DT : CONTACT STATED ON OCTOBER 8, 2005 THE VEHICLE STARTED BY ITSELF. HE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON OCTOBER 17, 2005. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING AND NO NOISE. THERE WAS NO REMOTE STARTER ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT PURCHASED A 2005 HONDA PILOT IN AUGUST 2005. IN SEPTEMBER 2005, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR TIRES WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND COMING TO A FULL STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THE NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER SPEED BUMPS OR WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DESERT HONDA OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA ON FEBRUARY 2007. THE SERVICE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER AS OF FEBRUARY 12, 2006. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE THEREWAS NHTSA RECALL 04V541000 ON THESE VEHICLES. WHEN EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER, HONDA WAS CONTACTED. THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE EXPLAINED THAT HONDA WAS NOT HONORING THIS RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500, AND THE CURRENT WAS 10,000 MILES.*AK
TOOK MY 2005 PILOT IN FOR MAJOR SERVICE 100K . VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR INTERVALS OF FLUID REPLACEMENT AND OIL CHANGES AT NON HONDA SHOPS BUT WITH CERTIFIED COMPATIBLE PRODUCTS FROM VALVOLINE. MILEAGE ON CAR IS 107,928. PICKED UP CAR WAS RUNNING GREAT. WITHIN 7 MILES FLASHING D LIGHT ENGINE WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AND CAR FEELS LIKE ITS LOSING POWER AND WON'T SHIFT. DEALER SAYS ITS COINCIDENCE. NO SLOWING OF TRANSMISSION NO WARNING WHEN DEALER DID MAJOR SERVICE AND ALL POINT INSPECTION WITH HONDA DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. CONTACTED DEALER WAS TOLD CAR SHOULD BE DRIVABLE TO BRING IT IN. CAR STALLED OUT JERKED BACK AND RPMS SOARED ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GET REAR ENDED WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MILES AN HOUR. DROVE CAR 20 MILES AN HOUR AND JERKED BACK AGAIN CAUSING ME TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. PULLED OVER TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON ONLY ENGINE SILHOUETTE STILL ON AND DROVE 20 MPH TO DEALERSHIP. CAR IN DEALERSHIP MILEAGE IS 107953 AND AM TOLD ITS A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON A SEALED TRANSMISSION THAT DEALER COULDN'T DETECT THREE DAYS EARLIER. NO WARNING SYSTEM OR FAILED WARNING SYSTEM ON A VERY DANGEROUS MAJOR CAR FAILURE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT WAS AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM EVEN CAR HAS BEEN THOUGH MY CAR PASSED SMOG IN MAY 2012 WITH ABOVE AVERAGE RATING. MY POINT IS WHY IS THERE NO WARNING OR DETECTION TO THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING CAR FAILURE????? *TR
2005 HONDA PILOT DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 70 MPH.*** NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TOT HE DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER'S TECHNICIAN BALANCE THE WHEELS BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME THE TECHNICIAN ROTATED AND BALANCED THE WHEELS BUT THE CONSUMER COULD STILL FEEL THE VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. *NM
BRAND NEW 2005 HONDA PILOT EXL WITH RES HAS A VIBRATION BETWEEN 70 MPH AND 80 MPH. HONDA WILL NOT FIX THIS BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T DRIVE OVER 65 MPH AND THEREFORE CAN'T PROVE THE PROBLEM EXISTS. I'VE HAD HONDA BALANCE THE TIRES TWICE AND PAID TO HAVE A GOODYEAR DEAL BALANCE THEM. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *JB
SUSTAINED VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS ABOUT 45 TO 75 MPH. MULTIPLE TRIPS TO DEALER, WAS TOLD THIS IS A "CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE". STARTED THE FIRST DAY I DROVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE LOT WITH 50 MILES ON IT.
RADIATOR FAILURE DUE TO LACK OF PROTECTION, RESULTING IN PUNCTURE, LOSS OF COOLANT AND ENGINE OVER HEATING. POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE. *JB
2005 HONDA PILOT EX-L WAS PURCHASED ON 7-13-2005 IT NOW HAS 1210 MILES ON IT. A VIBRATION HAS OCCURED SIMILIAR TO OUT OF BALANCE WHEELS AND TIRES AT AROUND 70 MPH. DEALER HAS BALANCED WHEELS, SENT VEHICLE OUT TO ANOTHER TIRE COMPANY FOR ROTATION AND SPIN BALANCE. NOTHING HAS CURED THE VIBRATION. THE DEALER IS HELPFUL, BUT APPARENTLY CANNOT SOLVE MY PROBLEM. WE FEEL THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WE ALSO UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, THAT HONDA REFUSES TO ADDRESS.
