2005 HONDA PILOT WITH 58,000 MILES HAS TRANSMISSION SHUTTER AT 25 TO 40 MPH UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE. HAS HAD ALL SERVICES DONE WITH FACTORY FLUIDS AND FILTERS SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW. LOOKING AT THE SEARCHES SOME SAY IT'S TORQUE CONVERTER AND OTHER HAVE REPLACED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION. DEALER TOLD ME THE OTHER DAY PILOTS DON'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS BUT THE ODYSSEY HAVE THE ISSUE. SO I ASKED HOW MUCH TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND HE SAID $ 2000.00 . WELL I AM GLAD THAT I BOUGHT THE FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAVE A YEAR LEFT OF WARRANTY AN I AM MAKING A APPT, TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BEFORE THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. HONDA SHOULD RECALL THE TRANSMISSIONS LIKE THEY DID ON THE ACURA MDX SINCE THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME POWER TRAIN. *TR
TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS AT APPROX 30 MPH
THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION, A 2005 HONDA PILOT EX SHUDDERS AT OR BETWEEN 35 TO 40 MPH.IT HAS ALMOST COST ME TO LOSE CONTROL AND POSSIBLY MY LIFE. THIS IS A "KNOWN" TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM TO HONDA,YET THEY REFUSE TO ADDRESS THEIR NEGLIGENCE. *TR SUDDEN,UNEXPECTED BRAKING,WITHOUT BRAKE APPLICATION IS TERRIFYING AND ALSO DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. THE STEERING CONTROLS OFTEN VEER TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT ANY APPARENT CAUSE.
THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED WITH MY HONDA PILOT EX 2005 AT 01:00 AM ON 08/25/2011. I TRAVELED FROM HOUSTON TO DALLAS, TEXAS, THE SPARKPLUG NUMBER 5 BLEW OFF DURING DRIVING AT 65 MPH ( 99 MILES FROM DALLAS ). MY HONDA PILOT WAS REPAIRED AT HONDA DEALER ON NEXT DAY. TOTAL COST WAS $3,325.14. THE SPARKPLUG ( THAT BLEW OFF ) WAS ORINGINAL FROM HONDA AND ALL SPARKPLUGS WERE NEVER BEEN REPLACED BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. MY HONDA PILOT ONLY HAS 94,500 MILES. I THOUGHT THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. I SENT THIS PROBLEM TO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THEY IGNORED MY REPORT. INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOOSE ACCELERATION AT LOW TO MEDIUM SPEEDS. ONGOING ISSUE AFTER REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. FIRST INCIDENT AT 93,000 MILES AND INTERMITTENT PROBLEM CONTINUES AT 112,000 MILES AFTER 3 REPAIRS. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF UNSAFE TRANSMISSION ISSUES ON 2005 HONDA PILOTS YET HONDA MOTORS REFUSES TO ADMIT DESIGN FLAW. ACURA MDX WITH EXACT SAME DRIVE TRAIN AS THE HONDA PILOT HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUES BEING EXPERIENCED BY PILOT OWNERS YET HONDA MOTORS WILL NOT DO A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD UNSAFE ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES THAT IS OVIOUSLY CAUSED BY AN DESIGN FLAW AS HONDA CORRECTED THE DESIGN IN THE 2006 MODELS. HONDA SHOULD BE MADE TO TAKE RESONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECTS. *TR
TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO REVERSE, NOTICE A PINK-BROWN FLUID IN THE DRIVEWAY. HAD PILOT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PILOT WAS BOUGHT & SERVICED. INFORMED TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES IN RADIATOR HAD DISINTEGRATED, CAUSING TRANSMISSION FLUID TO LEAK INTO RADIATOR & RADIATOR FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN ASKED HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN TO A 6 YR OLD PILOT WITH ONLY 59 K MILEAGE NO ONE HAD THE ANSWER. RECOMMENDATION WAS NEW RADIATOR & 2 TRANSMISSION FLUSHES, COST $906.29. I ASKED FOR SOME KIND OF ASSISTANCE WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR, BECAUSE OF THE YEAR, MILEAGE & ALL SCHEDULE SERVICES WERE PERFORMED @ THE DEALERSHIP. HERE COMES THE ALABAMA SHIM-SHAM. I WAS INFORMED TO CALL HONDA OF N AMERICA. HONDA OFFERED ME $300 TOWARDS THE REPAIR COST,I SAID THE OFFER WAS UNACCEPTABLE, THEY OFFERED $450, THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE. A FEW DAYS LATER HONDA CALLED BACK OFFERING 400, I