TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE SHE WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE ROTORS WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS PREVIOUSLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,237 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,900.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I OWN A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THIS PAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE MICHELIN TIRES NEED REPLACING. THEY ARE CRACKED IN THE SIDEWALL. MICHELIN GUARANTEES THESE TIRES FOR 6 YEARS AND THE TIRE COMPANY I WENT TO SAID THAT I REALLY SHOULD REPLACE THEM FOR SAFETY REASONS.ARE WE FACING ANOTHER FIRESTONE INCIDENT? IF I HADN'T HAD A FLAT TIRE I WOULD HAVE NEVER DISCOVERED THIS. THE TIRE COMPANY SAID MICHELIN WAS REALLY GREAT TO WORK WITH THEY ALLOWED ME 65% ON MY TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN DRIVENLESS THAN 14,000 MILES. I WOULD ONLY HAVE TO PAY $474.00 DOLLARS FOR NEW TIRES. I THINK THAT A TIRE THAT IS GIVING AWAY IN THE SIDEWALL SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE !!! WHAT IF I WASN'T APPRAISED OF THE SITUATION AND HAD A BLOWOUT. I HAVEN'T REPLACED THEM YET BECAUSE OF COST. SHOULD I STOP DRIVING THE CAR ? WASN'T FIRESTONE IN TROUBLE FOR FAULTY TIRES ? WHAT ABOUT OTHER DRIVERS OUT THERE WITH A SIMILAR SITUATION ? I HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SONOTA AND BOTH OF THE SUN VISORS HAVE BROKEN. THEY WILL NOT STAY UP AND OUT OF MY LINE OF VISION WHEN I AM DRIVING. THEY DID NOT BREAK UNTIL A FEW HUNDRED MILES OUT OF WARANTY, AND THE DEALERSHIPS WANT OVER $250 TO FIX THEM WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA 3.3L FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE SENSOR AND COMPUTER PROGRAMMING CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP ACCELERATING. THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND ESC OFF LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED AT 65 MPH IN VERY BUSY MORNING TRAFFIC WHEN THIS OCCURRED, PUTTING THE TWO OCCUPANTS IN A POTENTIALLY EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN INSIDE LANE BEHIND A HEAVY TRUCK AND BESIDE ANOTHER HEAVY TRUCK WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WENT TO IDLE. THIS OCCURRED ON I-84 IN THE BOISE, ID CORRIDOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER VIA HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THERE WAS NO ADVANCE INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE CAUSED A POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH GENERAL EXCLAIM TIRES, SIZE P215/55/R17. THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE PURCHASED ON JANUARY 2, 2010. HE REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE ON MARCH 20, 2010, WHICH HAD A BLISTER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE TIRE BACK TO PLACE HE PURCHASED IT FROM AND WAS ADVISED THAT HE DID NOT PURCHASE A WARRANTY. THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE ALSO HAD A BLISTER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
MY 2007 SONATA HAD ONLY 18,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE REAR BRAKES KEPT SQUEAKING & LOCKING UP. THIS WORE THE PADS DOWN AND THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE SLIDERS WERE RUSTING UP AND STOPPED WORKING. I ARGUED WITH HYUNDAI THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL AND THEY SAID IT DEPENDED ON THE DRIVER. I AM 65 YEARS OLD HAD MANY VEHICLES, AND HAVE NEVER RODE THE BRAKES, NOR CHANGED MY DRIVING HABITS. NOW I HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN AT 28,000 MILES AND MY BRAKES ARE ACTUALLY BURNING AT TIMES. EVERY TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED THE CAR SEEMS TO POWER DOWN. THE HEADLIGHTS DIM, DASH LIGHTS DIM, FAN SLOWS, AND INSIDE CAR LIGHTS DIM. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME IT'S PRESSED. THE LIGHTS SEEM TO DIM MORE IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT A FASTER PACE AND PRESS HARDER ON THE BRAKES VERSE DRIVING SLOWLY AND EASING ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED AND CHECKED OVER SEVERAL TIMES FOR ANY SORT OF DEFECT. ALSO THE ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED RECENTLY AND CHECKED OVER FOR ANY DEFECTS. THESE WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE THOUGHT TO BE THE PROBLEM BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS EVERYDAY EVERYTIME THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. HE ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE AT A LATER DATE IF THE NOISE PERSISTED. THE NOISE CONTINUED AND THE DEALER, AGAIN, COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,565 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH ONLY 28,000 MILES. I HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES COMPLETELY REPLACED DUE TO DIRT CAUSING RUST AND SCORED. I BELIEVE THE CAR'S BRAKES HAS A DESIGN ERROR AND A POTENTIALLY FATAL FLAW IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM DESIGN AND OPERATION. *TR
THE CAR STARTED WITH VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SO I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER 3 FUSE BOXES IT WAS FIXED BUT THEY BLEW THE WINDSHIELD WASHER MOTOR. DUE TO A MOVE I WASN'T ABLE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE BRAKE LIGHTS FIRST THE DRIVERS SIDE NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE ARE SCORCHED AND BRAKE LIGHTS BULBS LAST ONLY ABOUT 6 MONTHS. THESE WERE REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL BUT HAVE AGAIN SCORCHED SINCE. NOW THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH. NO RESULTS YET FOR REPAIR SINCE MY APPOINTMENT ISN'T UNTIL MONDAY. *TR
THE SUN VISOR OVER MY DRIVER SIDE 2007 SONATA HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN. I WENT TO ADJUST IT AND IT MADE A CRACKLE NOISE AND CAN NO LONGER STAY UP AND OUT OF THE WAY. THIS IS BLOCKING VISIBILITY OF THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS. *TR
2007 HYUNDAI SONATA - DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP OR DOWN. HAS TO BE TIED IN UP POSITION OR HITS DRIVER IN THE FOREHEAD. VERY ANNOYING, POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. DEALER SAYS - "IF VEHICLE UNDER 60,000 MILES, WILL REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY." SEEING INTERNET FULL OF SAME PROBLEMS, LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL FREE TO OWNER NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE BRACKET NEEDED TO BE WELDED INTO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON NOVEMBER 22, 2009 I PURCHASED 4 NEW YOKOHAMA TIRES FROM NTB, MENTOR OHIO WHO INSTALLED THEM ON A 2007 HYANDAI SONATA, REPLACING THE ORIGINAL MICHELIN TIRES. THE TIRES WERE AS530, DOT #CCLM 825 1309 4 31911 SIZE 215/55R17 94V, 31911. THE TIRES WERE RATED FOR MUD AND SNOW FOR 60,000. THE TIRES APPEARED TO PERFORM FINE, UNTIL IT SNOWED. IN SNOW, THE TIRES HAD VIRTUALLY NO TRACTION AT ALL. THIS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR PERFORMED VERY WILL FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS ON ITS ORIGINAL MICHELIN TIRES. WITH THE NEW TIRES, THE CAR LITERALLY GOT STUCK REPEATEDLY IN SNOW IN FEBRUARY, 2010. FINALLY, ON FEBRUARY 27, 2010, MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR. SHE WAS STOPPED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, WAITING TO TURN LEFT INTO A SHOPPING MAILL ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC COMING TOWARD HER IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. ALL HAD GREEN LIGHTS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. WHEN SHE HAD TIME TO TURN WITH A BREAK IN THE TRAFFIC, THE TIRES SPUN IN THE SNOW, DELAYING THE TURN. SHE WAS HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR BECAUSE OF THIS DELAY. BOTH CARS WERE TOTAL LOSSES, BUT NOBODY WAS INJURED. THESE TIRES SHOULD BE RECALLED OR AT LEAST LOSE THE MUD AND SNOW DESIGNATION. I HAVE DRIVEN FRONT DRIVE CARS FOR 30 YEARS AND NEVER GOT STUCK IN SNOW. THESE TIRES ARE SERIOUSLY DEFECTIVE. PLEASE TAKE THEM OFF THE MARKET.
