I am writing to express my deep concern regarding a serious safety issue with my 2021 Jeep Gladiator (VIN: [XXX] ). On Sunday, [XXX], while my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway near our home in southeast Boston, she experienced intense and violent shaking that did not subside until she slowed down and pulled over. She was alone at the time, and the event was frightening and could have led to a severe accident. Upon researching the issue, she discovered it is commonly referred to as the "Death Wobble," a phenomenon widely reported online and even acknowledged by Jeep dealers, including Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Columbia. Following the incident, I contacted our local Jeep dealer, Best Jeep in Plymouth, MA, to have the vehicle inspected. Their service team identified the issue and replaced the following parts: •Damper Steering •Bolt Shoulder Square Neck •Nut Hex Flange Lock •Bolt Hex Flange Head •Nut Hex Nut Coned Washer When I inquired with Service Advisor Matthew Preston about warranty coverage, he informed me that the repairs were not covered because the vehicle is outside the warranty period. However, he also mentioned that this problem is common in other Jeeps, further emphasizing its systemic nature. From my research, I learned that Jeep has acknowledged this issue in the past. A proposed settlement in 2022 extended warranty coverage for specific models, including certain Jeep Gladiators, to cover the replacement of front suspension dampers. This settlement highlights the widespread nature of the "Death Wobble" and the manufacturer’s recognition of the problem. Numerous Jeep owners have reported similar issues, and the phenomenon is so concerning that it has been the subject of widespread media. I firmly believe that it should be addressed through a factory recall. A vehicle as recent as our 2021 Jeep Gladiator should not be experiencing such critical safety issues. The third brake light on the Gladiator is a known issue. When it goes out, there is no warning on the dash or error code. The entire light has to be replaced (LED) vs just a bulb. This is a hazard as the third brake light can go out and no one will know until the vehicle is in an accident. Wasn't the third brake light mandatory equipment since 1985?
My 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave began experiencing "Death Wobble" in early December, 2024, at highway speeds after hitting a bump in the road. I purchased this vehicle new from the dealer in 2021. I put new tires on the vehicle at 60,000 miles in September, 2024. The wobble is violent and sustained resonant shaking of the front end that continues until the vehicle speed decreases below 30 MPH. I had the front end inspected and the wheels re-balanced and rotated by Big-O, but the problem persists. Big-O indicated that the bushings, stabilizers, tie-rods, ball joints and bearings appeared tight, but the steering damper may need to be replaced. I've attempted numerous times to schedule investigation and repair with the Stoneridge Dodge Chrysler dealer in Pleasanton, CA, but so far have been unsuccessful. The dealer does not appear to take this issue seriously, and said I may need to leave the vehicle with them for a week or two until they could get around to looking at it. I've started researching this issue and discovered that there are pages of complaints on NHTSA and the blogs are full of horror stories regarding this issue. There was a class-action lawsuit settled by FCA but it appears to apply only to the 2020 Gladiator and 2018-2020 Wranglers. Service Bulletin 02-004-21 has some instruction for re-torquing the lower ball joints and Mopar Case Number [XXX] has instruction for replacement of the Steering Damper 68251580AF and outboard attachment bolt 06513445AA. Hopefully, FCA will step up and correct this issue before someone is seriously injured or killed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving my 2021 Jeep Gladiator and stopped at a red light at a busy intersection. When the light changed to green, I removed my foot from the brake and attempted to go through the intersection. Instead of moving forward the truck engine turned off and would not restart. As this was a busy intersection this was an extremely dangerous situation for both myself and other motorists. A local police officer assisted me in pushing the truck out of the intersection. The truck then had to be towed to a Jeep dealership. After an initial diagnosis at the dealership the issue was not readily apparent, and the dealership could not get the truck to start. After multiple diagnosis attempts the dealership believes the issue is a faulty Radio Frequency Hub Module, Fuse, Relay, and Auxiliary Battery. The truck is still at the dealership awaiting the parts so it is not clear if this will correct the truck turning itself off. Also, there were no warning signs or indicator lights on when this occurred. One final note, this model truck is known to have an issue with a leaking rear window. My rear window did leak and was replaced under warranty. I have learned that the Radio Frequency Hub Module is located in the rear wall of this truck below the rear window.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the contact became aware that the passenger’s side headlamp was not illuminating. After a visual inspection of the headlamp assembly, the contact observed that the wires leading into the headlamp assembly were melted. The contact stated that two weeks later the failure occurred with the driver’s side headlamp. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the headlamp assembly. The contact was informed that the headlamp assemblies need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 42,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the DEF tank message was displayed, notifying the contact to “See the Dealer”. Additionally, there was a message indicating 200 miles were remaining before the vehicle would fail to start. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the tank and sensor needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 165.
