VISIBILITY: DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM:WINDSHIELD:BLOWER HAVING A VISIBILITY PROBLEM WITH THE HEATER/AIRCONDITIONG IN CAR HEATING/AIRCONDITIONING NOT CLEARING WINDSHIELD. *TR __________________
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, PART OF THE RADIATOR FAN FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE REMAINDER OF THE FAN FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. BOTH FAILURES OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK AGO WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POPPING SOUND AND SHE OBSERVED THAT A PIECE OF THE PLASTIC FAN WAS ON THE GROUND. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN IS A PART OF A RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RADIATOR COOLING FAN BLADES BROKE INTO SEVERAL PIECES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. NOT EASILY DETERMINED IF THE RADIATOR WAS DAMAGED. FAN IS INOPERABLE WHICH CAUSES THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT UNLESS VEHICLE IS KEPT IN MOTION. HAVE NOT DONE A REPLACEMENT YET. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO EVEN CONSIDER COVERING THE REPAIR UNLESS I PAY TO HAVE THEIR TECH DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. CHRYSLER WILL NOT COMMIT TO PAY FOR ANY PERCENTAGE OF THE REPAIR UNTIL AFTER I PAY TO HAVE A TECH DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *TR
BLEND DOOR FAILURE ON '02 GRAND CHEROKEE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE SEAT FRAME SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED AND ALLOWED THE SEAT TO SUDDENLY RETRACT BACKWARDS. THE FAILURE INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENTIRE SEAT FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF OVER $400. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE SEATS REPAIRED. SECONDLY, THE POWER WINDOWS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WINDOW REGULATORS. THIRDLY, HE NOTICED THAT FLUID FROM THE HEATER COIL LEAKED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 94,000.
ON JULY 4, 2008, AIRBAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WITH NO COLLISION INVOLVED. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT DAMAGED THE AIRBAG SYSTEM, RIGHT DASHBOARD, WINDSHIELD, STEERING WHEEL, GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR, AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM, CAUSED COMPLAINTS TO INCUR RENTAL VEHICLE EXPENSES, LOSS OF USE AND DEVALUATION OF HIS VEHICLE, INCONVENIENCE, AND CAUSED REDNESS AND IRRITATION TO FACE, NECK, AND CHEST AND AGGRAVATED ASTHMA.*TR

I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. IT HAS 85,000 MILES. IT BEGAN LOSING COOLANT. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS A HEAD GASKET. AFTER TAKING THE ENGINE APART, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A CASTING DEFECT IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A WATER JACKET COVERED BY CASTING MATERIAL AT MANUFACTURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT REAR BRAKE LIGHT WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
COOLING FAN MOTOR BAD IN 2002 JEEP GRAND CHER. ALSO COOLING FAN BLADES ARE CRACKED. CALLED ABOUT A RECALL, BUT THEY SAID JEEP DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE CORRECT VIN # RANGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VIBRATED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AFTER IT HAD BEEN SHUT OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, HE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, LIFTED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED THAT THE FAN WAS DESTROYED. PIECES OF THE FAN WERE LODGED INTO THE RADIATOR. AAA TOWED THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE. ON JUNE 23, 2008, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE FAN, BUT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RADIATOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
DRIVING ALONG AND LOW COOLANT LIGHT WENT ON, THEN PULLED OVER AND REVEALED NO COOLANT WHATSOEVER. REPLACED THE COOLANT EVERY FEW DAYS THEN FINALLY AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS TOOK IT TO THE RADIATOR SHOP AND HAD TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL EXTEND TO THE FLOOR AS IF THERE WERE PRESSURE LOSS. THE CONTACT MUST LITERALLY STAND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. TWO YEARS AGO MY PASSENGER SIDE HEAT STOP WORKING. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVER BY ANY WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST $1500.00 TO REPAIR. SO THE PUT TAPE OVER THOSE VENTS AND ONLY HAD THE DRIVER SIDE WORKING. LAST MAY MY DRIVER SIDE STOP BLOWING HOT AIR ALSO. TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER, GUESS WHAT IT WILL COST $1200.00. I'M TRIED OF THIS, JEEP SHOULD HAVE A RECALL! *TR
