ON FEBRUARY 3, 2015, I NOTICED MY BRAKES PEDAL WERE GOING CLOSER TO THE FLOOR. I GOT HOME AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LINES AT THE REAR WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO MY DRIVEWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE VEHICLE UP FURTHER IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO PUSH IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. ON FEBRUARY THE 7TH I CONTACTED MY GMC DEALER IN WENDELL, NC. I ADVISED THEM THAT I WAS GETTING AAA TO TOW MY VEHICLE IN DUE TO BRAKE LINE PROBLEMS. THE DEALER REPAIRED MY REAR AND FRONT BRAKE LINES AND CHARGED ME A TOTAL OF 1,949.00 AND SAID THAT THEIR WAS NOT A RECALL ON THIS PART. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING WHILE STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT. SINCE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WAS RUSTED, THERE WAS NO RESERVE BRAKING FROM THE DUAL SYSTEM. I WAS TRAVELING AT A MODERATE SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO RECOVER WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AT A COST OF $1100, NOT KNOWING THAT THIS WAS A COMMON DEFECT IN GM VEHICLES. I SAW TODAY IN THE NEW YORK TIMES THAT MANY OTHER GM VEHICLE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS APPARENT THAT GM ENGINEERS HAVE NOT HEARD ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF GALVANIC CORROSION AND USED THE WRONG MATERIALS FOR CRITICAL COMPONENTS. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE BRAKE HYDRO-BOOST WAS LEAKING FLUID. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED IN TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. WITH BRAKE PEDAL STILL FIRMLY DEPRESSED, AS SOON AS VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO GEAR VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD. BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY HARD AND WHINING NOISE WAS COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. VEHICLE SLOWLY STOPPED AFTER DRIVER'S FULL BODY WEIGHT WAS PUT ON PEDAL. THERE WAS NOTHING UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE APPROPRIATE. VEHICLE WAS LEFT TO RUN FOR A BIT AND WAS TESTED AT LOW SPEEDS. PROBLEM WENT AWAY AS MYSTERIOUSLY AS IT ARRIVED. *TR
2005 AM GENERAL HUMMER H2 BRAKES GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR ON A PANIC STOP. THIS PROVIDES NO FEEDBACK FOR THE HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACE. THIS IS CONTRARY TO ACCEPTED VEHICLE BRAKE DESIGN PRACTICE AND MAY CAUSE A DRIVER TO PANIC.
