CAR WAS PARKED. WHEN STARTED THERE WAS A BANG. OPENED HOOD AND FOUND COOLANT LEAKING AND PLASTIC PIECES FROM THE FAN ALL OVER AND THE RADIATOR SHROUD CRACKED AND BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING, AN UNDETERMINED SPEED, A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD WAS HEARD AND THE HEATER GAUGE INDICATED THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD AND LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE FAN FRACTURED AND HIT THE RADIATOR CAUSING DAMAGE. THE PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND REPAIRS WILL BE MADE BY THE CONTACT. THE DEALER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND THE BRAKES BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE. UPDATED 12/01/06.*JB
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PURCHASED IN 2002 I BELIEVE. I HAVE BEEN READING A LOT OF FORUM ABOUT OWNERS WITH SAME CAR HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THE POWER LOCK GO BAD AFTER A FEW YEARS, ALSO THE LEFT TAIL LIGHT SEEM TO HAVE SOME BURN OUT ISSUES PREVENTING THE LIGHTS FROM WORKING PROPERLY. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE FRONT TWEETER SPEAKS ARE OFTEN BLOWN. IN MY CASE BOTH MY REAR DOOR POWER LOCK ACTUATORS WENT BAD AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND HAVE TO GET OUT MY CAR AND OPEN THE REAR DURING BY PLACING MY HAND THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE OTHER REAR DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE USING THE POWER LOCKING FEATURE ON THE KEY. NEXT MY CAR CAN'T PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE THE TAILLIGHT IS OUT. IT WORKS FINE AT TIMES BUT WHEN I STEP ON THE BREAKS IT CAUSES ALL THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS ON AND OFF. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS MANY TIMES. AFTER REVIEWING SOME FORUM AND GOING TO A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD MY LEFT TAIL LIGHT HAS A SHORT IN IT. I WILL NEED A NEW ONE. NEXT MY FRONT SPEAKERS HAVE BLOWN. THE COST FOR EACH PART NOT INCLUDING LABOR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS -- $98 TAILLIGHT -- $171 TWEETER -- $68.86 A PIECE AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT BULB WOULD OVERHEAT THE HOUSING AND MELTED THE AREA WHERE THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS LOCATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDES. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE HOUSING WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE AND DID NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY BESIDES REPLACING THE HOUSING, WHICH THE CONTACT STATED WAS DONE TWICE PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 198,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25PMH THE VEHICLE WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD BY ANOTHER DRIVER. THE VEHICLE HIT A TELEPHONE POLE WITH THE FRONT END. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE RECEIVED DAMAGE AND ALL OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS, HOWEVER NEITHER FRONTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THERE WAS PROPERTY DAMAGE AND POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER, BUT HAVE NOT DETERMINED WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VENTILATION SYSTEM IN MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND THEN STOPPED. NOW IT JUST BLOWS OUT COLD AIR EVEN WHEN I HAVE THE HEAT ON. I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED AND I CAN'T FIX IT MY SELF. IT IS A CONSTANT NUISANCE. CONSUMER COMPLAINT CONCERNING THE 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE SAFETY RECALL F25 ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN. *TS THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT, BECAUSE SHE ALREADY HAD THE PART REPLACED. *JB
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY BATTERY NOT STAYING CHARGED. THE FIRST OCCURRED WHEN I HAD LET THE CAR SET FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS, IT WOULD NOT START. *TR THE BATTERY WOULD NOT JUMP. I HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERY. THE BATTERY POST ALWAYS GET CORROSION ON IT. I HAVE HAD IT CLEANED AND CHANGED A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND IT STILL GETS CORROSION ON IT IN 2 DAYS. I WAS TOLD ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO THAT IT COULD BE THE WIRES THAT RUN FROM ONE OF THE POST TO THE ENGINE. THIS TIME, MY NEW BATTERY ONLY LASTED ABOUT 3 MONTHS. SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BUY A NEW BATTERY. IT APPEARS THAT SOMETHING IS DRAINING MY BATTERY, BUT NO ONE CAN FIND OUT WHAT. I HAD TO GET A NEW BATTERY, BUT I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL GET DRAINED ALSO.
MY CAR HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX, THEN I FIND THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS DUE TO THE AUTOMAKER'S PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR IS ON RECALLS FOR THE PROBLEMS I AM HAVING. 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR FAILURE WITH FREON LEAKING INTO VEHICLE. FREON DISPLACED OXYGEN AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO BECOME DROWSY. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT THERE WAS A SQUEAKING NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, UNDERNEATH THE SEAT, THE FRONT LEFT MOUNTING BOLT AREA WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION.

