I BROUGHT MY 2007 SONATA INTO THE DEALER TO GET IT INSPECTED THE FIRST YEAR WITH 17,000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE A NOISE FROM THE WHEELS LOOKED AT AND IT HAD TO HAVE NEW BRAKES. I WAS ASTONISHED THAT AFTER 17,000 MILES I NEEDED A $600 PLUS BRAKE JOB, BUT THE WARRANTY COVERED IT. FIVE MONTHS LATER THE NOISE CAME BACK AND I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN, AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE MY BRAKES TAKEN APART, CLEANED OUT AND LUBED ($150) OR I WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS. I WAS APPALLED AND ASKED THE MECHANIC HOW A NEW CAR COULD POSSIBLY NEED NEW BRAKES ONCE A YEAR? I HAVE NEVER REPLACED BRAKES ON ANY OF MY CARS BEFORE AT LEAST 70,000 MILES, SO I KNOW AS THE SOLE DRIVER OF THE CAR THAT I'M NOT CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR BY MY DRIVING. HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE NEW HYUNDAI BRAKES ARE GREAT EXCEPT IN THE NORTHEAST WHERE THEY CORRODE VERY QUICKLY FROM THE SALT, AND THAT IF I DON'T HAVE THEM CLEANED AND LUBED ($150) AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR I WILL NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED EVERY YEAR. I DID PAY TO HAVE THEM CLEANED AND LUBED, BUT THIS IS CRAZY. THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE SELLING CARS WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES IF THEY WILL ONLY LAST FOR ONE YEAR. I THEN ASKED AROUND TO THE 4 OTHER PEOPLE WHO I KNEW WHO ALSO HAD NEWER HYUNDAI'S (3 SONATA'S AND ONE ELANTRA) AND THEY SAID THEY ALSO HAD TO HAVE THEIR BRAKES REPLACED BEFORE 20,000 MILES. SINCE THE BRAKES ARE ONLY UNDER WARRANTY UP TO 25,000 MILES I AM NOW LOOKING AT HAVING TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS A YEAR TO KEEP THE CAR WITH BRAKES, SO I'M THINKING I SHOULD TAKE THE LOSS AND TRADE IT IN. *TR
PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY ACTIVATE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WHEN AN AVERAGE SIZE ADULT SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO REPAIR BECAUSE EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN, THE LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT WHEN THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT WHEN AN OCCUPANT IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE MANUFACTURER REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 35,000. 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA SE WAS RECALLED I THINK IN 2008 FOR ESC OFF LIGHT COMING ON WHILE DRIVING. HAS BEEN RE-OCCURRING FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO. AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF, LIGHT GOES OUT AND THEN COMES BACK ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. PRESSING THE ESC SWITCH HAS NO AFFECT. BRAKE LIGHTS WORK NORMALLY. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF I HAVE TO BRAKE TO AVOID A PROBLEM WHILE ON WET SLIPPERY ROADS (LOTS OF RAIN IN MY AREA), THE ESC WOULD BE OF NO USE. THIS IS A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS STILL PRESENT IN MY VEHICLE AND HYUNDAI SHOULD CONTINUE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AT THEIR EXPENSE FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V161000 (AIR BAGS) AND IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, SHE NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS STILL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG WOULD NOT INFLATE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, WHICH MAY RESULT IN INJURIES. THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS TO HER VEHICLE. SHE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11,500.
