TL*- THE CONTACT SAID THAT HER ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. SHE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. AFTER A MONTH THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON BUT ENGINE WOULDN'T CRANK. A MECHANIC STATED THAT SHE NEEDED A CRANK SHAFT.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SWAY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT HAD ALL FOUR SHOCKS AND STRUTS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130000.
GAS GAUGE IS NOT READING CORRECTLY. GAS TANK HOLDS 21.2 GALLONS, YET WHEN THE GAUGE READS 1/4, IT ONLY TAKES 8 GALLONS TO FILL. DO A 360 TURN, THE GAUGE GOES FROM AN INDICATED 1/2 FULL TO EMPTY, THEN LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. AS I STRAIGHTEN OUT THE GAUGE TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO RECOVER. I FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CLASS OF AUTOMOBILE. ISUZU RODEO, AMIGO, AND OTHER HONDA PASSPORTS, 1998 TO PRESENT. I'VE BEEN QUOTED BETWEEN $500 - $700 TO FIX. FROM MY RESEARCH, THE FIX MAY LAST ONLY 30K MILES. *JB
MAJOR AUTOMOTIVE REPAIRS PERFORMED BY DEALERSHIP WHERE PERFORMANCE LEVELS OF WORK COMPLETED ARE UNSATISFACTORY WORKMANSHIP. POWER STEERING, STEERING LINKAGE, TIE ROD ASSEMBLY, INCOMPLETE CAM BEARING REPLACEMENT RESULTING TO ENGINE FAILURE, AND ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES. OTHER SERVICES NOT PERFORMED OR NON-REQUESTED SERVICES PERFORMED WERE ONLY TO INCREASE REVENUE. BE ADVISED ONCE DONE, AMERICAN HONDA REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONSUMER BEFORE OR AFTER REMOVAL OF VEHICLE FROM DEALERSHIP. OWNER WAS FORCED TO DISCONTINUE SERVICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, REQUEST THE CAR TO BE REASSEMBLED AND ELECTED ALTERNATIVE SERVICES PERFORMED ELSEWHERE. CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA IN CALIFORNIA AND RECEIVED UNSUPPORTIVE AND CAVALIER EFFORTS RESOLVING ANY OR ALL ISSUES WITH SERVICES PERFORMED IN A 6-MONTH PERIOD. (THIS IS PROBABLY THE REASON WHY HONDA ONLY OFFERS SHORT-TERM VEHICLE WARRANTIES). AMERICAN HONDA HAS NOT MADE ANY EFFORT OR ATTEMPT TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS... UNFORTUNATELY; I AM NOT A PARTICIPANT OF A RACING TEAM WHERE THEY HAVE APPARENT INFLUENCE. CASE NUMBER(S) AND CASE MANAGERS?? HAVE LITTLE OR NO REGARD FOR THE CUSTOMERS AND ALL DEALERSHIPS SEEM TO WORRY ABOUT IS THE MONETARY VALUES IN REVENUE. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS A LOYAL HONDA OWNER FOR 22 YEARS, AND HONDA STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT IN THE PAST. WITHIN THE PAST 6 YEARS, HONDA HAS RECEIVED ENORMOUS PUBLICITY ABOUT THEIR AUTOMOBILES, UNFORTUNATELY, HONDA HAS DISREGARDED THEIR PAST, PRESENT CUSTOMERS WHEN PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE OCCURS. UNTIL THE CUSTOMER REALIZES THE DEALERSHIP OR AMERICAN HONDA DID NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE RESOLVING CAR PROBLEMS IN OR OUT OF WARRANTY, CONSUMERS HAVE NO RECOURSE WHILE OR UNTIL INVOLVING THE GOVERNMENT OR COURTROOM. AMERICAN HONDA WILL CONTINUALLY SWEEP CONSUMER COMPLAINTS WITH CERTAIN VEHICLES UNDER THE RUG. *NM
HONDA PASSPORT 2000: CONTINUOUS FAILURE OF THE GAS SENSOR IN THE GAS TANK. EXPENSIVE PROCEDURE TO FIX AND I HAVE ALSO BEEN ADVISED BY DEALER THAT THE REPAIR IS COSTLY AND NOT EFFECTIVE. BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE OBC TO "CHECK ENGINE" CAR ALWAYS FAILS STATE EMISSIONS TEST. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED AND THE USED CAR DEALER COULD NOT EVEN EXPLAIN THE ERROR AT FIRST. THE CAR IS MADE BY IZUZU AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ALSO WITH THE RODEO'S A RECALL NEEDS TO BE MADE AS I AM SURE MANY CARS ARE FAILING THE EMISSIONS TEST AS WELL AS RUNNING OUT OF GAS, WHILE DRIVING, BECAUSE THE SENSOR FAILS. *JB
