HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 ELANTRA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED OCTOBER 29, 2010, TO OCTOBER 25, 2011. DUE TO AN ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SENSOR MALFUNCTION, THE BRAKES FOR ONE OR MORE WHEELS MAY BE APPLIED UNEXPECTEDLY AND THE ENGINE POWER MAY BE REDUCED. THESE SYMPTOMS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY ILLUMINATION OF THE ESC INDICATOR LAMP IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.
WHILE DRIVING CAR STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICKING SOUND. CALLED HYUNDAI WAS TOLD TO CALL SERVICE LET SERVICE DEPARTMENTS KNOW THE PROBLEM IS TXX7 MDPS CUPPLING. ADVISED NOT SURE IF COVERED WITH MY100,000 WARRANTY ASK SERVICE DEPT. CASE #1484920
VEHICLE STALLED TWICE WHILE DRIVING. ONCE WHILE MERGING FROM A HIGHWAY ON TO A SURFACE STREET. HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE INVOLVING 2012 ELANTRAS AND OTHER YEARS AS WELL. THIS ISSUE WAS ALSO PRESENT IN THE SONATA, AND ULTIMATELY WAS SETTLED WITH A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. SPEAKING WITH AN ATTORNEY WE ARE ALSO AWARE OF INSTANCES WHERE VEHICLES HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE AS A RESULT OF THESE DEFECTIVE ENGINES.
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA COLLISION TO DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. DRIVERS SIDE AND DRIVERS AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL CAMPAIGN ON THE CLOCKSPRING FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND OFF WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. HYUNDAI CHARGED FOR A DIAGNOSIS WHICH REVEALED A "B1346 DRIVER AIRBAG RESISTANCE TOO HIGH (1ST STAGE)" CODE, BUT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING UNDER WARRANTY. ON HYUNDAI'S OWN WEBSITE THEY DESCRIBE THE REASON FOR THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY AS: "THE CLOCK SPRING IS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WHICH ROTATES WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE AIRBAG UNIT. HYUNDAI'S SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO ILLUMINATE THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WHEN ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE INCREASES, WHICH CAN BE CONTRIBUTED TO BY USAGE PATTERNS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS." AND IN REGARDS TO WARRANTY EXTENSION: "HYUNDAI IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY TO 15 YEARS, UNLIMITED MILEAGE, FROM THE DATE OF ORIGINAL RETAIL DELIVERY OR DATE OF FIRST USE. THIS COVERAGE IS AUTOMATIC; THERE IS NO ACTION NEEDED ON YOUR BEHALF." I WOULD LIKE HYUNDAI OF AMERICA TO REPLACE THE PART AS PROMISED, AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO DO MORE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, AND I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE MADE A DISTINCT TAPPING NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, AND WAS PERSISTENT FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS. JONES JUNCTION HYUNDAI (1504 BELAIR RD, BEL AIR, MD 21014) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES TO HELP IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 97,500.
DRIVING DOWN ROAD ENGINE DIED TOWED TO DEALER TOLD NEEDED NEW ENGINE HAD ONE AT 44,000 DONE UNDER WARRANTY. THIS ENGINE LASTED TO 76,000 NOW NEEDS ANOTHER ENGINE. ENGINE IS SO BACKORDERED DEALERSHIP TELLING ME 6 MONTHS. SO MANY ELANTRA ENGINES BLOWING UP SHOULD BE A RECALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AFTER PULLING INTO MY PARKING SPACE, I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND IT LUNGED FORWARD SEVERAL FEET ONTO THE PAVEMENT AND UP 2 STEPS IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE...THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, AT THE CURB
TAKATA RECALL. THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFE ISSUE. IT HAVE TO BE RECALL TO FIX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE VEHICLE. UPON PULLING OVER AND INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING PUNCTURED ONE OF THE TIRES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST SINCE THERE WERE NO RECALLS ATTRIBUTED TO THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO AUTO ZONE & VIDE 0713 & P0711. I ALSO TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AAMCO WHICH VERIFY THE SENSOR IN THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE TRANSMISSION APART TO FIX. I ONLY HAVE 31,000 ON MY VEHICLE. HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL ALREADY OR DO YOU EXPECT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER 1000,000 EVEN THOUGH I AM 2ND OWNER. THEY DID GIVE ME A CARD FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
WELL I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND LATER FOUND OUT IT HAD A RECALL ON IT.... SOMETIMES WHEN I PRESS THE BREAKS IT SEEM LIKE IT FLOODING AND BE PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND MAKING NOISES UNDERNEATH NEAR TIRES.. IT ALSO HAVE A SENSOR LIGHTS ON.
