The component on the right of the dash regularly does not display anything which includes fuel level, odometer/mile range, temperature, and time among other information. This has been occurring for over a year. My two biggest issues are that I can't see how much gas I have left and that the odometer isn't always viewable. The gas tank is a constant issue because I worry about getting stranded somewhere because I didn't know. You have to be incredibly careful to catch the display on the occasion it does turn on and guess as to when you need to refuel because most of the time you can't see it on the dash. The odometer is the other issue. When getting my car serviced, I've had workers unable to read the odometer and this could be a huge issue with the DMV if they can't read my mileage. I won't be able to register my car if they need to inspect my car including for an emission test. My car will fail because the dashboard doesn't display correctly.
Vehicle stalled while driving. The fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. Car was otherwise in good working condition and we had no indication anything was wrong before the vehicle stalled- only about 43000 miles on vehicle.
Car alarm keeps going off when left untouched, even when isolated in garage. After observance, the car will attempt to start itself when no one is in the car and when the car is off.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda HR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
I’m having an issue where the odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off with gibberish. Eventually it will display accurately.

*How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -YES. [XXX] Burbank, CA, intersection [XXX] and [XXX] [XXX] ) There was a huge rainfall this evening. I was heading east on [XXX] and was about to make a "U" going back opposite direction. Making sure there is no on going or opposite traffic, safely i made a "U" turn on a parking lot, the first parking spot..and some of a sudden i realised that my car was touched some obstacle. It was a street light pole but from that pole there was a supporting 45 degrees angle metal wire going across a parking spot! I was not able to see a metal wire because of a light reflection and working windshield wipers.! This metal wire went through my front of a car and cracked the front bumper, left fender i was not able to open my driver door. My speed by doing "U" turn was about 5 miles per hour.. I called to my insurance took a picture of an incident location they came up to me with an estimate $1.553.00... This is insane and might be definitely dangerous for motorcycles and scooters. I have all the pictures, and video as well. Thank you! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The dial on the dashboard that gives gas tank I do, speed and time do not light up or appear all jumbled if it is below 60 degrees outside. This is not cool.

I am writing to report a serious issue with the paint on my white pearl Honda HR-V. The roof paint began peeling in 2023, and I initially attempted a minor repair using a paint pen from AutoZone. However, the problem has worsened significantly over the past six months. Recently, I took the vehicle to Maaco for an estimate, and they quoted approximately $2,400 to repaint the roof and side panels. I also contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they confirmed that I had purchased an extended warranty which expired in October 2024. After researching the issue, I discovered that paint peeling is a common and widely reported problem for white pearl Honda models. I spoke with both American Honda and the dealership on July 2025, and while the Honda representative acknowledged that they are receiving many similar complaints, they stated that the company is still investigating the root cause and does not currently offer compensation. They classified the issue as normal wear and tear. I keep my vehicle well maintained, and it is only 8 years old. I strongly believe this is a manufacturing defect, not a result of neglect or environmental wear. I would like to formally file a complaint and request that Honda take responsibility for this issue. Thank you for your time and attention. I can provide additional photographs, repair estimates, and additional documentation upon request.
The HR-V is four years old, and in the past month, the LCD display, which shows the driver the current fuel level, current miles per gallon, and, most importantly, the odometer, has intermittently stopped working and gone completely blank while driving (see photo attached). The display sometimes stays off for ten or more minutes before showing gibberish numbers that do not correspond to the proper odometer, temperature, and miler per gallon readings. I reported the incident to the local Honda dealership during my normal tune up, but they were not able to reproduce the issue. There are an abundance of online Honda forums where this same issue is reported. This is an obvious defect with 2018 Honda HR-Vs. This is a safety concern as this problem can lead to the odometer not properly recording the accurate miles driven and may not accurately be showing the driver how much fuel is left. There are no other warning lamps or other symptoms of the problem other than it happens most often when the temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Dangerous image quality of backup camera: The red arrow in the attached picture (taken at night and in light rain) points to the wheel of a vehicle. Looking only the camera's image, you would never know that it was there. Making matters worse, the display emits a very bright, white, low contrast image that blinds you. This prevents you from seeing anything in the side-view mirrors. While in REVERSE the brightness setting of the display has no effect, its always full brightness. The display cannot be turned off while in REVERSE. When backing up in the rain, you are only guessing where you are headed. Camera image in dry, daylight conditions is poor as well . It's been this way since I purchased the car in 2022. Back then, dealer said that it looked normal to them. I've backed into a car on one occasion doing only minimal damage.
