I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL ON 9/9/2014 FOR PART P41/NHTSA 14V-438 IGNITION SWITCH TO THIS DATE THE DEALER HAS NOT CALL ME TO REPLACE THIS PART RIGHT NOW MY JEEP WON'T START, AND BEFORE THIS HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE ENGINE LOSS POWER WHY IS TAKING SO LONG TO REPLACE THIS PART ??? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND RESTARTED ON ITS OWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE ENGINE DIED. WHEN THE ENGINE DIED, THE ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING AND BRAKING WERE FINE AT FIRST. I STEERED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BEFORE COMING TO A STOP, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CAR RE-STARTED IMMEDIATELY, HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ...UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF ABOUT ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE ABOVE EVENT, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE TRAIN STATION ON A PERFECTLY DRY AND CLEAR DAY AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE VARIOUS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD PERIODICALLY BUCK WHILE THE RPM'S WOULD REV HIGHER FOR A MOMENT. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE. THE NEST DAY WHEN I STARTED IT, THE TRACTION LIGHTS WERE OFF AND THE CAR APPEARED TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE LIGHTS THAT WERE ON WERE THE ESP, BAS, AND THE PICTURE OF THE CAR SLIDING. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR, THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANY ISSUE WITH THE TRACTION SYSTEM. THE SAME TRACTION ISSUE HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AND HAS YET TO BE REPAIRED. UPDATED 09/29/15*JB

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HWY AND MY VEHICLE TURNED OFF. I LOST POWER STEERING BREAKS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAD HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE THIS TIME, AND I LOOKED TO SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY JEEP FOR AN INGITION SWITCH AND THE THE EXACT DISCRIPTION OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF MY CAR WAS EFFECTED FIT MY SITUATION. I THEN CALLED JEEP AND ADVISED THEM OF THIS AND THEY SAID I NEEEDED TO HAVE IT DIAGNOISED BY A JEEP DEALERSHIP. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AT MY EXPENSENSE AND RENTED A CAR AT MY EXPENSE. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED MY ASSUMPTION AND IN FACT THE ISSUE I WAS EXPERIENCING IS PART OF THE RECALL. JEEP NOW TELLS ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS AND THEY HAVE NOT MADE A DECISION ON WHETHER IT'S NECCESSARY TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE UNTIL THEY HAVE A RESOLVE. AM I SUPPOSED TO BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE OR POTENTIALLY DRIVE MINE WITH 3 CHILDREN, AND POTENTIALLY LOOSE POWER AGAIN CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL? WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO DO FROM HERE?

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED FOR THEIR SAFETY AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
JUST AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO 30 MPH TO ENTER A PARKING LOT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THEN ALL LIGHTS FADED AND TURNED OFF. THE AC TURNED OFF AND THE RADIO TURNED OFF. THE CAR STILL CONTINUED DRIVING BUT THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE, CAUSING THE CAR TO SHAKE AND JOLT MID TURN. THE BRAKES WEREN'T WORKING AS THEY NORMALLY WOULD RESULTING IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION HAD ANY OTHER CAR BEEN CLOSE TO ME AT THE TIME. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC RIGHT AWAY AND HE TESTED EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY. EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONING AT 100% CAPACITY AND HE COULDN'T FIND A REASON FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO BE ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN FEAR THAT IT WILL BREAK DOWN OR MY FAMILY OR ANOTHER DRIVER.

MY VECHICLE WAS RECALL ED OVER 2 YEARS AGO FOR STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND I KEEP GETTING LETTERS TO COME IN FOR REPAIS BUT THEY NEVER HAVE PARTS. MY CAR IS UNSAFE. I WANT IT FIXED. I'VE EXPERIENCED THE INCIDENT 5 TIMES.

2006 JEEP COMMANDER ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES ARE ALL BROKEN AND DIFFICULT TO PRY OPEN STARTED AROUND 75000 MILES. NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON DIFFERENT JEEP SITES. JEEP HAS NOT ISSUED ANY RECALL REGARDING THIS UNSAFE SITUATION.