DT: CALLER'S WIFE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WAS HIT IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AREA , AND AIR BAG DEPLOYED. CALLER'S WIFE HANDS WERE BURNED VERY BADLY. CALLER BELIEVED A SUBS TANGO FROM THE AIR BAGS BURNED WIFE'S HANDS. THE SUBSTANCE WAS A GRAY COLOR AND WAS EMBEDDED IN HER SKIN AND CUDGEL'S. SHE HAD BUMPS AND BRUISES. BUT THE BURNS WERE MAKING HER EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE, AND SHE WAS HAVING A HARD TIME. DEALER/ MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. SHE HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTOR TWICE TO GET AN OINTMENT AND PAIN PILLS. *AK
2005 HONDA PILOT EX WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON IT.. ~90% BRAKE FAILURE ON VEHICLE ON TWO OCCASIONS... 06/15/2005 AND 06/24/2005. TAKING TO HONDA OF CONCORD (CONCORD NC) TO BE REVIEWED... MAY OR MAY NOT REPAIR DEPENDING ON IF THEY CAN "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM BUT ARE AWARE OF SOME CASES OF THE MASTER CYLINDER GOING COMPLETELY OUT FOR A "MOMENT". ALERTING YOU ALL IN CASE THIS HAPPENS TO OTHERS AND TO HAVE ON RECORD.
MY VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE A FRONT END SHIMMY AT 70 TO 75 MILES PER HOUR. THE DEALER HAS BALANCED AND ROTATED MY TIRES NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. A HIGH SPEED BALANCE BY AN INDEPENDENT DEALER HAS IMPROVED THE SHIMMY BUT IT IS STILL ANNOYING. *NM
2005 HONDA PILOT HAS BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES HAVE NOT FIXED PROBLEM THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED ROTATED TIRES PROBLEM IS BACK NOW TIRES ARE WEARING ON EDGES ALIGNMENT DONE ON CAR 4 TIMES THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM WITH PTTR WILL GO OFF THE ROAD IN SECONDS IF NOT CAREFUL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *JB
DT: WHILE DRIVING,45 MPH, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED 2 TIRE BLOW OUTS WITHOUT WARNING. THE POLICE CAME AND TOLD HIM HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST AUTO BODY. THE DEALER STATED THEY WOULD NOT HAVE IT TOWED THEIR ESTABLISHMENT AND HE WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THEY COULDN'T TOW IT TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED BUT THEY WOULD HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THE CONSUMER DID NOT WANT TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. IN ORDER TO GO TO THE DEALER OF PURCHASE, THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT HIMSELF. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AT 70 MPH. *JB
SINCE WE PURCHASED OUR NEW PILOT, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A CONTINUED STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT APPROXIMATELY 69 MPH THROUGH 80 MPH. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE VIBRATION HAVE FAILED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THE CONDITION BUT IS UNABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. TAKING THIS VEHICLE ON A TRIP IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. WE WILL TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN ON A DIFFERENT MAKE AS SOON AS WE HAVE ENOUGH EQUITY TO BREAK EVEN. *JB

I JUST BOUGHT A 2005 PILOT. I HAD THE HITCH INSTALLED BY HONDA. I NOTICED SOME VIBRATION LOWER THAN 70 MPH BUT ASSUMED THAT I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE CAR. LO AND BEHOLD, WHEN I DROVE THE CAR HOME I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION IN THE STEERING STARTING AROUND 69MPH, PEAKING AT AROUND 76 MPH AND FADING TO "NORMAL" AT AROUND 80 MPH. THE VIBRATION FEELS LIKE A WHEEL BALANCE PROBLEM. CURRENTLY THE DEALER IS TRYING TO HELP, HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT CONFIDENT THAT THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. THINGS WE HAVE TRIED: A. MAY 30 PROBLEM NOTED ON TEST DRIVE BEFORE PURCHASE BUT IGNORED AS A NEW VEHICLE/DRIVER INTERPRETATION PROBLEM. PROBLEM WAS NOTED DAYS LATER THOUGH. B. JUNE 4 CAR TAKEN IN FOR INSPECTION 1) TEST DRIVE SHOULD MINIMAL PROBLEM NOT DRIVEN AT 76 MPH THOUGH 2) DEALER (RICHARD/BRETT) ALIGNED WHEELS 3) SHORT TEST DRIVE (BELOW 76 MPH) INDICATES FIXED 4) LONGER DRIVE AT 69 THROUGH 80 MPH INDICATES PROBLEM STILL EXISTS 5) SUGGESTED TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR A ''FORD'' HIGH-TECH REBALANCE C. JUNE 6 I AM NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN A FORD HIGH-TECH REBALANCE, BECAUSE THAT WOULD SIGN ME UP FOR EXPENSIVE REBALANCES FOR THE REST OF THE LIFE OF THE CAR. THE FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE A NORMALLY BALANCED WHEEL. TALKED TO RICHARD ABOUT SWAPPING TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TIRES IN FOR THE FRONT TIRES. HE WILL DISCUSS WITH THE SALES MANAGER. D. JUNE 7 I ROTATED THE BACK WHEELS TO THE FRONT TO DISQUALIFY THE WHEELS FROM THE EQUATION. CONSIDER DRIVING ANOTHER SIMILAR, NEW VEHICLE. F. JUNE 9 RICHARD DUDLEY CALLED BACK. TALKED TO HIM AND HE INDICATED THAT HE STILL NEEDS TO DO A FORCE ALIGN TO DISQUALIFY THE WHEELS. G. DEALER SWAPPED OUT TIRES FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. H. DEALER RADIAL FORCE BALANCED THE FRONT WHEELS.
