The backup camera no longer functions. When reversing you get a black screen. Exposed wires are visible in the hinge area of the tailgate coming from the camera.
Back up camera wiring harness failure as a result of routing design within the the double action tailgate. 28,000 miles with camera failure
Backup camera intermittently worked for several weeks (working, black screen with yellow guides, radio instead of camera on center display). This was dependent on opening/closing tailgate. now it has stopped working completely for the last few months. From online research this appears to be a known wiring harness/broken wire issue.
After a short trip; usually to shop, I get a gas smell inside the truck when I restart. Honda dealer could not duplicate. The smell sometimes is also under the hood.
The 2019 Honda Ridgeline truck has a tailgate that opens and closes vertically as well as from right to left with a hinge on the drivers side. The action appears to cause the wire from the back up camera to chafe causing a short circuit. Shortly after my 36,000 mile warranty expired by back up camera began to fail. Now the backup camera does not come on when put into reverse but the whole display screen (GPS, Audio, etc) does not come on unless the tailgate is opened and closed repeatedly. This presents a safety hazard as vision behind the truck is very restricted when backing up. My Honda dealer said that there is a TSB for this problem but no recall has been issued.
This is my second Honda ridgeline. The first was a 2014 model. This 2019 ridgeline has a distinctive metal knocking noise in the engine when running. The noise gets quite loud the colder the initial startup and under initial load. It gets quieter after running on the highway for a distance. I took it to the dealer several years ago but the noise was hard to hear after running the interstate for 20 miles. The mechanic told me there was "nothing wrong". I think there is. I know what this engine is supposed to sound like. This VIN number should have been in the 2023 Ridgeline engine recall.
2019 Honda Ridgeline backup camera broke 5/2022 due to defective wiring harness at side hinge. Wires were chaffed bare, design flaw rendering camera useless. Safety compromised while backing up. Honda not receptive to repair.
Rear backup camera does not work, not a fuse issue. As we are seniors and have come to rely on camera while backing up, small children (our grandchildren) and pedestrians (while shopping) are at risk. Dangerous safety risk. We should not have to pay for this repair which I consider a safety issue on such a new vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the speedometer malfunctioned and failed to provide the proper speed that the vehicle was traveling. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who reset the speedometer software but the failure later reoccurred. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Rear camera not working Called for service at dealership told to check wire a tailgate wires are broken
Driving at about 60-70mph the hood vibrates or shimmy's. The movement is enough to warrant slowing down in case is opened suddenly. There are no warning lights or messages when it happens. It occurs frequently. I have not visited the Honda dealer yet.
In March 0f 2021 the backup camera failed. I paid Balise Honda $364.12 to replace the failed backup camera. Now on March 23, 2022 the camera has failed a second time. This backup camera is part of Honda's safety package, and Honda must correct this issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the hood was shaking significantly. The contact stated upon opening the hood, he noticed that the hood latch was significantly loose. Additionally, the contact stated that there were gaps in the front seals of the hood, allowing air inside, which caused the hood to vibrate. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V932000 (Structure, Latches/Locks/Linkages). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the striker support plate was installed; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the recall repair was not completed on the vehicle as no issues were found; however, the work order showed that the striker support plate was installed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the hood could not be replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V932000 (Structure, Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the manufacturer recall remedy notes stated that the hood could be completely replaced with a new part for free. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. Parts distribution disconnect. the only repair (striker support plate installation) that was done in regards to the recall. Despite the fact that consumer informed the dealer that she was still experiencing severe hood vibration at highway speeds, from the air entry through gaps between the hood and grill, which have caused the latch assembly to become extremely loose, the dealership has expressly told the consumer that they adhered to all the required guidelines when it comes to remedying this recall.
While opening the swinging tailgate, I noticed a rubbing sound. I closed the tailgate and opened it the standard method and noticed that the wire harness for the backup camera was out of the plastic holder/elbow and the outer harness shield had separated with the actual wires visible. I searched online and discovered this site: https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2017-2020-broken-tailgate-harness-causes-backup-camera-failure.217776/page-10. Apparently this is a known issue and if I had not discovered it, the wires most likely would have been severed rendering the backup camera inoperative. I brought the truck to the dealership and they confirmed the problem and mentioned that they have replaced multiple wire harnesses on other Ridgelines with the same issue. The dealership was unsure why there isn’t a recall or at least a TSB. I noted that the replacement part number is the same as the original and am concerned that this issue will again arise in the future. The truck had just under 28,000 miles when this issue was discovered.
