FRONTAL AIR BAG FAILURE. MR *JB
A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I BEGAN TO HEAR A VERY ANNOYING "HOWL" COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT CORNER OF THE CAR. SOON AFTER THE CAR WOULD VIBRATE AFTER ACCELERATING TO A CERTAIN POINT. I FINALLY COULDN'T STAND DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE NOISE SO I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY CHECKED AND SAID THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BEARINGS IN THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. FOR A WHILE, IT WAS FINE BUT NOW IT'S STARTING TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN A YEAR LATER IN THE SAME LOCATION IT SEEMS LIKE. I ONLY HAVE 38,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD HAVE RECURRING PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. ALSO, RECENTLY I'VE NOTICED THAT IT IS JUMPING INTO GEARS RATHER THAN MAKING A SMOOTH TRANSITION LIKE IT USED TO. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH THE VEHCILE WILL STALL OUT WITHOUT WARNING. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL STALLS OUT. CAUSE STILL UNKNOWN. TS
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LEAKED WHEN IT RAINED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT THE WATER STILL LEAKS INTO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NLM
THERE IS A TERRIBLE HOWLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE RIM'S ON THE CAR ARE SO FLIMSY THAT I HAVE HAD TO RIMS BENT IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. THEY CAN NOT HANDLE NON PAVED ROADS. TH FRONT SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT PROPERLY CAUSING THE SEAL ON THE DOOR TO BE TORN WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT. THE GAS MILEAGE IS TERRIBLE. SUPPOSED TO BE UPWARDS OF 35+ MPG ON THE HIGHWAY AND I ONLY GET APPROXIMATELY 24 - 26 MPG. THE INSURANCE ON THIS VEHICLE IS RIDICULOUS!! YOU THINK THAT I HAD AN AUDI. THE COST OF THE INSURANCE IS THE SAME. I HAVE BROUGHT UP MY CONCERNS WITH THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO THINK THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE HOWLING SINCE THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO DO IT WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING THE CAR. THE GAS MILEAGE THEY SAID WOULD IMPROVE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS BROKE IN AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES. WELL I AM PAST THE 20,000 AND THE MILEAGE HAS NOT IMPROVED. I AM NOT AT ALL HAPPY WITH THIS CAR. I WOULD GET RID OF IT IN A MINUTE IF I COULD GET OUT FROM UNDER THE PAYMENTS.