IN MARCH, 2005, WITH 59,000 MILES, MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND, WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN AUGUST 2002, NEEDED A NEW REAR DIFFERENTIAL. A REPLACEMENT WAS ALSO NEEDED AT 80,000 (JULY 2006), 86,000 (MARCH 2007), AND 98,000 (APRIL 2008). AS OF THIS WRITING, THE DEALER HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS. IN REPLACING FIRST THE BEARINGS, THEN THE GEARS, AND THEN THE "ENTIRE REAR END", THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT CHRYSLER HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. NO ONE AT THE 800 NUMBERS CAN OFFER ANY SOLUTIONS. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COVERED, MINUS MY $100 DEDUCTIBLE. BUT, I DON'T THINK THE NUMBER OF REPAIRS IS QUESTIONABLE. I'VE FOUND A NUMBER OF SITES WITH OTHER INDIVIDUALS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS PARTICULAR BODY STYLE/MODEL. PERHAPS THERE IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM.. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INDEPENDENT OWNER WHO SOLD THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT HAD BRAND NEW TIRES PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES, THE GOODYEAR TIRES BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE TREAD SEPARATION. SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVING PROPERLY AT SPEEDS 50 MPH AND LESS. THE TIRES WERE ALSO SEPARATING FROM THE HUBCAPS OR RIMS AND THEN FLATTENED. THE TIRE WAS REPAIRED. LATER, THE SECOND TIRE FLATTENED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH THE SPARE TIRE THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. THREE MONTHS LATER, SHE AWAKENED TO FIND THAT THE TIRE WAS ENTIRELY FLAT. SHE PLACED AIR IN THE TIRE, BUT IT REMAINED SOFT. WHILE ROLLING UP DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW, HEARD A LOUD NOISE WITHIN CAR DOOR. WINDOW THEN FELL INTO DOOR AND WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. INFORMED BY DEALER THAT THE REGULATOR WAS BROKEN. SERVICE DEPT STATED THAT THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY BECAUSE THE PART IS MADE OF PLASTIC. WAS CHARGED $295 FOR REPLACEMENT PART. EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY BROTHER, WHO ALSO OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, TWO MONTHS AGO. *TR

THE CONTACT LANDED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND HER HEAD WENT THROUGH THE MOON ROOF. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LAREDO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE DIM. SHE PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE HEADLIGHTS AND NOTICED A FILM ON THE LIGHT COVERS DUE TO CONDENSATION. SHE CALLED TWO DEALERS TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. ONE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE DEFECT; HOWEVER, THEY BOTH STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THEY BOTH ADVISED HER TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING BECAUSE NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. MY 2002 CHRYSLER JEEP 4X4 GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY TOOK OFF WITH NO BRAKES. THE ACCELERATOR SEEMED TO BE STUCK AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT SLOW THE CAR DOWN. I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING LOT AT WORK. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS STILL WOULD NOT SLOW THE CAR DOWN. I FINALLY MOVED THE GEAR INTO PARK AND THAT SEEMED TO WORK. AFTER TALKING TO PEOPLE AT WORK, THIS IS CONSIDERED A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER JEEP OR CHRYSLER CAR AGAIN. I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED AND IT IS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL. I'VE NOTICED A FUNNY NOISE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE A TWISTING OR A CLAPPING NOISE. JUST RECENTLY I NEEDED TO TURN ON MY HEATER BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY COLD OUT AND FOR SOME REASON ALTHOUGH THE TEMP WAS SET ALL THE WAY TOO HIGH IT WAS STILL BLOWING COLD AIR FROM THE DRIVER SIDE. HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER SIDE STILL WORKED FINE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED AND I KNOW IT WILL COST WAY MORE THAN I CAN EVER AFFORD FOR THIS REPAIR. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE PROBLEM IS IMMINENT TO JEEP OWNERS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE COMPANY FEELS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE BUT A LUXURY. HOWEVER IT IS FOR MOST OF US THAT OWN A SUV IT IS BECAUSE WE NEED TO TRANSPORT OUR FAMILIES COMFORTABLY. FOR THAT IS WHAT THEY ADVERTISE. I HAVE A NEW BORN CHILD AND I THINK IT IS RIDICULES I CAN NOT TRANSPORT HER IN MY JEEP BECAUSE IT IS TO COLD FOR HER AND SHE WOULD BE AT RISK OF GETTING PNEUMONIA, BECAUSE THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION HAS FAILED TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. PLEASE HELP US IN MAKING THE COMPANY FIX THEIR INADEQUATE CLIMATE CONTROL PROBLEM AND LIVE UP TO THEIR EXPECTATIONS. *TR