Fuel gauge screen goes out completely and randomly shows up glitches. Serious safety concern because you're unable to determine the fuel you have left in your tank. Also, unable to determine your vehicle mileage and trip mileage. Unable to determine the engine oil life and the maintenance minder.
Fuel gauge instrument will sometimes show jumbled letters/numbers or be completely blank. Upon driving for a while it will go back to normal. Not able to recreate on command so the dealership will not help me other than charge me to look at it without guarantee they will fix it since they won’t be able to recreate it. I looked online many people are also complaining about this issue and had to have the instrument cluster replaced. I do not want to pay for someone to just look at it and not fix the issue. The car doesn’t even have 2000 miles on it yet, this has to be a factory issue or something. I am concerned that it will just stop working and that is not safe since I won’t be able to determine the fuel level.
The differential broke. I was unable to accelerate on the road; it froze up. I had to pull over and couldn't drive it. I was just outside of the HOnda dealer when it happened. I took it to the Honda Dealer Service Center in MD and this was their diagnosis.I didn't take it anywhere else. There were no warnings except I heard rattling when I was at a lower speed the same afternoon about 3 hours earlier. Otherwise, I had just completed a 100k service literally 2 weeks beforehand at Honda Service and the Honda Service Center didn't report anything wrong with the car.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for Technical Service Bulletin: 19-064. While at the dealer, the front windshield cracked. The vehicle was repaired. The contact became aware that the repair was completed with an aftermarket windshield. The contact stated that there was water leaking around the windshield. There was no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted again, but the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
On 8/10/2023, around 9:25 AM, at the parking lot of Jet Propulsion Laboratory, 4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena, CA, I was pulling into a parking spot, moving very slowly. I was about to stop when the car suddenly took off in full speed, went over the concrete barrier toward hilly area covered with shrubs. That impact stopped the car, but half of my car was in the shrubs. It happened so fast that I didn't have a chance to break or anything. The car went into the shrub where nobody or no other car was around. Please see the attached photos. The bumper on the drive side is damaged and the car suffered some scratches and small broken parts. Prior to this incident, we experienced some minor incidents such as : - Car would not start at the first try and we had to try multiple times. We took the car to the dealer we purchased the vehicle and they replaced battery. Even after the replacement of the battery, it occurred couple more times. - Speaker announced to release the parking break when it was released and I was driving the car already. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. - The window on the front driver side gets sticky sometimes if left overnight. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. We took the car to the dealer again this morning (8/11/2023) and talked to the service representative. She looked at our record and we found out some of or complaints were not recorded. The contact stated that the dealer found that the electronic brake switch was turned on with no indication that it was on. The disc brake pads were also replaced since they were worn out.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda HR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the vehicle was having near stalling failures. The contact stated that the vehicle was losing motive power but then operated normally after several seconds. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but was a recurring failure that occurred while driving at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The dealer wanted to run a diagnostic on the vehicle, the contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Roof and pillar paint peeling
I left my car in the Fort Lauderdale airport parking garage for one week. When I came back from vacation the car started, pulled out of the spot and then refused to move. I had to have it towed for $700 all the way to my home in palm beach gardens. 52 miles at 7pm. This happened in July of 2023 and there is still no parts available to replace the faulty fuel pump.
The odometer/gas gauge was shorting out, coming on sometimes and showing partial characters others. It would not come on and stay on as intended. Without the gas gauge it was near impossible to know when the gas had been depleted and I was unable to get the car inpescted without the odometer showing due to the mechanic needing to photograph the mileage for the inspection.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 20 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 95,861.
Every honda I have had, civic, accord, Hrv, have had issues with the driver side sun visor. It will not stay up and it makes seeing out the windshield an issue. Also the rearview mirror developed black marks going across a big one portion of the bottom part of the mirror. Making it difficult to see everything.
Fuel monitoring systems on dashboard going on and off while driving
Engine suddenly lost power on highway 5 times in last 6 months and would not restart for approximately 12 hours. To lose power at 75 mph on a busy highway risks accidents and injury to driver, passengers, and potentially other drivers on the road. Tow truck drivers and passengers are witnesses to this happening. We have had it towed to the dealer each time and they cannot find any problem. No warning prior to the problem.
Cluster gauge shuts off in cold weather. This gauge has the odometer and gas gauge.
