The Dealer at Selma Hyundai (2505 Highland Ave. Selma, Ca. 93662) was unable to complete the the recall. Dealer stated “unable to complete PODS update attempted multiple times. Current Scan tool does not support hook-up to cables and option is to update no present. Air bag light due to PODS (passenger occupant ECU) fault with loss of calibration. Scan tool will not communicate with passenger seat module.” “No repair at this time.”
My car has active recalls for the brake switch (prevents brake lights from working properly) and systems related to proper airbag deployment. In addition, there is a service recall (it doesn't show in your database, but it is Hyundai Service Campaign 936 [XXX] ) related to the valve gasket literally dumping oil out to the point that it destroys the alternator - it destroyed my AC Compressor, too! That's not the main point of this, but it's relevant in general. I have been attempting to schedule an appointment to get these issues resolved, but all local dealers tell me the recalls have "expired" and refuse to even look at the car. Some legitimately stop answering the phone when I call at this point, it just rings forever. The online tool to make an appointment from the official Hyundai site has you pick a time to bring the car in, but the dealers to not allot any slots to this so none are available to select. I contacted Hyundai Corporate Customer Service to resolve this, and was told I'd need to "continue trying to work with the dealers." It was no help at all. I am trying to fix the issues myself - my car is currently half-assembled in my garage, and I am technically proficient (I hope!), but it seems ridiculous to be denied service for active safety recalls - and keep in mind, I am only trying to do it myself because the dealers refuse to and I don't want to die in a fiery car crash. I shouldn't be forced to do this. Oh, in addition - Hyundai won't reimburse me for the repairs (I bought my own alternator/compressor once work was refused)... because they aren't being done at a dealership! It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so scummy. Thank you for any help you can offer. I am legitimately losing my mind at this point. The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 212,000.
The driver seat belt locking mechanism has failed. I tried to replace it with OEM manufacturer parts but have been told by Hyundai that the part is not available, it is on back order but will be discontinued before backorder is fulfilled. My question is how can you discontinue manufacturering a part which is mandated by every licensing state? I have filed a complaint with Hyundai but they have ignored my attempts to resolve this. I need help to return my vehicle to safety standards.
The vehicle, (2007 Hyundai Santa Fe in excellent condition) struck a cow head on at 60 miles per hour and the airbags failed to deploy. It is available on request for a few months. The three occupants of the vehicle suffered from banging around inside. Concussion and sore muscles a few minor cuts but were otherwise very lucky. There was no prior indication of a problem with the airbags.

TAKATA RECALL: AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED. SEVERAL YEARS OF SANTA FE HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WHEN CHECKING MY VIN, NO RECALL APPEARS. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER YEARS.
TAKATA RECALL : I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY AIRBAGS DO NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED OR ARE NOT LISTED FOR RECALL. IN THE SUMMERTIME THIS VEHICLE SITS IN 90 TO 100 OF A TEMPERATURES WITH THE AIRBAG BEING EXPOSED TO THIS HIGH HEAT.. WHEN I DO A VIN SEARCH THE ONLY THING THAT COMES UP IS A RECALL FOR THE HARNESS HITCH WHICH HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE A TOW HITCH ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V472000 (AIR BAGS), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
TAKATA RECALL ABOUT MAY 2016 AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT MALFUNCTION, DASH LIGHT STAYS ON, PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE PASSENGER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP ON 8/18/16, AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT "PROBLEM DUE TO A MAKEUP BAG WEDGED UNDER PASSENGER SEAT CAUSING POOR CONTACT AT CONNECTORS." WITHIN 4 DAYS, AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER LIGHT WERE MALFUNCTIONING AS INITIALLY DESCRIBED ABOVE. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP ON 9/8/16 FOR SAME PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP DID A PODS RESET, A RECALIBRATION AS I UNDERSTAND IT. AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER LIGHT WORKED FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE THEY MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AS INITIALLY DESCRIBED ABOVE. FURTHER COMMUNICATION WITH DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TO INFORM ME THAT THE "OCS MAT IS $2473.50 PLUS $312.50 FOR INSTALL. THAT'S THE WHOLE SEAT. HYUNDAI DOES NOT OFFER IT SEPARATE." THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THIS IS NOT MY BILL TO FOOT, IT'S HYUNDAI'S. IN THE MEANTIME, I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE AIRBAG PROTECTION.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. DEALERSHIP FOUND CODE B1495. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PART , FOR THIS YEAR ON OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS. PLEASE NOTE THAT MY AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT IS ON AND I HAVE HAD THE LIGHT RESET MORE THAN SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN DRIVING THE LIGHT WILL GO ON AGAIN AND AGAIN. I HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM TWICE AND THEY HAVE RESET THE LIGHT AND THAT DID NOT WORK. ON 4.26.2016 THE DEALER TOOK THE SEAT OUT AND CLEANED ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS AND SEALED WITH CONNECTER SEALANT. THE DEALER STATED ON THE BILL THAT IF THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN THEN THEY WILL HAVE TO ORDER A FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY. THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON 4.26.2016 THREE HOURS LATER. I DROVE TO WORK 4.27.2016 AND THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. MY CONCERN IS WHY THE CONSUMER HAS TO BEAR THE COST OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT MY FAMILY IS IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE IN REGARDS TO THE AIR BAG ISSUE I AM HAVING. IS THIS A PLOY FOR HYUNDAI TO FORCE YOU TO BUY A NEW CAR THAT IS 8 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAVING 85,080 MILES ON THE CAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND THE TIME AND MONEY THAT I HAVE PUT IN TO TRYING TO MAKE MY 2007 SANTA FE SAFE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT, THE ELECTRIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) LIGHT , ABS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED STEADILY ON THE DASH, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON. THE GAS GAUGE SOMETIMES WORKS EVEN WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE NOT RECALL RELATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES BUT RESTATED THE POSITION OF THE DEALER, OFFERING NO HELP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000

I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY WHEN HIT FROM BEHIND. THE DRIVER CLAIMS HE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH YET MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE AND IS IT NORMAL?