ASKED WHAT HAPPEN TO THE 450 OFFER, THEY OFFERED 450 AGAIN. I INFORMED HONDA I NEEDED AN OFFER OF 600, THEY AGREED, I'M WAITING FOR THE CHECK IN THE MAIL. 4 DAYS AFTER I TOOK THE PILOT FROM THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP THE TRANSMISSION WENT. DEALER INFORMED ME REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE $5200. INFORMED DEALER I SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED BECAUSE DISINTEGRATED TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. HERE COMES THE ALABAMA SHIM-SHAM AGAIN. DEALER & HONDA WOULD PAY $2500, I WAS TO PAY REMAINING COST $2700. I INFORMED THEM THAT THE OFFER IS UNACCEPTABLE. DEALING WITH HONDA & DEALER THEY STATED THE NEW COST TO ME WOULD BE $500, I INFORMED BOTH I NEED A BETTER OFFER THAN THAT, THE NEXT OFFER WAS FOR ME TO PAY $250, I ACCEPTED THAT OFFER. HONDA HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 05 PILOT TRANSMISSIONS & TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES. THEY KNOW IT BUT WON'T ADMIT IT. TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES ARE DISINTEGRATING @ THE 5 - 6 YEAR MARK REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE LOOK AT FOR THE REASON WHY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STOPPING AND SHIFTING INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL CRASHING INTO A CEMENT MEDIAN AND ANOTHER VEHICLE, RESULTING IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGES. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY, WHERE IT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING AT AROUND 45-50 MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN THE MORNING RUSH HOUR, AS I PRESSED MY BRAKE SUDDENLY TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING ON TO MY LANE, I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT SWUNG VIOLENTLY FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE AS I TRIED TO STEER IT AWAY FROM VEHICLES AROUND ME SO AS NOT TO HIT THEM. IT FINALLY CAME TO A HALT AFTER SLAMMING ON TO THE VEHICLE THAT CAME ON TO MY LANE CAUSING ME TO BRAKE SUDDENLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE PERSON WHOSE CAR I HIT AND WHO WATCHED ME FROM A CLOSE RANGE TOLD ME LATER THAT HE WAS WORRIED THAT THE CAR WAS GOING TO TURN OVER. FOR ME, THE SCARY PART WAS WHEN I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR BY STEERING IT. I SWERVED IT LEFT & RIGHT SO AS NOT TO HIT OTHERS BUT FELT AS IF SOMETHING ELSE WAS CONTROLLING THE SIDEWAYS MOVEMENT OF THE CAR. I SUSPECTED IT WAS SOME KIND OF COMPUTER MALFUNCTION AND THOUGHT ABOUT REPORTING IT TO HONDA BUT DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO DO THAT. I AM REPORTING IT NOW AS I READ YESTERDAY ON USA TODAY THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING A SIMILAR-SOUNDING PROBLEM THAT ANOTHER CONSUMER REPORTED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *JS
THE FRONT AND SIDE ENGINE MOUNT FOR MY 2005 HONDA PILOT NEEDS/NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD THE SIDE MOUNT REPLACED 6 MONTHS AGO AND NOW THE FRONT MOUNT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. I UNDERSTAND THAT A DAMAGED ENGINE MOUNT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE READ COMMENTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE FROM OTHER CONSUMERS. I HAVE NEVER KNOWN AN ENGINE MOUNT TO BE WORN FROM THE SEVERAL VEHICLES I'VE OWNED AND WHEN I MENTION IT TO MY FRIENDS THEY ARE SHOCKED TO LEARN OF THIS TYPE OF REPAIR. IT'S ANALAGOUS TO HAVING A BAD SCREW OR BOLT WHICH IS VERY RARE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. PERHAPS HONDA OF AMERICA INSTALLED BAD MOTOR MOUNTS ON THESE CARS AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED AND WERE NO LONGER OPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. 2005 HONDA PILOT .. PURCHASED USED HAD FOR 2 WEEKS AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP 4 TIMES WITH 2 PASSENGERS IN CAR. OCCURRED WHILE TAPPING BRAKES AT ABOUT 30 MPH ALSO HAPPENED TWICE WITH OUT TAPPING BRAKES. TAKING IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED FROM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACTED WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AS THE GEARS WERE SHIFTED INTO A HIGHER GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TOA SECOND DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
