I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE, EX. POWER FAILURE, SPEED CONTROL SENSORS BEING REPLACED CONSTANTLY AND TOO MUCH TO LIST. MY VEHICLE IS CONSTANTLY IN THE SHOP SOME INCIDENTS COULD BE ACCIDENT CAUSING. I HAVE REPORTED TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, MY NEXT STEP IS FILING A PERSONAL LAWSUIT AGAINST THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE SOLD ME THE VEHICLE. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME, I FEAR THAT MY CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE.*AK
THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITH NO WARNING AND NO IMPACT.*JB

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED. *JB
THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING THE REAR WHEEL BEARING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. *JB
THE AUTOMOBILE COMPANY MISREPRESENTED AND MISLEAD THE CONSUMER ON THE PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS.*DT *JB
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, THE FLAMES ORIGINATED FROM THE DASHBOARD AREA, POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. TS *JB
I PURCHASED A NEW 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS FROM SCHAUMBURG HYUNDAI (IL) IN NOVEMBER 2000, AND HAD EXISTING DAMAGE OR TRAFFIC CRASHES WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL ON 10/07/2002, WHEN I WAS FORCED OFF THE ROADWAY BY A TRUCK AND STRUCK THE SIDE OF A ROCKY MOUNTAIN HEAD-ON. THE FORCE WAS ENOUGH TO BEND THE MIDDLE OF THE CAR'S FRAME AND TOTAL THE CAR. I WAS THRUST VIOLENTLY FORWARD AT IMPACT, AND SUFFERED MINOR NECK AND BACK INJURIES, AND HAD BEEN PROPERLY USING THE SEATBELT. HOWEVER, NONE OF THE CAR'S FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAGS DEFLATED AT TIME OF IMPACT. THIS CONCERNS ME GREATLY SINCE I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND AWARE OF PRODUCT DEFECTS, AND RECALLS WHICH EFFECT PUBLIC SAFETY. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SCHAUMBURG HYUNDAI DEALER AND ALSO HYUNDAI MOTOR FINANCE, NEITHER OF WHICH RESPONDED FAVORABLY TO THIS CONCERN. I GUESS IT MUST ACTUALLY TAKE A DEATH TO GET THEIR PROPER ATTENTION! I CHECKED THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND REGRETABLLY LOCATED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BY OTHER CONSUMERS.

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THE AIR BAG COULD BE INOPERATIVE IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED. *NLM CONSUMER STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS SERVICED THREE TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *YH
WHILE DRIVING PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT BEING IN AN ACCIDENT.*AK
REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE SEATBELT WILL NO LONGER RETRACT.*AK
CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE COLLISION. CONSUMER STATES NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. TWO DAYS LATER CONSUMER RECIEVED A RECALL LETTER ON THE SIDE AIRBAGS. *JB THERE WAS ONE INJURY. *YH
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV EXCESSIVELY HIGH AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND VIBRATED. IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED VIOLENTLY INTO GEAR. THERE WAS NO POWER RESPONSE DURING ACCELERATION, WHICH RESULTED IN THE ENGINE STALLING INTERMITTENTLY. THE WARNING INDICATOR ALSO ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE MASS DAMPER WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SIX SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE REPAIRS CONSISTED OF A COMPLETE TUNE UP, REPLACEMENT OF THE "OUTPUT" SPEED SENSOR, AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED TWICE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE EXPIRED AT 60,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,559 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,505.