ADDITIONALLY, WHILE APPLYING SUDDEN BRAKE PRESSURE, THE SEAT MOVED FORWARD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE FRONT SEAT ANCHORAGE WAS BROKEN. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE CHECKING THE OIL, THE HYDRAULIC HOOD SUPPORTS FAILED ALLOWING THE HOOD TO STRIKE THE CONTACT IN THE HEAD. MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER. UPDATED 4/6/2006 - *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT HAS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 60000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE (98V095000) ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN AFTER SHE HAD THE FAILURE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT SUBMITTED HER INFORMATION TO THE MANUFACTURER TO BE REIMBURSED. THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO PAY THE REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THAT IT WAS NOT FOR THE SAME REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAS THE REPAIR ORDER FROM THE MECHANIC WHO FIXED THE VEHICLE WHICH STATED THE WORK THAT WAS DONE WHICH COINCIDED WITH THE RECALL NOTICE FAILURE.
VEHICLE: 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT PULSATED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THIS OCCURRED THREE TIMES: SEPT 2001 (13,700 MILES), JAN 2003 (24,800 MILES) AND MAR 2006 (43,600 MILES). THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO INHERENT FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE'S BRAKING SYSTEM OR EQUIPMENT (INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL BRAKE ROTORS & CALIPERS, AND THE REPLACEMENT PARTS). *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE LOOKING INTO THE VEHICLE ENGINE ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE HOOD CAME DOWN AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE BACK OF THE NECK. THERE WERE NO WARNING SOUNDS PRIOR TO THE HOOD FALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO EXPRESSED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE HOOD PROP RODS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS OF THE CHEROKEES. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE HOOD PROP RODS.
BLEND DOORS ON THE 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CLIMATE SYSTEM WERE BROKEN AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, DEALER WOULD NOT WARRANTY ITEMS, CLAIMING IT WAS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND NOT AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GRAND CHEROKEES, AND QUOTED ME $1200 TO REPAIR THEM ,AND TO EXPECT THEM TO GO ROUGHLY EVERY 2-3 YEARS. IT SEEEMED TO ME LIKE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE AND CUSTOMER'S SHOULD NOT BE LIABLE FOR COVERING IT. APPARENTLY IT AFFECTED 1999-2004 MODELS, SO IT WAS A RECENT MODEL. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE TIRES FELT SQUARE AND THERE WAS AN EXCESSIVE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED. THE BRAKE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE CRANKSAHFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE COULD FEEL THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDER. UPDATED 03/22/06. *JB
THE REAR WINDOW AND TAILGATE REMAIN LOCKED EVEN AFTER UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE. IF YOU LOCK AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE ENOUGH, THE REAR WINDOW AND TAILGATE WILL UNLOCK. THE LOCK SOUNDS AS IF IT IS "SPINNING". *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE WOULD OVER HEAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE STAND STILL POSITION ON A FREQUENT BASIS. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE RADIATOR FAN RELAY SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD THE PART REPLACED. ALSO, WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HAD AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED NORMALLY. THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT SIGNAL ANY WARNING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE PART, WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.
REAR HATCH DOOR WON'T LOCK BOTH REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE WON'T LOCK UNLOCK DOOR READ REVIEWS MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVING SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
OUR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A TRANSMISSION SELECTOR (AUTOMATIC) THAT HAS SLIPPED SO THAT THERE IS NO PARK. PARK NOW OPERATES AS REVERSE, REVERSE AS NEUTRAL, NEUTRAL AS DRIVE ETC. THERE IS NO LONGER A WAY TO REACH 1ST GEAR AND THE CAR WILL ROLL WHEN IT IS IN PARK. THE CAR IS IN THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOP NOW AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO CAUSE THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FAILURE. *NM
HEADLIGHT PLASTIC LENSES CLOUDING LOW BEAMS INEFFECTIVE. HIGH BEAMS SOMEWHAT BETTER. AUTO NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL LENSES ON OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES TO HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM THE SOONER THE BETTER. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BEGAN MAKING A NOISE WHILE BEING LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE KEY REMOTE. ADDITIONALLY, THE HATCH AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN OR CLOSE. ALL OF THE DOORS HAVE TO BE OPENED MANUALLY AND THE CONTACT HAS TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. CHRYSLER STATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS A COMMON FAILURE AND THE DOORS HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO WOBBLE AND MAKE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO OPERATE SAFELY. COST TO REPAIR WAS $750.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH THE BRAKES PULSATE AND AT 55 MPH THEY SHUDDER MAKING IT HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS THREE TIMES. THE REPAIR DOES NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM FOR MORE THAN 10,000 MILES. *NM UPDATED 2/7/2006 - *NM
DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTERS TO THE BEACH WHEN SUDDENLY MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE AS I WAS ALONG A WINDING ROAD. TOWED TRUCK TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR BOX WAS BROKEN AT THAT POINT HE REPAIRED THE GEAR BOX. APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK LATER THE SAME EXACT THING EXCEPT THAT THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE, AGAIN TOWED THE TRUCK BACK TO MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE GEAR BOX. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE WHEN I EXPERIENCED MY STEERING WHEEL FREEZE AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED QUICKLY SO MINIMAL DAMAGE WAS SUFFERED. IN 1 YEAR THAT I OWN THIS VEHICLE THE RADIATOR HAS ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, THE LOCKS ON MY DRIVER DOOR STOPPED WORKING, THE FAN IN THE COOLING SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE MUFFLER WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED. I NEVER EXPECTED SO MANY FAULTS OR SO MUCH MONEY SPENT IN REPAIRS ON A SO CALLED CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE LOCKING MECHANISM FOR THE FRONT LEFT SEAT FAILED CAUSING THE SEAT TO SLIDE BACKWARDS WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED BUT NOT THE MANUFACTURER.