TAKATA RECALL CAR DOESN'T WANT TO START AND STRUGGLES TO DO SO. HAVE REPLACED BATTERY AND KEY FOB BATTERIES. THIS HAS TO BE A STARTER ISSUE, POSSIBLY AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. SAYS "KEY OUT" WHILE I'M DRIVING IT HALF THE TIME. I AM AFRAID IT WILL CUT OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING IT! I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 YEARS! BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MADE POPPING NOISES AND THE STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE EXPENSIVE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE NOISES WORSENED AND THE VEHICLE'S HORN NO LONGER FUNCTIONED. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A LIGHT, THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER BEGAN TO REVERSE INSTEAD OF MOVING FORWARD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SOUND THE HORN, BUT IT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE REAR OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT END OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SETTLED THE MATTER THROUGH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DAY AFTER THE CRASH, THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY SEIZED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE AIR BAG FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V115000 (AIR BAGS, STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
I HAVE HAD A FEW INCIDENTS WHERE MY CAR SUDDEN ACCELERATES WHEN I AM NOT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR.
THE VEHICLE HAS CONSTANT INTERMITTENT START UP ISSUES WHERE YOU GET A CLICK WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF WHAT IF THE CAR RANDOMLY CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING? THE FACT THAT THEY CHANTED THE BATTERY SIZE HAS CREATED CONCERNS OF POTENTIAL FIRES WITH THE VEHICLE AS THE FAULTY WIRING MIXED WITH A BATTERY SIZE THAT JUST A YEAR LATER HYUNDAI CHANGED COULD LEAD TO A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THE FACT HYUNDAI IS CHARGING PEOPLE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR "FIXES" THAT WITHIN HOURS OF COMPLETION ARE RENDERED WORTHLESS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS ISSUE IS WIDELY SEEN ONLINE FOR THIS YEAR MODEL BUT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. EVEN SPOKE TO A PARTS MANAGER FROM HYUNDAI AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL IN PARTICULAR AS IT WAS THE FIRST OF THE NEW BODY STYLE AND THAT BY THE 2013 MODEL THEY HAD MADE CHANGES TO THE BATTERY SIZE AND CONNECTORS WHICH CORRECTED THE ISSUE FOR FUTURE MODELS.
MY ENGINE HAS VERY LOUD TICKING SOUNDS. AS WELL WHEN I GO TO SHIFT MY CAR BACK INTO PARK THE ENGINE REVS ERRATICALLY. WHILE SITTING IDLING IT GOES LOWER AND HIGHER.
THE DRIVER WINDOW DROPPED TO THE DOOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER WHO CHARGED ME OVER &400 AND STATED THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON FOR ELANTRA. I HAVE ELANTRA TOURING AND MY CAR IS NO QUALIFIED FOR RECALL.
I PURCHASED THE CAR USED, WHEN IT HAD 35,000 MILES ON IT. AROUND 38,000 MILES, I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE AN ENGINE TICKING NOISE AND VIBRATION BEFORE COMING TO A STOP OR WHEN STARTING UP AFTER A STOP. IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR WILL STALL, BUT IT NEVER ACTUALLY STALLS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THE HEAD MECHANIC AT A HYUNDAI DEALER. THE HYUNDAI MECHANIC SAID THE ISSUE IS "COMMON" WITH HYUNDAI ELANTRAS. HE LISTED OFF VARIOUS FIXES HE HAS TRIED, BUT SAID HE CAN'T FIGURE OUT A COMMON CAUSE. WHEN I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT MANY OTHER HYUNDAI ELANTRA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM (E.G. CARCOMPLAINTS.COM). IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY HYUNDAI ELANTRA OWNERS WAITING ON ENGINE REPLACEMENTS, WITH HYUNDAI OFTEN NOT WANTING TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE. I WONDER IF A RECALL IS NEEDED.
