A SHORT TIME AFTER PURCHASING THE NEW 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE, WE STARTED HAVING TROUBLE BREAKING AT ANY SPEED. AS YOU STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THE RPMS WENT WAY UP AND IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF STOPPING. IT ALWAYS FELT LIKE YOU HAD TO FIGHT IT TO STOP AND IT MIGHT NOT STOP AT ALL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD IT HAD SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH DID NOT SOLVE ANYTHING. AT THE POINT THAT WE WERE CALLING TO TAKE BACK IN, RECEIVED THE "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" WARNING AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO DRIVE IT IN AND IT WOULD "GO INTO A SAFE MODE". DROVE SLOWLY WHILE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND AFTER SLOWING DOWN FOR CONSTRUCTION, IT WOULD NOT SPEED UP PAST ABOUT 27 MPH. IT HAD TO BE TO TOWED IN. AFTER A NEW TRANSMISSION, AFTER WAITING ABOUT 2 WEEKS DUE TO 15 LOCAL DEALERSHIPS WAITING FOR TRANSMISSIONS, WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT IT WAS NOT READY AND DOING THE SAME THING. HE SAID THERE WAS ANOTHER SOFTWARE UPDATE WITH NO ESTIMATED RELEASE DATE. THERE HAS BEEN AN UPDATE FOR THE 2015 MODELS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS SINCE BUT NOTHING FOR THE 2014 MODELS STILL. WE HAVE NOT HAD OUR CAR SINCE SEPTEMBER SINCE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS BEING BOUGHT BACK AFTER MUCH PAIN AND ALL THE DECISIONS BEING MADE BY THE CHRYSLER AREA REPRESENTATIVE, SEAN WERTH, WHO ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP SALES MANAGER SAID THAT OUR CAR WAS AS FIXED AS IT WAS GOING TO BE. *JS
2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED, 6 CYLINDER, PURCHASED ON APRIL 21, 2014 WITH 321 MILES ON IT. THERE WAS A SLIGHT SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END THAT THEY TOLD US WAS A FLAT SPOT IN THE TIRE THAT WOULD WORK ITSELF OUT AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO "LEARN" MY WAY OF DRIVING. ON MAY 30,TT 2217 MILES I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TOT HE DEALER FOR HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION AND SHUTTERING AND GRINDING IN THE FRONT END. THE JEEP HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER 6 TIMES FOR SHUTTERING AND GRINDING IN THE FRONT END WHEN PROCEEDING FROM STOP OR LOW SPEED AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A CONSTANT SPEED FOR SEVERAL MILES. SHUTTERING CAN HAPPEN WHEN TURNING OR GOING STRAIGHT. I HAVE ALSO REPORTED SEVERAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES TO THEM WITH THE CARS INABILITY TO DOWNSHIFT GOING UP A HILL AND OR TO UP SHIFT WHEN COASTING DOWN HILLS. AT ONE TIME AS I WAS ENTERING THE HIGHWAY, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO 55 AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. I'M GLAD THERE WERE TWO LANES OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. CAR WAS VERY JERKY WHEN PROCEEDING FROM A STOP AND WOULD OFTEN SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD AFTER A HESITATION TO EVEN MOVE. CAR HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED 3 TIMES, HAD A NEW VALVE BODY INSTALLED, A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED AND TWO NEW AXLES INSTALLED TWO DAYS AFTER THE AXLES WERE INSTALLED THE SHUTTERING AND HESITATION IN TRANSMISSION STARTED AGAIN. DEALER HAS FAILED TO GET BACK TO ME. *TR
WOBBLE IN FRONT END ON ACCELERATION. 2ND GEAR FROM 1200-2000 RPMS. YOU CAN FEEL THE VIBRATION IN DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS. TWO NEW FRONT AXLES AND OTHER PARTS INSTALLED ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. ALSO TRANSMISSION FLASHED AND STILL PROBLEMS WITH ROUGH SHIFTING. I AM IN THE CASE MANAGEMENT GROUP AND WAITING TO HERE BACK FROM THEM. DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE BUT I HAVE NO OTHER TRANSPORTATION. *TR
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS (5 TOTAL) WITH MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED HARD SHIFTING INTO LOWER GEARS. THE VEHICLE JERKS AND BUCKS RANDOMLY AND HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO HAVE NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE FEATURES THE ZF-DESIGNED NINE-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT HAS KNOWN ISSUES WITH ROUGH SHIFTING. THE RECALL UPDATE WAS PERFORMED IN EARLY MAY YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY PULLS FORWARD, NORMALLY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, AND IS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. CHRYSLER HAS A TOTAL OF 5 WORK ORDERS IN THEIR SYSTEM AND IS ASKING ME FOR A 6TH TIME TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS. EACH "REPAIR" TRIP RESULTS IN A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO THE TRANSMISSION THAT BAN AIDS THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN WE ARE RIGHT BACK TO SQUARE ONE. