CAR ACCELERATED BEYOND CONTROL TO ~90 MPH BEFORE STEERING LOCK AND CAR WENT INTO JERSEY BARRIERS. ACCORDING TO TSB FROM HYUNDAI THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT KNOW ISSUE CALL A TPS(THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) FOR 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA'S WITH A "1" IN THE 10TH POSITION OF THE VIN NUMBER. THE TSB NUMBER IS 01-36-027. BEFORE WE CONTACT HYUNDAI , I WANTED TO SEE IF THIS WAS ON RECALL OR SAFETY CHECK AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY INFO. *JB
FAILURE TO HONOR A RECALL 00V332000. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH HE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE DOOR AND OBSERVED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR AT THE DOOR HAD MELTED. HE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000, AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. UPDATE *4/23/07 **TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. HIS VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO RECALL 03V257000 ( SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS). AFTER THE REPAIR, HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD HOLES IN THEM WHICH CAUSED BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE. THERE WAS NO COMPRESSION IN THE BRAKE LINE , SO THE PEDAL FELL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR DURING APPLICATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE WHERE THE DEALER DISCOVERED A CONNECTION PROBLEM AND CLEARED THE FAILURE CODES. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND AGAIN, THE DEALER RECONNECTED THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES IN A ONE DAY PERIOD AND THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS FOR A THIRD TIME YET TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V532000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,776 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,200.
10/28/05 CAR DID NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY WHILE PARKING, WENT THROUGH FENCE AND HIT DECK. BRAKES DID NOT HOLD IN SAND. CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED, NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKES. ADVISED BY DEALERSHIP THAT THE RECALL ON BRAKES FOR HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2001 WAS REMEDIED BY THEM. BRAKES STILL DO NOT HOLD WELL, ADVISED BY ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT BRAKE SHOES ARE FINE. STILL DO NOT HAVE A GOOD COMFORT LEVEL WITH BRAKES. AIR BAG LIGHT ON, RECALL ON FILE FOR MODEL AND YEAR, DEALER ADVISED NOT FOR MY CAR. WILL FIX AT COST OF APPROXIMATELY $700.00. *NM
2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 4DOOR SEDAN MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH, MY WIFE'S' BUMPER HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER APPROX. 35-40 MPH. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SEAT BELT LOCK CAUSING MY WIFE TO HIT THE WINDSHIELD WITH HER HEAD. HER CHEST HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. *NM
THE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON CAUSING A DOWN SHIFTING AFTER A BANGING IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. IT WAS A SENSOR THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RUNNING GEAR. WITHOUT IT THE CAR DOES NOT DRIVE. THAT IS PART OF THE RUNNING GEAR. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 231.00. IF I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS PART OF THE RUNNING GEAR. *JB
MY AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. I DEBATED ON WHETHER OR NOT TO TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE IT WASN'T ON CONTINUOUSLY. THEY ALWAYS SAY WE CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WELL NOW THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON CONTINUOUSLY AND I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THE COMPUTER IS SHOWING 12 DIFFERENT CODES FOR THE AIR BAGS AND THAT THEY NOTICED SOMETHING STICKY LIKE POP ON THE WIRES. THEY SAID THEY WEREN'T GOING TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. MY FIRST ISSUE WITH THAT IS THEY SHOULD BE SEALED OFF COMPLETELY SO A LITTLE POP SHOULDN'T FRY THE AIR BAG. THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT MY HYUNDAI WAS BECAUSE OF THE WARRANTY AND THE ASSURANCE THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING FOR 5 YEARS. UNFORTUNATELY THAT ISN'T THE TRUTH. AFTER 6 MONTHS OR SO I REALIZED THAT I HAD TO START MY CAR FOR ATLEAST 15 SECONDS BEFORE I COULD ACTUALLY PUT IT IN DRIVE AND GO. BUT WHY WASN'T IT LIKE THAT IN THE BEGINNING? AND AFTER THE FIRST