Just purchased this vehicle from Anderson Nissan of Lake Havasu City, AZ with 4759 miles. After leaving the city and driving on [XXX] heading [XXX], I immediately encountered fairly serious speed wobbles at 70 mph after driving over the bridges for drainage under the highway. Immediately slowed to 60 mph to stop wobble. This occurred approximately 8 times on [XXX] after driving over these bridges or irregular pavement. Nearly home, I was involved in an extremely serious speed wobble at 70 - 75 mph in an area of [XXX] in [XXX]. A slight vibration occurred then an extremely violent speed wobble ensued. Cars in this area drive at very high speeds. Fortunately, I was able to get the car to the side of the road without getting hit or wrecking. I barely kept control of it and very surprised I did not wreck with the other cars. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started to wobble. The contact's husband researched the failure and determined that the vehicle was experiencing the death wobble. The vehicle was uncontrollable while driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, where it was determined that the steering damper needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that there was no recall for the failure. The contact called the recall center and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
UNKNOWN 3rd brake light has faulty solder and keeps going out. Had it replaced under warrenty and now needs replaced again. Out of warrenty. Needs to be a recall on this. Safety issue when 3rd brake light does not work.
2021 Jeep Gladiator at 43K miles brought in for oil change. Lube tech noticed that the right rear axle seal was leaking fluid with fluid sprayed over the inner wheel and nearby assembly. FSA Customer Satisfaction Notification states to reference CSN 26A and that the recommended remedy is to replace the right rear shaft. If not repaired/replaced, this could lead to damage to the transmission. I contacted my local dealership who informed me that my vehicle had no open recalls, even though Jeep forums state the problem is affecting thousands of Gladiators like mine.
the car will not accelerate or maintain speed. it is apparently a bad gear position sensor which was recalled on subsequent models however is not listed as a recall on this model. this clutch had just been replaced after a 2 year long wait for a recall fix
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.
Vehicle only has 18000 mile, and is garaged. The third brake light has failed. In reviewing this on line, it appears to be a common problem. No reason for just a simple device to fail prematurely due a lack of durability testing that is available. This is a safety issue in a world of bad drivers out there.
My vehicle has about 17,000 miles. Both key fobs are failing to connect with the vehicle. The batteries have been checked by the dealership to determine the fobs are in working order. Without having the fob work, I am unable to unlock my doors or start the engine. Thankfully, learnng my fobs were not connecting occured while in my garage at my home. However, if this occured while away from home, or at night, I would have been stranded with no access to drive the vehicle. My Gladiator will have to be towed to the dealership now to get this resolved.
This vehicle has a repeating electronic problem involving the warning lights and function of abs, traction control, four-wheel drive system, forward collision warning, and both adaptive and normal cruise control. When the steering wheel is turned slightly right, like when navigating a highway curve, those warnings illuminate and the vehicle disables cruise control. It also has a lack of power due to what seems to be the traction control system activating. Also, the brake system has a shutter in the pedal and has reduced effectiveness for a few moments until the ABS and traction control systems stop function. I have taken the vehicle into a dealer, Larry H Miller CDJR in West Bountiful, Utah when it started to show this problem as I was leaving Portland. They replaced the front left ABS wheel speed sensor. This did not rectify the problem. I then took it to Gene's Chrysler in Fairbanks, Alaska upon my return home. That shop failed to warranty the repair, and charged additional diagnosis fees on top of correcting the Z96 high pressure fuel pump recall. They advised replacing the clock spring in the steering wheel that provides electrical connection to the buttons and is integrated in all of those safety systems. Prior Jeep models have had a consistent problem with the clock spring failing and a recall was issued due to affecting airbag deployment from the steering wheel. I am concerned that this clock spring related issue may lead to reduced braking effectiveness, loss of power at speed to react to traffic, and failure to deploy the airbag in an accident. The dealerships will not warranty this repair.