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED AND AM REQUESTING THAT THE VEHICLE BE BOUGHT BACK BY CHRYSLER AND I BE REIMBURSED FOR ALL CAR PAYMENTS MADE IN THE LAST YEAR. THE VEHICLE FALLS UNDER MARYLAND LEMON LAW REQUIREMENTS IN THAT , IT HAS LESS THAN 18K MILES AND IS UNDER 24 MONTHS OLD AND WAS PURCHASED NEW. I AM REQUESTING TO OPEN A CASE WITH NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION TO ASSIST ME WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAVE AN OPEN CASE NUMBER WITH CHRYSLER OF 26719430. ANY ASSISTANCE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I AM A NURSE AND TRAVEL FOR A LIVING. ON MY WAY HOME FROM ASSIGNMENT IN WV. JUST OUTSIDE A BOWLING GREEN ON I65. MY CAR JERKED THEN LOST ALL POWER. ENGINE LIGHT, SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. I WAS GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD NO ACCELERATION. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, ACROSS 3 LANES OF INTERSTATE. I ATTEMPTED JEEPS EMERGENCY NUMBER BUT GOT THE UNABLE TO CONNECT VOICE MAIL, AFTER 5 MINUTES MY CAR RESTARTED. I REMAINED ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD. 65 MILES LATER AND 15 MILES FROM NASHVILLE THE CAR JERKED AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ONCE AGAIN. I PULLED OVER AND THE CAR RESTARTED. I AM NOW IN A HOTEL FOR THE THIRD NIGHT AND UNABLE TO GET HOME. I TOOK MY CAR TO JEEP THIS MORNING TO BE SERVICED. I WAS TOLD A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER TO PAY FOR RENTAL CAR, HOTEL ECT. THE NEW PART IS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE TUESDAY. NO I WAS NOT KILLED OR INVOLVED IN A CRASH HOWEVER, I CAN THINK OF SEVERAL SCENARIOS WHERE I EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN IN A HORRIBLE CRASH. WHAT IF THE NEW MODULE IS ALSO BAD I ASKED. IT'S LIKE MY NEW LAPTOP I WAS TOLD. SOMETIMES THEY JUST BREAK. *TR
THIS IS A FOLLOWUP COMPLAINT TO (ODI NUMBER) 10618847. A PHONE CALL WAS MADE TO NTSB REFERRING TO THIS INCIDENT (REF 670186). TODAY WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND AT AN INTERSECTION, THE 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE I WAS DRIVING BUCKED VIOLENTLY THEN STALLED. THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS NOT CAPABLE OF EXCEEDING 3-4MPH EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS REVVING. THE BOSTON POLICE RESPONDED AS I WAS IN A DANGEROUS LOCATION AND WAITED WITH ME FOR AN HOUR UNTIL AAA COULD TOW MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST DAYS AGO UNDER IDENTICAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THE LAST TIME THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A 'SOFTWARE UPDATE' AND ASSURED ME THAT WITH THE NEW SOFTWARE THIS PROBLEM COULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. *TR
2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE V6 3.2 LITER HAS RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SHIMMY ON RIGHT HAND TURNS AND ON ACCELERATION AFTER STOPS. DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS NORMAL DUE TO TORQUE OF ENGINE AND HORSE POWER OF ENGINE. *TR
FRAYING OF THE HARNESS STRAPS NEAR THE SEAT BASE. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE 3 TIMES IN THE FIRST 3000 MILES. FIRST FAILURE WAS WHILE STATIONARY. SECOND WAS AT APPROX 30MPH AND 3RD AT APPROX 65MPH. FAILURE IS UNPREDICTABLE AND CAUSES IMMEDIATE DROP IN SPEED WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. CAR WAS 'FIXED' BY JEEP DEALER EACH TIME, CAR FAILED IN SAME MANNER ALL 3 TIMES. *TR
THE VEHICLE ALMOST FROM THE TIME OF PURCHASE EXHIBITED TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR WOULD LAG AND NOT ENGAGE. THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT OCCURRED AT WHAT APPEARED RANDOM TIMES. IT WOULD JERK TO THE POINT THAT I THOUGHT I WAS REAR ENDED. THIS PERSISTED AND I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND WORKED WITH THREE CASE MANAGERS AT JEEP CUSTOMER CARE AND THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED. THIS WEEK THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN SAFE FOR SOMETIME DUE TO SITUATIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THE VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASE (NEW) AND HAD HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION MADE.