YEAR I NOTICE RUST BEHIND THE PASSENGER DOORS IN NEAR THE WHEEL WELLS WHERE THE CAR IS WELDED TOGETHER. THAT'S A REAL HIGH QUALITY CAR RIGHT THERE WHEN YOU HAVE A CAR THAT'S 10 YEARS OLDER AND IT DOESN'T HAVE A SPOT OF RUST,THAT SHOWS QUALITY. WHAT DOES HYUNDAI SHOW? NOT MUCH AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. IT SHOWS POOR QUALITY AND A COMPANY THAT DOESN'T REALLY STAND BEHIND THEIR WARRANTY. LETS NOT FORGET THE FACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR IS HORRIBLE. IT SHIFTS INTO SECOND GEAR SO HARD AND SOUNDS LIKE A CANON EXPLODING. THE LIGHT ABOVE THE LICENSE PLATE BURNT OUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THEY REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. AND THE FACT THAT ALL THE WIRES INSIDE MY DOORS WERE CORRODED AFTER TWO YEARS AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SO, NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG MODULE BEING DESTROYED AND THEY SAID I SPILLED POP OR SOMETHING IN THE CONSOLE AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED IT. AFTER SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH WIRING IN THE CAR THEY DON'T SEE THAT THIS COULD BE LEGITIMATELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE MODULE. *NM ABL.PCO
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED AND RESULTED IN THE WHEEL FALLING OFF. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM ALSO RUSTED. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE SAME THING IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE OTHER SIDE. DEALER SUGGESTED THEY SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER CALLED THE DEALER, AND THE DISTRICT MANAGER SAID THAT THE PART WAS NOT DEFECTIVE AND DENIED THE CLAIM. THE COST OF REPAIRS WAS $1,500.00. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED BY CONSUMER'S SON IN LAW. ALSO PICTURES WERE AVAILABLE. *AK *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS NHTSA RECALL 00V332000 CONCERNING THE AIR BAGS: SIDE/WINDOW. THIS VEHICLE MANIFESTS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK UPDATE 1/11/2006 - THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH INDICATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG. *NM
WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED COLD AND PUT INTO DRIVE, FOOT APPLIED TO THE GAS, THERE IS A PERIOD (APPROX 10-15 SECONDS) OF HESITATION AND THEN THE VEHICLE WILL JERK FORWARD. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND TRYING TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC FROM A PARALLEL PARKING SPACE. I HAVE TRIED TO PULL THE CAR OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND IT HESITATES FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE MOVING.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. LESS THAN ONE YEAR AGO, MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE IT HAD "DRIED UP"! THEY REPLACED THE BAG. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, BUT NOW MY WARRANTY IS JUST UP, THE LIGHT IS BACK ON. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE DEALER, THE CONSUMER DIVISION OF HYUNDAI, THE CEO OF HYUNDAI OF MY CONCERNS AND ALL THEY HAVE OFFERED TO DO IS SPLIT THE PART, ONLY, WITH ME AT 50%. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS A RESPONSIBLE SOLUTION FOR A COMPANY TO TAKE ON A PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. IT HAS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE TO HAVE FAULTY AIRBAGS! I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE, IT HAS NEVER BEEN INFLATED...WHY WOULD IT "DRY OUT"? I HAVE A COUPLE OF OTHER ISSUES, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THEY COULD BE SAFETY RELATED. DT: CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND VEHICLE OVERHEATED. CONSUMER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND WHITE SMOKE COME OUT FROM UNDER HOOD. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A GARAGE WHERE CONSUMER FOUND OUT THAT THE RADIATOR BROKE, AND THE ENGINE WAS FRIED FROM THE RADIATOR EXPLODING. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED REGULARLY. CONSUMER SAID THAT A MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT HE HAD THREE SAME TYPE CARS WITH SAME PROBLEM WITHIN THE WEEK IN HIS GARAGE.*AK

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE RAN INTO THE BACK OF A VAN. UPON IMPACT, DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
