TRANSFER CASE BAD ON DELIVERY. SNAP RING NOT INSTALLED UNIT REPLACED. BRAKE ROTORS WARP EVERY 20K MILES. REPLACED WITH AFTERMARKET AT 40K.. STEERING COLUMN CLUNK AND FEELS LOOSE. DEALER REPLACED WITH NEW, SAME PROBLEM EXISTS. EXCESSIVE CLUNKING AND LOOSENESS IN DRIVELINE. LOUD CLUNK PARK TO REVERSE DEALER SAYS NORMAL BUT LOTS OF COMPLAINTS. MR
THE BRAKE ROTORS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE WARPED 3 TIMES NOW ALMOST CAUSING THE CAR TO VEER OUT OF CONTROL. WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES VERY BAD AND ITS HARD TO CONTROL THE CAR. THE DEALER HAS FIXED THIS PROBLEM TWICE AND NOW AGAIN AT 37,000 MILES THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED AGAIN.. THIS DEFECT WILL EVENTUALLY GET SOMEONE INJURED OR WORSE IF CHRYSLER WON'T FIX IT THE RIGHT WAY. A FEW OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME REOCCURRING PROLEM WITH BAD BRAKE ROTORS.*AK
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS HAVE WARPED ON THIS VEHICLE IN 2 YEARS. WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES SO BAD ITS HARD TO CONTROL THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN FIXED TWICE BEFORE AT THE DEALER AND NOW AGAIN THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY 12 TO 14 THOUSAND MILES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR DO THIS BEFORE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. CHRSYLER TOLD ME TO BAD THAT THEY ARE NOT FIXING IT AGAIN. THERE IS POSITIVELY A DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS VEHICLE AND CHRYSLER MUST FIND THE FIX FOR IT AND RECALL ALL OF THESE CARS BEFORE MANY PEOPLE GET HURT. THE DEALER HAS BEEN HELPFUL BUT THET WILL NOT PAY TO FIX IT ANYMORE AND TOLD ME TO CALL CHRYSLER WHICH I DID TO NO AVAILE. THE SERVICE MANAGER EVEN TOLD ME THAT THE COMPANY KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS BUT CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT AND MAKE IT STAY FIXED. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT CHRYSLER. THEY SHOULD REPAIR THESE BRAKES ON EVERY CAR FOR AS LONG AS PEOPLE OWN THEM. THE PROBLEM IS THEIRS AND WE AS CONSUMERS ARE BEARING THE BRUNT OF IT. JEEPS ARE EXPENSIVE TO BUY AND THE BRAKES SHOULD LAST MORE THAN A FEW THOUSAND MILES.*AK
FRONT END SHIMMIES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *AK
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 40-45MPH, AND SUDDENLY THE STEERING GOT INCREDIBLY STIFF. THE VEHICLE HAD STALLED. I MANAGED TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON. IT CRANKED, BUT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I CALLED JEEP, AND HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE GEAR ON THE CAM SPEED SENSOR. THE MECHANIC SHOWED US WHAT HE SAID WAS THE CAM SENSOR. SEVERAL OF THE TEETH ON THE GEAR WERE SHORN OFF. WE ASKED TO KEEP THE BAD PART, AND THEY SAID THAT WAS NOT ALLOWED. I'M AFRAID THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *AK
AFTER TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY, STOPPED ABOUT 3 FEET FROM STREET, PLACED THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, LEAVING IT OPEN AS I WENT TO THE MAIL BOX TO RETREIVE THE DAY'S MAIL. (THIS HAS BEEN DONE ROUTINELY SINCE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE) I RETREIVED THE MAIL, LOOKING AT SEVERAL PIECES AS USUAL AND EVEN DROPPED A FEW PIECES DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER, THEN WALKED AROUND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE; ALL OF THIS CONSUMED 2 TO 3 MINUTES AND WHILE WALKING PAST THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE I HEARD A SOUND TYPICALLY HEARD IN SHIFTING GEARS. WHEN I REACHED A POSITION AT THE REAR LEFT SIDE DOOR, THE VEHICLE STARTED MOVING BACKWARDS; I TRIED TO GET INTO THE CAR BUT IMMEDIATELY SAW THE DAANGER AND BACKED AWAY. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT INTO THE STREET, CROSSSING THE STREET, AND STOPPED UPON HITTING A MAILBOX POSITIONED DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET. THIS IS A SLIGHT DOWNWARD SLOPE TO OUR DRIVEWAY CLOSE TO THE STREET WHILE THE MAILBOX IS ON AN UPWARD SLOPE, ABOUT TWO OR THREE FEET ABOVE STREET LEVEL. THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED SEVERELY DUE TO ITS COLLISION WITH MAIL BOX. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER THE COLLISION, I SAW THAT THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN THE REVERSE POSTION. TWO WEEKS EARLIER THE SAME UNEPECTED GEAR SHIFT MOVEMENT FROM PARK TO REVERSE OCCURRED IN MY GARAGE AND THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE BACKWARD. BEING IN THE VEHICLE I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND REPOSITION THE GEAR SHIFT IN THE PARK. I WAS ALARMED BY THE INCIDENT BUT DISMISSED IT AS AN EXCEPTION.*AK