THE CLIMATE CONTROL LIGHTS INSIDE OUR HONDA PILOT HAVE ALL BURNED OUT. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO CHANGE THE SETTINGS AT NIGHT BECAUSE THE LIGHT BULBS DO NOT LIGHT UP. PLEASE FIX THIS HONDA! *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 48 MPH THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON AND WENT INTO AN EMBANKMENT. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK AND SHOULDER. THE FRONT PASSENGER ALSO SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER, NECK, MOUTH, AND FACE. THE REAR PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, LEG, AND BROKEN RIBS. ALL OF THE PASSENGERS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED SEVERAL OF THE INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
MY 05 PILOT SHUDDERS DURING ACCELERATION BETWEEN 35-40 MPH. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM, HONDA NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR

SRS WARNING LIGHT GOES ON AND STAYS ON FOR DAYS, THEN GOES OFF AND SEEMS OK FOR A WHILE. SOMETIMES IT COMES ON BRIEFLY AND GOES OFF. LATELY IT HAS COME ON AGAIN AND HAS NOT GONE OFF FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS STRAIGHT. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT OR AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE FLUSHED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT A SHUTTERING NOISE WHEN TRAVELING LOW SPEEDS OF BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. NO ELSE HEARD THIS BUT ME. HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH A WINDOW SWITCH (WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) ASKED THE HONDA MECHANIC IF HE HEARS A NOISE IN THE ENGINE. HE SAID HE HEARD NOTHING. KEPT DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND NOW THE NOISE IS LOUDER AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID ITS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND NOW THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ONLINE,OTHER HONDA PILOT OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HAD TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION DUE TO HONDA INSTALLATION OF A BAD OR FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. SO NOW I AM FORCED TO DIG DEEP INTO MY POCKETS TO FIX THIS TRANSMISSION. SINCE FINDING SO MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE OR ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM, I THINK THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. MY 2005 HONDA PILOT BRAKES HAVE AUTOMATICALLY SEIZED UP A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR BUT 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS (MAY 2012). ALL 4 TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED HAVE BEEN AT LOW SPEEDS (10-20 MPH, THANKFULLY!!!) AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF STARTING UP AFTER IT HAS SAT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE HONDA DEALER TWICE IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS (MAY 2012) THE DAY AFTER IT OCCURRED AND BOTH TIMES THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR FIND A PROBLEM. THE FIRST THREE TIMES THE VSA LIGHT CAME ON BUT NO CODE TRIPPED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE LAST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED NO DASHBOARD INDICATION OCCURRED. IT OCCURRED 3 WEEKS AGO, 1 WEEK AGO AND YESTERDAY BACK TO BACK SO THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE INTENSIFYING. SO FAR, FOR A TEMPORARY FIX, I HAVE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO STOP FOR A WHILE. AS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, YESTERDAY THE BRAKES SEIZED UP AS I WAS DRIVING BUT NO DASH INDICATION CAME ON. BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, ONCE THE BRAKES RELEASED, I A DECIDED TO DRIVE FORWARD TO TRY AND GET IT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION ONLY TO HAVE THEM SEIZE UP AGAIN ABOUT 100 METERS LATER. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RETURN HOME WHERE IT SITS CURRENTLY. *TR
2005 HONDA PILOT. SHUDDERED & VIBRATED AT 40 MPH STARTING AT AROUND 70-75K MILES. DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTER KNOWN TO HONDA BUT NO RECALL. ISSUE LED TO COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON HIGHWAY AND REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, TORQUE CONVERTER . *TR