HONDA HAS REFUSED FOR OVER A MONTH TO ANSWER WHY MY VEHICLE IS NOT BEING RECALLED FOR ITS AIR BAGS. I HAVE ASKED HOW THEY KNOW MY VEHICLE DOES NOT NEED TO BE RECALLED WHEN VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR ALREADY HAVE BEEN RECALLED IN CERTAIN REGIONS OF THE US. THEY WILL NOT ANSWER WHETHER MY CAR IS SAFE OR NOT. I HAVE ASKED THAT THEY REMOVE AT THEIR EXPENSE MY AIR BAGS TO DETERMINE IF THEY ARE UNSAFE, A REQUEST THAT HAS NOT BEEN ACCEPTED. THE PERSON WHO LAST CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE FROM HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS NOW FAILED TO RETURN MY CALLS ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASIONS. BASED ON PREVIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH MY DEALER AND HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE RECENT FAILURE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE TO RETURN MY CALLS, I FEEL AS IF I AM BEING STONEWALLED BY HONDA, WHO SEEMS UNWILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FLAWED, ALBEIT COST-SAVING DESIGN, BY ONE OF ITS SUPPLIERS. *TR
2005 HONDA PILOT - FUNDAMENTAL FLAW IN SHOULDER BELT CENTER SEATING POSITION 2ND ROW. THE BELT STARTS IN THE CEALING SO FAR FORWARD THAT WHEN A PERSON WITHOUT A THICK UPPER BODY SITS IN THE CENTER POSITION IN THE 2ND ROW, THE BELT PASSES NEXT TO THE CHEEK RATHER THAN THE SHOULDER. IN THE CASE OF A CHILD WHO IS TOO BIG TO BE IN A BOOSTER WITH A BACK BUT IS STILL RELATIVELY SMALL, THE SHOULDER BELT ACTUALLY PASSES IN FRONT OF THE SHOULDER AND DESCENDS TO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE SHOULDER OR THE UPPER CHEST! THIS LEAVES THE CHILD IN A POSITION TO HAVE HER NECK PERHAPS BROKEN OR OTHERWISE BE INJURED BY THE BELT IN THE EVENT OF A SIDE COLLISION FROM THE LEFT. MOREOVER, IT ALSO LEAVES PARENTS WITH THREE CHILDREN, SUCH AS ME, WHO NEED TO USE THE FULL CARGO AREA FOR CARGO, FACED WITH THE UNACCEPTABLE CHOICE BETWEEN PLACING THE SHOULDER HARNESS BEHIND THE CHILD'S BACK OR PLACING THE THE CHILD IN THE 3RD ROW AND ELIMINATING MUCH OF THE NEEDED CARGO SPACE. THE HONDA SERVICE DEALER ADVISED THAT IS JUST THE WAY THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED. HONDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WAS EVEN LESS HELPFULL. THE REPRESENTATIVE SIMPLY SAID IT "COMPLIES WITH ALL GOVERNMENT STANDARDS" AND THEN REFUSED TO REFER ME TO A SUPERVISOR OR ANYONE ELSE AT HONDA HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA OR TELL ME THE PHONE NUMBER FOR HONDA HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA. SURELY IT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL RULES TO DESIGN A BELT SO THAT IT DOES NOT EVEN MAKE CONTACT WITH THE SHOULDER AND UPPER CHEST OF A CHILD ONCE THEY ARE TOO LARGE FOR A BOOSTER WITH A BACK AND ARE THEREFORE SITTING AGAINST THE UPTIGHT PART OF THE 2ND ROW SEAT RATHER THAN BEING MOVED FORWARD BY THE BOOSTER. HONDA NEEDS TO PLACE THE BELT ABOUT SIX INCHES FURTHER BACK ON THE CEILING OR ATTACH AN ADAPTER TO THE BACK OF THE SECOND ROW THAT WOULD COME OVER THE SEAT AND GRASP THE SHOULDER HARNESS WHEN A CHILD OR SMALL WOMAN IS SEATED IN THE SECOND POSITION. PLEASE HELP BEFORE SOME CHILD IS INJURED.