ON 2/15/02 MY WIFE MICHELLE WITH SON JOSEPH, (8YRS OLD) SEATED IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF A 2000 JEEP, STRUCK THE PASSENGER SIDE OF A 1999 4DR OLDSMOBILE OPERATED BY FRANCES CLARK WHO HAD FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. MICHELLE HIT THE SIDE OF THE CLARK CAR "HEAD-ON" WHILE TRAVELLING 52 MPH ON A DRY NIGHT AT 8PM. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY ON OUR 2000 JEEP. CHRYSLER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THERE IS "...NO MANUFACTURE'S RESPONSIBILITY". THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER!*AK
I WAS BRAKING AT A STOPLIGHT. AND HAD ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHOT FORWARD. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME BUT IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. WHAT STOPPED ME WAS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I REAR-ENDED IT WITH ENOUGH IMPACT TO PUSH THAT CAR INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF IT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER FELT PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. *AK
I PULLED MY JEEP CHEROKEE INTO THE MAIL CENTER IN MY HOMEOWNERS COMPLEX; I PUT THE JEEP IN PARK; OPENED MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR; GOT OUT OF THE CAR; RETREIVED MY MAILBOX KEY FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR(WHERE I STORE IT); TURNED AROUND AND PUT THE KEY INTO THE MAILBOX; OPENED MY MAILBOX AND AS I WAS ABOUT TO TAKE THE MAIL OUT OF THE BOX I HEAR D A NOISE; I TURN AROUND AND MY JEEP IS MOVING BACKWARDS; I INSTINCTIVELY LUNGE AT THE CAR; HIT MY HEAD ON THE OUTER EDGE OF THE OPEN DOOR CAUSING A MAJOR CUT REQUIRING SUTURES; THEN THE OPEN DOOR AND MOVING CAR PIN ME AGAINST A POST; I MANAGE TO PUSH MY WAY FREE CAUSING MORE INJURIES TO MYSELF; SPIN AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE POLE; MANAGE TO GET INTO THEJEEP;---- IT JUMPED OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE; THE OPEN DOOR WAS CRUSHED BACKWARDS BY THE POLE CAUSING THE PROPERTY DAMAGE AND I WAS INJURED IN THE INCIDENT AS WELL. NOW I FIND OUT THAT GRAND CHEROKEES AND LAREDOS HAVE THESE REPORTED INCIDENTS OF JUMPING INTO REVERSE AND I THINK THESE PROBLEM AUTOS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD; THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGIC SCENE BECAUSE THIS MAIL CENTER IS USUALLY BUSY AND IF THERE WAS A CHILD OR SOMEONE BEHIND MY CAR OR ANOTHER AUTO BEHIND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL; FOR ME AS WELL--I'M LUCKY I WASN;T KNOCKED OUT.*AK
SECOND SET OF ROTORS ARE BEING REPLACED AT 6,000 MILES. EXCESSIVE WEAR OF ROTORS CAUSES VEHICLE TO BUCK WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AT HIGH SPEEDS.*AK
STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSATE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK *TT
UNDER DASH AIR CONDITION/HEATER MODULE MELTED WIRES AND THE MODULE IT SELF. REPLACE WITH PARTS IT MELTED SECOND TIME AND DRIVER SIDE HEATER AND AIR CONDTIONER WORKS PASSENGER SIDE AIR CONDITIONER WORKS BUT NOT THE HEATER. REPLACED DAMAGED PARTS THIRD TIME WITH REPAIR KIT STILL DRIVER SIDE HEATER AIR CONDITIONER WORKS AND PASSENGER SIDE ONLY AIR CONDITIONER. I AM AFRAID IT IS A ON GOING PROBLEM AND ONE DAY IT MIGHT COUGHT FIRE. IN PAST SIX YEARS I DID NOT HAD A WORKING AIR/HEATER FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS WHEN UNDER WARANTY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY DID NOT FIX IT SAYIN IT WILL COST ME TOO MUCH MONEY. *JB

WHEN DOORS ARE LOCKED DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTION, PREVENTING OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE FROM EXITING OR ENTERING. DOORS FAIL TO UNLOCK. CONSUMER HAS NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM THE DOOR LOCKS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO UNLOCK DOORS FOLLOWED BY ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER, AND LOCKS ON THE DOORS ARE BEING REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HIT A PATCH OF ICE AND ROLLED OVER CAUSING DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK, CAUSING SOME INJURY TO CONSUMER. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *AK *TT
