TIME THE NOISE SUBSIDES FOR A PERIOD ONLY TO COME BACK WITHIN 3 MONTHS. EVERYTIME I HAVE I GO IN FOR MY OIL CHANGE I HAVE TO HAVE THE BRAKES REDONE AS WELL. PURCHASED A 2004 HONDA CR-V IN JANUARY, 2004 AND WITH ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE ON MARCH 26, 2004, BECAUSE OF THE DOUBLE-GASKET (NOT REMOVED), IT INTERNALLY LEAKED ALL FLUIDS LEAVING NO OIL IN PAN AND CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN REMOVING THE FILTER.*AK SERVICE MGR., MARK KORALLUS AND A MECHANIC CAME TO WHERE CAR HAD STOPPED, JUST A COUPLE OF BLOCKS FROM DEALERSHIP, WITH A 5 GALLON TANK OF OIL. UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE, MR. KORALLUS, INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE DOUBLE GASKET. THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO CLEAN THE MESS UP WITH 6 CANS OF BRAKE FLUID. HOW SAFE CAN THIS BE? THERE'S NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS NEGLIGENCE ON HONDA'S PART WON'T CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGES TO THE CAR IN THE FUTURE. WORSE YET, INJURIES. MY CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST ITS "NEW CAR" AFFECT AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IT'S NOT OPERATING AT ITS OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE AS HONDA SO HIGHLY PROMOTES. I HAVE LEFT SERVERAL PHONE MESSAGES FOR MR. OUR CLIENT, WILSON SANCHEZ, WAS DRIVING HIS 2004 CR-V MPV WHEN IT SLID ON ICE AND ROLLED ONTO ITS ROOF. THE REMOVABLE PICNIC TABLE, A STANDARD ACCESSORY IN THAT MODEL VEHICLE, FELL OUT OF ITS RETAINED POSITION IN THE REAR CARGO AREA AND STRUCK MR. SANCHEZ ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS HEAD BEHIND HIS EAR. ONE MONTH AGO I PURCHASED A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THIS AFTERNOON ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, I WENT TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN I DISCOVERED SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OVER THE BRAKE PEDAL. HONDA HAS PUT A PIECE OF PLASTIC UNDER THE DASH FOR SOME REASON AND DEVISED SOME RINKY DINK WAY TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THE LATCH WAS STILL IN THE LOCKED POSITION BUT IT HAD VIBRATED TO THE SIDE AND CAME LOOSE, FALLING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT FOLLOWING TO CLOSE SO I HAD TIME TO STOP BEFORE REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, BUT JUST BARELY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PULL OVER TO REMOVE THE PIECE OF PLASTIC FOR SEVERAL MORE MILES AND ONCE AGAIN, CAME CLOSE TO REAR ENDING SOMEONE BECAUSE THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC HAD FALLEN OVER THE BRAKE PEDAL. I THINK YOU NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS AND HAVE HONDA FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE HAS A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT.

DEFECT REGARDING WIRING HARNESS OF THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG BEING INCORRECTLY WIRED. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. IN ORDER TO AVOID BEING STRUCK BY AN ONGOING VAN, THE CONSUMER SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A POLE. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND SUDDENLY THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED IN RED AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE FIRE FIGHTER THAT THERE WERE NUTS AND BOLTS MISSING FROM THE ENGINE. OWNER LATER CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. FOR ONE FULL DAY ON 10/27/2003. RATTLING NOISE NOT REPAIRED. NOTHING DONE. THE NOISE STILL EXISTS. THIS NOISE IS A MAJOR DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER AND PROBABLY A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT DISTRACTS THE DRIVER. *LA
THE "PROTECTION PROPELLER SHAFT" IS INSTALLED ON THE HONDA 2004 AND 2005 CR-V INCORRECTLY. IT SERVES NO PURPOSE WITH THE WAY IT IS INSTALLED AND COULD POTENTIALLY ALLOW THE SHAFT TO FALL TO THE GROUND DURING FAILURE. *MR THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROTECTOR CANNOT PREVENT THE DRIVE SHAFT FROM FALLING TO THE GROUND IN THE EVENT OF A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE UNIVERSAL CONNECTED JOINTS. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE PART SHOULD BE EITHER INSTALLED CORRECTLY OR ELIMINATED. *JB