BOUGHT NEW 2000 HONDA PASSPORT (ISUZU RODEO) OCTOBER 2001. JULY 2002, APPROXIMATELY 11K MILES STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE, DESCRIBED TO MECHANICS AS CLUNKING,BANGING, NOISE & IN REVERSE,VEHICLE HESITATED. (I HAVE CONCERNS DOCUMENTED)REPORTED PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES BUT TOLD COULD NOT DUPLICATE."THEN,NOV 2004,PREVIOUSLY CONDITIONS WORSENED & TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 45K MI. TOWED TO MIKE'S TRANSMISSION WHO INSTALLED REPLACEMENT TRANS. WEEK LATER GOT VEHICLE & WITH IN A MONTH,TRANS LIGHT CAME ON & CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. HAVE HAD TO TAKE CAR IN ALMOST EVERY MONTH TO GET TRANSMISSION FIXED,AT LEAST 10X IN LESS THAN 1 YR. I WAS TAKEN OUTSIDE BY ONE MECHANIC & TOLD I SHOULD TRADE CAR IN B/C PASSPORTS "ALL HAVE THIS PROBLEM" & THEY KEEP "REPLACING DEFECTIVE PARTS" IN MY VEHICLE WITH NEW DEFECTIVE PARTS". COUPLE DAYS LATER, THE TRANS LIGHT CAME BACK ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO MILLER HONDA & PAID FOR A 2ND OPINION & WAS TOLD TRANS WAS SHOT & FLUID IN TRANS WAS "BURNT".CALLED MIKE'S & THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANS AGAIN. A FEW DAYS LATER,GOT VEHICLE BACK. LAST THURSDAY,LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER RECEIVING NEW TRANSMISSION WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY IN FAR LEFT LANE AT 70 MPH & LOST ALL POWER FROM GAS PEDAL TO ENGINE. CARS SPEEDING PAST ME AS I UNCONTROLLABLY LOST SPEED. MANEUVERED ACROSS 5 LANES & EXITED. FRIDAY, FOUND OUT FLEX PLATE/FLY WHEEL SEVERED,CONNECTS ENGINE TO,GUESS WHAT,TRANSMISSION!3 MECHANICS TALKED TO NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE,EXTREMELY UNUSUAL.SO UNUSUAL THAT WARRANTY CO WON'T COVER B/C THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT,NOR IS IT LISTED ANYWHERE IN THEIR BOOKS. SO,TO HAVE A VEHICLE,COST IS $1,766. I'M SO UNBELIEVABLY UPSET I'VE BEEN SITTING AT HOME,WITH NO TRANSPORTATION,CRYING. IS IT UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 3 YEARS?(BOUGHT VEHICLE 10/01, TRANS FAILED 11/04)MECHANICS CAN'T BELIEVE TRANS FAILED AT 45K MI (HAD BEEN COMPLAINING OF PROBLEMS AS EARLY AS 11K MI)NUMEROUS PEOPLE WHO OWN RODEO/PASSPORT HAVE SAME PROBLEM.WHAT'S NECESSARY FOR HONDA/ISUZU RECALL THIS VEHICLE?*JB
THE CD PLAYER IS INTERMITTENT. IT'S NOT SKIPPING LIKE A NORMAL CD-ROM SKIP, INSTEAD WE GET AN ERROR 3 OR ERROR 1 ON THE DISPLAY. WHEN THIS OCCURS DURING A SONG THE MUSIC STOPS COMING OUT OF THE SPEAKERS BUT WHEN MUSIC DOES START UP AGAIN IT IS AT THE SAME POINT IT WOULD BE IF THE SONG WERE PLAYING. FOR EXAMPLE, IF A SONG HAS JUST STARTED AND THE SPEAKERS GO QUIET FOR 15 SECONDS, THE SONG CONTINUES FROM THAT POINT ONWARD. SOME DISKS JUST STOP AND JAM. THIS IS THE THIRD REPLACEMENT CD PLAYER WE HAVE RECEIVED FOR THIS VEHICLE.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES ON DRY ROAD SURFACE ABS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ENGAGE ITSELF FROM 10-0 MPH AND CAUSE THE BRAKES TO MOMENTARY LOCK UP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH IF THIS ISSUE CONTINUED. *AK WHEN DECREASING SPEED TO 15 MPH OR LOWER THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BEGIN TO PUSH BACK AND TREMBLE. THERE WOULD ALSO BE A SPRING LIKE NOISE WHICH WOULD SOUND LIKE THE ABS WHEN ENGAGED IN WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE REAR WIPERS WERE INOPERATIVE. ALSO WHEN THE DEFROST WAS ON, THE VEHICLE IDLE WOULD GO UP EXTREMELY HIGH, THEN DROP, STALL OUT AND SOMETIMES THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE WHEN DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. *SC *JB
MY HUSBAND WENT OFF THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OVER 70 MPH, HIT A FENCE AND THREE TREES. THE LAST TREE WAS HEAD ON COLLISION, AS WAS THE FENCE PRIOR TO THE TREE. THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ON EITHER THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDES OF THE CAR. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN A WRECK, THE CAR IS TOTALLED AND THIS IS A BIG CONCERN!*AK
THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT LOCKED UP. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MOVE WHILE SEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *JB THE SEAT BELT LOCKS UP WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING, AND SOMETIMES SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS INFROMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE SEAT BELT. *SC