The other day I went out to my truck and the battery was dead lights clicking and wipers going. It's the original battery so I assume that I needed a new one bought one put it in find a couple days and then went out in the morning and the battery was dead. Put in another new battery, same thing drove a few days and this morning the battery is dead. So something is draining my battery? I have not done anything to it since it was new no addition. There's a lot of form on the internet with similar issues concerned about what's draining my battery??? Just went out of warranty!
Had seen that Chrysler had a recall for electrical for the dash cluster going on/black. It had just went completely black so I was unable to tell if vehicle was in gear, the speed of the vehicle. I went to the dealer and was told it was a known problem and the part was on national back order and would take over a month to receive. I went through Infotainment with the mileage and purchase/replaced on my own. I do still have the OEM part. FCS's # 30B Infotainment order #[XXX] ordered on 8/2/2024 at a cost of $1,148.59. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with a loud rattling noise coming from the clutch. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The vehicle would not turn over, but the battery came on. The vehicle wouldn’t allow me to turn off the battery and stayed in the position while I waited for the tow truck. By the time the vehicle made it to the dealership they refused to do a diagnostic and attempted to charge me for battery replacement even though it was due to a car malfunction. While the care was glitching the dash displayed messages about the stability control module and transmission were out and malfunctioning. If I were to be driving, the vehicle would have shut down while I was driving.
My 2021 Jeep Gladiator received the 19A Clutch Recall in late June 2024. The recall was issued due to clutch pressure plates disintegrating, blowing a hole in the transmission housing, and causing vehicle fires. Upon return, my vehicle was unable to drive smoothly. After further investigation, I determined that if the clutch and throttle were operated concurrently, the engine would shut off. The engine would shut off anywhere between 1 MPH and highway speed causing issues with operating hydraulically assisted systems (power brakes and power steering). In practice, this led to the engine shutting off between most gear shifts causing a jerky driving condition due to the engine needing to clutch start itself. I did not test how well the steering or brakes worked while the engine was shut off due to safety concerns. While pulling into my driveway, I momentarily lost control of the vehicle when the engine died while traveling at low speed and with the steering wheel turned. I lost power steering and was unable to correct the direction in travel before driving onto my lawn. I returned the vehicle to the dealership and replicated the issue for them. They confirmed the issue was present. The issue was determined to be a faulty ECU flash causing the issue. A revised flash was made available to dealerships 7/12/24 and installed in my vehicle 7/15/24. Component that Failed: Faulty ECU flash Safety: The vehicle's engine would shut off while moving Reproduced by Dealership: Yes Inspected by Manufacturer: No Warning lights or messages: No Additional Info: I have been in contact with other owners with the same issue. This faulty ECU flash seems to only have had this effect on 2021 models. The following is personal input. I hope the irony is not lost on you all that a safety recall fix caused an arguably more pronounced and repeatable safety problem. Additionally, I notified Jeep Cares that this could kill or injure someone and they told me to send Chrysler a letter.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that the passenger’s side rear axle was leaking. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the "Rear Axle Locked" message was flashing on the instrument panel. Upon investigation, the contact discovered an unknown recall for the rear axle fluid leak. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,080.
Transmission failure 850RE. 86000 miles. Known problem with this transmission. Left wife and children stranded in a very dangerous location on highway. Could not move vehicle off roadway.

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The LED center high-mounted stop lamp, more commonly called the 3rd brake light, failed. A silent code was available to be read by only the dealership service; there were no visible warnings on the vehicle nor any owner online dashboards. In fact, the owner online dashboard had green across the board and clearly stated no issues were detected. The real issue here, and the reason for this submission, is that this LED should not have failed at less than three years and reviewing online many people have been having the same exact issue. Without any visible warnings to the driver, I have no idea how long it has been out. An investigation into a potential recall should be initiated as this is starting to sound like a manufacture defect that is affecting a legally required center high-mounted stop lamp. Minimally, there should be a software update to inform the driver of this error code and not have it be silent such that only a dealership service center is able to read it.
The windshields chips very easily and then shatters The third break light quits working and the rear turn signal randomly quit working
Started hard shifting and then really struggled to shift and accelerate once I slowed down. Took to dealership and they said the transmission will need to be replaced. The engine light came on just shortly after the hard shifting and inability to accelerate.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the windshield wipers activated while in the off position. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the Hybrid and standard batteries were drained and needed to be placed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,050.
