AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY ONTO A SHARP CURVED OFF RAMP, UNEXPECTEDLY THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS UNEXPECTED LOSS OF MY POWER STEERING ALMOST PUT ME INTO THE ROADS GUARD RAILWHILE NAVIGATING THE OFF RAMP. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I NOTICED THE 'EPS' LIGHT WAS ON. I SHUT OF MY VEHICLE AND TRIED TO TROUBLE SHOOT IT, WHICH I WAS UNABLE TO DO. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND MY STERRING RETURNED TO NORMAL POWER STEERING MODE. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD TROUBLESHOOT THE EPS ISSUE, AGAIN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WITH THE EPS LIGHT TURNING ON. THE VEHICLE IS BEING TAKEN TO HYUNDAI OF SLIDELL FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15876848 THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
ON SATURDAY JUNE 15 MY EPS CAME ON. I LOOKED IT UP AND SAYS THERE IS A RECALL ON THE STEERING. TODAY JUNE 17 I CALLED HYUANDAI AND THEY TELL ME THERE IS NO RECALL. I WOULD RECOMMEND ALL 2010 ELANTRAS GET LOOKED AT FOR A RECALL ON THE STEERING. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND DRIVING THE CAR VERY FAR TILL YOU GET IT CHECKED OUT. I STARTED THE CAR WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON SATURDAY
THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED MAKES CLICKING NOISE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT BACK IN 2015 NOT SURE IF IT WAS REPLACED THEN. I WAS TOLD THEY CANT FIX IT THE RECALL BACK FROM 2015.
AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING FRONT END CRASH AT 35-40 MPH
POWER STEER ASSIST FAILED PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, EPS LIGHT WAS ON, STEERING DIFFICULT
THE STEERING COLUMN FELL INTO MY LAP WHEN I WAS PARKING THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY. MY REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT ALL THE SCREWS HOLDING IT IN PLACE HAD COME LOOSE.
EPS LIGHT IS ON. RECALL #127 AND #110 ONLY UPDATED EPS SOFTWARE WHEN IF FACT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY NEEDS REPLACED ON OVER 300,000 CARS RECALLED FROM 2008-2010. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER ON 5/7/2019 AND EPS SOFTWARE UPDATED ONLY!!!! CASE NO. 15684240. MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO DO ANOTHER RECALL FOR SAFETY REASONS AND SAFE LIVES!!! PEOPLES POWER STEERING IS BEING LOST. PLEASE READ ALL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AND CONTACT CORPORATE AT HYUNDAI. CAR HAS 97,000 MILES ON IT. EPS SOFTWARE UPDATED ON 5/7/2015 WITH 79,000 MILES. HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING ALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY, NOT THE CONSUMER AT OVER $2,400. BEFORE I PURCHASED THIS CAR, I CHECKED VIN AND NO OPEN RECALLS. I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR IF I KNEW OVER 300,000 VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED AND HYUNDAI WOULD NOT FIX!!! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED.

EPS LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A TOTAL COST OF $2500 APPROX (REPLACE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN). CAR HAS ONLY 113K. NOW I HAVE NO POWER STEERING. THERE WAS A RECALL TO UPDATE THE EPS CONTROL UNIT WHICH MY MECHANIC SAYS IS JUST A PATCH AND NOT A REAL FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON A LOT OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES. MY POWER STEERING WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AND IS NOW COMPLETELY OFF, MY CAR WAS PARKED.