The backup camera stopped functioning due to a wiring defect. The backup camera is installed in the tailgate and wires go between the tailgate and the body on the driver's side. Due to a design defect, these wire are prone to wear, pinching, and being cut during normal operation of the tailgate. The copper in these wires on my truck is exposed and some wires are cut resulting in the backup camera no longer functioning. This creates a safety hazard for both the driver and other people, vehicles, etc. when the car is being backed up. This issue is being investigated on 2017-2018 Honda Ridgelines (NHTSA Action Number: PE22001) but is also occurring on 2019 models which are not currently included in the investigation. This problem first occurred on my truck less than one month and less than 1000 miles after the warranty expired.
Severe hood vibration, bouncing and shaking present at various highway speeds (55mph-65mph). VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V932000 (Structure, Latches, Locks/Linkages). Upon visual inspection hood latch was significantly loose. Gaps evident in seal of hood and severe vibration of hood presented and remain present following recall/repair. The vehicle was brought to the dealership upon reciving recall notice. Dealership installed striker plate and tightened loose hood latch. (03/03/2022) However, hood continued to vibrate, bounce and shake at highway speeds after initial repair; noticed only after leaving dealership. Consequently, vehicle has been returned to the dealership two additional times for same safety complaint: severe hood vibration. (Vehicle returned again 03/04/2022 and 03/21/2022). Dealership was informed of continued severe vibration and failure to address the vibration and bouncing of hood resulting from air entry through gaps between hood and grill each time vehicle returned to dealership. Despite consumer informing dealership vehicle's hood was continuing to show severe vibration, shaking and bouncing at highway speeds, the dealership indicated they did all they could; all is safe and the hood does not get secured on sides, just at front latch. Dealership informed consumer nothing more could be done. Consumer found dealership's explanation; subsequent failure to address and correct vibrating hood safety issue unacceptable and is reporting this vehicle's hood vibration as a continued safety problem as it remains a clear and present danger at this current time. Continued, natural wear, tear, and strain caused by vibration and bouncing of the hood, resulting from air entry through gaps between hood and grill, remains clear and present danger of hood unexpectedly opening while driving increasing the risk of a crash resulting in potential injury or death.
With normal use of the dual action tailgate, the wiring harness for the backup camera becomes pinched repeatedly causing the jackets around the wires, the wires and the wire protection to break, resulting in the backup camera being inoperable. This seems to happen just outside of the warranty and requires that the wires are cut and new wire soldered in or complete replacement of the wiring harness from the tailgate to the cab.
I have experienced times when the vehicle brakes automatically for no apparent reason. This has created traffic safety issues--the potential to cause a rear collision--and I've had to override the braking by mashing the accelerator.
Truck has gas smell in cabin and outside the truck sometimes.
The restraints for the OEM bed cover failed and could no longer be properly tightened. The restraints closest to the cab include a carriage bolt where the square in the head is inserted into the plastic body of the restrain to prevent rotation. A nut is spun on the bolt to tighten the restraint mechanism between the cover and a mounting point in the bed. The square in plastic body of the restraint stripped during normal use, allowing the carriage bolt to rotate which prevents the restraint from being properly tightened and the cover from being properly attached to the truck. Without proper restraint, the bed cover could come loose at highway speeds and pose a danger to other motorists.
Backup camera has stopped working. I can see cables that have been damaged because of a poorly designed cable harness routing through the Ridgelines 2 way opening tail gate. There are hundreds of posts regarding this defect (https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2017-2020-broken-tailgate-harness-causes-backup-camera-failure.217776/page-20) The backup camera is completely useless now and with the Ridgeline's higher truck bed (due to the "trunk" funtion), it is very difficult to see when backing up and makes the vehicle much more likely to be involved in a backing up accident.
I was driving at 65 Miles and I felt something wrong was happening, the hood was totally opened while I was driving .its was a windy day and I thought was the wind . I stopped and I closed it very well but the fallowing week I had the same issue with my car.
About 5-8% of the time when I engage the cruise control, it will advance an additional 3-4 mph all by it self. This almost caused an accident on one occasion. I had it into the dealers for repair and they said it was normal. I never had a car that did this before.