ABOUT 7AM ON AUGUST 3, 2014, I WAS OPERATING THE ABOVE VEHICLE IN LIGHT TRAFFIC ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY. WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 20MPH,THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BUCKED AND THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME AND A MESSAGE CAME ON STATING TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. AT THE SAME TIME, THE POWER STEERING ALSO STOPPED WORKING. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. I WAITED A PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE. AT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND THE DISPLAY WAS FLASHING IN RED TO CHECK TRANSMISSION. THE DRIVE BUTTON WAS FLASHING WHEN I RE-ENGAGED THE CAR INTO DRIVE. THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS REVVING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 5MPH. I WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM HOME AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT SO I DROVE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS A "SOFTWARE PROBLEM". I AM NOTIFYING THE NTSB AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT SHOULD MOST CERTAINLY BE A MANDATORY SAFETY RECALL IF THIS "SOFTWARE PROBLEM" IS AFFECTING OTHER VEHICLES. I WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE SOMEONE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
VEHICLE IS SHIFTING VERY HARD IN LOW GEARS, AND JUMPING INTO A FASTER DRIVE ON LONG DOWN HILL RUNS. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY CLAIM THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND UPDATED THE COMPUTER. THE CAR STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
AT LOW SPEED TURNS, LEFT AND RIGHT, IE IN A PARKING LOT OR TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION, POPPING AND GROANING FROM FRONT SUSPENSION/STEERING ASSEMBLY. VERY AUDIBLE AND RATCHETING FEEL CAN BE FELT IN THE FRAME AND STEERING WHEEL. NOT AN ISSUE WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT OR AT SPEED. FIRST TRIP TO DEALER...COULD NOT DUPLICATE. NEXT DAY, AFTER CONTACTING JEEP CONSUMER SERVICE, THE JEEP WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND I TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT FOR THE SERVICE CONSULTANT. THE POPPING/GROANING NOISE WAS EVIDENT IN EVERY TURN AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE SERVICE AREA FOR SUSPECTED "SUSPENSION" PROBLEM. NEXT DAY CONTACT WITH DEALER...THEY THINK IT IS EITHER THE AXLES OR TRANSMISSION. CALLED JEEP AND THEY CALLED DEALERSHIP. I WAS THEN TOLD BY JEEP THEY WERE REPLACING THE AXLES. SUBSEQUENT MSG FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THEY WERE CHANGING THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE BUT IT WAS BACK ORDERED. NOW TWO DAYS...NO JEEP, NO TRANSPORTATION, NO LOANER. I AM A MASTER ARMY AVIATOR WITH THIRTY YEARS OF FLYING. I KNOW WHEN A MACHINE IS BROKE OR ABOUT TO BE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND VIBRATED WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT BOTH FRONT AXLES AND MOTOR MOUNTS WERE REPLACED. THE COMPUTER WAS ALSO UPDATED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES, BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
JEEP WOULD ACCELERATE IN CURVES OR GOING DOWNHILL. DRIVERS FOOT WOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE GAS PEDAL. YOU WOULD NOT SEE THE CHANGE OF SPEED IN THE SPEEDOMETER, BUT WOULD SEE IT IN THE TACHOMETER, AND YOU COULD FEEL IT SPEED UP. THERE WERE TIMES I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WOULD FLIP IN A CURVE OR REAR END SOMEONE. IT DOES IT MOST WHILE COLD, LIKE WHEN YOU WOULD FIRST START DRIVING FOR THE DAY. *TR
I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE MY JEEP. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT I NOTICED IT JERKED A LOT. I CALLED THEM AND THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE. IT STILL DOES THAT BUT JUST NOT AS MUCH. TODAY I WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVE WAY AND IT ACCELERATED WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS AND WOULD NOT STOP RIGHT AWAY. I'M GOING TO CALL AND MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE I COULD HAVE WRECKED OR HIT SOMEONE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATED BRIGHT TO VIEW THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. MA 09/25 *CN
RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN AUGUST OF 1914, THE AUTO TRANSMISSION JUMPED AT 5 MPH TO 45 MPH WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER JEEP AND THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER DID ONE UPDATE ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT DID NOT SOLVER THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES THAT THEY WOULD SEND ME ANOTHER UPDATE FOR MY VEHICLE IN AUGUSTO OF 2015 FOR MY PROBLEM. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 2, 2015 AND NO SECOND TRANSMISSION UPDATE HAS AS YET ARRIVED FOR MY PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS STILL IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET. I NOW HAVE OTHER RECALL ISSUES WITH THE POWER LIFTGATE BUT AS YET NO PARTS AND THE RO RECALL THAT I HAVE NOT AS YET HAD DONE. I WANT THE SECOND UPDATE FOR MY AUTO TRANSMISSION FIXED.
I HAVE A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LATIUDE...THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH HAVING ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. I BOUGHT MY JEEP NEW AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM EARLY ON...BUT NOT HAVING 20/20 VISION...I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME UNTIL TALKING WITH OTHER JEEP OWNERS. SO I AVOID DRIVING AT NIGHT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...AS NOT TO PUT MYSELF OR ANYONE IN HARM'S WAY!!
THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT FROM THIRD GEAR UNLESS THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC DURING CITY DRIVING THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS UNRESPONSIVE AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. ALSO THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE HARSH SHIFTS FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR EVEN AFTER ALL RECALLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED.
AFTER DOING MY HOMEWORK AND RESEARCH ON A VEHICLE WITH #1 SAFETY RATINGS IN ITS CLASS, I AM NOW IN A CONSTANT STATE OF FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF NOT ONLY MYSELF AND MY FAMILY, BUT TO ANY OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE AROUND ME. I TRAVEL AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE IN A VEHICLE THAT I AM STILL IN DEBT A VERY LARGE SUM OF MONEY ON. I TOOK DELIVERY OF MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK, 4X4 ON MAY 28, 2014. THE FIRST ISSUE OCCURRED ON JULY 31, 2014 WHEN THE VEHICLE FELT AS THOUGH THE ENGINE DROPPED OUT INTO THE STREET OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD, DISABLING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY; IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE, NOR WOULD IT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO GET ONTO THE TOW TRUCK. (THE TRANSMISSION AND EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEMS FAILED) TO MAKE AN INCREDIBLY LONG STORY SHORT...I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME EVENT AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS CONTINUOUSLY OVER A 14 MONTH PERIOD IN REGARD TO FAILURE OF MY EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM AS WELL AS MY TRANSMISSION TO INCLUDE: JERKING SO MUCH THAT MY PURSE FLIES FROM SEAT ONTO FLOORBOARD, JERKING THAT CAUSES MY DAUGHTER TO LUNGE FORWARD INTO THE BACK OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT, A STALLED VEHICLE ON BUSY HIGHWAYS AND STREETS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, SUDDEN ENGAGEMENT OF EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH THE INABILITY TO RELEASE THE BRAKE WHILE STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS; I COULD GO ON AND ON. I RECEIVED A CALL ON TUES. OF THIS WEEK FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO INFORM ME THAT A RESOLUTION WAS MADE; YET ANOTHER TRANSMISSION WOULD BE INSTALLED IN MY DEATH TRAP OF A VEHICLE. (THIS MAKES #4) TO SAY THAT THIS IS CLEARLY THE DEFINITION OF INSANITY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. SOMETHING DRASTIC NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED.
THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE THAT SHOWS ON YOUR WEBSITE WAS DATED 5/14/14. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED BY CHRYSLER UNTIL JULY 2014 OF THE RECALL. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AS IT INDICATES THERE IS A BRAKE BOOSTER SAFETY ISSUE. WOBBLY AND SHIMMY FRONT END ON ACCELERATION. ONLY IN 2ND GEAR FROM 1700-2000 RPMS. YOU CAN FEEL THE VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CAR, MAINLY STEERING WHEEL AND SEATS. IT HAPPENS APPROX. 6 TIMES OUT OF 10 WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES FROM A STOP. *TR
INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FREEWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. WAS TRAVELING IN THE #1 LANE AND ENCOUNTERED A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. CHANGED TO THE #2 AND ACCELERATED, BUT GOT NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FREEWAY AT THIS PORTION IS A DOWNGRADE SO VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL. I ACCELERATED AGAIN AND VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. A "SERVICE TRANSMISSION SOON" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON DASHBOARD. I EXITED THE FREEWAY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OFFRAMP. I PRESSED THE GAS, WHILE IN DRIVE, AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. PLACED IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK AND SHUT IT DOWN AND RESTARTED VEHICLE AND IT DID STRUGGLE TO MOVE FORWARD SEVERAL FEET. PLACED VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND IT DID NOT RESPOND. REPEATED SEQUENCE OF TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON AND THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. PLACED VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND IT DID NOT RESPOND. REPEATED SEQUENCE AND VEHICLE FINALLY MOVED FORWARD. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY DRIVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER HALF A DAY DEALERSHIP STATED "CHRYSLER" TOLD THEM TO WIGGLE THE CABLES AND SEE IF ANY OF THEM ARE LOOSE. AFTER THEY DETERMINED THE CABLES WERE NOT LOOSE THEY INSTALLED THE NEW TRANSMISSION UPDATES AND CLEARED THE ERROR CODES. SERVICE TECH STATED THE PROBLEM SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. SO FAR I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OTHER FAILURE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
THE CAR SUFFERS FROM POOR SHIFTING CHARACTERISTICS. IT EXPERIENCES EXTREME LAG BETWEEN THE TIME THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED AND THE TIME THAT THE ENGINE RESPONDS. SHIFTS TO ALLOW PASSING ACTIVITIES ON THE HIGHWAY ARE ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC, AS ITS ABILITY TO PROVIDE GOOD RESPONSE/POWER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PASS AT SPEED IS, IN A WORD, CRAP. THE CAR EXPERIENCES SHIFT DELAYS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM 40+ TO 60+, IT EXPERIENCES LAG AND THEN SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAINTAIN SPEED OR ACCELERATE WHILE GOING UPHILL, AND IT EXPERIENCES SLOW RESPONSE OFF OF STOPS UNLESS THE GAS PEDAL IS FLOORED. BECAUSE OF ITS UNCERTAIN ACCELERATION RESPONSE, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BE COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL THE CAR AND PERFORM ACTUAL QC TESTING ON THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF THIS NATURE. WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL DRIVE TO THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING, WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC COMING FROM BEHIND. THE VEHICLE WAS ESSENTIALLY DEAD ON THE HIGHWAY. MY WIFE MANAGED TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AS WELL A MESSAGE TO "SERVICE TRANSMISSION". THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PLACED ON A FLAT BED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY INCIDENT INVOLVING THESE VEHICLES. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION, AS THERE HAVE BEEN THREE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS, FROM CHRYSLER, AND OUR VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL OF THEM PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE DEALERS SO I AM UNABLE TO ADVISE WHAT, IF ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION WILL BE TAKEN. WHEN DECELERATING FOR A SPEED ZONE, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED FROM 5TH TO 4TH, THE RPMS WENT UP APPROXIMATELY 1000 AND THE CAR ACCELERATED. THE 'UNINTENDED' ACCELERATION CHARACTERISTIC IS ALSO EVIDENT ON DOWNHILL DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN. THIS OCCURS OR A FREQUENT BASIS AND WAS EVIDENT PRIOR TO, AND AFTER, A TRANSMISSION/TCM REPLACEMENT. MY WIFE NO LONGER FEELS SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND HAS GONE BACK TO USING HER SUBARU FOR COMMUTING. IT WILL SHIFT HARD AT LOW SPEEDS WITH NORMAL DRIVING, WHEN ACCELERATING WILL REV UP TO HIGH RPM BEFORE SHIFTING AT HIGH RESULTING IN HARD SHIFT. WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY SMELLED BURNING OIL SMELL AND SMOKE IN CABIN OF CAR. AT FIRST STOPLIGHT OFF FREEWAY SMOKE WAS VISUALLY EVIDENT AT RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AREA AND SMELL OF BURNING OIL INCREASED. I GOT OUT OF CAR AND LOOKED UNDER RIGHT FRONT SIDE AND NOTICED OIL OR GREASE ON CATALYTIC CONVERTER. *TR

I DID THIS AND THEN PUT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE. PRESSED GAS AND VEHICLE WENT BACKWARDS. HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER IS STILL EVALUATING VEHICLE AND HAS DONE A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I ASKED ABOUT THE JERKY SHIFTING AND THEY ARE SAYING IT IS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE BEING SLAMMED WITH CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REP. CALLING AN IMPROPERLY PERFORMING TRANSMISSION NORMAL BECAUSE ITS HAPPENING TO MOST OF THESE VEHICLES IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLD UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THE WEEK OF JULY 21, 2014. AT THAT TIME NEW FRONT AXLES WERE ORDERED. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON AUGUST 14, 2014 FOR REPLACEMENT OF FRONT AXLES. AFTER REPLACEMENT THE CONCERN WAS WORSE. THEY REMOVED AXLES FROM A LOT VEHICLE AND SWAPPED OUT. THE CONCERN(WOBBLE) IS STILL THERE. IN FACT IT PRETTY MUCH HAPPENS ALL THE TIME NOW WHEN COMING OUT OF A TURN. A STAR CASE WAS OPENED WITH CHRYSLER. RECEIVED A CALL TODAY,(SEPTEMBER 4,2014) FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER AND I WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER ENGINEERS WERE WORKING ON A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT TO EXPECT A FIX/REPAIR FOR THIS FOR 3-4 MONTHS AND THAT THEY DID NOT THINK THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. HOW CAN THEY BE SURE THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND DO NOT HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THIS. THIS IS A FULL TIME ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AND IF THE WHEELS ARE NOT IN SYNC HOW DO WE KNOW THIS WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM WHEN WE ARE ON SNOW COVERED/SLIPPERY ROADS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WHEN THE DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE STATING 'SERVICE TRANSMISSION IMMEDIATELY'. THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO 'NEUTRAL' AND SHE HAD TO DRIFT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. SHE HAD TO WAIT TO BE TOWED FOR OVER AN HOUR WHILE TRUCK AND CARS RACED PACED AT 60+ MILES AN HOUR.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission only shifted gear at 5,000 RPM’s. The contact stated that the failure had become progressively worse, causing the contact to become stranded on two separate occasions due to transmission failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure and there would be no assistance provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