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THERE WAS A OIL SMELLL COMING INSIDE OF THE VENTS PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
THE VEHICLE WAS IN A REAR END COLLISION. THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BACK HAD RECLINED BACKWARDS UPON IMPACT, WHICH RESULTED IN THE DRIVER SUSTAINING NECK AND BACK INJURIES. TS SCC
AFTER ABOUT 4,000 MILES THE ENGINE DEVELOPED A FLAT SPOT IN THE ENGINE RIGHT AT ABOUT 4000 RPM.IT IS ANNOYING AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO PASS ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE TO RESET THE ECM ABOUT EVERY 1500-2000 MILES. AFTER I RESET THE ECM. THE FLAT SPOT,OR LAG, IS GONE FOR ABOUT 1500-2000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO RESET IT ABOUT 5 TIMES SO FAR. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE BEEM ABLE TO LOCATE ,OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
ALMOST EVERY TIME THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THERE WAS A LOUD CLANKING SOUND COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER HEARD THE NOISE AT LEAST ONE HUNDRED TIMES. VEHICLE WAS AT DEALER FOUR TIMES CONCERNING BRAK PROBLEMS. *AK
DEALER ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEMS. ENGINE REVS VERY HIGH BEFORE SHIFTING GEARS. SOMETIMED WON'T SHIFT AT ALL. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON DURING PROBLEM BUT GOES AWAY BEFORE I CAN GET TO THE DEALER.
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE SEVERELY PULLING TO THE RIGHT. *MR THERE WAS A SQUEALING NOISE, THE TIRE IN THE RIGHT REAR HAD WORN, THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREADS WERE GONE (NOT WEARING EVENLY), THE BELTS SQUEALED, THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WOULD CAUSE THE FRONT TO SPIN, BUT NOT IN THE REAR, WHEN THE A/C WAS ON HIGH, THE LOUD NOISE WOULD BE EXHIBITED IN THE FRONT, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHEN THE A/C WAS ON. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 55MPH CAR ROLLED OVER 3 TIMES AND OFF A CLIFF 40FEET, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING SEATBELT LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT RELEASE UNTIL UNLOCKING THE SEATBELT. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, REPAIRED AND REPLACED IT. *AK
THE CAR HESITATES TO GO INTO SECOND GEAR AND REVS REALLY HIGH IN ORDER TO GO INTO THIRD GEAR.THE CAR HAS BEEN LOOKED AT TWICE FROM THE DEALER IN WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY RESET A CODE THE FIRST TIME BUT IT FAILED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME IT WASN'T ABLE TO BE RESET.BUT THE MECHANIC FINDS NO PROBLEMS.
SINCE THE PURCHASE OF MY CAR (I BOUGHT IT NEW), IT HAS A PROBLEM IN WHICH IN COLD WEATHER (BELOW ABOUT 35 DEGREES FAHR), THE BRAKES ARE VERY TIGHT AND DO NOT WORK PROPERLY FOR THE 1ST 2-3 MINUTES. AS THE CAR WARMS, BRAKE FUNCTION RETURNS TO NORMAL. AN INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED MULTIPLE OWNERS OF HYUNDAI'S AND OTHER VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND YOUR OFFICE ISSUED A RECALL OF SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE VEHICLES IN 2008 FOR AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM (RECALL NUMBER PE08016). PLEASE INVESTIGATE--IT APPEARS TO ME THAT HYUNDAI ELANTRAS SUCH AS MINE SHOULD RECEIVE A SIMILAR RECALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A THUNDER STORM INTERIOR AND DIMMER HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT SAME TIME. THERE WAS NO WARNING. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. *AK *TT
FROM DAY OF PURCHASE, I NOTICED A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING, STARTING ABOUT 42 MPH. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHO ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES. VIBRATION THEN STARTED ABOUT 50 MPH, BACK TO THE DEALER ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES AGAIN ALONG WITH ALIGNMENT. VIBRATION ABOUT 58 MPH BACK TO DEALER AGAIN, ROTATION, FORCED BALANCING, ROTOR TURNED DOWN, STILL HAD VIBRATION. FILED UNDER LEMON LAW, FINAL ATTEMPT BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT INVOLVED HMA REGIONAL CHIEF MECHANIC TROUBLE SHOOTER. HE CLAIMED THEY LOOSENED MOTOR MOUNTS AND LET ENGINE CENTER ITSELF, CHANGED TIRES, BALANCED AND ALIGNED AGAIN. AFTER A WEEK I PICKED UP CAR WHICH HE SAID WAS FINE. VIBRATION STILL NOTICEABLE. GAVE UP ON HMA AND DROVE CAR ABOUT 20,000 MORE MILES TILL VIBRATION GOT SO BAD I HAD TO GO TO A BRAKE SHOP BECAUSE IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. THEY CHANGED PADS, ADJUSTED BRAKES AND REBUILT RIGHT FRONT CALIPER. NO MORE VIBRATION. HYUNDAI WON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIR, SO FOLLOWING THRU WITH LEMON LAW AND HOPING TO GET OUT OF THIS DEATH TRAP. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON SOME DAYS, AND STAYS ON ALL DAY, SOME DAYS IT'S NOT ON. DO THE AIR BAGS WORK. ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PAINT FINISH, DOOR SEALS AND SEAT BELT RETRACTORS. REAL PIECE OF JUNK AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANY ONE. ALSO HAD TO HAVE BRAKE DUST REMOVED FROM REAR BRAKES AT ABOUT 7000 MILES AND THE DEALER CHARGED ME 60.00$ EXCESSIVE DUST ACCUMULATION IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND AT THE LEAST SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY HYUNDAI. *LA ABL.PCO
5/08/02, 5/29/02: BURNING OIL. DEALER REPLACED ENGINE BUT IT ALSO HAS A PROBLEM! STILL WAITING TO GET MY NEW CAR BACK WHICH I EXPECTED TO BE TROUBLE-FREE FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST FEW YEARS!*AK
BRAKE/GAS PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE, CAUSING DRIVER TO PUSH GAS/BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME.*AK *MJ
WHILE AT A STOP, VEHICLE WAS HIT ON DRIVERS SIDE FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE GOING 25- 30 MILES PER HOUR. UPON IMPACT NONE OF THE FOUR AIR BAGS EXPERIENCED DEPLOYMENT. CONSUMER SUFFERED LOWER BACK, NECK AND SHOULDER INJURIES. DRIVERS WINDOW SHATTERED. *JG
SUN ROOF LEAKS, ADVISOR SAY BUILT THAT WAY.*AK
NO MATTER HOW MUCH PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO BRAKES, PEDAL DESCENDS TO THE FIREWALL. DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO DETECT CAUSE AFTER SEVERAL REPAIRS. THESE BRAKES ARE HYDRAULIC, NO ABS. THEY HAVE BEEN BLED TO SEE IF THAT WOULD INCREASE THE PRESSURE. *AK CONSUMER SAYS THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, IT FEELS LIKE YOUR PUSHING ON A SPONGE WITH AIR IN THE SYSTEM. *SCC
SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, I FILED A COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE 10049365. I HAVE SEEN NO RESPONSES OF ANY TYPE. NOW TO TAKE THAT COMPLAINT A STEP FURTHER. MANY OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH THIS HYUNDAI DEATH TRAP,AND THE UNWILLINGNESS OF HMA TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEMS ,OR THE DEALERS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEMS IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THIS WEB SITE. AS I MENTIONED IN MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT, I WENT THROUGH THE LEMON LAW PROCESS IN MY STATE. THEY REQUIRE ARBITRATION WITH THE BBB AUTOLINE. THE ARBITRATION WAS A JOKE AND THE HMA REPRESENTATIVE ACCUSED MY WIFE OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE AND PUT ALL OF THE CAR WOES ON HER. SHE DRIVES THE CAR FOR WORK, MOSTLY HIGHWAY. ALSO, THE ARBITRATOR ACCUSED US OF HAVING A TOW HITCH ON THE CAR, WHICH IS LEGAL, BUT NOT RECOMMENDED. WELL, WE HAVE NO TRAILER OR HITCH. THE BBB AUTOLINE IS RIGGED AGAINST THE CONSUMER AND THEY SHOULD NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ANY STATE OR FEDERAL LAWS WHATSOEVER. HYUNDAIS OF THIS MODEL ARE CERTAIN DEATH TRAPS AND I FEEL THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD ORDER HMA TO REPAIR EVERYONE OF THEM NOW. THE CONSUMER IS STUCK BETWEEN A GLOBAL CONGLOMERATE AND LOCAL DEALERS WHO WILL NOT REPAIR THESE VEHICLES. *LA

VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A TWO COLLISION ACCIDENT. FIRST IMPACT STRUCK THE VEHICLE SIDEWAYS, NEXT IMPACT WAS HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER DUAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED DUE TO EXTENT OF DAMAGE. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK

VEHICLE BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY SQUEAL, WHEN THEY ARE DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PADS ARE NOT WORN PER THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CAUSE OF THE SQUEALING NOISE IS UNKNOWN. TS

WHILE DRIVING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STUCK BETWEEN GEARS, AND VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD, CAUSING DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL. VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *AK
ENGINE DIES AT ANYTIME. GEAR SHIFTER WILL NOT GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SAID GEAR SHIFTER BROKE.*AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE PRIOR TO BEING NOTIFIED OF BRAKE HOSE RECALL 03V257000. AS A RESULT, VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH 2002 HYUNDAI ELANTRA REAR BRAKE TUBES.*MR HYUNDAI ISSUED A RECALL AND UPON THE RECALL THE CONSUMER NEEDED A CAR FOR WORK PURPOSES SINCE IT WAS POSSIBLE THE DEALER MIGHT HAVE KEPT THE VEHICLE OVER NIGHT. HYUNDAI TOLD HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY DISSATISFIED WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE. *CB *JB

CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. A RECALL NOTICE WAS MAILED TO CONSUMER ONE YEAR AFTER VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS KILLED. THE OWNER'S FATHER WANTED TO KNOW WHY DID IT SO LONG TO BE NOTIFIED ABOUT THE RECALL. *AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