I HAD TAKEN MY 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA TO TOWNE HYUNDAI IN DENVILLE, NJ. THE XM RADIO MYSTERIOUSLY STOPPED WORKING ONE DAY. XM CORPORATION HAD DONE TROUBLESHOOTING WITH THE CAR AND DETERMINED THAT THE SIGNAL WAS REACHING THE CAR AND ADVISED ME TO BRING IT TO HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI NOTED THAT THE TOP BOX FOR THE XM RADIO WHICH IS LOCATED IN A GULLEY IN THE TRUNK BEHIND THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL HAD RUSTED AND THAT THERE WAS WATER IN MY TRUNK. I WAS PROVIDED WITH A COPY OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HYUNDAI HAD WRITTEN NOTING THAT "WATER MAY ENTER THE TRUNK THROUGH BODY SEAMS, WELDS, BODY PLUGS" AND THAT ANY SUSPECT WATER ENTRY POINT WOULD NEED TO BE SEALED TO CORRECT FURTHER DAMAGE FROM OCCURRING. THE XM TOP BOX IS COMPLETELY NON-FUNCTIONAL DUE TO THE WATER DAMAGE/EXCESSIVE RUST. HYUNDAI CORPORATION HAS THUS FAR REFUSED TO COVER THE DEFECTIVE BODY SEALS WHICH IS CAUSING FURTHER RUSTING OF THE BODY OF THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AS SAFETY CONCERNS IF THIS VEHICLE WERE EVER IN AN ACCIDENT. HYUNDAI HAS ALSO REFUSED TO COVER ANY REPLACEMENT COSTS RELATING TO THE XM RADIO TOP BOX. HYUNDAI HAS NOT BEEN PROACTIVE IN NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS OF THIS DEFECT AND CONTINUALLY REFUSES TO MAKE GOOD ON ITS 7 YEAR/UNLIMITED MILEAGE ANTI-PERFORATION WARRANTY FOR A DEFECT THEY KNOW EXISTS. *TR

I HAVE NOTICED AN UNUSUAL PERCENTAGE OF HYUNDAI SONATAS WITH THE HIGH VISIBILITY BRAKES LIGHTS THAT DO NOT OPERATE. I CHECKED INTO HAVING IT REPAIRED AND THE ESTIMATE WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. I WONDERED IF THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT SINCE ACCESS TO THE LIGHT IS SO DIFFICULT. I WAS CURIOUS IF OTHER COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN FILED AND IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE. *TR

I HAVE MENTIONED IT WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR OTHER RECALLS AND ISSUES UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WAS IGNORED. AFTER MUCH READING I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OF THESE CARS ARE HAVING ISSUES THAT PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ABOUT. THIS DOESNT INCLUDE THE MANY LIKE MYSELF THAT HAVE NOT GONE TO THE INTERNET AND ASKED OR COMPLAINED. I CAN NOT GET MY LIGHTS IN MY CAR TO SHUT OFF ON AUTO OR MANUALLY. IT IS IN THE ELECTRICAL FUSE SYSTEM. I HAVE TO LAY DOWN ON MY FLOOR OF DRIVERS SIDE AND REACH UP AND PULL OUT THE ELECTRIAL PLUG THAT GOES INTO THE BOX TO GET THE LIGHTS OFF...THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND HYUNDAI TURNS THEIR CHEEK TO THIS ISSUE. I THINK IT IS A FIRE AND ELECTRICAL HAZARD. THE PART COSTS OVER 500.00 AND THEN TO GET SOMEONE TO PUT IT IN. IT HAS BEEN FAULTY FOR YEARS AND MANY OTHER HYUNDAIS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE RESEARCH AND MAKE THIS A RECALL!!! IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! ALSO MY OTHER LIGHTS IN THE CAR ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF AS YOU DRIVE, THEY ARENT ALWAYS ON. THE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS WITH A 2.4L I4 ENGINE AND 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS SERIOUS SHUDDER ISSUES AT 45MPH. THE VEHICLE ALMOST BECOMES UNDRIVEABLE DUE TO THE SHUDDER AND HAS TO BE SPED UP TO SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MPH WHICH IS BEYOND THE POSTED REGULATORY SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROADS. *TW
I HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE AND WILL NOT STAY IN THE UPRIGHT OR DOWN POSITION. THE $120 TO FIX THIS IS PROHIBITIVE, SO I HAVE TRIED USING TAPE, VELCRO AND STRING TO KEEP IT UP. NONE OF THESE WORK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MY FIELD OF VISION IS SEVERELY LIMITED BY MY VISOR. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS PARKING THE VEHICLE IN HIS GARAGE WHEN HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED AGGRESSIVE AND FORCEFUL ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE REVVED EXCESSIVELY AND THE RPM'S RAPIDLY INCREASED. HE IMMEDIATELY FORCED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO THE "PARK POSITION"; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE WALL. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,954. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM WHICH WILL BE UPDATED UPON RECEIPT OF THE COMPLAINT FORM. UPDATED 3/8/10 *CN THE CONSUMERS HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE UP THE DRIVEWAY, WHEN IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. HE HAD THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. HE THREW THE GEAR INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE STILL DID NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER HIT THE GARAGE WALL WHICH ULTIMATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 06/18/10.*JB

I PURCHASED A USED 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA ON 5/29/2009 WITH 26,923 MILES FROM GETTEL HYUNDAI, SARASOTA FLORIDA. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 12/14/09 (34,151 MILES) BECAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ON. ON 6/8/12 (61,000 MILES) I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND CODES: B1448, B1701 AND B1706.THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVER BY WARRANTY AND WOULD COST $800. I DECLINED THE WORK. BEFORE I LEFT THEY TOLD ME THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT. LAST MONTH I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA BACK IN APRIL 2008 TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION WHICH CAUSED THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO REMAIN ON. TODAY (7/18/2014), (91,000 MILES) I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER CUSHION AIRBAG SENSOR AND WITH BOTH SEAT BELT BUCKLE SENSORS. THEY WILL SHIP THE FRONT PASSENGER CUSHION SEAT TO CALIFORNIA TO FIX THE AIRBAG SENSOR PROBLEM FOR FREE BUT IT WOULD COST $630 TO REPLACE BOTH SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IF I DECLINED TO REPLACE BOTH SEAT BELT SENSORS THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF I EVER GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WELL, I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR. IT IS A SAD SITUATION. BOUGHT CAR AT POWER BOWSER IN PITTSBURGH, PA (LIVE IN BOSTON NOW) WHO DID PA STATE INSPECTION AND 30K SERVICE THERE WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 32K MILES IN 2/09. (REAR BRAKES HAD BEEN REPLACED ALREADY IN 7/08). AT THE TIME, FRONT BRAKES WERE MEASURED AT 60% REMAINING AND REAR 90% REMAINING. I DID MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING, WHICH INVOLVES LITTLE BRAKING, SINCE THAT TIME. LESS THAN 7K MILES AND 7.5 MONTHS (MY CAR IS NOW AT 39K) LATER NOW MY CAR IS AT MIRAK HYUNDAI IN MASSACHUSETTS WITH THE FRONT BRAKES MEASURING AT 25-30% AND DAMAGED ROTORS, AND THE BACK BRAKES ARE AT ZERO% ON ONE SIDE IN THE BACK AND 70% ON THE OTHER SIDE IN THE BACK WITH THE 70% SIDE IMMOBILE IN THE CALIPER HAVING WORN DOWN FROM 90% ONLY BECAUSE OF ROTOR WEAR. AT 40,042 MILES WHILE DRIVING FROM DETROIT TO MILWAUKEE, I HEARD DREADFUL GRINDING NOISE. AT "CAR-X AUTO SERVICE" IN MILWAUKEE THEY FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM WITH REAR PADS WHILE FRONT PADS WERE OK.
