TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA CR-V EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE TIRES, TIRE LINE: FR710, AND TIRE SIZE P225/65/R17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE STEERING STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIM MIGHT BE CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES WERE OUT OF ROUND AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50.
THE LETTER BELOW WAS SENT TO MR. MASAAKI TSUYA, CEO OF BRIDGESTONE ON 5/23/16. BRIDGESTONE CHOSE TO IGNORE IT MOST LIKELY BECAUSE IT KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. I URGE NHTSA TO LAUNCH A FORMAL INVESTIGATION INTO BRIDGESTONE TIRES. I AM WRITING TO YOU TO EXPRESS MY EXTREME DISAPPOINTMENT WITH THE QUALITY OF YOUR PRODUCT ' BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T TIRE. I HAVE ALWAYS REGARDED JAPANESE PRODUCTS TO BE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY IN THE WORLD. THAT IS WHY I WAS SHOCKED WHEN MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT ALL 4 TIRES OF MY HONDA CR-V 2009 ARE WORN OUT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED (SEE ATTACHMENT 1). AND MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 24,000 MILES ON IT! I STOPPED AT THE FIRESTONE LOCATION NEARBY AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT ALL 4 TIRES ARE FULLY WORN OUT AND NEED A REPLACEMENT. I DO REALIZE THAT CAR MANUFACTURERS TYPICALLY DO NOT INSTALL THE BEST TIRES ON THEIR NEW CARS. HOWEVER, I DO NOT THINK THAT ANY TIRES SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES ARE DESIGNED TO LAST LESS THAN 35,000 MILES. I ALSO HAVE TO POINT OUT THAT MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS AND THEREFORE TIRE PRESSURE FOR ALL OF THE 23,966 MILES DRIVEN WAS THE ONE SET BY HONDA FOR THESE TIRES AND FOR CR-V. I HOPE THAT BRIDGESTONE WILL STAND BEHIND THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS AND THIS UNPLEASANT ISSUE WILL BE QUICKLY RESOLVED AVOIDING ANY FURTHER ACTION ON MY PART. YOU UNDERSTAND, OF COURSE, THAT I DO NOT WANT TO RISK MY AND MY WIFE'S HEALTH AND/OR LIFE BECAUSE WORN OUT TIRES CAN CAUSE A TRAGIC ACCIDENT.
ON MY LAST 2 VISITS TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, I HAVE BEEN TALKED WITH ABOUT REPLACING MY TIRES. THE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR AND ARE THE CONTINENTAL 4X4 CONTACT M&S 225165R 17 102T. I HAVE 18,00 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT IS KEPT IN A GARAGE WHEN NOT DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE "SOFT" AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $633.60 PLUS. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE I THOUGHT TIRES LASTED A LOT LONGER THAN 18,000. I THOUGHT TIRES LASTED 50,000 TO 65,00 MILES IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES THAT ARE ON MY CAR. THIS INVOLVES MY TIRES ON MY 09 HONDA CRV. I AM THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY OWNER - TWO YEARS AGO, JULY 9,2011 I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICING AND TIRE ROTATION AND WAS ADVISED MY TIRES (ORIGINAL YOKOHAMA) WERE CHOPPY AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER AT THE TIME ONLY RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT WITH THE SAME TIRES WHICH I REFUSED AS I FELT THEY WORE PREMATURELY AND REPLACED THEM AT A TIRE DEALER WITH COOPERS. NOW, TWO YEARS ALMOST TO THE DAY, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCING AND WAS TOLD THE TIRES ARE CHOPPY AND NEED REPLACEMENT AGAIN, THIS TIME 92,000. IS THIS A DEFECT? ONE WEEK AGO PURCHAED A 2009 HONDA CRV WITH 26K MILES. HAVE HAD 2 PREVIOUS CRV'S (1999 & 2002) WE PURCHASED THE 2009, AFTER A 15 MINUTE TEST DRIVE, EVERYTHING SEEMD FINE. AFTER DRIVING FOR THE PAST WEEK, NOTICED HORRIBLE LOWER BACK PAIN, LEGS & FEET HAVING "PINS & NEEDLES" NUMB FEELING & SEAT UNCOMFORTABLE REGARDLESS OF THE MANUAL SEAT ADJUSTMENT POSITION IT IS IN, LUMBAR SUPPORT ON LOWER BACK OF SEAT PUTS TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON LOWER BACK, NO WAY TO ADJUST IT. NEVER HAD BACK PROBLEMS LIKE THIS BEFORE. SEATS ARE VERY FIRM, EVEN ADDING ADDITIONAL CUSHION OR BLANKET DOES NOT HELP. BOTTOM OF SEAT IS AT AN INCLINE, AND IT PUTS STRAIN ON KNEES / LEGS. NO ADJUSTMENT TO STRAIGHTEN SEAT LEVEL FROM INCLINE ON THE LX. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND HONDA AND THEY BOTH SAID NOTHING CAN BE DONE. HAVE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING SEATS FOR THE HONDA ACCORD & CIVIC & CRV AT WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. SEATS ARE CAUSING BACK / LEG ISSUES AND SHOULD BE RECALLED/REDESIGNED AND REPLACED BY HONDA. OTHER CRV'S WE OWNED NEVER HAD THESE PROBLEMS. HEADREST EQUALLY UNCOMFORTABLE, PUTS YOUR HEAD AT A VERY ODD POSITION, CAUSING NECK PAIN. TIRES SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE ALSO, WE WILL BE NEEDING TO REPLACE THEM SOON WITH ONLY 26K MILES, AND 3 YEARS OLD. HONDA SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT, BUT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING. AT 17000 MILES THE TIRES ARE DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO EXCESSIVE TREADWARE. AT THIS MILEAGE THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEMS, HOWEVER, NEW TIRES ARE NEEDED AND THE DEALER SAYS I HAVE TO BUY NEW TIRES. ALSO OTHER SHOPS HAVE SAID THE TIRES ARE UNSAFE AT THIS LOW MILEAGE. THIS SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS AND AM CONCERNED AS HAVE FOUND THIS AS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR A CRV. MY HONDA CRV CAME WITH CONTINENTAL 225/65R17 102T TIRES, IT HAS 28000 MILES ON IT 2 YEARS 2 MOS LATER AND THE FRONT TIRES ARE COMPLETELY BALD. THE MECHANIC CHECKED MY ALIGNMENT, THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED, AND THEY ARE EVENLY WORN. SERVICE TECH AT DEALER CONFIRMED THAT TIRE WAS BAD AND HAD CAUSED THE SHIMMYING AND VEERING TO THE RIGHT OF VEHICLE. TIRE REPLACED BY DEALER THESE TIRE WERE BRIDGESTONE DUELLERS. THIS PROBLEM HAS SIGNIFICANTLY BEEN NOTED BY OTHER CRV OWNERS AND CONFIRMED BY SEVERAL DEALERS. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS THE ONLY PLACE THAT HANDLED THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE IF THE TIRES BLEW OUT BECAUSE OF ROAD CONDITIONS OR AN UNIDENTIFIED FAILURE. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 5,000 MILES AND THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURED AT 15,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2009 CR-V EX AND HAD ISSUES WITH TPMS LIGHT COMING ON RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER A COUPLE OF TIMES AND HAD TPMS SENSORS REPLACED AND TPMS BOX. STILL THE PROBLEM PERSISTS AND BEEN USING MY CAR FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS NOW WAITING FOR HONDA TO FIX THE CAR. THERE WERE NO TSBS FOR IT AND NO FIX FOR IT. I WAS TOLD BY A REPRESENTATIVE IN A DEALER NOT TO WORRY AS I AM NOT ALONE HAVING THIS ISSUE. *TR
NEW 2009 HONDA CR-V, WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES I STARTED GETTING BAD VIBRATIONS AND CAR VEERING TO THE RIGHT AND THEN TO THE LEFT. HONDA OF OCALA TRIED TO BALANCE AND ALIGN THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES WHICH DID NOT CORRECT THE VIBRATION. FELT LIKE TIRES HAD A BALD SPOT. AFTER 3 TRIES, THEY DECIDED TO EXAMINE THE TIRES (BRIDGESTONE / DUELLER HT'S) AND FOUND THAT 2 OF THE TIRES HAD BELTS THAT SEPARATED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES IF I HAD NOT PERSISTED. THEY REPLACED THE TIRES AND A RIM WITH SAME TIRES ONLY NEW ONES. A WEEK AND A HALF LATER, CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE VIBRATIONS AND THEY AGAIN THINK IT IS THE TIRES. CAR NOW HAS 2500 MILES AND IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN TODAY. COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED WITH HONDA WHO JUST SAYS THE TIRES ARE NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, SOME WITH CRASHES AND SERIOUS INJURIES BECAUSE OF THESE TIRES. SOME HAVE REPORTED THAT THE SIDEWALLS EXPLODE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY NEW VEHICLE AND I THINK HONDA NEEDS TO STOP PUTTING THESE TIRES ON THEIR VEHICLES AND REPLACE THE ONES OUT THERE WITH DIFFERENT ONE. THIS IS A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