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4WD. I HAD BEGUN TO NOTICE A SHUDDER WHEN BRAKING AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP (MIDAS). THEY ADVISED ME THAT I WOULD NEED NEW ROTORS, PADS, AND CALIPERS ON AT LEAST THE FRONT BRAKES. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH JEEPS AND THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN GIVEN TO THEM REFERRING THEM TO THIS PROBLEM. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS; IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT JEEP KNOWS ABOUT AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT IS SAFETY RELATED, THEN HOW CAN IT NOT BE A RECALL. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE CALIPERS HAVE A PROBLEM OF 'STICKING', CAUSING UNEVEN ROTOR WEAR AND SHOE FAILURE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, AND NOW HAVE NO REAL RECOURSE TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. *JB
BREAK FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN. WE HAD NO WARNING OF THIS PROBLEM UNTIL WE STARTED DESCENDING A MOUNTAIN IN ARIZONA. THE BRAKES STARTED TO "CHATTER" AND DIDN'T HOLD. I PUT THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR AND WAS ABLE, BARLEY, TO KEEP CONTROL. WE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO A JEEP DEALER SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND THEY TOLD US THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE TOTALLY GONE ON BOTH FRONT TIRES. WE HAD THEM REPLACED. WE'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND IN FACT, HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED JUST SIX MONTHS AGO. THIS WAS THE FOURTH TIME WE'VE REPLACED BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE GEAR SHIFTER CHANGED THE GEARS FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL OR THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHILE TURNING. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP, PULLING OUT OR TURNING WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 20 TO 30MPH. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 99V312000, REGARDING THE GEAR BOX. THE VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT BRACKET OR MOUNT IS BROKEN AND THE SEAT IS SET FACING SLIGHTLY TOWARD THE LEFT PILLAR. IN INVESTIGATING THIS SITUATION WE FOUND THAT BRACKET FAILURE IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THIS MODEL. THIS IS A HAZARDOUS CONDITION AND WARRANTS A RECALL DUE TO ITS FREQUENCY. THIS IS MY WIFE'S VEHICLE AND SHE IS UNSURE ABOUT WHEN THE FAILURE FIRST OCCURRED. *TR

CONSUMER STATED THAT HER DAUGHTER HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AT 3 AM BECAUSE IT RAN HOT AND CUT OFF. *KB THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, COOLING FAN AND RADIATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING A DEFECT WITH THE RADIATOR COOLING FAN WHICH COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. HOWEVER, AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THE LEFT REAR TAIL LAMP WAS INOPERATIVE. *JB

AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS BEFORE THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT PAID $5,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN) WAS REFERENCED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. BOTH MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER & MYSELF HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF BRAKES ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, BEGINNING IN 2003. THE PROBLEM OCCURS MOSTLY IN BAD WEATHER(MAINLY SNOWY CONDITIONS). WHEN STOPPING IS ATTEMPTED, THE CAR PULSATES WILDLY (COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL), AND YOU JUST SKID OUT. WE BOTH HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO AVOID COLLISION SO FAR, DUE TO LACK OF OTHER TRAFFIC OR BY SWERVING INTO ANOTHER LANE, ETC. THE CAR DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS DUE TO WORN ROTORS, WHICH WE HAVE NOW REPLACED 3 TIMES: ONCE IN MARCH OF 2003 AT 10,872 MILES, ONCE IN JULY OF 2004 AT 23,721 MILES AND NOW IN DECEMBER 2005, AT 33,081 MILES. THE FIRST 2 TIMES JEEP PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT, THE 3RD THEY REFUSED. THE SERVICE DEPT. IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY HAVE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, EVEN WITH THEIR OWN VEHICLES...JEEP REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION. THE RUBBER MOLDING AROUND ALL OF THE WINDOWS (EXCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD) HAS FAILED TO REMAIN IN PLACE. THE ACTUATOR IN TWO OF THE DOORS HAS FAILED. *NM
MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO BEGAN EXPERIENCING A COOLANT LEAK AND ABNORMALLY HIGH COOLANT USE, USE THAT I NOTICED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE USED IN AUGUST 2005. IN DECEMBER WHILE GETTING THE OIL CHANGED MY MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE AMOUNT OF ANTIFREEZE IN MY OIL. MY MECHANIC SUSPECTED THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE HEAD GASKET OR PERHAPS EVEN A CRACKED HEAD. WHEN THE HEAD WAS REMOVED HE DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE HEAD HAD BEEN MACHINED INCORRECTLY. ALL OF THE HOLES THAT SURROUND THE PISTON CHAMBER AND ALLOW ANTIFREEZE TO FLOW THROUGH HAD BEEN MACHINED APPROXIMATELY 1/2-3/4 OF AN INCH OFF CENTER WHICH WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT/IMPOSSIBLE FOR A GASKET TO PROPERTY SEAL. MY MECHANIC CONTACTED DAIMLER-CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THERE HAS BEEN ANY RECALLS TO THE ENGINE AND THERE WAS NOT. A REPRESENTATIVE THAT HE HAD CONTACT WITH INDICATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 32 OF THESE HEAD ARE REPLACED EACH WEEK, HE DID NOT INDICATE WHETHER OR NOT THAT WAS FROM THE SAME ENGINE OR FROM DIFFERENT ENGINES MANUFACTURED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER. I RECENTLY BECAME AWARE OF A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE COOLING FAN OF MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON 11/11/05, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN I UNEXPECTEDLY HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FLUID DRAINING FROM MY CAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION UNDER THE HOOD, I DISCOVERED THE COOLING FAN HAD EXPLODED INTO MANY PIECES, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGED MY RADIATOR CAUSING THE LEAK OF COOLANT. THIS WAS A SUDDEN MALFUNCTION WITHOUT ANY SORT OF WARNING, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES SUCH AS SEVERE INJURY AND EVEN DEATH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENCE. WHILE RESEARCHING ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT THAT CHRYSLER IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE BUT HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL. I REQUEST A REIMBURSEMENT FROM CHRYSLER FOR ALL DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO MY VEHICLE DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. I ALSO BELIEVE IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THIS DEFECT BE INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL TO BE ISSUED. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A DEFECT IN 1999- 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. 90% OF ALL OF THE STATED MODELS WILL HAVE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CONTACT AND LOCKING MECHANISM THAT KEEPS THE BULB LOCKED IN PLACE. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB AND THE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT OR LIGHTS WILL FAIL TO LIGHT UP BECAUSE THE DEFECTIVE LOCKING MECHANISM WON'T ALLOW THE ELECTRICAL CURRENT TO MAKE TO THAT PARTICULAR BULB. THIS CAUSES AN INCREASE RISK OF THESE SUV'S BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT IS ALMOST LAUGHABLE. DURING THE WINTER, THE CONTACT MUST REMAIN COLD IN THE VEHICLE AND THE WINDOWS BECOME FOGGY INSTEAD OF DEFROSTING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS POSSIBLY A CONDENSER LEAK IN THE HEATER, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTROL LEVER FOR THE HEATING UNIT TO DETERIORATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS TOO EXPENSIVE. HE HAS FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS FAILURE WITH THE SAME MODEL; THEREFORE, HE BELIEVES THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. A RELAY SHORTED OUT DUE TO A FAILURE WITH THE HEATING MECHANISM AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FILLED WITH SMOKE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

AFTER TAKING IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, I LEARNED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GRAND CHEROKEES, AND WOULD COST ABOUT $400 TO FIX. ALSO, TO EXPECT THE SAME PROBLEM FROM THE OTHER DOOR LOCKS. THE BRACKET UNDER THE SEAT SNAPPED IN A FEW DIFFERENT PLACES, IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BAD WELDING. I FOUND ONLINE THAT MANY PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
