There are 50 owner-reported electrical system complaints for the 2019 Honda HR-Vin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Started vehicle this morning and part of led digital dash cluster display (odometer, fuel, temperature, trip, miles) goes blank and wouldn't recover. Shut down and restarted and lcd display then had glitches where it wouldn't display correctly, partially incomplete. According to forums and Google searches, this is a known problem due to honda bad solder joints (also dealer admit on a post). Bad as mileage would not be recorded/updated during glitch. Need manufacturer repair/replace under recall due to possible federal issue.
The instrument panel with the fuel and mileage on it would go black or keep going back and forth to the original car code while I am driving. Next, the screen for my radio would shut down on me and restart itself while I am on the highway. Lastly, when I turn on my exterior lights at night, my interior lights that come on for me to see all the buttons went out for some of the buttons. The safety of myself and others was put at risk because the car could have shut down whenever someone was driving it. I took it to a Honda dealership and they did a diagnostic and the immediate attention result was Internal Electric Failure. But Honda Corporate declined to help me with repair assistance.
Vehicle experienced critical ignition system failure while parked - the engine would not turn off despite repeated attempts over 20 minutes. The vehicle has a communication failure between the ignition switch and the Body Control Module/Keyless Access Unit, creating a stuck electronic latch circuit (B12D3 latch error). This is consistent with Honda TSB 20-116. The keyless start system warning appeared on the dashboard. Unable to shut down the vehicle through normal means, I was forced to manually pull the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and then disconnect the battery while the engine was still running. This created an extremely dangerous situation requiring me to work in the engine compartment with live electrical systems. The vehicle lacks proper failsafe shutdown mechanisms. This communication failure and stuck ignition circuit poses serious safety risks including fire hazard, carbon monoxide poisoning if in enclosed space, and electrical system damage. No officially stated emergency stop solutions had worked for this vehicle included the triple press and long press.
Odometer display issue-I’m having an issue where the odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off.
The instrument cluster "flickers" due to a bad connection. This cluster contains the odometer, fuel gauge, and other vehicle information. It does not work at all when the outdoor temperature is cold. I took this to my Honda dealer and they state it was a bad connection and I would have to pay to replace the whole cluster for $1800. This is unacceptable and Honda should have to fix this as it is a known problem - this has the potential to cause an accident for someone to run out of gas in busy traffic. And not being able to see the odometer/mileage or oil life indicator is not acceptable. This has been a life of the car problem which has gotten worse and is no longer working no matter the outside temperature.
The digital instrument cluster in this 2019 Honda HR-V suddenly failed, resulting in the loss of the speedometer, odometer, and dashboard display functions. The failure occurred without warning and is not due to wear, misuse, or routine maintenance. Operating the vehicle without a functioning speedometer or odometer presents a serious safety risk, including potential speeding, traffic violations, and accidents. Other warning indicators integrated into the digital display may also be inaccessible, further compounding the safety hazard. Honda has diagnosed the problem and quoted a repair cost of $2,166.08. Goodwill assistance was previously denied in my case, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty and not subject to a recall. The vehicle is regularly used to transport family members, including a pregnant passenger (due March 2026). Continued operation in this condition is unsafe and unacceptable. The fuel gauge on the right hand side malfunctions in cold/wet weather, causing information such as distance until empty, to become illegible. When this happens, the display also flickers rapidly, which may be problematic to some with epilepsy. The entire odometer and fuel display on the right flickers with random characters and goes dark for long periods of time. Not knowing how much fuel seems to be a problem? Took it to the dealer and they indicated this is a common problem but have no remedies.
I bought this car new in 2019. It was never in an accident. While driving normally, the car started throwing warnings saying the lane keep assist has a problem, the collision mitigatuon system hhas a peoblem, the auto high beams have a problem, the road departure system has a problem. I paid Honda in Surprise AZ $210 for a diagnosis and they told me that it needs a new U3000-49 Multipurpose camera unit will cost $1,730 to replace and install and possibky another $1,420 for a new SRS unit. The car was never in an accident, and both of these should not be breaking after just 5 years of ownership. Clearly the multipurpose camera unit and also likely the srs are defective and should be recalled.