8/12/2004 2000 HONDA SOLD AT APPLE HONDA AS A CLEAN CAR NO HITS 2 DAYS LATTER I FOUND OUT THAT THE CAR WAS HIT THERE IS OVER $4000 IN REPAIRS NEED TO MAKE THE CAR DESIRABLE AND OR CLOSE TO WHAT I PAID FOR IT I AM TOLD THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT BY AMERICAN HONDA THIS CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD FOR OVER $140000 . *AK
FAILURE OF SENSOR ON TRANSMISSION TO PUT CAR INTO GEAR. *AK
THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS INCIDENTS, BUT AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS THAT SICK IN MY MIND. THE FEELING THAT MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN REAR ENDED, LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, NO CAR BEHIND ME. I HAD MY TRUCK IN THE SHOP AT WALT'S AUTOMOTIVE ON AUBURN BLVD. AT LEAST TWO IF NOT THREE TIMES AND TOLD THEM THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. FINALLY, IN JANUARY I PUT MY TRUCK IN THE SHOP AT DON HILL AUTOMOTIVE. THEY DROVE THE TRUCK, TOLD ME THERE WAS A BAD TRANSMISSION LEAK, AND HAD IT SEND TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP THEY USE. I WAS TOLD BY THE TRANSMISSION SHOP THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS "FRIED" AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS TOO FAR GONE TO BE REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY $3,000 IF NOT MORE TO REPAIR IT. DON HILL AUTOMOTIVE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE MY ENGINE WAS GETTING READY TO THROW A ROD. I CONTACTED BOTH THE LOCAL HONDA AND ISUZU TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS. I WAS TOLD THERE WASN'T. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY DON HILL AUTOMOTIVE THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS, SUCH AS THE FLAP THAT EITHER KEEP THE ENGINE COOL OR ENABLES THE ENGINE TO WARM UP WAS STUCK OPEN,AND THAT WOULD COST APPROX. $260.00 TO REPAIR. AT THAT POINT IN TIME I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD COST MORE TO REPAIR THE TRUCK THEN IT WAS WORTH. IT HAS 84,000 MILES ON IT. I EXPECTED TO GET AT LEAST TWICE THAT MUCH BEFORE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. HELP!!! ARE THERE ANY RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM? RIGHT NOW MY TRUCK IS JUST PARKED WHERE I LIVE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. IT HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE JANUARY
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED OIL LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. CONSUMER ADDED ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 500-600 MILES. *AK
THE SENDING UNIT ON THE FUEL GAUGE OF MY 2000 HONDA PASSPORT IS FAULTY. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PART FOR 98-99 PASSPORT/RODEO'S, BUT NOT ONE FOR THE 2000 MODEL YEAR WHICH HAS THE EXACT SAME UNIT AND SHOULD BE AFFECTED BY THE SAME RECALL.*AK
FUEL SENDING UNIT MALFUNCTIONS CASUING LOW/INCORRECT READING ON FUEL GAUGE AND ENGINE LIGHT WARNING.*AK
I BOUGHT A NEW HONDA PASSPORT 2000 IN SEPTEMBER, 2000. AFTER THREE AND A HALF YEARS, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED LEAKING AND THE CAR SHOOK WHILE AUTOMATICALLY CHANGING GEAR. I SENT IT TO A HONDA DEALER FOR REPAIR, BUT IT STILL LEAKED AND SHOOK AFTER THE REPAIR. I THEN SENT IT TO ANOTHER TRANSMISSION SHOP. THE SHOP SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS MADE BY GM, AND THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION HAD A LONG HISTORY OF DEFECTIVENESS. IT NEEDED TO BE OVERHAULED. THIS HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER THE 3-YEAR WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED. I BOUGHT THE HONDA BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE OTHER BRAND OF ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION, BUT HONDA PUT GMC TRANSMISSION IN THEIR CAR, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A DEFECT. NEGOTIATION IS IN PROGRESS WITH HONDA MANUFACTURE BUT UNLIKELY TO RESULT IN COMPENSATION OR RECALL. *AK