2005 HONDA PILOT EXL CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN AS A RESULT OF SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND TRACTION.*MR THE CONSUMERS LAWYER STATED ON FEB 2, 2005 THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A RECALL REGARDING THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMERS LAWYER BELIEVED THE CRASH AND RECALL WERE IDENTICAL. *JB
AT 8,000 MILES MY 2005 HONDA PILOT DEVELOPED A VIBRATION, OR JITTER AT 65 MPH AND HIGHER. MODERATE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION BY 73 MPH. OWNER HAD AN INDEPENDENT TIRE DEALER CHECK AND RE-BALANCE THE WHEELS AS NEEDED. VIBRATION REMAINED. 2 MORE VISITS TO DEALER WHO ADVISED NO PROBLEM FOUND AND GO SEE THE GOODYEAR DEALER, WHO WANTED NO PART OF THIS ISSUE. MORE TRIPS TO DEALER WHO ADVISED THE VEHICLE OWNER SHOULD CONSIDER REPLACING THE OEM TIRES (NOW AT ONLY 8,500 MILES). OWNER REPLACED OEM TIRES WITH MICHELIN LTX M/S ($700) AND VIBRATION REMAINS. DEALER RE-BALANCED TIRES ON HUNTER 9700 MACHINE RESULTING IN MINOR IMPROVEMENT BUT BASIC JITTER REMAINS. NEXT VISIT THE DEAL ACKNOWLEDGES JITTER, IT'S ANNOYANCE, AND BLAMES TREAD PATTERN ON THE NOW NON-OEM TIRES. FILED COMPLAINT WITH HONDA NORTH AMERICA AND WAITED 312 BUSINESS HOURS FOR A RETURN CALL. HONDA RESPONDED WHEN I MENTIONED ARBITRATION. HONDA NORTH AMERICA REPORTS THE DEALER SAID 'NO PROBLEM FOUND'. NOW AT 14,000 MILES. HONDA SAYS THEY HAVE NO REGIONAL REP COVERING MY AREA (4TH LARGEST METROPOLITAN AREA IN THE US) AND WILL CALL ME BACK, SOON. THE VEHICLE JITTER REMAINS, 65 MPH AND HIGHER, MAKING THE VEHICLE TIRING TO DRIVE ON TRIPS OF DISTANCE (VACATION TRAVEL). THE JITTER/VIBRATION IS DISTRACTING AND OVER RIDES STANDARD 'ROAD FEEL'. HONDA APPEARS TO NOT BE INTERESTED IN MY ISSUE, OR DOES NOT HAVE A SOLUTION. OTHER HONDA PILOT OWNERS IN MY AREA, AND ON INTERNET BOARDS, REPORT THE SAME SYMPTOM. *JB

THE HEADREST OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT IS A DOUGHNUT HOLE TYPES HEADREST. THIS HEADREST IS NOT ADJUSTABLE AND SITS FAR BACK AWAY FROM THE BACK. SO, IT DOES NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE NECK. QUITE A FEW PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

AT SPEEDS UP TO APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CAR RANDOMLY HAS A SHUDDER OR VIBRATION. IT IS NOT FELT IN THE STEERING BUT IN THE BODY OF THE CAR. WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED HARDER OR IF THE GEAR SELECTOR IS MOVED TO D3 THE SHUDDER STOPS. THIS OCCURRED FROM 60K MILE WHEN PURCHASED TO NOW AT 170K MILES. DEALER CAN'T IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT RECOMMENDS A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER. HONDA AMERICA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE AGE. I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. HONDA IS IGNORING THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS. IT POINT TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ROTATED, REBALANCED, REALIGNED AND IT HAD NO EFFECT ON THE PROBLEM.