INTERMITTENT ENGINE IGNITION FAILURE. ENGINE DOES NOT START WHEN GEAR SHIFT IS IN PARK AND KEY IS PROPERLY INSERTED AND TURNED. GRINDING NOISE AND ENGINE DOES NOT START. PROBLEM OCCURS UP TO FIVE TIMES PER WEEK UPON ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR. THE ISSUE BEGAN IN APRIL 2018 AND IS ONGOING ON A WEEKLY BASIS. THE DEFECT HAS RESULTED IN UNRELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. I REPLACED THE IGNITION COILS AND IGNITION PLATE WAS CLEANED. PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. MECHANIC CANNOT IDENTIFY THE DEFECT. SIMILAR ISSUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH HYUNDAI SONATAS, RESULTING IN A RECALL. MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT INTERMITTENT HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012 IGNITION FAILURE CAN BE FOUND ONLINE.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A STORE PARKING LOT AND WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP. MY FRONT SUSPENSION COLLAPSED. LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO A CAR REPAIR PLACE AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT THERE THROUGH BURNING RUBBER AND INCREDIBLY LOUD NOISE. I BOUGHT THE TIRES A MONTH PRIOR. WHOLE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS REPLACED.
STEERING WHEEL IS WOBBLY. MY MECHANIC SAID HE COULDN'T FIX. NEED TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP

STEERING WHEEL CLICKS WHEN MOVED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT, EVEN WHEN NOT MOVING.
I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE 2012 ELANTRA WITH 85200 MILES. I HAVE HAD IT FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND NOW MY SON OWNS IT (AS OF AUG 2017, MAKING HIM THE THIRD OWNER. HE LIVES WITH ME). THE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED AS REQUIRED. THE TICKING SOUND THE ENGINE MADE SINCE WE GOT THE CAR HAS BEEN STEADILY INCREASING IN SOUND, AND OF RECENT, IT IS THE WORST IT HAS BEEN. I SELL CARS FULL TIME (OUR DEALERSHIP OWNS 2 HYUNDAI STORES), AND I ALSO OWN ANOTHER 2013 ELANTRA THAT I DRIVE PRESENTLY. OUR SERVICE DEPT TOOK APART THE ENGINE (ON THE 2012) TO FIND METAL SHAVINGS WHICH LED TO THE DIAGNOSIS THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. MY SON IS 2000 MILES OUT OF HIS EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND HYUNDAI, NOR THE WARRANTY COMPANY IS EAGER TO FIX IT. I WAS TOLD BY OUR SERVICE DEPT THAT IN THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF, 5 ELANTRAS CAME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM NEEDING NEW ENGINES AND HYUNDAI WOULDN'T REPLACE. HYUNDAI STATES THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO A RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS BECOMING A BIGGER AND BIGGER UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH ELANTRA OWNERS. THE TICKING IS LOUDEST WHEN RUNNING COLD, AND/OR IN COLD WEATHER. (CAR IS IN OHIO). METAL SHAVINGS FROM THE ENGINE FOUND IN THE OIL IS NOT A 'NORMAL' ISSUE. I AM SEEKING RECOURSE WITH HYUNDAI TO FIX/REPLACE MY ENGINE. THE DATE STATED ON THIS FORM AS TO "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" IS WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AT WORK TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE TICKING HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, BUT NEVER AS LOUD AS IT HAS BECOME. MY SON HAS HAD THE CAR AT COLLEGE, BUT I KEEP TRACK OF IT NEEDING OIL CHANGES AND HAVE DOCUMENTATION.
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT DAMAGES AND UNABLE TO LOCATE REPLACEMENT. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT WAS BADLY WORN. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THE MATS CAN NOT BE SOLD SEPARATELY. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE. *JS
ALL OIL CHANGES FOR THIS CAR HAS BEEN DONE AT A DEALERSHIP SINCE MY STEPFATHER BOUGHT THIS CAR. UPON HIS DEATH, THE CAR HAD 111,000 MILES WHEN THE TITLE WAS TRANSFERRED TO ME. COLD WEATHER WAS APPROACHING AND I WANTED TO GET AN OIL CHANGE DONE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT GET ME IN FOR A WEEK AND EVEN CANCELLED AN APPOINTMENT I HAD TO I WENT TO EXHAUST PRO. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GOT TO 20 BELOW ZERO WIND CHILL THE ENGINE STARTED TICKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEM CHANGE OIL BUT THE TICKING PERSISTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT TICKING NOISE AND WAS INFORMED THERE ARE METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL AND ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED COSTING $9400. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2012 AND 2013 ELANTRA BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE LIKE THE SONATA. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE AT NO COST TO ME. IT MAY NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE BUT HYUNDAI KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND NOT THE CONSUMER.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TO FIVE TIMES WITHIN A YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
BOTH VISORS - MECHANISM INSIDE EXPLODED NOW VISORS STUCK IN ODD POSITION WHERE DOES NOT BLOCK SUN AND HITS YOU IN THE FOREHEAD IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT IT WOULD KILL YOU .. THIS IS DEFECT IN PLASTIC MECHANISM THAT HOLDS THE VISOR .. I CAN SEE ONLINE THOUSANDS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.. DEFECTIVE MECHANISM IN VISOR.,
MY AIRBAG LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND HASN'T DISAPPEARED SINCE. I STAYS ON AT ALL TIMES. I HAVE HEAR SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HYUNDAI CUSTOMERS AS WELL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND NO ONE WILL EVEN TOUCH MY CAR FOR THIS REASON.