I HAVE A 2010 ELANTRA 4DSD 2.0 102,000 MILES I HAVE HAD NO MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE CAR UNTIL ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. SUDDENLY THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING. UPON PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I WENT ABOUT A WEEK, AND SUDDENLY IT DID IT AGAIN. RESTARTED CAR, WENT AWAY, STILL DOES THIS INTERMITTENTLY. 2 DAYS AGO, EPS LIGHT WAS ONE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO REMOVE THE LIGHT USING THE METHOD ABOVE. ALSO, MY POWER STEERING WHEEL IS SO STIFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY, THEY FOUND THE FOLLOWING CODES: EPS - ELECTRONIC POWER - C1290 - TORQUE SENSOR MAIN SIGNAL FAULT EPS - ELECTRONIC POWER - C1604ECU(BRAKE SYSTEM) HARDWARE ERROR THEY TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN ($2500+). THIS SEEMS A BIT STRANGE TO ME FOR AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. BOUGHT MY CAR USED TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. GOING ON TO THE HIGHWAY I'VE NOTICED THAT MY RPMS GO HIGH UP TO 3RD AND DONT KICK INTO GEAR UNTIL I'M ON FLAT SURFACE ON THE HIGHWAY ALSO WITH A ROUGH SLAM INTO THE RIGHT GEAR, BARELY FEELS LIKE I'M GETTING THE RIGHT POWER. EVEN DRIVING IN THE CITY MY CAR HAS A ROUGH JERK WHEN GOING INTO GEARS. I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS NOT ON A RECALL!!!?.
THIS LIGHT CAME OF SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR AND AFTER 15 MINS OF DRIVING IT EVERYTIME SEEMS TO CONE UP IVE TRIED PRESSING THE OFF BUTTON FOR IT BUT THAT DOESNT WORK THE CAR SEEMS TO STEER ITSELF AT TIMES ALONG WITH OCCASIONAL BREAK PROBLEMS... THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT CALLED STERLING HYUNDAI (5001 JOHNSTON ST, LAFAYETTE, LA 70503, (337) 984-9050) AND WAS ADVISED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15223914. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I HAVE EXCESS PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL/BUMPING/CLICKING, WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THIS CAUSES A SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END WHEN BRAKING. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES SO FAR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. THERE IS NO EXCESS PLAY IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. THERE IS EXCESS PLAY ANYTIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL MOVE SEVERAL INCHES WITHOUT MOVING THE FRONT WHEELS.
FLEX COUPLING IN STEERING COLUMN HAS COME APART.
I'M REQUESTING NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE FAILURES OF SEVERAL SYSTEMS OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2010: SIMULTANEOUSLY FAILED/UNRESPONSIVE BRAKING, LURCHING/ACCELERATION DESPITE TRYING TO PUSH BRAKE PEDAL, &FAILED POWER STEERING CAUSING UNSAFE SITUATION AND ACCIDENT IN WHICH AIR BAGS ALSO FAILED TO DEPLOY DESPITE 2 IMPACTS TO FRONT END BUT FORM ONLY ALLOWED 3 PARTS OF CAR AFFECTED. MY HUSBAND PULLED OUT OF OUR GARAGE FRONT FIRST @APPROX. 1-2 MPH. WHEN HE TRIED TO BRAKE AT END OF DRIVEWAY/CHECK FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE ENTERING ROAD TO PARK IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE. BRAKES &POWER STEERING FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY AS CAR LURCHED/ACCELERATED FORWARD. CAR HIT A VAN DRIVING BY &OUR VEHICLE BOUNCED BACK INTO POLE WHICH SENT CAR ON SIDEWALK. CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE/LURCH FORWARD ON SIDEWALK DESPITE HIS FOOT ON BRAKES. HE CONTINUED TO TRY TO BRAKE &STEER BUT NEITHER WORKED. CAR HIT NEIGHBORS WALL/GARAGE &CAR STOPPED. JUST MISSED HITTING A PARENT/CHILD WALKING BY. AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY DURING EITHER IMPACT POLICE CAME AFTER ACCIDENT. DIDN'T FILL OUT REPORT BC AT TIME HE HE FELT OK EXCEPT FOR SHAKEN UP. HE WAS IN SHOCK &DOES HAVE PAIN& LOSS OF MOBILITY TO NECK/BACK. HE'S SEEKING TREATMENT. IT WAS IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE AND A CLEAR/DRY DAY. NO FLOOR MATS/ANYTHING WERE STUCK UNDER EITHER PEDAL. NO AFTERMARKET PARTS USED ON CAR. HYUNDAI ONLY PLACE TO SERVICE/REPAIR CAR UP TIL VEHICLE WAS TRANSFERRED ON 1/15/2018. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED &INSURANCE TOWED TO A LOT. WE REQUESTED THAT THEY INVESTIGATE BUT THEY SAID THEY DON'T. PLEASE FORMALLY INVESTIGATE.
THE HOOD LATCH IS INCREDIBLY RUSTY AND NOW IS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THE HOOD IS NO LONGER PROPERLY LATCHING CLOSED WHICH COULD CAUSE IT TO FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. WHEN CLOSED IT SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS LOCKED BUT UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION IT IS NOT LATCHING. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM A WHILE BACK BUT WITH SOME EFFORT WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE LATCH. NOW I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO CORRECT THE ERROR AND I'LL HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED.
TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND JERKS GOING TO THIRD GEAR AND SOMETIMES TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS TO DOWNSHIFT IF ACCELERATION IS NEEDED AS I'M ENTERING A HIGHWAY. MY CAR HAD ABOUT 45,000 MILES WHEN THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ACCORDING TO ONLINE FORUMS BUT THE MANUFACTURE WOULD NOT ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE ALLOWED MILEAGE TO GET REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V100000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED A SECOND VEHICLE BEFORE CRASHING INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED CHEST AND NECK INJURIES AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT HAND AND HEAD. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