The odometer display/gas gauge goes blank for long periods of time while driving. When I took it to the dealer, they said, “Oh yes that is an HRV thing,” so they have seen this before clearly. It is a safety concern to not be able to see the odometer and gas gauge to know when fuel needs to be replaced in the vehicle.
I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so i drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these hondas have transmission issue
I’m writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with the instrument cluster on my 2019 Honda HR-V. Specifically, the far-right section of the cluster — which includes the odometer and fuel gauge — frequently flickers or fails to display entirely. This makes it extremely difficult to monitor fuel levels or mileage, and I’m particularly concerned that the odometer may not be accurately recording the vehicle’s true mileage. After researching this issue, I’ve found that this is a well-documented problem among HR-V owners, with many attributing the failure to cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. These cracks are believed to result from thermal expansion and contraction, exacerbated by the use of lead-free solder, which is more brittle than traditional alternatives. Given that this issue stems from a design and manufacturing decision — not from any misuse or neglect on my part — I feel strongly that this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect.
Electrical component that controls that stereo and dashboard are going out, almost $2000 to replace this. It controls what indicates the quantity of gas and any safety related information, such as the check engine light, to me as the driver. Without this, I could put people at risk by completely losing gas, since I can’t even track my milage either, as well as possibly causing a safety risk to myself and my family if the car has any safety issues going on, as I wouldn’t know until I took it to the shop.
Vehicle fuel gauge intermittently operates to the point where the fuel gauge goes completely blank, the issue worsens with the onset of cold weather. Dealer will not repair as a defect and estimated a 1500.00 repair price. This condition can become especially dangerous when operator unable to ascertain fuel level, especially on high speed roadways where vehicle can become disabled due to low fuel levels and vulnerable to being struck by other vehicles. A web based search reveals this is a common customer complaint for this vehicle.
Gas gauge and mileage odometer lighted area blink Amon and off and sometimes go out completely for any length of time. Seems more so in colder temperatures
Speedometer, fuel gauge, mileages, Temperature, not showing up on the dashboard! It’s dark when the car it start up! Just dark screen on the odometer side. It’s start blinkering when you drive for while. It’s happened to the las 3 years and getting worse this year. It’s happened every morning and fewer times in the evening.
8/9/24 was the first time we noticed the gas/mileage gauge disappearing. It would do this almost everyday for no apparent reason leaving the driver (usually my teenage daughters) not knowing how much gas they had left. This particular disappearance happens on a regular basis which is quite concerning not knowing how much gas you have left. Also on 8/23/24 a light came on that said check fuel cap along with the yellow check engine light, yellow parking brake and flashing park symbol. These lights stayed on minus the fuel cap light for about 3 weeks. They have disappeared with now with only the issue of the disappearing fuel/mileage gauge remaining an off/on issue (but as stated above usually on a daily basis.) We replaced the fuels cap in case there was an issue and also took it to a Honda dealership on 9/27/24. They didn't check diagnostics as the other icons had turned off, but the gas gauge was still missing. They said it wouldn't show codes since the icons were missing. I also called the Honda corporation regarding this safety issue as there are multiple reports of this happening to others on several Honda forums with Honda HRV ranging from 2016-2020. It usually happens in this manner with the fuel gauge disappearing first then other icons coming off/on.
The car does not have pickup when attempting to accelerate. Driver must drop the gear down to try and force acceleration. Vehicle was taken to dealership and dealer wanted to charge to diagnose the problem. When it was stated that symptoms mimic those outlined in recall, dealer stated they still need to diagnose to see if the repair is needed. After checking dealer claims debris was blocking the pedal and the problem is not related to recall. However, the pedal was clear of any debris and still drives with loss of power when trying to accelerate.
Vehicle gives false brake alert with no obstacle ahead causing car to suddenly brake. This happens multiple times and regularly.
The gauge cluster display will go in and out. There is apparently a faulty solder joint that gets affected in cold weather and until the car is warmed up the gauge cluster stays blank. I was informed that I need a new one at the cost of $1800+ for a 2019 HRV with 24000 miles. It seems very wrong that this part has failed.
