In 2018 I had to replace my alternator as it failed while at a stop light. My dash warning lights illuminated so I pulled over to the curb and turned the vehicle off. I was not able to start the car back up and had to have it towed home. I noticed that there is evidence of oil leaking again… it is over the alternator as well as other parts under the hood. I also notice oil in my driveway where I park my car. I am concerned that the alternator will fail again as Hyundai still have no remedy for the issue.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. WHILE DRIVING, SMOKE WAS SEEN UNDER THE HOOD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (HANLEES HYUNDAI IN FREMONT, CALIFORNIA), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. IN APRIL OF 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: ENGINE). APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MILES LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED. APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
THE FIX FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 FAILED IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS. THE HEAD GASKET LEAK APPARENTLY RETURNED AND CREATED AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE THAT LED TO A LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION ON THE HIGHWAY AND EVENTUAL STALL OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT I INCURRED COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND THE DEDUCTIBLE ON MY SERVICE CONTRACT. THE RESOLUTION OF THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR FAILURE.
The contact owned a 2012 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated while parked and unoccupied, the vehicle caught fire. The contact stated she was told by one of her neighbors who tried to extinguish the fire but could not stop the fire. The house was damaged due to the fire. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was needed. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire and the vehicle was currently under investigation. A fire department and police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) however the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V705000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
OVER THE PAST MONTH OR SO, THIS VERACRUZ HAS SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED AT TOP SPEED, AND I COULD NOT STOP IT WITH THE BRAKES. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS-I DONT EVEN WANT TO DRIVE THE CAR. SOMEONE COULD EASILY GET INJURED OR WORSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER TO LOCK. THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED TWICE, BUT THE ISSUE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
JULY 2014: EXPERIENCED SUDDEN PROGRESSIVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. DISCOVERED ALTERNATOR FOULED BY LEAKING OIL. VALVE COVER GASKET, ALTERNATOR REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP. REC'D NOTICE OF RECALL 121. JANUARY 2015: RECALL REPAIRS WERE APPLIED. JUNE 2016: PROBLEM RECURRED AS BEFORE. GASKET & ALTERNATOR AGAIN REPLACED. ALTHOUGH REPAIR/REPLACEMENT DONE, HYUNDAI REFUSES TO OFFER ANY OTHER REMEDY OR EXTEND WARRANTY.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OFF COMPLETELY FOR A MOMENT (PERHAPS ONE TO TWO SECONDS) WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS USED. THE HEADLIGHTS ALWAYS CAME BACK ON WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER WAS RETURNED TO THE NORMAL CENTER POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, BUT THEN IT OCCURRED FREQUENTLY ON A RECENT TRIP WHERE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT FOR ABOUT SIX HOURS STRAIGHT ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY.
WENT IN FOR A RECALL (CAMPAIGN 121) TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE REPAIR WAS DONE INCORRECTLY CAUSING MORE PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED TO RE DUE JUST THE PROBLEM BUT FAILED TO CLEAN RESIDUA (OIL ALL OVER ENGINE AND PARTS) THIS CAUSED THE PARTS TO FAIL UPON DRIVING. FILED A COMPLAINT TO HYUNDAI AND HAD NO RESULTS ON PAYING FOR THE DAMAGES (REPAIRS). THE 1ST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE DRIVE BELT SHREDDED CAUSING VEHICLE TO STOP. THE 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN ROAD. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE RECALL STATES REPLACE ALTERNATOR IF ANY OIL CONTAMINATION IS FOUND WHICH WAS NOT. I NEED HELP TO GET THE REPAIR COST PAID FOR FOR FAULTY WORK.

THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE FOR A THIRD TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS JUMPSTARTED AND DRIVEN TO THE DEALER. MID ISLAND HYUNDAI (1815 MIDDLE COUNTRY RD, CENTEREACH, NY 11720) REPLACED THE BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX MONTHS LATER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. THE SEAL, ALTERNATOR, AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ONE YEAR LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI 112 (2114 NY-112 MEDFORD, NY 11763) WHERE THE SEAL, ALTERNATOR, AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