RE: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V161000 I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BEST HYUNDAI, THE DEALER IN HOUSTON WHERE I BOUGHT IT, AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE ON THE SUBJECT CAMPAIGN. SERVICE WRITER JONATHAN CONFIRMED THAT WHEN I SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE DASHBOARD "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT STAYED ON. HE SAID HE WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY GOT IN A LOANER CAR. HE NEVER DID. I EVENTUALLY TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND HE HAD MY VEHICLE CHECKED OUT. HE SAID SINCE THERE WERE NO CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND NO FAULTS FOUND, SINCE THAT TIME WHEN I SAT IN THE SEAT THE LIGHT TURNED OFF, NO WORK WAS NEEDED. BUT WORK IS NEEDED. PLEASE HELP ME GET BEST HYUNDAI TO FIX THIS AIRBAG PROBLEM. *TR
BOTH OF MY VISORS HAVE NEVER STAYED UP, THEY ARE ALWAYS DOWN IN MY LINE OF VISION THIS PROBABLY STARTED 6 MONTHS AFTER I HAD THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED. A FEW YEARS BACK THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND IS STILL ON. THE PASSENGERS AIR BAG COMES ON AND GOES OFF REGULARLY. MY BACK BREAK LIGHTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACES SEVERAL TIMES, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THEM. AGAIN THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE ME TO REPLACE THEM AFTER MY HUSBAND HAD JUST REPLACED THEM. THERE ARE SO MANY PARTS THAT ARE FALLING APART. THE GEAR SHIFT HAS BROKEN AND THE BACK HANDLES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR ARE BROKEN. MY BRAKES ROTATE AND THE WHOLE CARE SHAKES WHEN I PRESS ON THE BREAKS ON THE FREEWAY. NOW MY BACK END IS MAKING NOISES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW , BUT WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM HYUNDAI AGAIN, THIS IS THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER HAD. FROM THE BEGINNING I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AND THE DEALER NEVER WANTED TO FIX ANYTHING UNLESS I PAYED FOR IT. I AM NOT PAYING FOR THINGS THAT I DID NOT BREAK. .
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN A PASSENGER WHO WEIGHED 130 POUNDS OCCUPIED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS INOPERATIVE. THE WARNING LIGHT IMPROPERLY IDENTIFIED A SMALL STATURE ADULT AS A CHILD IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE FAILURE TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY THE PASSENGER COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING WHEN NECESSARY. AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED HE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE #08V161000 FOR THE AIR BAGS. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE SEAT AND IMMEDIATELY THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED IN OCTOBER OF 2008 UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). THE IDENTICAL FAILURE RECURRED SIX MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWELVE TIMES FOR THE SIMILAR DEFECT AND REPAIRED EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT AIR BAG MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECURRING FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
I SMELLED SMOKE WHEN COMMUTING TO WORK. I FOUND A SMALL HOLE WAS BURNT THROUGH THE FABRIC COVERING THE SHELF UNDER THE REAR WINDOW. IT WAS CAUSED BY THE LIGHT BULB IN THE LIGHT IN THE REAR WINDOW THAT GOES ON WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE. THE LIGHT GETS SO HOT THAT IT BURNT THROUGH. I HAVEN'T HAD IT FIXED YET. *TR
DRIVER SIDE SUNVISOR MOUNTING HAS BECOME SO LOOSE THAT IT ALLOWS THE VISOR TO CONTINUALLY DROP DOWN IN FRONT OF MY FACE, OBSCURING MY VIEW OF THE ROADWAY, THEREBY PRESENTING A REAL DANGER TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE ODDS OF AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THE PREMATURE WEAR/FAILURE OF THE VISOR RETENTION MECHANISM IS VERY REAL. IN MY OPINION, THIS CONSTITUTES A SAFETY DEFECT. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE SERVICED UNLESS THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THEIR PRESENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TOOK 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA TO DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2008 TO FIX PROBLEM- THEY REFUSED BECAUSE PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT. AFTER RECEIVING RECALL LETTER, TOOK AUTO BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THEY REFUSED TO HELP US, CALLED THEIR CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER (1888-327-4236) AGAIN NO HELP BECAUSE DEALERSHIP CANNOT CONFIRM PROBLEM. HOWEVER, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THERE WAS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR, PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY A SLOW POWER RESPONSE. THE WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND HE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE FAILURES WERE CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,776.

SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE RECALL BECAUSE THE TECHNICIAN WEIGHS OVER 130 LBS. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN OCCUPIES THE SEAT, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE NOTICE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN PASSENGERS OF VARIOUS SIZES OCCUPIED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. AS OF SEPTEMBER 23, 2008, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 30,282.