THERE WAS ALSO A MINOR PEDAL PULSATION (BRAKE ROUGHNESS) UNDER LIGHT TO MODERATE PEDAL APPLICATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE ROTORS AND PADS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,700.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE STARTER WAS OUT. NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STARTER. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY REPAIRS ON THIS VEHICLE WITH ONLY 57,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
ON 2/28/08 I WAS AT THE BANK ABOUT 1/4 OF A MILE FROM HOME AND WAS ON MY WAY HOME THERE I HEARD ALOUD BANG UNDER MY JEEP. WHEN I GOT HOME THERE WAS FLUID COMING OUT FROM THE RADIATOR AREA. MY FIANCEE LOOKED AT IT AND THE HOUSING AROUND THE RADIATOR IS ALL BROKE, THERE IS PIECES OF PLASTIC STUCK IN THE RADIATOR AND THE FAN IS BROKEN AND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR THERE IS A PUNCTURED HOLE IN IT. *TR
POWER STEERING PUMP HAS FAILED FOR THE 4TH TIME IN LAST YEAR. HAVE NOW LEARNED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY CHRYSLER AND IS DUE TO POOR DESIGN THAT HAS THE POWER STEERING PUMP DRIVING AN AUXILIARY COOLING FAN. RESULTS IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND EXTREMELY REDUCED DRIVABLE. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V046000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING HOME LAST YEAR I ROLLED MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW UP AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. I AT FIRST THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE HAD HIT MY VEHICLE WITH A LARGE ROCK BUT THEN THE WINDOW DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DOOR. WHEN I GOT HOME, I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WINDOW REGULATORS FAILING IN CHRYSLER GRAND CHEROKEES AND THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR. I ALSO FOUND THAT THESE PROBLEMS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THEY'D JUST USED A 25 CENT PIECE OF METAL INSTEAD OF THE PLASTIC PIECE THEY USED. BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE $400 + IT WOULD COST TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED, I FOUND THE INSTRUCTIONS ONLINE AND BOUGHT THE REPLACEMENT REGULATOR AND REPLACED IT MYSELF. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY WHERE I COULD NOT STOP. I SMASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND SO THAT I DID NOT HIT HIM AGAIN, I TURNED RIGHT AT THIS FOUR WAY INTERSECTION AND THERE WERE TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL SO HARD THAT I WAS NOW ON 2 WHEELS TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ANY OF THE CARS AS WELL. I GRAZED ONE CAR, BUT TORE THE FRONT END OF A HONDA VAN OFF BEFORE MY JEEP CAME TO A HALT ACROSS THE STREET. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN 3-5 SECONDS. BY THE WILL OF GOD I DID NOT KILL ANYONE OR SERIOUSLY HURT ANYONE, AS I WAS VERY LUCKY. MOST PEOPLE, 10 IN ALL IN THE FOUR VEHICLES, I AM SURE HAVE ACHES AND PAINS LIKE I DO TODAY. DRIVER SIDE TEMP ADJUSTMENTS WORK PROPERLY, BUT PASSENGER SIDE AND WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER CONTROLS DO NOT PROVIDE ANY HEAT. THE MECHANIC WHO FIXED THE CAR SAID THAT THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE BURN MARKS ON THE LEATHER UNDERSIDE OF THE SEAT CUSHION. THE REPLACEMENT UNIT BURNT AGAIN IN 2008. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED THE DEFROST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO BECOME INOPERABLE AND WOULD DECREASE VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE AT 0600 HRS ON 03 JAN 2008 WITH A BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURE (AROUND 8 DEGREES F) AND HAD SNOW FLURRIED THE NIGHT BEFORE (NO MORE THAN AN INCH ACCUMULATED). AN 18-WHEELER DRIVING CENTER LANE OF A 3-LANE WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED (65 MPH LIMIT, TRUCK DRIVER ~40 MPH). I WAS ALSO IN THIS LANE CRUISING AT 65 MPH AND ALL THOUGH IT VISIBILITY WAS ONLY LIMITED DUE TO DARKNESS (NO SNOW, ETC.), I DID NO NOTICE, NOR DID MY PASSENGER, THE SEMI IN FRONT OF US. DEPTH PERCEPTION CAME IN REALIZATION ~100 FEET AWAY FROM THE REAR-END OF THE SEMI. AT THAT MOMENT I MANEUVERED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND ATTEMPTED TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE FISHTAILING VEHICLE. OVER-CORRECTING CAUSED THE VEHICLE (AFTER FISHTAILING BACK AND FOURTH 5 TIMES) TO STRIKE THE LEFT REAR TIRE OF THE SEMI-TRUCK. ON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NO DEPLOY.