Experiencing odor in cabin when truck is idling. (smell like chemical coming from vent).
Honda certified used vehicle purchased in mid August ~27K miles. Shortly after normal vehicle operation and returning to our enclosed garage, the vehicle emits a strong odor of gasoline, not the result of improper or careless fueling. Two visits to dealership say nothing is wrong. No other source results in odor if this Honda vehicle is not in the garage, including a 2017 Murano. The odor is occasionally detectible in the cabin but that is not the primary complaint. The emissions of gasoline vapor (odor) appears about 15/20 minutes after shutdown and even detectible outside close to the vehicle between the left rear passenger door and rear wheel.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while at a standstill the contact noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The fire marshals came and extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was informed of failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 17,500
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving approximately at 50 mph, the vehicle crashed into a second vehicle causing severe damage to the front end. During the crash, the front driver seat belt pretensioner failed and did not secure the driver causing the driver to slide down the seat during impact. The driver sustained an injured left arm and injured upper torso which required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,700. The contact stated that the vehicle was totaled during the incident.
The backup camera has failed. The issue is wear and tear of an exposed portion of the wiring harness at the left tailgate hinge. The plastic housing containing the wires is exposed, breaks open, and exposing the wires supplying power to the camera and possibly other items. These wires continue to flex and eventually break. This is important because backup cameras are now part of he vehicles safety system. Failure causes the vehicle to become more unsafe. I believe that there should be a recall to inspect the wiring harness and replace if deemed defective.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently came to a complete stop but the engine was still running and gas pedal was not responding. The contact stated that the vehicle stability assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was still awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. Consumer stated dealer could not reproduce the problem. Case number [XXX]. BACKUP CAMERA WHICH IS A MANDATORY SAFTEY FEATURE STOPPED WORKING. WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT ENTERS THE TAILGATE WAS PINCHED AND WIRES SEVERED. THIS WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER STATED THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN TO ROUTE THE WIRING HARNESS DIFFERENTLY TO MINIMIZE THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ON THE HONDA RIDGELINE FORUMS OF BACKUP CAMERAS FAILING DUE TO WIRING HARNESS ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD BE OFFERING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE WIRING HARNESS AS THIS IS A MANDATORY SAFETY FEATURE THAT IS NOT RELIABLE.
WIRE HARNESS TO BACKUP CAMERA IS FAULTY CAUSING CAMERA SCREEN FAILURE TO DETECT PERSONS OR OBJECTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHILE DRIVING INFO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STOPS WORKING, FREEZES THEN GOES BLANK. LOSE ALL DIGITAL INDICATIONS ON DRIVERS DISPLAY AND NAV CUES. WOULD BRIEFLY FLASH EVERY FEW SECONDS AS THOUGH IT WAS TRYING TO RESTART. HAS DONE THIS TWICE NOW IN A NEW TRUCK OF ONLY 26K MILES. THIS OCCURRED IN MOTION AND PERSISTED UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. DEALER SAYS WITHOUT A 'CODE' THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS LOSS OF INFO WHILE DRIVING.

ON 8/24/20 I HEARD A CLICKING NOISE IN MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS OR PARKING. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL SEEING THAT MANY HONDAS HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE ISSUE SEEMED LINED TO THE CLOCK SPRING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT JOE MORGAN HONDA IN MONROE, OH ON 8/29/20 FOR 8/31/20. JOE MORGAN HONDA CONFIRMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE CLOCK SPRING AKA CABLE REEL. THE INVOICE IS ATTACHED. JOE MORGAN HONDA EXPLAINED THAT IF I HAD LET THE ISSUE GO LONGER, THE NOISE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN WORSE. EVENTUALLY THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS AND HORN WOULD LOSE POWER, AS WELL AS THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG. THIS IS WHERE THE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE COMES INTO PLAY. JOE MORGAN HONDA CONTACTED THE TECH LINE UPON CONFIRMING THE ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND IS HAPPENING ON OTHER RIDGELINES. HONDA IS TELLING CUSTOMERS THIS IS NORMAL. LOSS OF POWER TO THE AIR BAG WOULD CAUSE IT NOT TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE CLICKING NOISE PRIOR TO THE REPAIR. I HAVE ALSO OPENED A CASE WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND STALLED WITH SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WEST HILLS HONDA (520 W HILLS BLVD, BREMERTON, WA 98312) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 21V215000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
Vehicle had had a rodent due to the wires long story short through the next day I got a light and things were not driving right and I got it to the dealer thank God. Cost me roughly 250 to 300 to have it repaired on my own dime because they said a rodent chewed The wire. I see and hear from other Honda owners that is a major problem with soy based wires. I do not consider an animal a natural act. It's a pest therefore you child-proof that you do not leave wires on the bottom open to areas that a animal can get to The chew. I feel Honda should be looked at since they know of this problem they saw hot and deterrent capacity type tape to deter rodents. How do I not know one of those components is not going to be something that is life limb or eyesight next time and that one next little wire that that road and choose to is going to cause an accident? Please address thank you.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH, THE HOOD STARTED TO VIBRATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
FUEL / COMBUSTION CHAMBER ODORS ACCUMULATING AROUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED IN GARAGE AND FILLING THE CABIN WITH NAUSEATING ODOR. THIS PROBLEM COMES AND GOES WITH NEW RESOLUTION FROM DEALER. SEEM AS AN ENGINE VENTING ISSUE. ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE NEW PHURCHASE.