WHILE DRIVING AND UPON ACCELERATION, VEHICLE REMAINS IN DRIVE, BUT DOES NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO NETURAL, AT TIMES BECOMING STUCK IN BETWEEN GEARS. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK. CONSUMER STATED WHEN VEHICLE IS MOVING TO SHIFT FROM LOW TO HIGH IT SITS IN BETWEEN GEARS AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE, DEALER STATED THERE IS NO PROBLEM.*JB
THE PAINT ON THE CAR HAS COME OFF GOING THROUGH THE CAR WASH. THE FRONT END SQUEAKS. THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR STOPPED WORKING. THE RADIO TURNS OFF/ON AT RANDOM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON/OFF AT RANDOM. DT
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES DURING EMERGENCY STOP, PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, HOWEVER THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *AK. CONSUMER STATES UNABLE TO LOCK BRAKES, THE DEALER STATED THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE.*JB
VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN PARKED IN GARAGE WHEN IT BURST INTO FLAMES. VEHICLE AND GARAGE BURNED TO THE GROUND. INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR DETERMINED CAUSE WAS IGNITION COIL THAT IS LOCATED RIGHT BELOW TRANSMISSION FLUID SPOUT. REPORTED BY INSURANCE AGENT.*AK

VIOLENT VIBRATION OCCURS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND REPLACED ROTORS TWICE. REPLACEMENT OF ROTORS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
DURING A VEHICLE CRASH AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK
MY 2000 SONATA STALLS AND OR FLUTTERS INTERMITTENLY WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND SOMETIMES FROM 2ND TO THIRD. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BUT STILL IS DOING THE SAME THING. IT HAS BEEN IN THE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANY TIMES BUT I AM TOLD "NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT" THERE WAS A LOUD CLANK WHEN SHIFTING GEARS EVEN WHEN PARKED. ONE OF THE MAIN REP FROM HYUNDAI CAME AND CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID IT WAS FINE. HE ALSO DROVE THE CAR, BUT THE WAY HE DROVE IT WAS LIKE AT BEING AT AN INDY 500. I ASKED HIM TO COMPARE MY CAR WITH ANY OTHER CAR ON THE LOT TO SEE IF THE NOISE WAS NORMAL, HE REFUSED. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE 3 BOLTS HAD BACKED OUT OF THE HOUSING THUS CAUSING THE CLANKING NOISE. IT STILL FLUTTERS. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM SINCE 11-2001. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 3-2000. NEW. THE SENSOR ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE.*AK
CONSUMER STATES AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON FOR THE FIFTH TIME. DEALER REPLACED ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS. HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. *TT
WHILE USING THE "FLASH TO PASS" FEATURE ON THE TURN,LIGHT STALK,THE STALK BROKE OFF IN MY HAND.*AK
THIS CAR WAS WRECKED PRIOR TO PURCHASE I WAS JUST TOLD THIS AFTER HAVING REPORTED THAT THE CAR HAS PULLED TO THE RIGHT SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. THEY DID REPAIRS TO REAR WHEELS, FRONT END ALIGNMENT, CAR CONTINUES TO PULL AND HARD TO KEEP ON ROAD. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT, I WAS NOT INFORMED I PURCHASED A PREVIOUSLY WRECKED CAR OR I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. DON'T REALLY KNOW WHERE TO GO OR WHAT TO DO BUT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS AND DIFFICULT TO KEEP ON THE ROAD. I NEED SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PROCEED. JUST HAD A 30,000 SERVICE AND ASKED WHY CAR CAN'T BE FIXED WAS TOLD IT HAS BEEN WRECKED AND FRAME IS BENT, IT CANNOT BE FIXED. PLEASE ADVISE ME AS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO. THANK YOU WANDA KING. *AK
THE BACK WINDOW WAS LEFT DOWN WHEN WE PARKED. MY SON, 6 YEARS OLD, WENT TO PUT IT UP. SOMEHOW HE STUCK HIS HEAD IN THROUGH THE OPENING AND ACCIDENTALLY CONTINUED TO PUT UP THE ELECTRIC WINDOW. THE WINDOW CAUGHT HIM IN THE MOUTH, WITH HIS HEAD ON ONE SIDE OF THE WINDOW AND HIS CHIN ON THE OTHER. HE WAS STUCK. I TURNED OFF THE KEY. I THEN TURNED THE KEY BACK ON AND PUSHED THE BUTTON TO LOWER THE WINDOW. I'M NOT SURE IF HE WAS PUSHING THE WRONG BUTTON, BUT IT WENT UP MORE. WE THEN MANAGED TO LOWER THE WINDOW. HE WAS BLEEDING ON THE SIDES OF HIS MOUTH. NOTHING STOPPED THE WINDOW FROM GOING UP EVEN WITH HIS HEAD IN THERE. WE WERE LUCKY NOTHING MORE SERIOUS HAPPENED. IF HE HAD BEEN SMALLER CHILD OR IF HIS NECK HAD BEEN IN THERE, THIS MIGHT HAVE HAD A TRAGIC ENDING. WHILE STARTING ENGINE HEARD NOISE. OPENED HOOD AND NOTICED POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK POWER STEERING FLUIDS LEAKING DUE TO RACK AND PINION FAILURE. *YH
BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPPED AND CAUSING A LOW BRAKE PEDEL AND A DANGEROUS SHIMMY IN THE WHEEL WHEN EVER I TRY TO STOP. THEY RESURFACED BOTH FRONT ROTORS ON 4/11/01 WITH 12,400 MILES. AT 29,000 MILES THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.FIRST THEY STATED IT WAS CAUSED BY MY DRIVING, THEN I WAS TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY GOING THRU PUDDLES. THEN I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY HEAT AND THEY DO NOT COVER HEAT RELATED PROBLEMS. THE ROTORS ARE COVERED FOR 5 YEARS, 60,000 MILES, BUT NOT FOR THE ABOVE REASONS.