The instrument panel with the odometer and gas gauge goes out completely at random times. Before the panel goes dark, the display flickers chaotically. I always note the issue to the dealership when I service my car. On the 2nd occasion, I was told the entire panel would have to be replaced at a cost of $1800. I told the service tech that I could not afford that expense. His recommendation was to bang on an area close to the display with my fist to get it to reappear. He actually demonstrated how to do it. The Honda Dealerships are aware of the problem and admit it’s a manufacturing design flaw. I have tolerated this for several years thinking Honda would offer compensation for the problem. However, yesterday when it was working, an alert appeared in the middle of the display about an issue with my fuel cap. I’m aware that the fuel cap issue is related to a recall, but if the display had not been working I wouldn’t have seen the alert because I wasn’t aware that alerts appear on that display and I realize now that I can miss an urgent alert. To me that’s a huge safety issue! I’ve seen hundreds of complaints online about this, and I know it’s caused by cracks in the solder. I would like for Honda to be accountable and let customers have this repaired at no charge.
1. The dealership assembled a new engine and pulse control module. 2. 1st issue was the car wasn’t in safe condition to drive due to knocking noise. 2nd issue is that the pedal wasn’t working properly as had to pull over to the shoulder and then the car wouldn’t leave from a parked state, brake light was on, and engine overheating. 3rd issue got car back with a smoke/cigarette/burn odor and jittering / stuttering when put in a stopped state transitioning to a moving state. 3. Yes, Bill Page Honda in Falls Church. 4. Yes 5. No warning prior to failure 07/28/22: car experienced loud knocking noise upon being turned on and got it towed to dealership on 07/29/22. Dealership got a new engine for the 1st issue and I picked up the car in September 2022 but upon driving it for the first time since the 1st issue, experienced pedal not functioning to accelerate and engine overheating causing me to get car towed back to dealership on 09/20/22. 10/02/22 picked up the car from the dealership and I noticed a burn / smoke odor left on the car. Let me be clear that neither I nor anyone who has stepped foot in my vehicle smokes so this was quire alarming. Also, while driving it I noticed my car started to jerk / stutter / hesitate whenever it was in a non-moving position transitioning to a moving position. 10/10/22 I returned my car back to the dealership due to the 3rd issue regarding the odor and jittering / stuttering issue. 11/30/22 picked up the car as the dealership informed me the car was ready with the issues resolved, however upon getting the car back and driving it back home I experienced the same issues and they didn’t resolve the odor problem. Even after the fact of bringing it to the dealership for the past 4 months, more issues keep surfacing making it more and more dangerous to handle my vehicle and I’m not trustworthy of it nor my dealership that’s been attempting to resolve issues under my active car warranty.
Flashing light park & red check engine appeared. Car would not move & was jerking & lunging forward. Stopped on road with heavy traffic & very concerned for my safety.
THE PAINT ON THE ROOF IS PEELING AND GROWS BIGGER BY THE DAY...
The contact owns a 2018 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start immediately. The contact stated that the vehicle started after several attempts. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed as alternator failure. The alternator was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact researched online and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V314000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer was notified of the information however, the contact was informed that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
A 27 mph head on collision. Drivers side door does not open. Approximately 6,500.00 worth of damage. Not 1 airbag deployed. Driver was wearing seat belt. The car is approx. 4 yrs old. well maintained. Inspected not long before the accident. I am very concerned at 27mph head on collision the air bags do not deploy, At what speed will they?? Or will they deploy at all? The HR-V has a 5 star rating. I will not even give my honda a 1/2 star at this point
Display console does not come on. After driving for about an hour, it comes on. It’s been going on for over a year.
Instrument panel periodically fails to display fuel information. Panel will either turn off entirely or flash in random patterns. At worst, this results in not knowing how much fuel is left in the vehicle (and not even being able to see a low gas warning), which could lead to running out of gas in unsafe situations. The odometer and warning display text indicators are also affected, which are potential safety hazards. Other non-essential functions (outside temperature, trip meter, clock, and instant fuel economy) are also affected. The problem was confirmed by a dealership, but has not been inspected by police or an insurance representative. There were no messages or symptoms prior to the failure, which began occurring around 3 years after purchase of the vehicle. The first time I documented the failure was March of 2022.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster was randomly flickering off and on and sometimes became inoperable. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. During the failure, the fuel gauge and engine temperature gauge could not be viewed by the driver. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 18,000.
While at a stop light, we heard a very loud popping sound that came from above us. We instantly got out of the car and realized that the sunroof exploded. It seemed out of no where. There was a very large hole in the sunroof and there were pieces of glasswork everywhere.
While driving sometimes I would have to step harder than normal on the brakes to get the vehicle to slow down for some reason felt like it wasn't responding well. I feel the fuel pump isn't running properly. When I was at a stop light and even while driving several time I would accelerate and would feel like it wasn't reasoning to me pressing on the gas pedal. Please help get this fixed almost crashed!! Multiple times.
