2008 HYUNDAI AZERA. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS MADE RELATED TO SAFETY RECALL 14V-415.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI AZERA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING AT THE LOCAL GAS STATION, A CITIZEN USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FAILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER GETTEL HYUNDAI OF SARASOTA (3500 BEE RIDGE RD., SARASOTA, FL) WERE BOTH NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred every 3 years. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: 21-01-047H-1. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. ON JULY 27, 2010 THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED; YET, THE FAILURE WASN'T CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,068 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,100.