MY AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF ON THERE OWN THEN MY LIGHTS STARTED TURNING ON AND OFF AS I DROVE.. THATS THE START ..ONE DAY IM DRIVING HOME WITH MY KIDS AND MY CAR STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TRYED EVERYTHING WOULDNT START BUT WINDOWS WORKED EXCEPT FRONT AND LIGHTS BUT NO POWER. I HAD IT TOWED TO JEEP AND THEY INSISTED IT WAS MY BATTERY.I GO GET MY TRUCK AND AS IM DRIVING ALL MY LIGHTS COME BACK ON AND ALL MY GAUGES NO LONGER WORKED,AIRBAGS NO LONGER WORKED. THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND P41 CODE CAME ON WHICH IS MY IGNITION SWITCH RECALL FROM CHRYSLER.JEEP HAD ME CONTACT CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THAT PART WONT BE AVAILABLE NO TIME SOON AND THEY WERE GOING TO PUT ME IN A RENTAL . THE NEXT DAY CHRYSLER CONTACTED JEEP AND THEN JEEP SAID THEY HAVE NO IDEA ITS SOME ELECTRICAL BUT THEY CANT GUARANTEE SO I CALLED THE MANAGER AND TOLD THEM ITS UNACCEPTABLE I AM WITHOUT A CAR BECAUSE CHRYSLER WONT FIX THE RECALL ITS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CANT DO ANYTHING

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR FAILED TO ELIMINATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

CHRYSLER WAS RESPONSE TO MOVE THE SEAT BACK TO AVOID HITTING THE KEY AND REMOVE ALL THE KEYS FROM THE KEY RING.

AFTER CONTACTING MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP, I AM TOLD THERE STILL IS "NO SOLUTION" TO FIX THE CURRENT IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ON MY JEEP. THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS. MY "OFFICIAL" RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS SEPTEMBER 2014, AND THERE IS NO SOLUTION YET. HOW LONG DOES ONE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A VIABLE SOLUTION? WHY NOT JUST INSTALL A NEW IGNITION SWITCH INSTEAD OF REPLACING PARTS? I BELIEVE I HAVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH, AND STILL NO FIX. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE WIDE SPREAD. ALL THE INTSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND THE A/C RADIO HEATER TACHOMETER SPEEDOMETER ETC STOP WORKING. I INVESTIGATED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NO CLEAR CUT FIX. MY JEEP IS INCLUDED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL AND I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A RELATED PROBLEM. THERE IS NO ETA FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH PARTS! I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE YESTERDAY.
I HAVE GETTING INTERMEDIATE MESSAGE SINCE MAY SAYING "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" IN DASH AREA. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MAY 14, IN WHICH THEY TOOK AN EDUCATED GUESS TO CHANGE MY TRANSMISSION FLUID. I AGREED TO THE SERVICE WHICH DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK TO BACK THE DEALER AGAIN ON JUNE 1, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME THE DEALER TECHNICIANS WORKED ALONG WITH CHRYSLER BY OPENING A CASE. THE CORPORATE CHRYSLER TECHS RECOMMEND TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID, I AGREED TO DO THAT. SINCE MAY I HAVE SPENT OVER $1320.00 AT DULLES JEEP AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE ADVISE HOW CAN YOU HELP ME? THANK YOU ANDREW
TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP WARNING CAME ACROSS THE DASHBOARD AND CONTINUED AFTER TRUCK WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. COOLANT AND TEMPS LEVELS ARE NORMAL. WARNING HAS CONTINUED TO COME ON PAST COUPLE DAYS AT 60 DEGREE WEATHER WITH NO REASONING AS TO WHY. NO ELECTRICAL FAILURES OR OTHER PROBLEMS EXIST.
THERE IS ACTUALLY A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR MY VEHICLE, P41/NHTSA 14V-438. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES CALLING CHRYSLER'S GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 800-853-1403 AND GET AUTOMATED RESPONSE THAT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, MAINLY WHILE USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, MY KNEE HAS HIT THE SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. MOST TIMES I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO START BACK UP RIGHT AWAY. HOWEVER, RECENTLY I LOST ALL POWER AND ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING ME FROM BEHIND AND IT WOULDN'T RESTART, I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE, JUST NARROWLY AVOIDING GETTING REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE. NOW, I HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD THAT IS STARTING TO DRIVE AND IT SCARES ME TO HAVE MY CHILD DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I NOTICED MY TRUCK WAS SLOWING DOWN WITHOUT ME APPLYING THE BRAKES AND ONCE I DID APPLY THE BRAKES I WAS INFORMED I HAD ONLY ONE BRAKE LIGHT WORKING. AT THAT TIME I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO A PART STORE TO HAVE THE FUSES CHECK AND I PURCHASED MORE BULBS AND FOUND OUT THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM NOT EVEN THE NEW BULBS WORKED AND THE FUSES WERE GOOD AS WELL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2014 FROM DRIVE TIME OF COLUMBUS, GA AND WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE RECALL. THE CARFAX ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VEHICLE DID NOT MENTION ANY DEFECTS AS A MATTER OF FACT THE CARFAX LISTED THIS VEHICLE AS ALMOST PERFECT. I HAVE CONTACT CHRYSLER REGARDING THIS MATTER AND THEY TOO LET ME KNOW THIS PROBLEM WAS PART OF THE RECALL BUT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND IT IS MAY 2015.