I HAVE HAD BALL JOINTS ON MY 2001 SANTA FE REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE 5/03. THE FIRST WAS 5/03 AT 44K AND THE DEALER REPLACED COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THE SECOND WAS 9/04 AT 80K NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY HAD A PRIVATE MECHANIC COMPLETE, AND THE THIRD WAS 3/05 AT 100K AGAIN BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC. I HAVE CALLED HYUNDAI 3 TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE TO MY INQUIRIES.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING IS UNDER THE SEAT THAT MADE IT COME ON. , HOWEVER, THEY WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE EXACTLY WHY THE LIGHT IS ON. *NM ABL.PCO
WITHIN THE SPACE OF ONE MONTH ALL 4 OF MY POWER WINDOWS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. 1ST THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW, THEN A WEEK LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE, FOLLOWED SHORTLY THEREAFTER BY BOTH REAR WINDOWS. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE ELANTRA, AND I FOUND SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER: 0490010-NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10007954-POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR. I JUST WONDER WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL...EACH MOTOR IS VERY EXPENSIVE, ALMOST $300...IT WILL COST ME OVER $1200 TO REPAIR ALL 4 MOTORS. *JB
1. DAUGHTER DRIVING CAR ON HIGHWAY WHEN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SUCH AS RADIO, DOOR LOCKS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AND DOOR CHIME RANG CONTINUOUSLY. ON JAN 22, 2005 SHE STARTED CAR, DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WINDOW WENT DOWN BY ITSELF AND ELECTRICAL WINDOWS AND OTHER INTERIOR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS STOPPED WORKING. AN ACRID BURNING SMELL THEN DEVELOPED AS WELL AS WISPS OF SMOKE FROM THE DOOR AND DASH. 2. AS A RESULT, AND DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS ABOUT POSSIBLE FIRE AND DAMAGE TO VEHICLE, THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. OVERRIDING CONCERN WAS THAT POSSIBILITY OF FIRE AND FURTHER DAMAGE EXISTED. 3. INSPECTION AND INVESTIGATION BY REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT THE MAIN ELECTRICAL HARNESSES RUNNING THROUGH BOTH FRONT DOORS WERE CORRODED, SHORTING OUT AND ONE HAD EVIDENCE OF SCORING AND MELTING. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE MANUFACTURER, HYUNDAI, HAD A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, #03-90-009 (WHICH SUPERSEDED #01-90-004) THAT ADDRESSED THE CONDITION THAT WATER COULD GET UP INTO THE AREA OF THE WIRING HARNESSES AND CAUSE CORROSION AND SHORTS. REPAIR REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF FOUR WIRING HARNESSES, TWO ON EACH SIDE, AND SEALING THE AREA IN THE CAR STRUCTURE WHERE THE WATER COULD ENTER IN THE FIRST PLACE. REPAIR COMPLETED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S TSB. THE OLD WIRING HARNESSES WERE KEPT BY OWNER. *NM
MY SANTA FE LX-AWD REAR DIFFERENTIAL WHICH ALSO COULD BE DEFINED AS REAR AXLE WAS TOTALLY FAILED AND ALL THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID IS LEAKING AND THE WHOLE THING NEED TO BE REPLACE. MY CAR IS 87K MILE WHILE HYUNDAI SERVICES DEALER STATED THAT THIS PART IS COVERED UNDER THE 5/60K BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. I STILL BELIEVED THAT THIS PART SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY; WHICH IT IS 10/100K MILES. WHEN I GO INTO MOST WEBSITES TO SHOP FOR THIS PART THEY MOSTLY RELATED TO THE POWER TRAIN PARTS. THE DEALER EXPECTED ME TO PAY NEARLY $2400 FOR JUST THIS PART TO BE FIX. THIS IS NOT INCLUDED LABOR YET. THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO AFFORD TO PAY FOR THIS PART AND OF COURSE NOT TO MENTION ABOUT LABOR....I SERIOUSLY FEEL THAT THIS PART SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN 10/100K WARRANTY INSTEAD OF 6/60K WARRANTY. SINCE THIS IS PART OF A TRANSMISSION TURNING THE TRANSAXLE TO THE REAR BECAUSE OF MY CAR IS AWD! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY BUT THE PART IS RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE FOR ANYONE TO AFFORD TO PAY ANOTHER $3K TO FIX IT. I FEEL TO POINT THAT I RATHER SAVE MY $3K RIGHT NOW AND BUY A USE ACCORD/CAMRY TO DRIVE. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT HERE IS TO ASK NHTSA TO HELP ME VERIFY THE CONDITION OF THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL/REAR AXLE ON MY 2001 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LX AWD TO SEE IF THE PART SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER OR UNDER POWER TRAIN. AS YOU CAN SEE YOUR PART SELECTION IS ALSO STATED POWER TRAIN: REAR DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. I WAS HOPING FOR A RECALL THEN THAT WOULD BE GREAT OR CHECK AT THE PRICE POINT OF THE PART. HEAD ON COLLISION WHICH RESULTED IN FRACTURE OF C-SPINE. THE DRIVER AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THIS MAY HAVE INCREASED THE SEVERITY OF THE INJURY. VEHICLE IS NOW UNDER INVESTIGATION BY INSURANCE COMPANIES AND LEGAL COUNSEL. *JB