Several times a day when I drive over un-even pavement the front end, wheels, & steering wheel start violently shaking and become uncontrollable to the point other vehicles move out of the way. It will only stop when speed is lowered low 5 mph. This has happened between 25-40 mph. Too afraid to drive at highway speeds. This vehicle is a 2021 with only 12,800 miles on it. Very scary situation to be in, especially for a vehicle I bought new and have never taken off road.
Rear view camera has stopped functioning. Vehicle is difficult to see out of when backing up. Lack of rear view camera makes reversing dangerous in certain situations. No. No. Camera failed with no warning.
At speeds of 45-70mph the Jeep randomly begins a violent shaking of the steering wheel/tires/suspension components. The Jeep is completely stock and the tires have been rotated and rebalanced which did not assist in resolving the issue.
When driving on the interstate at interstate speeds, the steering randomly locked up. The steering wheel could not be turned.
Jeep stoped running Towed to dealership Diagnostic shows recall fuel pump failure . Z 96/NHTSA-22V-767 I have dealership RO# 68945 Case # 88652766
While driving on a highway around 70 MPH upon traveling on a bumpy portion of roadway or a transition from an overpass back to roadway the steering starts to Shimmy extremely bad. The only way to get this to stop is pull over and bring the vehicle to a complete stop. I was almost killed when there was no shoulder available In a construction zone on [XXX] in Florida and I had to stop in the lane of traffic and was almost rear ended by a semi tractor trailer. I’ve made a complaint about this before. The dealer previously changed the steering damper but unfortunately the new damper is not the fix to this safety issue. Luckily I’m an experienced driver and a retired law enforcement officer and have calmness to work through this issue. If it was a young driver with little experience the outcome would be sadly different. Sooner or later I believe a fatality will occur due to this. This vehicle has around 8000 miles on it. While driving at highways speeds, several times the steering would start to wobble violently. Normally after hitting a small bump in the road. After researching this was called a death wobble. The vehicle is stock and has not been modified. Has jeep issued a remedy?

At highway speed and encountering a small bump the front-end will jump violently side to side. This can only be stopped by braking to below 50 MPH. Nearly got rear-ended numerous times.
There is an active parts recall for some Gladiators, Recall 26A, for the right rear axle shaft. This part on my vehicle has been failing for over 6 months. The ABS system, Traction Control, and 4WD system have active fault codes, preventing these systems from working as intended. In the last month, this problem has become unsafe due to 3 separate incidents where the traction control has triggered during normal driving conditions, causing the vehicle to become inoperable. In each of these incidents, I was travelling in a straight line, on dry roads, when the traction control system activated, preventing all acceleration to occur. In the first occurrence I was in a tunnel, and unable to pull over as there was no shoulder. This was driving in a straight line, accelerating up to about 15 mph before the traction control kicked in and disabled the drive train. Traffic was able to safely pass me while I coasted through the tunnel with my hazards on. Turning the vehicle off, then back on was the only way to cure this condition. The next 2 times were both at unprotected stop signs, meaning cross traffic did not have a stop sign. When I pulled out into the middle of the road, the traction control activated, causing the vehicle to lose forward momentum and power. One of these incidents, traffic did have to slow and alter course to account for my vehicles failure in the road. During the 6 months of the axle going out, the ABS system triggers at intermittent times during normal driving/braking conditions. I have tried working with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and with Chrysler directly. Both parties deflect responsibility to the other, stating there is no way to help escalate these problems because they are a recall item. I have been directed to wait for parts and to continue driving the vehicle, despite it seeming like a safety risk.
See video of incident here: [XXX] Additional video is here: [XXX] The incidents happened while driving on the interstate at approximately 70mph. When a normal expansion joint or bump was traversed, the steering wheel would suddenly oscillate continuously, with the degree of the oscillation growing more severe over time. The entire body of the vehicle shook violently. The only way to recover from the severe oscillation was to reduce speed substantially - generally to below 40 mph - or to encounter another bump to upset the oscillation. We took the Gladiator to a local Jeep dealership. They stated they replaced the steering damper and that the manufacturer had updated the part number (the failed damper was the old part number). However, we still feel a looseness in the suspension that we did not feel previously with this vehicle. When traversing bumps at speed, sometimes the oscillation can still be felt, but it is not continuous as shown in the videos. We suspect the steering damper may have been damaged to due another loose or failed component that is still in service on the vehicle. The vehicle is stock and has not been modified previously. Mopar recall Z96 posted October, 13th 2022 for high pressure fuel pump. My local dealership stated parts for replacement of the high pressure fuel pump did not become available until November of 2023. They inspected my vehicle November 21st, 2023 and determined the high pressure fuel pump was to be replaced under mopar recall Z96. Dealership ordered parts at that time. On to March 4th, 2024. I reach out to local dealerships service and parts departments. Not all parts had been received and there was no understanding of when the rest of the necessary parts would arrive. May 7th, 2024. It is now nearly 1 year and 7 months since this recall was released and nearing 6 months since my local dealership stated they ordered parts to replace the fuel pump. My local dealership continues to have no understanding or intention of securing the remaining parts necessary to complete this recall. This amount of time is unreasonable for a part that if it fails will cause loss of engine power and may cause a fatal crash.