THIS INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG IS OFF; HOWEVER, THE LIGHT EVENTUALLY DIMS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMER 08V161000 (AIR BAGS) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. SHE WAS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR WHILE AT THE DEALER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
LEFT REAR WHEEL BRAKE COMPONENTS HAD BEEN EXCESSIVELY RUSTED, PREVENTING THE PADS FROM RELEASING OUT OF THE DRUM. WHEEL WAS DANGEROUSLY OTHER HEATED. PAD AND DRUM WERE WORN AND REQUIRED PAD REPLACEMENT AND DRUM RESURFACING. *TR
REGARDING 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE PASSENGER AUTOMATIC AIR BAG SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. HYUNDAI CALLS THIS SYSTEM OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM, THIS SYSTEM SHOULD TURN OFF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IF THE PASSENGER IS A CHILD AND WEIGHTS LESS THAN 110 POUNDS (PER HYUNDAI HOTLINE). MY SON IS EIGHT YEARS OLD AND 75 POUNDS IN WEIGHT. WHEN HE SITS IN THE FRONT SEAT THE ADVANCE AIR BAG SYSTEM TURNS OFF THE AIR BAG ABOUT 10% OF THE TIME. I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS THEY CONFIRMED MY CONCERN BUT THEY HAD MY SON SIT IN A 2008 SONATA AND IT DID THE SAME THING. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THIS IS NORMAL BUT THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE HYUNDAI REP. *TR
SUN VISORS ON BOTH SIDES OF 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA WON'T STAY UP. BOTH MADE CRACKING NOISES AND NO LONGER OPERATE CORRECTLY. DRIVER'S SIDE HANGS IN MY LINE OF VISION. *TR
ON JUNE 2, 2008 THE ESC (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT ON THE DASH INDICATED THE ESC WAS NOT ENGAGED. IT WENT OFF AFTER I STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED. THE LIGHT CAME ON 2 MORE TIMES IN THE NEXT 4 DAYS. ON JUNE 6, I WAS MAKING A "Y" TURN ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND THE SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF DRIVE. HAVING READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL PREVIOUSLY, I POPPED THE BUTTON ON TOP OF THE SHIFT CONSOLE AND PUSHED THE BUTTON WITH MY KNIFE. I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO REVERSE, BUT THE SHIFT LOCKED DOWN AGAIN KEEPING ME FROM GOING INTO DRIVE. I HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTON. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY DEALER ON JUNE 16. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND STICKING CAUSING THE PROBLEM. SINCE I HAVE ONLY 8,456 MILES ON THE CAR, WARRANTY COVERED THE REPAIR. *TR
IN THE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA THERE IS AN INDICATOR LIGHT WHICH LIGHTS UP WHEN THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DISABLED. ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL, THIS LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE OFF WHEN A PERSON IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. OFTEN, THE LIGHT REMAINS ON, INDICATING THE AIRBAG IS DISABLED, WHEN A 130 LB ADULT IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. NO AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT CAUSES THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH BOTH THE LOCAL SERVICE DESK AND HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE. BOTH HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHILE THE DISABLED LIGHT IS LIT. HOWEVER, NEITHER KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR IS WILLING TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. I AM UNCOMFORTABLE HAVING A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE WITH THE FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR BECAUSE THE AIRBAG MAY BE DISABLED DURING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION WHICH RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO MY CAR OF OVER TEN THOUSAND, THE CRASH HAPPENED AT A 50 MILE AN HOUR RATE OF SPEED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON MY 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA (V6 - LIMITED - AUTO TRANSMISSION) HAS FAILED TWICE IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. BOTH TIMES, FAILURE BEGAN WITH AUTOMATIC DEACTIVATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM (AS INDICATED BY A LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL), FOLLOWED SEVERAL DAYS LATER BY FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK SYSTEM WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO/FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE (OR PARK). WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ON FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2008, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT BUT SUDDENLY NEEDED TO REVERSE MY DIRECTION TO AVOID BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT DID NOT YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY. WITH NO WARNING, I SUDDENLY FOUND THAT THE SHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT MOVE INTO REVERSE BECAUSE THE SHIFT INTERLOCK (CONTROLLED BY THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE SWITCH) WOULD NOT ALLOW THE LEVER TO MOVE. I WAS STUCK IN TRAFFIC FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND WAS NEARLY HIT BY A TRUCK BECAUSE I COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE! LUCKILY, I REMEMBERED HOW TO REMOVE THE SMALL COVER OVER THE MANUAL DISENGAGEMENT POINT AND WAS ABLE TO USE A LEATHERMAN TOOL TO DEACTIVATE THE SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM AND PLACE THE CAR IN REVERSE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGIC SITUATION IF I HAD BEEN HIT BY THE TRUCK OR IF THIS HAD HAPPENED NEAR A RAILROAD CROSSING OR AS I WAS BOARDING A FERRY BOAT ON PUGET SOUND. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI AUTOMOBILES AS I FOUND BY RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON THE WEB. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL! THE DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS WILL DO LITTLE GOOD IF I AM KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED THE NEXT TIME FAILURE OCCURS. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM AS FAR AS VISIBILITY IS CONCERNED. THE LOW BEAMS DO NOT LIGHT UP DISTANCE BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT IS MADE. THERE IS BAR THAT CUTS THE LIGHT BEAM OFF AT THE TOP. WHEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SIMPLY ADJUSTED THE HEADLIGHTS WHICH WAS WORSE BECAUSE IN THE FOG THE LIGHTS WERE NOW AIMED STRAIGHT OUT DECREASING VISIBILITY AND MAKING IT DANGEROUS. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION BY FOLLOWING THE DEALER'S ADVICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY SENT THE SEAT OFF TO BE RE-CALIBRATED. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT EVER 2-3 MONTHS UNTIL JANUARY 2012 AND IT DID NOT COME BACK ON UNTIL AUGUST 2012 BUT DURING THIS MONTH I TOOK IT BACK A TOTAL OF 8 TIMES BECAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT KEPT COMING BACK ON! THIS TIME THEY REPAIR PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN IN 2012 BUT WE'VE BEEN DRIVING IT THIS WAY FOR A WHILE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON MORE OFTEN THAN OFF IT SEEMS, AND IT ALWAYS IS SOME MINOR ISSUE OR CAN'T BE FOUND. IN FEB 2013 WITH 87,725 MILES I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND NOW THEY SAY IT IS A DRIVER'S SEAT BELT ISSUE AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2008, WHEN THE CONTACT RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THEY WILL HAVE THE REGIONAL MECHANIC INSPECT THE VEHICLE. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,000. UPDATED 02/03/09. *JB
THE CAR NOW HAS 75K. I HAVE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE REAR PADS THREE TIMES AND REAR ROTORS TWICE. IN ADDITION, REAR BRAKES HAVE REQUIRED "FRICTION RELIGNING" AT LEAST ANNUALLY, OFTEN TWICE PER YEAR. NO MATTER HOW OFTEN THESE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES ARE NEEDED THE EMERGENCY OR PARKING BRAKE, WHICH I USE EACH TIME I PARK THE CAR, OFTEN DOES NOT RELEASE EASILY OR FULLY. IF I REVERSE UP TO ABOUT 8-10 MPH AND SLAM THE BRAKES, WHEN THE DRAGGING SOUND AND SENSATION DO NOT QUICKLY ABATE, THIS SEEMED TO SEAT THE PADS AND OR CALIPERS. IN THE PAST WEEK, IN FACT, THE REAR DRIVER'S BRAKE ASSEMBLY, ALUMINUM WHEEL AND COMPONENTS BECOME VERY, VERY HOT... HAVE NOT NEEDED TO DRIVE MORE THAN A MILE OR TWO AT ANY TIME, BUT THE DEALER CAN NOT GET ME IN UNTIL NEXT WEEK... I AM UNABLE TO GET AROUND AT ALL IF NEED LEAVE THE CAR FOR EXTENDED TIME... IT WAS WHEN ONLINE SEEKING A TEMPORARY MEANS BY WHICH I MIGHT TRY TO ADJUST THE CALIPER FOR THE TIME BEING, THAT I FOUND MANY, MANY FORUMS AND DISCUSSIONS OF THE DEFICIENCIES OF THE REAR BRAKES IN SONATAS... I DID CALL HYUNDAI, THEY ISSUED A CASE NUMBER AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT WHATEVER... *JS