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, ON DASHBOARD, CONTINUES TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE PARAMUS HYUNDAI DEALER HAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED THIS PROBLEM 4+ TIMES. I WAS TOLD THAT WHILE THIS WARNING LIGHT IS ON, THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT.*JB ABL.PCO
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 45 MPH, AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
THE BALL JOINTS CRACKED WHICH CAUSED THE FRONT LEFT TIRE TO BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE. *AK THE VEHICLE'S TCM/ECM SOFTWARE FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP/SURGE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE DUE TO AN INTERNAL FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE A/T ASSEMBLY AND FLUSHED THE A/T FLUID. THE LEFT SUNVISOR WAS COMING APART. THE VISOR CLIPS BROKE AND AS A RESULT THEY COULD NOT HOLD THE VISOR IN A STABLE POSITION. SEAT BELT BOLT COVER BROKE. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK WAS HARD FOR THE PASSENGER TO UNLOCK FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DOOR LATCH AND ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE'S HEATER TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR TO EFFECTIVELY WARM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE BLEND DOOR WAS LOOSE AT THE ACTUATOR. *NM
AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THAT THE COMPUTER CHIP WAS BURNT BY LIQUID SPILLING ON IT SINCE ITS LOCATION WAS BELOW THE CUP HOLDER. DEALER WILL REPAIR AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE.*AK........CONSUMER DOES NOT SEE HOW THIS SHOULD BE HIS RESPONSIBILITY. IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY, OR CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CUP HOLDER COULD NOT BE USED FOR ITS PURPOSE. *AK ABL.PCO
THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON. THE OWNER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB ABL.PCO
THERE WAS A SPONTANEOUS DEPLOYMENT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IN OUR 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE FRONT SUSPENSION/BRAKING/TIRES SYSTEM'S UNDER PERFORM DURING SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. ON THREE SEPERATE OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS SUSTAINED DAMAGE IN EXCESS OF $1,000 PER EVENT FOR THE VEHICLES' UNDER PERFORMANCE BASED ON THE "OPTIONAL" TRACTION CONTROL" PEFRORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS SUPPLIED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR TYPICAL TURNING CONDITIONS UNDER SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. *JB
MY HYUNDAI SATA FE, 2001, WAS PARKED AND UNATTENDED WHEN THE CAR IGNITED INTO FLAMES. A WITNESS SAW THE FIRE BEGIN IN THE HOOD OF THE CAR. ACCORDING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT, THERE WAS NO CRIME OR ARSON. INSTEAD IT CLEARLY SAYS THAT THE CAUSE OF IGNITION WAS ACCIDENTAL, AND THE EQUIPMENT OR HEAT SOURCE FAILED. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE DUE TO MANUFACTURER. THIS WAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI DID NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO FOR THE MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE. GEICO'S CLAIM DEPARTMENT NOTIFIED ME THAT MY CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE INVESTIGATOR CLEARLY STATED THAT THIS ACCIDENT WAS NOT DUE TO MY ACTIONS. THEY ALSO SAID THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CAR OR I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR BURNED IN THE FIRE. HYUNDAI DID NOT WANT TO HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER. I STILL HAVE A LOAN OUT ON THE CAR. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER 60,000 MILES AND I HAD FULL WARRANTY. GEICO HAS SETTLED FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY. ALL I WANTED WAS ANOTHER CAR. I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH A USED CAR TO REPLACE THE CAR WHICH WENT UP IN FLAMES DUE TO HYUNDAI'S POOR MANUFACTURING. DAMAGE RESULTING I HAVE BEEN UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE I WAS WITHOUT A CAR FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. DURING THAT TIME, I WAS UNABLE TO COMMUTE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. I AM PAYING INSURANCE FOR THE CAR, EVEN THOUGH GEICO CONSIDERED THE CAR A TOTAL LOSS. ALL I WANT IS A REPLACEMENT OF MY CAR. *AK