HONDA RIDGELINE, 2019, HONDA SENSING, WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A BLDG, 1/2 WAY IN, THE SENSING, SENSED SOMETHING? THE BIG YELLOW LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH WITH THE WORDS "BRAKE", TRUCK COMES TO A COMPLETE HALT, I WAS SLIGHTLY JERKED FORWARD, THE TRUCK WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, 1/2 IN 1/2 OUT OR PARKING SPOT, DIAGONALLY, MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL, I THEN JUST LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE GAS PETAL TO MOVE FORWARD AND PARK, BUT THE TRUCK RESUMED TO FULL SPEED AND RAN ME INTO THE WALL, ABOUT 15 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON, THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT FLOORED, THE COMPUTER JUST TOLD IT TO RESUME THE SPEED. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, MY HANDS WERE HURT... I WAS ALONE ON THE STREET. *TR
Upon startup, a raw fuel odor will enter the cabin. It usually doesn’t happen the first time it starts during the day but can be noticed upon repeated start up attempts. We often notice it when idling for a time as well. Sometimes a strong fuel odor is noticed when outside of the truck, even after parking it in the garage. I have taken it to two Honda dealers and they have not been able to replicate the issue. To keep the odor out of the cabin, we keep the fan on recirculate. We have had this problem since we bought the truck new in January 2020, as I noticed a strong odor in the garage after driving it home. I think we noticed it in February or March that year coming into the cabin through the heater. It also smells when it blows cold air, but it doesn’t happen all the time.
HOOD FLUTTERS ON HIGHWAY. HAPPENS MORE DURING WINDY CONDITIONS BUT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. LOOKS LIKE THE HOOD IS GOING TO BLOW OPEN. BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE AND DID NOTHING.
A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION RESULTED IN A CRASH 1-08-2020 AT 6:55 AM. THIS OCCURRED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. WHILE BREAKING THE VEHICLE HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, ENGINE RPM SUDDENLY INCREASED DRAMATICALLY CAUSING VEHICLE TO STRIKE LIGHT POLE, WHICH FELL TO THE SIDE OF VEHICLE. THIS RESULTED IN TO BE DETERMINED VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ISSUE WITH WHEEL ALIGNMENT. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITHOUT THE ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM WITHIN THE BALL JOINT CONTROL ARM. THIS PREVENTS AN ALIGNMENT FROM BEING PERFORMED. *JS
THERE IS A PERSISTENT SMELL OF FUEL AFTER MY RIDGELINE IS WARMED UP/DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED. THE GARAGE ITSELF WILL SMELL STRONGLY OF GAS AFTERWARDS AND THOSE FUMES GET PULLED INTO THE CABIN VIA THE FRESH AIR INTAKES. WHEN INSPECTING THE ENGINE BAY, ITS SMELLS FAR MORE STRONGLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE BAY THAN THE DRIVERS.
DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH, MY 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE'S AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY WHEN I HIT A 2015 FORD FOCUS THAT FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY AND CUT INFRONT OF ME. HONDA SENSING'S COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM AND FORWARD COLLISION WARNING FAILED TO ALERT ME AND FAILED TO STOP MY VEHICLE EITHER.