THE SCREEN KEPT SAYING WHEN TRIED TO PUT INTO REVERSE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND THEM SELECT GEAR BUT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. FINALLY MADE IT HOME AND TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A BIT AND RESTARTED AND IT WOULD LET US GO INTO REVERSE BUT STILL HAS TRANSMISSION LIGHT ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK A FEW DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND TOLD THEM IT WAS NOT SHIFTING RIGHT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE SOME UPDATES AND FIXED THEM BUT IT NEVER FIXED IT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH JEEP KNOWING THEY HAD AN ISSUE AND STILL PUT THEIR CARS OUT THERE TO BE SOLD. I WISH PEOPLE WERE HONEST AND NOT SELL VEHICLES THAT HAVE KNOWN ISSUES! *TR
WHEN STARTING VEHICLE FROM A STOP (NOT INITIAL START UP), THE JEEP HAS A TENANCY TO LOOSE POWER AND BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE FROM THE GAS PEDDLE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I HAVE TO JUST LET OFF THE GAS AND THEN GIVE IT 2-3 SECONDS BEFORE BEING ABLE TO HAVE ACCELERATION POWER. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAVE TO GIVE MUCH MORE ROOM WHEN TURNING. ALONG WITH THIS ISSUE, I HAVE A ISSUE WITH POWER WHEN DRIVING (AGAIN AFTER STOPPING, NEVER INITIAL START AND DRIVE) WHERE THE ENGINE REVS HIGH, EVEN WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS, AND IT DOES NOT INCREASE SPEED, AND LOOSES SPEED AND POWER. I DO THE SAME THING WHERE I LET OFF THE GAS FOR A FEW SECONDS TILL THE RPM DROPS AND THEN CAN RESUME DRIVING AGAIN. *TR

IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME, WHETHER UNDER HARD OR SOFT ACCELERATION. IT IS ALSO MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN TURNING RIGHT. THE PASSENGER IS EVEN ABLE TO FEEL THE SHIMMY, SO IT DOES NOT ONLY TRANSFER THROUGH THE PEDALS OR STEERING WHEEL. AXLES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, SOFTWARE HAS BEEN UPDATED, BUT AT THIS POINT IN TIME THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX FOR THE VEHICLE. *TR
ON OCCAISION WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR SEEMS TO BE IN LIMBO, NOT ACCELERATING AND LOSING SPEED SLIGHTLY. *TR
VEHICLE SHIFTS FROM PARK INTO REVERSE WITHOUT ANYONE TOUCHING THE SHIFT LEVER. VEHICLE ALSO CHANGES GEARS OCCASIONALLY WHEN DRIVING, E.G., SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE WHEN BACKING UP, OR REVERSE TO NEUTRAL. REPORTED TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY IN JULY 2014 (NOT AWARE OF PROBLEM) AND CHRYSLER ON 9/29/14 AND AGAIN 9/9/15. WE ARE NOW VIGILANT WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND BEFORE INITIAL ACCELERATION. ONCE MOVING, THE JEEP STAYS IN THE GEAR SELECTED, E.G., HASN'T SHIFTED OUT OF DRIVE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE SHIFT PROBLEM IS A PROGRESSION DOWNWARD, I.E., PARK TO REVERSE, REVERSE TO NEUTRAL, REVERSE TO DRIVE. UNFORTUNATELY MY WIFE HAD ANOTHER AND POTENTIALLY SERIOUS INCIDENT THIS WEEKEND WHEN SHE PARKED ON LEVEL GROUND, PLACED THE JEEP IN PARK, LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING, GOT OUT OF THE JEEP (BRIEFLY TO CHECK ON SOMETHING), THEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND STARTED BACKWARDS. MY WIFE HAD TO RUN AND JUMP INTO THE MOVING JEEP TO STOP IT. ON THIS OCCASION, SHE WASN'T EVEN IN THE JEEP AND THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS, SO NO ONE TOUCHED THE SHIFT LEVER. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT PAUSE (I.E., TIME TO GET OUT OF THE JEEP AND START TO WALK AWAY) BEFORE THE JEEP CHANGED GEARS. ON THE OCCASIONS WHEN THE JEEP SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT NO PERSON OR OBJECT WAS CLOSE TO THE FRONT OF THE JEEP AND THE DRIVER WAS ALERT AND ABLE TO STOP WITHIN THE FIRST FEW FEET; WE WILL NOT ALWAYS BE SO LUCKY. OTHER MANIFESTATION OF THIS SHIFTING PROBLEM IS WHEN SHIFTED TO REVERSE, WE WATCH THE INDICATOR SAY REVERSE THEN, AFTER A NOTICEABLE PAUSE WITH NO ONE TOUCHING THE GEAR LEVER, THE JEEP WILL SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL OR CONTINUE INTO DRIVE. KNOWING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, WE WATCH THE SHIFT SEQUENCE CLOSELY AND CATCH THIS "SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR SELECTED" PROBLEM TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IS THIS A DRIVE BY WIRE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM?