WINDOW MOTOR FAILED AND WINDOW GETS STUCK DOWN HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES
PROBABLY WAS A RECALL ? I BOUGHT MY CAR AS IT WAS A REPO. AND HAD BEEN SETTING ON THE LOT FOR A LONG TIME ..I TRADED FOR IT AND SINCE IT DIDN'T HAVE BUT 32,000 MILES I GOT IT AS A NEW CAR WITH FULL WARRANTY ... I HAVE HAD SEVERAL RECALLS FIXED ..JUST VERY RECENTLY I NOTICED THE STEERING MADE A CLICKING NOISE ,AND THE STEERING HAS A LOT OF FREE PLAY IN IT ..I STILL OWE 2,385.17 DOLLARS ON IT ..SO FAR IT HAS GIVEN ME GOOD SERVICE ..BUT 8 MONTHS AGO THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL AND WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN ...NOW THIS STEERINGMY PROBLEM IS MY GREAT CONCERN.OVER THIS PROBLEM..I AM A RETIRED ,DISABLE WIDOW LIVING ALONE ..I TOTALLY DEPEND ON MY CAR TO GET ME TO MY DRS , PHARMACY,AND GROCERY STORE ..I HAVE NO ONE TO CALL ON TO HELP ME .. WITH ONLY 44, 434 MILES ON THE CAR, THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED EXTREME PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND A NOISE WHEN IT REACHED THE END OF A FULL TURN; MY MECHANIC EXAMINED IT AND FOUND A COUPLING IN THE COLUMN WAS BROKEN AND LUBRICANT WAS OOZING OUT. HE REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN.
REQUEST EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR AIRBAG LIGHT THAT CONTINUALLY STAYS ON. REQUEST EXTENDED WARRANTY AND FREE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND CHECK OF CLOCK TIMER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (SPECKS HYUNDAI OF TRI CITIES, 002 N 28TH AVE, PASCO, WA 99301, (509) 542-0234) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED, THE STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REFLASHED, AND THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO STEERING FAILURE PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE ESC LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY AND STAYS ON FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE STEERING RACK, REPROGRAMMED THE SYSTEM AND THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON.

RECALL ON EPS SOFTWARE WAS DONE 11 MONTHS AGO. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PROBLEMS WERE DIAGNOSED AS BAD SENSORS. THAT'S NOT BAD UNTIL THEY TELL YOU SENSORS THEMSELVES CANNOT BE REPLACED AND YOU NEED TO HAVE A COMPLETE NEW STEERING COLUMN INSTALLED AT $2,500. YES THE CAR IS 8 YEARS OLD, BUT ONLY 59,600 MILES. LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS, THIS IS A PROBLEM HYUNDAI SHOULD ADDRESS.
THEY RECALLED EPS IN 2015 AND I WASN'T NOTIFIED. NOW THEY TOLD ME IT WAS STEERING COLUMN PROBLEM AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $2000 FOR THIS. THE DEALER WON'T EVEN USE THE EXISTING EXTENDED WARRANTY TO FIX MY CAR. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS VERY ANNOYING.
2010 ELANTRA HAS 37,000 MILES. I'VE HAD THREE EPISODES (ONE WITH MY 16 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER DRIVING) WHERE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED ON CITY STREET. NO PRIOR INCIDENT KNOWN TO CREATE THE CONDITION. THUS FAR, ONLY WAY TO FIX PROBLEM IS TO TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART. NOT VERY SAFE. LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I HAD STRUGGLE TO DRIVE THE CAR INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT TO SAFELY TURN IT OFF AND RESTART.
RUBBER COUPLING FAILURE IN THE MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING (MDPS) ASSEMBLY A $2 PART WITH A $350 LABOR BILL. SAFETY INSPECTION STATION SAYS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH MAY RESULT IN FAILURE TO PASS INSPECTION. IN 2016 I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR "STICKY" STEERING, IN WHICH THE DEALER REPLACED BUSHINGS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. ON 5/19/2018, WHILE DRIVING FORWARD AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND MY EPS LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON BUT IT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AFTER HAVING A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT, WAS INFORMED THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE HYUNDAI HAS PROPRIETARY CODES ON THEIR EPS AND ABS SYSTEMS THAT DOESN'T ALLOW THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, FORCING ME TO HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. NOT HAVING THE FUNDS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 20 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALER, I DROVE MY CAR WITH NO POWER STEERING TO THE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR HAS 84,000 MILES AND NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THEY CAN NOT TELL ME THE REASON THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED BUT THAT IT DOES AT MY COST OF $2,500! I FOUND THE RECALL OF THE EPS BUT THAT IS ONLY REPAIRED WITH A PART, NOT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE FOUND ONLINE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH LOW MILEAGE ELENTRAS HAVING TO HAVE THEIR ENTIRE STEERING COLUMNS REPLACED AT THEIR COST. HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT PUTTING THEIR CUSTOMERS IN DANGER.

MY LIGHTS STAY ON CONSTANTLY AT ANY SPEED WHAT SO EVER AND LIKE THE RECALL STATES IF POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, GREATER DRIVER EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO STEER THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. IF I DIE IN A CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM LIKE ANY OF THE RECALLS THEY ARE WILING TO PERFORM THEY WILL BE PAYING MILLIONS MORE THAN THE $600 RECALL THEY SHOULD BE DOING TO BEGIN WITH.

I DIDN'T DO THIS IT IS ALL THE WAY DOWN IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY TOLD ME IT SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOTHING I DID. IT DOES THE NOISE WHEN I AM SITTING STILL. IF YOU TURN THE WHEEL IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS CATCHING ON SOMETHING.