SRS WARGNING LIGHT ON. DEALER DETERMINED THAT BOTH SRS FRONT IMPACT SENSORS ARE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FRONT AIRBAIGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF NEEDED. *TR
I HAVE A SHUTTERING NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATE BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO THE DEALER PRIOR TO EXPIRATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR A WINDOW SWITCH PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HEAR ANY NOISE. TO MY DISMAY, THE PROBLEM PROGRESSED AND BECAME WORSE, SO NOW AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (8/8/11), TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON THE TRANSMISSION. THEY STATED THEY CAN FIX IT FOR OVER $5000.00 EVEN THOUGH I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT PREVIOUSLY. THEIR ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE, I HAVE SINCE FOUND OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THE HONDA PILOTS AND HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DOES NOT WANT TO HELP FIX THIS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, HONDA TRIED TO CUT COSTS AND PUT A TRANSMISSION IN THAT COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE THE WEIGHT AND SIZE OF THE VEHICLE - THIS IS COMING FROM 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND A JUNK YARD OWNER. ALSO THE PARTS ARE SO HARD TO COME BY IF YOU TRY TO GET DONE CHEAPER BY AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC. THE HONDA DEALERS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO ARE ABLE TO GET THE PARTS FASTER. THUS CREATING A MONOPOLY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS THOROUGHLY AND YOU TOO CAN FIND A LOT OF DISSATISFIED OWNERS THAT HAD OR HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH HONDA. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THANK YOU. *TT
I PURCHASED A RADIAN 80SL IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR (SEAT DOM- 1/2010, SUPERLATCH BELT DOM- 12/2009) AND INSTALLED IT RIGHT AWAY. IT WAS INSTALLED WITH THE SUPERLATCH BELT AND WITH MUCH LESS THAN 1" OF MOVEMENT WHEN CHECKED AT THE BELT PATH. A FEW WEEKS AGO I NOTICED THAT THE TILT LOCK ADJUSTER ON THE SUPERLATCH BELT HAD MOVED FURTHER DOWN ON THE SEAT. I CHECKED FOR MOVEMENT AT THE BELT PATH AND IT WAS A GOOD 2"+ OF MOVEMENT. SINCE THEN I WAS NEEDING TO TIGHTEN IT EVERYDAY, HOWEVER I HAVE STOPPED USING IT ALTOGETHER SINCE MY 2 YEAR OLD IS ABLE TO PUSH THE RELEASE ON THE SUPERLATCH BELT AND LOOSEN THE SEAT EVEN MORE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE SEAT GRADUALLY RECLINED GREATER THAN 45 DEGREES ON ITS OWN (I ASSUME THIS IS DUE TO THE SUPERLATCH LOOSENING). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN IT RAINED WATER PENETRATED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
BOUGHT A 2005 HONDA PILOT BASED ON PAST HISTORICAL HIGH RELIABILITY REVIEWS OF HONDA VEHICLES. VERY DISAPPOINTED. AROUND 75000 MILES, VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER LIKE DRIVING OVER A WASHBOARD ROAD WHEN LIGHTLY ACCELERATING 30-40 MPH. FIRST THOUGHT OUT OF BALANCE TIRE, REBALANCED TIRES. STILL DIDN'T SOLVE PROBLEM, BOUGHT NEW TIRES, REBALANCED AND ALIGNED. PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. BEGAN TO RESEARCH ONLINE AND VERY DISAPPOINTED TO FIND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TRANNY, TORQUE CONVERTER, AND/OR TRANSMISSION COOLANT FAILURE. TOOK TO DEALER, DIAGNOSED AS BAD TORQUE CONVERTER, $2000. DEALER DOES NOT PLAN TO COVER, I PLAN ON TAKING UP WITH NHTSA AND HONDA AMERICA. *TT
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY ROAD I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH SO I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND FOUND A COIL LAYING ON THE GROUND ALONG WITH SOME OTHER PLASTIC PIECES. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN COMPLETELY OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK HEAD ALONG WITH THE BLOWN COIL THAT I HAD PICKED UP. THE SPARK PLUG WAS NEVER RECOVERED EVEN THOUGH I RETURNED TO THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT.