OUR GRAND CHEROKEE DEVELOPED A SEVERELY PULSATING BRAKE PEDAL AT 7,000 MILES OF NON OFF ROAD USE, CITY DRIVING, THE SELLING DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS. THIS OCCURRED AGAIN ABOUT 15,000 MILES LATER, AGAIN WITH VERY GENTLE VEHICLE USAGE. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY PERIOD AT 2 YEARS, AND BRAKES ARE NOT WARRANTIED. WE MAINTAIN THERE IS A DESIGN DEFFECT IN THIS SYSTEM ALLOWING PREMATURE FRONT ROTOR WARPAGE LEADING TO SEVERE PEDAL AND VEHICLE PULSATION ON BRAKE APPLICATIONS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. WE HAVE THE ASSURANCE OF A MULTITUDE OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS THAT WE ARE NOT ALONE IN OUR PROBLEM WITH THIS BRAKE SYSTEM. WE HAVE SPENT CONSIDERABLE TIME DISCUSSING THIS DESIGN DEFFECT WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER, BUT THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY SHIFTED THEIR OBLIGATION TO POSSIBLE LITIGATION, BUT NOT TO INSITUTE THE REQUIRED RECALL AND COMPONENT CORRECTION. CAN A BRAKE SYSTEM THAT SUDDENLY ALTERS FROM CORRECT FUNCTION, TO ONE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER AND CAUSE THE OPERATORS FOOT TO SHAKE SEVERELY AFTER SUCH AN EXTREMELY SHORT DUTY CYCLE BE DEEMED NORMAL? WE ARE CAREFUL DRIVERS, AND CAN NOW AVOID INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE BY REPAIRING THE PROBLEM, OTHERS MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY. FORGIVE THE LENGTH OF THIS REPLY, THE WILKINSONS. *AK

POWER LOCK MECHANISM ON LEFT FRONT DOOR STOPPED WORKING IN 12/01. HAD REPAIRED ON 12/21/01 AT COST OF $240.56. THE LEFT BACK DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM STOPPED WORKING IN 1/02. HAD REPAIRED IN 3/02 AT COST OF $268. THE REAR HATCHBACK DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM STOPPED WORKING IN 4/02. THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH A GRINDING NOISE THEN THE LOCK FAILS TO ENGAGE AND FAILS TO DISENGAGE.
TAKEN TO DEALER PRIOR TO WARRANTY EXPIRATION, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE HEATER BLEND DOOR COMPLETELY FAILED, CAUSING A LACK OF HEAT/DEFROST - REPAIRED. PROBLEM RETURNED 12/2007 VEHICLE IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN, WILL NEED REPAIRING. *TR
PUCHASED VEHICLE 6/30/2000. ON 11/30/2000 WITH ONLY 8,541 MILES, THE DEALER DID A WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OF FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS, WHICH WAS NECESSARY TO CORRECT HEAVY VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. VEHICLE IS USED 95% IN TOWN. SEVEN MONTH LATER, ON 6/01/2001, SAME PROBLEM. DEALER RESURFACED FRONT AND BACK ROTORS AND CHARGED US AN $80.00 (DEDUCTABLE) FEE, WITH THE BALANCE PAID BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER AS GOOODWILL. SIX MONTHS LATER, 12/14/2001 (15,314 MILES) WE ASKED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE ROTORS SINCE THE LAST FIX, ONLY 6 MONTHS AGO DID NOT LAST. THEY TOLD US WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER $200 TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS. WE WERE TOLD BY "PAT" THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THEY NOW HAD A "PERMANENT" FIX TO THIS WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. WE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO TAKE IT IN AND ON 12/20/2001, WHILE DRIVING ON SNOW PACKED ROADS THE VEHICLE WAS UNUSUALLY DIFFICULT TO STOP. IT FELT LIKE THE WARPED ROTORS IMPACTED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM TO THE POINT OF FOOLING IT SELF INTO RELEASING THE BRAKES AND ALTERNATELY LOCKING THEM UP. I CAN'T GET MORE THEN 7-8 THOUSAND MILE OUT OF A SET OF BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE! MY 3 OTHER VEHICLES HAVE BRAKES THAT LAST OVER 35,000 MILES EACH! I'M UPSET OVER THE COST BUT NOW I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. DIAMLER CHRYSLER DOESN'T WANT TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT.

I UNDERSTAND FROM AN ARTICLE IN THE FLORIDA TIMES UNION TODAY, APRIL 10, 2002, THAT 200 COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED ON BEHALF OF THE 1999 GRAND CHEROKEE'S. THE ISSUE IS THE FAULTY BRAKE ROTORS PLACED ON THESE VEHICLES AND WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THANK GOD, I DID NOT HAVE A SERIOUS CRASH AS I ALWAYS TRAVEL WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN.*AK
