On 6/12/2022, minutes after exiting 45 miles of highway driving, I parked the car. Less than 90 seconds after parking, the left front tire experienced an explosive loss of air pressure. An approx 2" x 1-1/2" piece of the sidewall near the tread was missing, and the reinforcing belt inside the tire was torn. It was the inside (engine side) sidewall. There was no apparent damage from any road hazard that could have contributed to the failure. Could not find the missing sidewall section. The General Altimax 235/65R16 103T tires were purchased new on 6/1/2022 with 200,583 miles on the vehicle. Failure occurred at 217,525 miles. The tire was replaced by the original seller (Belle Tire, New Hudson, MI), who now have the tire. They also inspected for previous damage and found none. Availability for inspection unknown. Belle Tire reps indicate that this is a very unusual failure and will be reporting to manufacturer. No other entities have inspected the failed tire. No warnings/symptoms present prior to the explosion. The DOT number on the failed tire is 6546 WBMH. It is notable that the other 3 identical tires on the vehicle have four additional digits (e.g. 6546 WMBH 0421) following the letter code, which Belle Tire said was the manufacture date of the tire. (0421 would be the 4th week of 2021). The failed tire lacked this information. Obviously, my wife and I were very lucky that this failure did not occur while driving on the highway as it almost certainly would have resulted in a loss of control at high speed.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY LX, . TWO OF THE TPMS TRANSMITTERS ARE NOW LEAKING AROUND THE STEM, CAUSING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. IS THERE A RECALL OF THESE TRANSMITTERS? THE INFORMATION ON THE TRANSMITTERS FROM ONE THAT WAS REPLACED IS: TRW 42753-SHJ-A820-M1 315 MHZ 217652-110 >PPA-GF33< 8D06923A 2399T IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT A DEVICE MEANT TO WARN OF A HAZARD IS ACTUALLY CAUSING A HAZARD, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE FORCED TO HAVE THESE DEVICES ON OUR CARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE TURNING LEFT, THE TIRES EMITTED A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEEL RUBBED AGAINST A PLASTIC PANEL SHIELD THAT LOOSENED AND HANGED FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55-60 MPH A FLAT OCCURRED. MY WIFE PULLED OVER AFTER ABOUT 200 YARDS. I ARRIVED A FEW MINUTES LATER. LOOKING AT THE TIRE AND RIM, IT IS APPARENT THAT A HARD OBJECT BOTH PUNCTURED AND DAMAGED THE RIM. THIS IS NOT THE POINT OF CONCERN AS IT SEEMS CUSTOMARY FOR A FLAT TIRE. HOWEVER, TWO LARGE (15X3 INCH) PIECES OF THE RIM BROKE OFF. THIS SEEMED EXTREMELY UNUSUAL AFTER SUCH A PUNCTURE AND SHORT FOLLOWUP DRIVE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN AWARE OF SUCH AN OCCURRENCE. WHEN I CALLED THE HONDA DEALER, THE SERVICE PERSON HAD NOT HEARD OF IT EITHER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN ENERGY LX4 TIRES, SIZE 235/65/R16V DOT (AP46 CTXX 3709). THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND NOTICED THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,039. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED.
AFTERMARKET AUTOMOTIVE RIMS FAILED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS OF NORMAL DRIVING. MODA MD9 OR MD9610 WERE LISTED AS A RECOMMENDED WINTER DRIVING RIM BY A LARGE ONLINE RETAILER OUT OF SOUTH BEND INDIANA. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME NOTICED STRONG VIBRATION ISSUES. AN APPROVED TIRE INSTALLER REVIEWED THE RIMS AND STATED ALL 4 RIMS WERE EGG SHAPED AND COULD NOT BE BALANCED. RIM RUNOUT SPECS OUT OF RANGE. EGG SHAPED CONDITION CREATES STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AND AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. RETAILER THROUGH THEIR PRODUCT SUPPORT, DENIED ANY PRODUCT ISSUES AND STATED THE ONLY WAY WHEELS COULD HAVE DEFORMED WAS THROUGH ABNORMAL USE. ALL 4 RIMS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH THE SAME MODEL AND HAVE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT RIMS USED ON THIS HONDA ODYSSEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES OVER SEVERAL YEARS OF USE.
