WE OWN A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA THAT HAS AN AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON. OUR DEALER HAS TRIED 3 TIMES UNSUCCESSFULLY TO FIX IT. A MONTH OR TWO AGO OUR ABS AND AIR BAG LIGHTS CAME ON. WE PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED AND A WEEK OR SO LATER THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT BACK OFF A FEW TIMES OVER THE NEXT WEEK. IT THEN STAYED ON SO WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT CONNECTOR THAT NEEDED REPLACED AGAIN. THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN FREE OF CHARGE AND ABOUT A WEEK LATER IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. A FEW WEEKS WENT BY AND THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE SO THEY WOULD REPLACE IT AGAIN FREE OF CHARGE. LESS THAN A WEEK WENT BY AND THE LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON. WE HAD IT BACK IN TO THE DEALER TODAY, THE FOURTH TIME FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW THEY SAY IT IS THE SAME PART BUT THIS TIME ITS THE DRIVERS SIDE INSTEAD OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. WE BELIEVE THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN IN ADJUSTING THE POSITION OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THINKING BACK, EVERY TIME THE LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON IT HAS BEEN ON MY LUNCH HOUR WHEN I DECIDED TO EAT LUNCH IN THE CAR AND I MOVED MY SEAT BACK ALL THE WAY. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND CASES WHERE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED TO MOVE THE DRIVER SEAT FORWARD AND BACKWARDS AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,586.
PREVIOUSLY REPORTED SUSPENSION FAILURE CAUSED ACCIDENT. AIR BAG LIGHT DID NOT DEPLOY BUT CAME ON AND STAYED ON GIVING ERROR CODE. TODAY THE AUTO BODY SHOP DOING THE REPAIRS TO MY CAR STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER'S IN BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS ARE NOT WORKING AND BOTH NEED REPLACED AS WELL AS THE AIR BAG SENSORS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE.
THE DRIVER AIRBAG SIGN LIT UP IN DASHBOARD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE BUCKLE SENSORS HAD FAILED. I ASKED HOW THIS HAPPENED AND THEY SAID, "THERE IS NOTHING YOU COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS" . IT HAPPENS AND YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY. I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH 2006 SONATA HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2006 HYUNDAI SONATA DROOPING SUN VISOR, COMES DOWN WHILE DRIVING. HYUNDAI WILL NOT RECALL THE SUN VISOR ALTHOUGH THIS IS KNOW PROBLEM AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HYUNDAI IS SHIFTING THE RESPONSIBILITY OF REPAIR ONTO THE OWNER OF VEHICLE WHICH COSTS $80 PER SUN VISOR AND AN INSTALLATION OF $20 PER VISOR. BASICALLY, $200 FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS NOT THE DRIVERS FAULT, BUT A FAULTY DESIGN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ONE LANE. ONE MORNING THAT I STARTED THE CAR, MY AIRBAG LIGHT WOULDN'T GO OFF AFTER THE START-UP. IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS SINCE THIS LIGHT CAME ON, AND I BROUGHT IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER. AFTER THEIR DIAGNOSTIC, THEY SAID IT'S A SENSOR IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT HAD SHORTEN OUT AND IT'S CAUSING AIRBAG SIGN TO COME ON. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS MEANS THAT IN CASE OF ACCIDENT THAT MY DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAG WOULDN'T INFLATE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM AFTER READING SEVERAL WEBSITES ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL AND YEAR'S AIRBAG LIGHT PROBLEM, BUT HYUNDAI IS KEEP DENYING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. ANOTHER THING THAT IT'S SHOCKING TO ME IS THAT IN CASE A PERSON IS DRIVING WITHOUT A SEATBELT, AIRBAG WOULDN'T INFLATE, JUST AS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN SEATBELT BUCKLE CAN CAUSE MALFUNCTION IN DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME..WHY WOULD A CAR MAKER WOULD EVER DESIGN A SYSTEM LIKE THIS? TO PUNISH PEOPLE WHO ARE DRIVING WITHOUT A SEATBELT? WHEN I ASKED THIS QUESTION, THE HYUNDAI DEALER REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT HE DOESN'T MAKE A CAR BUT THERE TO SELL IT! *TR
HINGE ON DRIVER SIDE VISOR OF 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS HAS BROKE AND VISOR NO LONGER STAYS UP. WENT TO PULL VISOR DOWN TO BLOCK SUN AND IT SNAPPED AND NOW THE VISOR JUST HANGS THERE. I HAVE TO FLIP THE VISOR BACKWARDS INTO THE BRACKET TO KEEP IT OUT OF VIEW. HAVE CONTACT DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I AM 4 MONTHS OUT OF MY WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT ME PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS. AFTER VIEWING MULTIPLE FORUMS, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE. I AM REALLY SURPRISED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL PLACED FOR THESE. THEY POSE SUCH A HAZARD IN BLOCKING ONES VIEW FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC, STOP LIGHTS, PEDESTRIANS, ETC. CONSIDERING ALL THE ISSUES THAT HYUNDAI USED TO HAVE WITH THEIR VEHICLES, YOU WOULD THINK THAT THIS WOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN SOMETHING THAT THEY WOULD HAVE CORRECTED AND PLACED A RECALL FOR. *TR

THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR STOPPED WORKING. IT DOES NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. APPARENTLY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR

PIECE OF PLASTIC ON SUNVISOR SUPPORT CRACKED, AND NOW IT WON'T STAY UP, IMPAIRING VISION. I ALMOST RAN THROUGH A RED LIGHT THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE IT BLOCKS THE VIEW OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THE SUN VISOR OF THE DRIVERS SIDE RECENTLY FELL AND IT WON'T STAY UP WITH THE VELCRO STAPLED. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. IT CAN OBSTRUCT MY VIEW AND BE DISTRACTING.

THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAULT WITHIN THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE THAT WAS CAUSING THE AIR BAG LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE CONSTANTLY. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELT ONLY THE AIR BAGS. THE DEALER STATED THAT IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE FAILURE, THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,878.
DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION ON 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA, WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 06V-234 AND WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $200 TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
2006 HYUNDAI SONATA SUN VISOR ON PASSENGER SIDE BROKE AFTER 60,000 MILES AND APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS MAKING IT JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR NOW HANGS LOOSELY AND DOES NOT RETAIN ITS POSITION OUT OF THE WAY OF DRIVER'S VISION. VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE PROPERLY WITH THE BROKEN SUN VISOR. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. IN A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH, THIS IS A _VERY_ COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THE HYUNDAI 2006 - 2008 SONATAS. THIS CONDITION CAUSES REDUCED VISION TO ON COMING TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIANS. IF HYUNDAI READS THE FORUMS, THEY ALREADY KNOW THIS IS A PRODUCT DESIGN DEFECT. IF THEY TRACK THE SERVICE INCIDENT RATE OF REPLACED SUN VISORS ON THIS MODEL, THEY WOULD ALSO KNOW THIS IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN. THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR

WHEN SHE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE COMPRESSION PULLEY IN THE ENGINE HAD BROKEN. BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. ECS WARNING LIGHT ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN TURNING KEY IN IGNITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE SINCE, WITH ESC AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON WHILE DRIVING.

THE PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM AIRBAG SENSOR HAS FAILED. THE CAR HAS 75,000 MILES. NO OTHER AIRBAG OR SEAT BELT PROBLEMS. THERE IS A TSB FROM HYUNDAI TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BUT THE COST IS $1100. HYUNDAI WILL NOT FIX THIS AIR BAG FAILURE UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

A CERTIFIED MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE SPEED DROPS TO APPROXIMATELY 1000 - 1100 RPM, HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM OR BRIEFLY SHUT OFF, RADIO WILL SHUT OFF, AND INTERIOR FAN SPEED WILL DROP. THIS HAPPENS FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND AND IS INTERMITTENT. FROM SEARCHES OF THE INTERNET, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE ASSEMBLY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN HANDLED VIA A RECALL, ESPECIALLY SINCE HEADLIGHTS DIMMING OFF OR SHUTTING OFF DURING NIGHT DRIVING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS TO THIS CAR. IN ADDITION, PROBABLY DUE TO THIS VOLTAGE DROP PROBLEM, SEVERAL HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS ETC., HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAS ALREADY COST ME SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS IN TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR, PRIOR TO LEARNING ABOUT THE CABLE ASSEMBLY. *TR

2006 HYUNDAI SONATA AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL IS ON. TOLD BY MECHANIC THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.. IT WOULD COST US $2,500.00. THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE, AND I HAVE HEARD AND READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. I FEEL HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS DUE TO THEIR POOR DESIGN AND THE REPAIR COST IS MORE THAN 10% OF THE COST OF A NEW CAR. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE (AND THE PASSENGER SIDE) SUN VISOR FALL DOWN(DROOP) WHILE DRIVING AND HAS BEEN CAUSING SERIOUS VISIBILITY ISSUES. *TR
I LOST THE ABILITY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIME WITH OTHER PEOPLE DRIVING. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING WILL "LOCK" AND NOT TURN TO THE RIGHT ALMOST AS IF THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED, BUT I HAVE HAD THIS CHECKED AND SINCE IT'S INTERMITTENT, DIAGNOSES IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE, THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND SYSTEM WAS CHECKED AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK FINE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF FIGHTING THE WHEEL THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SNAP BACK AND ALL SEEMS FINE. I HAVE READ OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. ONE TECHNICIAN SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A VALVE IN THE RACK AND PINION GOING OUT. I MUST STATE THAT THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT AND ONLY AFTER DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF IT'S A FLAW IN THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM ITSELF. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR FOR THIS IS REPLACEMENT OF THE RACK AND PINION AT A COST OF OVER $1000. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

AFTER THE INCIDENT, VEHICLE WAS SERVICED; HOWEVER, THE "AIR BAG" SIGN RE-APPEARED AFTER A FEW MONTHS. ANOTHER ACCIDENT ON 7/3/2013. FRONT END FENDER-BENDER. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AGAIN.