ON NOV.6TH 2008. I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT WHEN I HEARD A LOUD,"BOOM". THE CAR STOPPED AND THE ENGINE DROPPED. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD BLOWN MY TIRE. I GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND CHECKED THE TIRES,THEY WEREN'T FLAT BUT MY RIGHT FRONT TIME LAID SLIGHTLY TITLED INWARD. I COULDN'T MOVE MY CAR. MY DAUGHTER,GRANDSON AND I WERE SHAKEN. THERE WAS RUST AND A BARING LYING IN THE ROAD. THEY CAME FROM MY CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE RIGHT AXLE HAD BROKEN. AFTER HE CHECKED THE CAR,HE TOLD ME THE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS CRACKED BADLY. HE SAID THAT'S WHY I HEARD THE BOOM AND THE DROP. I RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT HYUNDAI HAS A SAFETY ISSUES WITH THESE SUBFRAMES. THIS IS A LIFE-THREATENING ISSUE! THE POTENTIAL FOR GRAVE HARM IS IMMENSE. I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR NOW. IT WILL HAVE TO TOWED TO A GARAGE. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. ALL 3 OF US COULD'VE BEEN INJURED IF I HAD BEEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR, THE PEDAL PUMPED HARD FIVE TIMES AND THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKES DO NOT SEEM TO HOLD IN A PANIC SITUATION, THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED ME WAS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ONCE RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT THE OTHER TIME A CLOSE CALL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR AND WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE IT AND I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR, THE DEALER SHIP SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, BUT I ACTUALLY WAS STANDING THERE WWHEN ANOTHE MAN COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING , HE ONLY HAD 1500 MILES ON HIS CAR, A HYUNDAI, ALSO THE COUNTER MAN ASSISTANT SERVICE PERSON ALSO TOLD ME ABOUT ANOTHER MAN BROUGHT HIS CAR IN JUST PRIOR TO ME. WINDOW COMES OFF TRACK, MUST USE 2 HANDS TO CLOSE WINDOW, 1 HAND ON BUTTON, 1 HAND TO GUIDE WINDOW UP, IF I AM LUCKY ENOUGH FOR IT NOT TO COME OFF TRACK, WINDOW WILL NOT CLOSE PROPERLY ON ITS OWN,WINDOW HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FOURTH TIME AS OF 11/15/2000. *AK
AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT IS DEFECTIVE. REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACK-ORDER. AIR BAGS ARE INOPERABLE, AND (AS A RESULT) POSE A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS.ARD
THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON. THE DISTRICT MANGER, JEFF WESTLAND OUT OF N.J., (609) 395-7308 STATED THAT HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF A DEFECT IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT (LATE 1999'S & EARLY 2000'S THAT ROLLED OFF THE ASSEMBLY) WHICH MAKES THE LIGHT COME ON IF A PERSON MOVES AROUND IN THE SEAT, EXCESSIVE WEIGHT OF A PASSENGER, OR PUTTING ANY OBJECT UNDER THE SEAT. WHAT I FIND OUTRAGEOUS ABOUT THIS, IS THE LAST TWO TIMES I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN, I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS NOT ON. WHEN I SPOKE WITH MR. WESTLAND, HE WANTED ME TO LEAVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS AT THE DEALSHIP, FIRST TEAM, SO THEY COULD GO OVER IT BUMPER TO BUMPER. ON JANUARY 8, 2001 I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER SO THEY COULD LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WHICH WAS ON AGAIN. ON THAT EVENING, AT APPROXIMATELY 5:00, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALSHIP, ASKING IF I COULD COME INTO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING TO DRIVE WITH ONE OF THEIR MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS UNABLE TO DO SO BECAUSE OF WORK. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD NOT BEEN ON . I PICKED UP THE CAR THAT EVENING SINCE, "NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT" AND WOULD BE UNABLE TO TEST DRIVE IT WITH A MECHANIC. . I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS NOT BEEN ON THE LAST SEVERAL TIMES WHEN IT HAS BEEN. THE TRANSMISSION SPORATICALLY DOWNSHIFTS WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON A STRAIGHT AND LEVEL SURFACE AT A CONSTANT SPEED. IT ALSO HESITATES SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP. IF ACCELERATED UP TO 45MPH SPEED SLOWED DOWN, AND CONSUMER HAD TO RELEASE THE SPEED, TRANSMISSION WAS STALLING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE A YEAR THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND THEY ADJUSTED THE HARNESS AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONTACT THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT CORRECT WITH THE WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE SEAT, CAUSING THE LIGHT TO COME ON. *AK