MY VEHICLE WAS IN CAR ACCIDENT ON 2/13/18, WAS HIT WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET WITH SUCH A FORCE THAT THE CAR WAS PUSHED ACROSS MEDIAN STRIP ONTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHICH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY?
MY STEERING IS LOOSE AND THE WHEEL CLUNKS AND RATTLES. SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL COME RIGHT OFF. I CAN HIT THE SLIGHTEST BUMP AND IT WILL RATTLE AND SHAKE LIKE I RAN OVER A HUGE POT HOLE. ALSO, WHEN I'M DRIVING THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN AND WHINE LIKE I HIT THE BRAKES EVEN WHEN I DIDN'T. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED WHEN I HIT THE GAS BUT THE CAR DECIDED IT WANTED TO SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN A FEW SECONDS LATER. THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG HERE. THE ENGINE IS ALSO MAKING A TICKING/KNOCKING NOISE WHEN WARMING UP. THIS HAPPENS DAILY.
AT 56,000 MILES OR THERE ABOUTS MY ENGINE STARTED TO TICK, HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES SINCE PURCHASED AS A USED VEHICLE IN 2014 WITH 17,000 MILES. THE MECHANICS STATE THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ELANTRA. I AM COVERED UNDER MY 100,000 MILE WARRANTY, YET HYUNDAI REFUSES TO FIX THE ENGINE BLAMING IT ON POOR MAINTENANCE. I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE PUTTING MY TRUST IN THE COMPANY AND NOW MAY END UP PAYING FOR A CAR I CANNOT USE OR MAY KILL ME. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING.
WHEN THE WEATHER GOT COLD THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE BLOCK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND TO CONTACT HYUNDAI SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2012 ELANTRA. FYI: THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER HAS COME ON FOR THIS PROBLEM.
I'VE BEEN FEELING THE CAR PULLING FORWARD FOR A WHILE NOW. IT'S GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN ONLY PRESS ON THE PEDAL A LITTLE SO IT'S DOESNT SPEED UP TO FAST. WHEN THE CAR IS GOING UP HILL IT STARTS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND WHEN YOU LET GO OF THE BREAKS YOU CAN FEEL IT ACCELERATING WITHOUT GIVING IT ANY GAS.
CHANGED OIL AND BRIGHT GOLD LOOKING METAL FLAKES ARE IN THE OIL. MECHANICS SAY THEY ARE PARTS OF THE MAIN BEARINGS. ENGINE IS GOING TO BLOW UP. 62,303MILES
EACH TIME I HIT THE BRAKES THEN RELEASE I HEAR A CLICKING SOUND FROM THE BRAKE PADDLE THAT MAKES ME NERVOUS THAT SOMETHING MAY BE WRONG. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I USE THE BREAKS WHEN DRIVING.
PERIODICALLY (INCLUDING TODAY) MY ELANTRA WILL NOT START. ALL ELECTRONICS TURN ON AND THE BATTERY, ENGINE, OIL INDICATORS APPEAR ON THE DASH. AS MANY OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED I WAIT 5-10 MINUTES AND TRY MY CAR AGAIN IT WILL WORK JUST FINE. HAD A FEW DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE DEALER SUSPECTED BATTERY OR OIL CHANGE BUT I'VE HAD SEVERAL BATTERIES SINCE OEM AND KEEP UP TO DATE ON SYNTHETIC OIL. SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING RANGE SHIFT BEING THE CULPRIT. EITHER WAY I'LL BE TAKING IT TO BE INSPECTED BEFORE IT GETS ANY WORSE/WILL NOT START AT ALL.