MY 2000 HONDA PASSPORT STALLED ON ME ONE THURSDAY MORNING AND CALLED AMERICAN HONDA TO FIND OUT IF THE PROBLEM IS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY AMERICAN HONDA TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO BE DIAGNOSED FOR ANY MECHANICAL FAILURE AND GIVEN A CASE# FOR THIS INCIDENT. I RECEIVED A CALL THE FOLLOWING DAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH REGARDS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT'S A BROKEN TRANSMISSION SEAL THAT CAUSED MY CAR TO STALL AND I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATED WORK ORDER OF $385. I FOLLOWED UP WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND INFORMED THEM OF THE SITUATION DOWN TO ME RENTING A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WHILE IT'S BEING REPAIRED. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY ARE GOING TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM AND WILL REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR IF IT FALLS WITHIN THEIR "SAID" GUIDELINES. SO I WENT AHEAD AND PAID FOR THE ORDER 2 DAYS LATER FOR $333.44 AND $13.34 OF WHICH IS THE COST OF THE PART AND THE REST IS THE DEALERSHIP'S LABOR COST (RIDICULOUS) NOT TO MENTION $27.72/DAY FOR MY CAR RENTAL FOR 2 DAYS. MONDAY CAME AND I RECEIVED A CALL FROM AMERICAN HONDA STATING THAT THEY DID A FOLLOW UP ON THE REPAIR AND THEY DECIDED THAT THE REPAIR COST WERE NOT CONSIDERED "PRE-MATURE DEFECT" THAT I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A REIMBURSEMENT FROM AMERICAN HONDA.*AK
HAD TO REPLACE REAR END AT A COST OF $1800. VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 55,000 MILES.)AK
AFTER 2-3 HOURS OF DRIVING ENGINE SHUT DOWN INTERMITTENTLY AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE VEHICLE RESTARTED UNTIL IT COOLED DOWN. THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY SUSPECTED THE FAILURE MAY BE RELATED TO THE FUEL SYSTEM. *AK *SCC *NLM
VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING OR STOPPING. I WAS TOLD WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE I NEEDED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED. I HAD THE OPTION OF CHOOSING A USED PART FOR $700 RATHER THAN A NEW ONE FOR $4000. SINCE I AM SHORT ON CASH, I OPTED FOR THE CHEAPER. SO NO PROBLEM WITH THAT BUT NOW I NEED TO HAVE MY MANIFOLD GASKETS REPLACED.
HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE ON HONDA PASSPORT WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON CAR.*AK
WHILE COMING TO A STOP SIGN CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, VEHICLE NEVER SLOWED DOWN, AND RAN THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. VEHICLE HAD FOUR BRAKES JOBS DONE, AND WAS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS RECALL #00V414000 TIE ROD WEAR. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR BECAUSE VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED. TS BOOT ON TIE ROD HAD CRACKED. *TT
MCDAVID HONDA IN HOUSTON, TX REPAIRED THE CAR/ NO FACTUAL EVIDENCE OF THE PROBLEM OCURRING AT 40,000 MILES/ BASED ON MCDAVID HONDA, HONDA WOULDN'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY/ MCDAVID HONDA CAN NOT PROVE WITH FACTS THAT THE CLUTH IS NOT A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT./ MCDAVID HONDA IS LYING/ I REQUESTED OLD PARTS BACK AND NEW PARTS ORDERED REPORT AND MCDAVID HONDA ASK ME TO TOW MY CAR AWAY, THEY DIDN'T WANT TO FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE./ MCDAVID HONDA WAS REJECTING A $1800 BUSINESS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PROVIDE ME WITH PROVE OF THE WORK/ WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BECAUSE WE HAVE OWN MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND HAVE NEVER SEEN SOMETHING SIMILAR. I HAVE HAD MY PASSPORT FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND EVERY SINCE I BOUGHT IT I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WE ARE HAVING A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA CORPORATION. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2000 HONDA PASSPORT IN FOR MANY VISITS AT LEAST 6. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE LAST YEAR. I NOW DO NOT HAVE A FACTORY PAINT JOB. THE 2 MIRRORS HAD SPOTS WHICH MEANT THAT THE MIRRORS NEADED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO THE DOOR STRIPS AND THE INTERIOR DOOR PIECES HAD TO ALSO BE REPLACED. THE LAST STRAW WAS THE TRUCK LEASKS AT THE BACK WHEN IT WAS WASHED BY ME. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE VEHICLE OR THE DEALER TO RESOLVE THESE PROBLEMS. *AK