2001 ELANTRA REGARDING REAR BRAKE TUBES RECALL NOTICE.*MR IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIES TO GET THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE, HOWEVER WHEN THE CONSUMER SHOWED UP, THE DEALER WAS CLOSED, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP HAD CHANGED OWNERSHIP AND TO CALL BACK. THE CONSUMER CALLED BACK TWICE AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE STILL CLOSED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE BOOKED DESPITE HAVING AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE MOST OF THE DAY, BUT WHEN THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE VEHICLE, THE INVOICE STATED THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED. *JB
WATER IS LEAKING THROUGH THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT AND SOAKING THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *LA

WHILE TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY, THE GAS PEDAL WAS RELEASED AND IT RETURNED TO ITS RAISED POSITION BY ITS SPRING. HOWEVER, THE ACCELERATOR CABLE DID NOT RELEASE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE ACCELERATING. WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TRYING TO STOP THE CAR, IT STILL IMPACTED THE VEHICLE AHEAD. SUBSEQUENT TO THE ACCIDENT, THE STICKING OF THE ACCELERATOR CABLE COULD BE REPLICATED INTERMITTENTLY. BY TAPPING AND REDEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR THE CABLE WOULD RELEASE. AT THIS TIME, THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR HAS PREVENTED INVESTIGATION UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE DAMAGE WILL BE REPAIRED AT A SHOP RECOMMENDED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. *LA

HAD TIRES PROFESSIONALLY INSPECTED AND BALANCED, AND CHECKED VARIOUS TIMES.... IT IS NOT THE TIRES. I HAVE LIFETIME BALANCING AND ALIGNMENT SO THE TIRES ARE BALANCED AND ALIGNED EVERY 3 TO 5 THOUSAND MILES. REPLACED ORIGINAL (POOR QUALITY) MICHELINS WITH HIGH END FIRESTONES AT 43,000 MILES AND VIBRATION PERSIST. YOU HAVE TO GO ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT, OR WAY BELOW, TO STOP YOUR ARMS AND HANDS FROM BEING SHAKEN RIDICULOUSLY...... SERVICE MANGER AT DEALERSHIP AND REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL. THE VIBRATION MIGHT BE NORMAL FOR A PAINT MIXING MACHINE BUT NOT FOR A CAR. CALLED THE 800-633-5151 NUMBER AND WAS TOLD BY BARBARA THAT SINCE THE REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER HAD DETERMINED IT WAS NORMAL VIBRATION THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO. *AK

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON 03/12/06 SHE HAD SHE HAD A CRASH AND THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS HIT FROM THE BACK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS DRIVING ABOUT 7 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLES INSURANCE COMPANY SENT HER A COPY OF THE RECALL FOR HER VEHICLE ON AIR BAGS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE REPLACED HER AIRBAGS WHEN SHE INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON. AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS TURNING ON. ON MARCH 4, 2004 MY CAR WAS SERVICED BY HYUNDAI FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE SERVICE REP. TOLD ME THAT THE WIRES THAT RUN UNDER THE SEAT HAVE A TENDENCY TO BECOME DISCONNECTED. THIS PAST WEEK, I MOVED THE SEAT FORWARD TO VACCUM THE INTERIOR AND THE ARIBAG LIGHT IS BACK ON. I MOVED THE SEAT BACK AND THE LIGHT TURNS OFF. ALSO, THE SAME ISSUE SEEMS TO BE CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE RADIO'S WIRING AS THE RADIO NO LONGER WORKS. ABL.PCO
OIL PAN STRIPPED AFTER 16 OIL CHANGES. SHOP SAYS THIS IS DUE TO STEEL PLUG IN ALUMINUM PAN. DESPITE CAR HAVING 50, 000 MILES AND STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, DEALER STATES THEY WILL NOT REPLACE PAN. HYUNDAI SENT OUT A TSB NOTING THIS WAS AN ISSUE (TSB# 0240016 AND 0140023? - THE TSB DETAILS NO LONGER APPEAR). *JB
THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES OVER 60-65 MPH AND STOPS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE VECHICLE ALSO PULLS TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE NEW. I HAVE HAD WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, TIRE ROTATIONS AND ALL TIRES BALANCED. THE PULLING GRADUALLY RETURNED AS DID THE VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. DEALER SAYS THAT IT CAN'T FIX IT.*AK
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