This Jeep has the death wobble. When you’re going 70+ miles an hour and hit a bump. It violently shakes and you have to slow down to 55 quickly for it to stop. This has been an ongoing issue and I have even put a new set of tires on and it’s continued. This is a known issue but there’s not been a recall. I had a previous 2012 Jeep and it did the death wobble on that as well.
Each time I drive my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel over 55-60mph, I experience the 'death wobble' and i have to brake /slow down to under 50mph before it will stop. This is really dangerous on the Atlanta highways where people are driving far in excess of 60mph and tend to tailgate & change lanes quickly. When I first bought the truck, I didn't experience this but in the past year, it has been happening pretty much every time I drive on the highway (which I avoid now). The most recent time was the WORST, which is prompting this complaint.
COMPLAINT: It is unacceptable that there is NO fix for this safety recall. The vehicle can not be considered safe to drive by my local Jeep dealer until a fix is done. Jeep has had since Feb and still there is no remedy. I am losing the safe use and operation of my vehicle.
While driving multiple warnings appears on the dash including bus communication, airbag, transmission communication, and abs. The vehicles engine began to randomly change rpm. The transmission began to shift speratically and was unable to maintain speed. The vehicle would not allow me to turn on hazard lights to warn surrounding motorists. Similar warnings appeared on the dash once before and the vehicle would not start and left me stranded. When taken in for service for the no start issue, the dealer performed no repairs for this issue and stored P codes were cleared prior to the vehicle being returned to me. I am currently awaiting a service appointment for the issue that happened while driving.
2021 Jeep Gladiator High Altitude with 29000 miles and in stock configuration. Experienced the "Death Wobble" after hitting slight depression in roadway at 65mph. Jeep front end would not stop vibrating until at complete Stop. This appears to be a design flaw. Reporting the occurance to the dealer for resolution.
Driving on the freeway at freeway speed. Hit a bridge transition point and the front end started to shake uncontrollably. I braked and was able to pull to the side. Got out and checked. No visible damage. Took the truck to the dealer. They replaced my steering damper and track bar. The truck only had 6K miles. Again at 20,000 miles the same parts needed to be replaced as the same thing was happening. There has been a class action lawsuit settled on this same model. My vehicle is completely stock. This is a huge safety concern.

Experiencing the well known Jeep "death wobble" at highway speeds above 65MPH when riding over a minor surface bump. Very violent shaking of entire vehicle. I have to immediately reduce speed to below 45mph to stop shacking. Reducing this speed at highway speeds is very dangerous, especially if occurring in the passing lane.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired under Manufacturer Recall Number: 26A for the right rear axle shaft; and the dealer determined that the left rear axle shaft was leaking. The dealer diagnosed and determined that the left rear axle, the shaft seals, rear brake pads, and rotor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
The defroster only blows out of the center of the windshield. So the drivers side and passenger sides of the windshield do not clear up at all. This causes me to not being able to safely see where I am driving when my windshield is foggy or covered with snow and ice. This is not the only Jeep Gladiator or Wrangler JL/JLU that is affected. People are complaining all over forums on the internet and to their local dealerships. This issue needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt or killed because you can’t safely see where you are driving or what’s in front of your vehicle or out the side windows since they don’t clear up either like they are supposed to do. I just bought this vehicle on the 28th of August, it only has 12600 miles on it so it is basically brand new and it should not have this issue at all. The 12th was the first time I’ve had to use my defrost in my vehicle and that’s how I found out it didn’t work properly. Having to take your child to school is not a good time to find out you can’t safely drive because you can’t see without constantly using a towel to clean the windshield off.