WHILE SLOWING/BREAKING/DECELERATING FROM ANY SPEED THAT HAS CAUSE VEHICLE TO BE IN GEAR 5+, AROUND 35-25MPH, TRANSMISSION WILL DOWNSHIFT FROM 5-4 AND VEHICLE WILL SURGE. VEHICLE WILL NOT DECELERATE, TRANSMISSION REMAINS IN GEAR 4 AND RPM REMAINS 2K. EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED ON BRAKE TO SLOW VEHICLE. IF BREAK IS NOT APPLIED, VEHICLE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN AND WILL MAINTAIN 25MPH FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. MEASURED DISTANCE I OBTAINED WAS 0.4 MILE BEFORE ENGINE RPM BEGAN TO DECREASE BELOW 2K AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW WITHOUT BRAKE PRESSURE. *TR
I WAS NOTIFIED ON THE RECALL FOR A BRAKE BOOSTER ON 04-1-14 AND ATTEMPTED TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ON 07-10-14 AND 10-2-14 AT AUTO NATION CHRYSLER LOCATED AT 21027 INTERSTATE 45 SPRING, TEXAS. I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. I ASKED TO BE PUT ON THE WAITING LIST. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WAITING LIST AND THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THE PART COMES IN. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. I ALSO ATTEMPTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER AND THEY TOTALLY BLEW ME OFF. I FINALLY HAVE THE VEHICLE SCHEDULED FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACEMENT ON 06-08-15. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH THIS DEFECT FOR OVER A YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAVE PARTS FOR TWO OUT OF THE SIX RECALLS MY VEHICLE HAS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNSAFE. I DRIVE MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN CHRYSLER AND THEIR DEALERSHIP AUTO NATION. BY NOT HAVING A WAITING LIST THEY HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION OR PAPER TRAIL OF THIS EXTENDED WAIT TO HAVE THESE VEHICLES FIXED. PLEASE HELP ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND FROM 2ND TO 3RD. IT ALSO HAS A PRONOUNCED "WOBBLE AFTER IT SHIFTS FROM 1ST INTO 2ND GEAR, AND CONTINUES UNTIL IT SHIFTS HARD INTO 3RD GEAR AT ABOUT 20 MPH. AFTER A STOP WILL NOT GO INTO 1ST GEAR FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN ABRUPTLY SURGES FORWARD WITH MORE SPEED THAN THE AMOUNT OF ACCELERATOR YOU ARE GIVING IT. WHEN DECELERATING, THE TRANSMISSION WILL ACTUALLY GO INTO 4TH GEAR AND ADD FUEL CAUSING THE TACHOMETER TO GO UP BETWEEN 500 AND 1000 RPM. THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH TOUTED AS A "9 SPEED", IS USELESS, AS IT WILL NOT GO IN EITHER AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY AT ANY SPEED BELOW 75 OR 76 MPH EVEN THOUGH IT EASILY COULD AT 67 OR 68 MPH WITH SUFFICIENT RPM TO STILL MAINTAIN SPEED. THIS JEEP IS EQUIPPED WITH THE TOWING PACKAGE FROM THE FACTORY. TOWING A 17' BOAT TRAVELING OVER 300 MILES, THE CAR RAN NORMALLY ON THE WAY TO THE DESTINATION SHIFTING WHEN IT NEEDED TO AND EVEN GOING INTO 8TH GEAR A GOOD DEAL OF THE TRIP. ON THE RETURN TRIP, THE TRANSMISSION REFUSED TO SHIFT OUT OF 5TH GEAR EVEN THOUGH THE TACH WAS REGISTERING 3K TO 4K RPM EVEN WHEN GOING DOWNHILL. IT ALSO SEEMED TO BE LOSING POWER AND HAVING DIFFICULTY GOING UP SLIGHT GRADES ON THE INTERSTATE. A FEW TIMES I GOT IT INTO 7TH GEAR BY COMPLETELY LETTING UP ON THE GAS GOING DOWNHILL BUT AS SOON AS WE STARTED UP A SLIGHT GRADE IT WOULD AGAIN GO INTO 5TH AND NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR. WHEN I REPORTED THESE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION FOR THIS TRANSMISSION / VEHICLE. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT DID THESE THINGS AND COULD BE CALLED "NORMAL OPERATION". I FEEL THIS TRANSMISSION IS A CLEAR DANGER TO ALL WHO HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, AND THE NHTSA REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS AND HAVE CHRYSLER DO SOMETHING SOON TO RECTIFY THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND DEATH ARE THE OUTCOME. *TR

WHEN APPLYING GAS TO THE JEEP THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES THEN LUNGES FORWARD REQUIRING DRIVER TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO AVOID REAR ENDING VEHICLE IN FRONT. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF JEEP TO ROUND THE BEND AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN ROAD. ( 4 ) JEEP GETS VERY POOR MILEAGE, SEEMS TO HAVE HIGH RPM AND SEEMS TO BE STUCK IN TOO LOW OF GEAR ON HIGHWAY.