INHIBITOR OR RANGE SWITCH WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR IT ONLY MAKES A SINGLE CLICK AND THE DISPLAY DOES NOT ALWAYS SHOW THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK. SOMETIMES SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL ALLOWS FOR A START. SOMETIMES WIGGLING GEAR SHIFT WHILE IN PARK ALLOWS FOR A START. SOMETIMES IT JUST DOESN'T WANT TO START. MECHANIC WON'T REPLACE ANY PART IF THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I'VE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE (2012) AS WELL AS THE 2011 AND 2013 MODELS. THIS CAN SERIOUSLY CAUSE PEOPLE TO BECOME STRANDED!!!
THIS IS A PUSHBUTTON START VEHICLE. INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN THE BUTTON IS PUSHED, THE CAR WON'T START. THIS OCCURS WITH A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY, FOOT DEPRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, ETC. THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH MY LOCAL DEALER PROFESSED TO NEVER HAVE HEARD OF IT. CONSENSUS ONLINE IS THAT IT IS A FAULTY "RANGE SWITCH", RESULTING IN A FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE TO SENSE THAT IT IS IN PARK. DEALERS CLAIM THAT THEY "CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM", AND SO CAN'T FIX IT.
WHILE IN MOTION, CAR JOLTS AS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT BLINKS AS WELL AS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT. ENGINE THEN SHUTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER A 2 MONTH PERIOD, AT A VARIETY OF SPEEDS AND ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS.
AFTER ABOUT 60,000 MILES ALL OF MY EXTERIOR LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY GOING OUT COMPLETELY. WITHIN THE LAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE CHANGED MY BRAKE LIGHTS AT LEAST 8 TIMES. MY HEAD LIGHTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED ABOUT FOUR TIMES AND MY HIGH BEAMS BOTH WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING ON THE INNER STATE AND ALL MY BACK EXTERIOR LIGHTS WENT OUT. SOME DAYS THEY MAY WORK IF I HAVE THE LIGHTS POSITION IN THE ON POSITION INSTEAD OF AUTOMATIC DAYLIGHT POSITION AND VICE VERSA. THIS STARTED HAPPENING ROUGHLY AROUND THE END OF 2017 AND OVER TIME IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE.THIS IS VERY UNSAFE TO OPERATE A VEHICLE AND ALL YOUR LIGHTS GO OUT NOT TO MENTION ITS EXPENSIVE TO CONTINUE TO REPLACE BULBS THAT WON'T WORK BEYOND A MONTH.
ATTEMPTED TO SWITCH LANES ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH. SWITCHED LANES SUCCESSFULLY, BUT COULD NOT STRAIGHT THE STEERING BACK STRAIGHT, CAUSING CRASH INTO CONCRETE BARRIER! AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AFTER BOUNCING BACK OFF OF THE CONCRETE BARRIER.
IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE TO NOT COVER SAFETY CONCERNS AS IT IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI'S MANUFACTURING.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE CAR ACCELERATED BY ITSELF JUMPING THE CURB RUNNING ABOUT 15 FEET AND HITTING A ROCK BEFORE I COULD STOP IT.
STEERING IS LOOSE - HARD TO HANDLE
THE POWER TRAIN DOES NOT SHIFT AT TIMES, STICKS IN 3RD GEAR, POPS IN AND OUT WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30 AND 35 MPH.
THE FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND CAME INTO CONTACT WITH MY TIRE. THE COIL STARTED TO RUB AGAINST MY TIRE UNTIL IT WAS PUNCTURED. I THINK THIS MAY RELATE TO THE RECALL FOR THE 2011 ELANTRA (15V629000).
CLICKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING/ STARTING CAR
MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA BEGAN HAVING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST 6 TO 9 MONTHS. AS I STEP ON THE GAS AT APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 40 MPH THE AUTOMOBILE KICKS, BUCKS AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS INTENDED. MY HYUNDAI DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP/ASSEMBLY ($700) AND IT SEEMED TO GET WORSE.FAILURE TO ACCELERATE AS EXPECTED IS A DANGER IF YOU ARE TRYING TO ENTER A BUSY HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ANOTHER SPEEDING VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR AT SPEEDS UP TO 65 MPH WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS. THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS BUT NOT EVERY DAY.