SEVERAL OF THE LIGHTS IN THE HVAC CONTROL PANEL IN MY 2005 HONDA PILOT HAVE BURNED OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 PILOTS, AND CAN BE CONFIRMED ON ONLINE HONDA PILOT FORUMS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HONDA OFFERED A DISCOUNT, BUT NOT A FREE REPLACEMENT AS IN THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR FOR OVER ONE MILLION VEHICLES, EVEN THOUGH IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME UNIT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN RPMS. THE FAILURE WAS SPORADIC AND WOULD ALSO OCCUR WHEN IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. AFTER SEVERAL MOMENTS, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
THE BRAKES SUDDENLY APPLIED WHILE CRUISING ALONG THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DIRECTED OFF THE ROAD THEN THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. VSA LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES LATER AT LOWER SPEEDS AND THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP AND VSA LIGHT WOULD COME ON. MECHANICS COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, SINCE IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. HONDA DEALER TOLD ME THAT NO RECALLS OR ALERTS WERE ON VEHICLE. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE MACHINED IN FEB 2012 BECAUSE THEY WERE "WARPED" AND THEN HAD TO BE REPLACED A YEAR LATER BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE PULSATING. SINCE NOV. 2009 I HAVE HAD TO MACHINE THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS THAT WERE "WARPED" TWICE. I AM NOW USING THE VEHICLE WITH THE VSA OFF. *TR
I DRIVE A 2005 HONDA PILOT. MY SAFETY RESTRAINT INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON A FEW DAYS AGO. UPON CHECKING WITH THE DEALER, THE SYSTEM AIRBAG CONTACTS WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THANKFULLY, I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVERS REPAIR, WHICH IS COSTLY. MY COLLEAGUE ALSO DRIVES A 2005 HONDA (ELEMENT) AND HAD THE SAME INDICATOR LIGHT COME ON WITHIN TWO DAYS OF MINE. WHILE MAKING 2 TURNS IN A PARKING LOT AT 10 MPH, THE VSA (VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST) ENGAGED, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO SUDDENLY GRIND THE VEHICLE TO A JARRING HALT---STOPPED ON A DIME! A MOMENT LATER, WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD AT ABOUT 20 MPH, THE VSA ENGAGED AGAIN, CAUSING ANOTHER SUDDEN GRINDING BRAKING TO A FULL STOP. HONDA SAYS THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS ANOMALY---DESPITE EASILY FINDING NUMEROUS BLOGS ON THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ---UP TO OCCURRING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HONDA DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT DID NOT IDENTIFY THAT THIS OCCURRED NOR TELL THEM THAT THERE IS ANY PROBLEM. I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE! *TR
AFTER PULLING OUT OF A PARKING GARAGE AND DRIVING ABOUT 4 CITY BLOCKS, OUR 2005 HONDA PILOT MADE A LOUD GROANING SOUND AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN AN INTERSECTION WHILE TURNING LEFT. FROM THAT POINT, FOR THE NEXT HALF MILE, THE CAR SCREECHED TO A COMPLETE STOP EVERY 15 TO 20 SECONDS, EVEN WHILE ONLY PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR GOING SPEEDS UP TO 20 MPH. I INSTRUCTED MY WIFE TO PULL INTO THE FIRST AVAILABLE PARKING LOT, AT WHICH POINT WE SAW THAT THE VSA CAUTION AND OFF LIGHTS WERE ON. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, PULLED THE KEY OUT, PUT IT BACK IN AND STARTED THE CAR BACK UP. THE VSA LIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON. I PRESSED THE VSA OFF BUTTON IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS MALFUNCTION ON THE WAY HOME. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SCARY DEFECT. I HAVE READ OTHER OWNERS' EXPERIENCES OF THIS SAME ISSUE AND I AM CONVINCED THAT IT IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING DEFECT. WE HAD OUR TWO YEAR OLD AND OUR NEWBORN IN A CAR WHICH SCREECHED TO AN UNEXPECTED FULL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION HALFWAY THROUGH A TURN. THERE WAS NO ICE, THE ROADS WERE DRY, AND THE TURN WAS CONTROLLED AND NORMAL. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE VSA TO ENGAGE. WE WERE LUCKY NO CARS WERE COMING THE OTHER DIRECTION TO HIT THE PILOT IN THE INTERSECTION. I HAVE ALSO READ OF THIS UNPROMPTED FULL STOP OCCURRING AT SPEEDS UP TO 60 MPH. THE POTENTIAL IMPLICATIONS OF THIS ARE DEVASTATING. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR USED WITH 105,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL NOW, BUT THIS ONE ISSUE IS ENOUGH OF A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I WILL IMMEDIATELY PURSUE GETTING RID OF THE VEHICLE AND FINDING SOMETHING SAFER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 HONDA PILOT WITH 57,000 MILES ON IT THAT I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT. I AM HAVING CONCERNS ABOUT THE TORQUE CONVERTER I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING ABOUT. MY CAR WILL ACCELERATE IN THE 32-45 MPH WINDOW AND THEN THE RPM NEEDLE WILL JUMP BACK DOWN TO A LOWER RPM. ALOT OF THE JUMPING NEEDLE IS HAPPENING. DRIVING ALONG AND CLOSE TO HOME FELT A POP AND NOTED THE TEMP GAUGE IN HOT RANGE OF MY 2005 HONDA PILOT. I HAVE 77,565 MILES ON IT. IN MY DRIVEWAY NOTED A GRAY LIQUID UNDER FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF VEHICLE. ON INSPECTING IN ENGINE AREA NOTED THE GRAY LIQUID OVERFLOWING FROM RAD OVERFLOW CONTAINER. OIL LEVEL OK BUT NOTED NO TRANNY FLUID IN IT. TOWED TO SERVICE STATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LOCATED IN THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED, MIXING UP THE FLUIDS. TOTAL COST $1900 WITH MULTI FLUSH. I HAD COVERAGE OF TRANSMISSION IN EFFECT BUT HONDA SAID NOT PART OF TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ATTORNEY NOW WORKING ON THIS CASE FOR ME. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING POORLY BEFORE AND NOW WORSE. TOOK TO HONDA DEALER TO CHECK OUT. THEY SAID NO PROBLEM THAT THEY NOTICED. WITH ONLY A FEW WEEKS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO A PROFESSIONAL TRANNY CENTER AND PAID $50 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE REPORT NOTED AN INTERNAL FAILED IN THE TRANSMISSION AND A NEED TO REPLACE OR REBUILD UNIT. BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER WITH THE REPORT. THEY LOOKED MORE CLOSELY AND AGREED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACEMENT. UNDER HONDA CARE THEY REPLACED WITH A REBUILT UNIT. MY CASE WITH HONDA PAYING ME BACK FOR THE INITIAL REPAIR IS STILL BEING HANDLED BY MY ATTORNEY. I FEEL THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE TRANSMISSION UNIT. NO ONE AT HONDA IS ABLE TO TELL ME IF MY REBUILT IS UNDER ANY KIND OF EXTENDED COVERAGE. STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE DEALER. *TR
