TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED A DISLOCATED FINGER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
SUBMISSION FROM CONSTITUENT RE RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOR HIS JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AROUND TWO (2) YEARS AGO AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *SMD WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVE AT THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE, DESPITE IT BEING CONFIRMED ON THE TELEPHONE WEEKS PRIOR. THE RECALL WAS FOR THE AIR BAG LIGHT. THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ALWAYS ON, AN HE FEARED IT WOULD DEPLOY AT ANY TIME.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON , TOOK VEHICLE TO JEEP DEALER TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL MODULE AS PER NHTSA ID # 12V527000 HOWEVER WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER AS OF DATE HAS A NO FIX SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM TO JUST KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND , SO MY COLLEGE AGE SON IS NOW DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH FAULTY AIRBAGS. I ASKED THEM WHY THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE FAULTY MODULE WITH A NEW ONE UNDER THIS RECALL ( 12V527000 ) AND WAS TOLD NO UNLESS I PAID FOR IT AND THAT CHRYSLER WOULD NOT PAY FOR IT AS REPLACEMENT IS NOT WHAT IS STIPULATED IN THE RECALL FOR WHICH THEY HAVE NO FIX . *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE NOTICE STATES THAT I WOULD GET A FOLLOWUP RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL WHEN I'D BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT, BUT FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS I HAVEN'T RECEIVED NOTHING. I HAVE ALSO CALLED CHRYSLER MULTIPLE TIMES, AND THEY KEEP SAYING THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE PARTS YET. PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL AT [XXX]TO LET ME KNOW WHAT THE STATUS IS, AS THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. SEE ATTACHED DIAGRAM. I WAS DRIVER OF CAR STOPPED AT RED LIGHT . JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (VIN # [XXX]) ENGINE REVVED AT HIGH THROTTLE, WHILE BTSI IN PARK. THE DRIVER MAY BE HARD OF HEARING, MAY HAVE BEEN DISTRACTED TO HEAR THE NOISE OR KNOW COMES FROM HER CAR, MAY HAVE HAD WINDOWS SHUT AND BEEN INSULATED FROM THE SOUND, BUT SHE CHANGED GEAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE AS THE TIRES WERE SPINNING AS OBSERVED BY WITNESSES WHO SAW OR HEARD THOSE TIRES SPINNING WHILE THE CAR WAS IN STATIONARY POSITION. JEEP SPEED FORWARD ABOUT 70 FEET TO REAR-IMPACT MY CAR AND CRUSH THE REAR OF CAR INWARD. IT DISTORTED FRAME FROM REAR TO FRONT OR CAR, AND REAR IMPACT CAUSED DAMAGE TO FRONT OF CAR. PRIOR TO IMPACT, MY FOOT DEPRESSED HARD ON BRAKE BECAUSE I BRACED OR STIFFENED HARD FOR IMPACT, WHEN I HEARD THE SQUEAL OF TIRES OF STATIONARY CAR NEARBY, AND PEOPLE LEAVING A CARNIVAL WERE NEARBY. AFTER JEEP CRUSHED MY CAR INWARD, IT ACCELERATED AGAIN AGAINST MY CAR AND MY EFFORTS KEEP THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, AND IT PROPELLED MY CAR FORWARD, AND THEN CONTINUED ON ITS PATH OF DESTRUCTION. IT WRECKED MY CAR, ITSELF, ANOTHER CAR, AND COLLIDED WITH A ANOTHER TWO CARS, IT HIT PEDESTRIANS, CAUSED FATALITY, CAUSED INJURIES, KNOCKED DOWN PARKING METERS, SKIDDED DOZENS OF FEET, BROKE OFF ITS FRONT TIRES IN CHUNKS, SKIDDED ITS METAL RIM BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE, SKIDDED PIECES OF RUBBER OF TIRE, AND FINALLY GOT STUCK AFTER LAST IMPACT, WHILE ITS ENGINE REVVED AND ITS TIRES SPUN, CAUSING YAW SCRAPING OF TIRES ON SIDEWALK. _POLICE DEPT FOUND THE BTSI DEFECTIVE, AND THE SKID MARKS SHOW THAT THE BRAKES WERE INEFFECTIVE OR INOPERABLE AS JEEP'S ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. JEEP DRIVER RAN FROM IT AFTER IT GOT STUCK BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT IT WOULD EXPLODE. THE WHEELS STOPPED SPINNING WHEN THE MOTOR GOT SHUT. CHRYSLER ISSUED A RECALL ON THE AIR BAG SYSTEM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (SAFETY RECALL M35/NHTSA 12V-527 IN NOV OF 2012. OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL IN JAN OF 2013. AS OF TODAY NOV 20, 2013, ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER, CHRYSLER STILL HAS NOT MADE PARTS AVAILABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A DEFECT THAT ACCORDING TO THE RECALL COULD CAUSE "INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS AND MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A VEHICLE CRASH." IN ADDITION IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR MY AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR SYSTEM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL (ORC) MODULE. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE ORC MODULE "HAS A SMALL CHANCE OF EXPERIENCING AN ELECTRICAL OVERSTRESS CONDITION. SHOULD THIS OVERSTRESS CONDITION OCCUR, IT COULD DAMAGE ONE OF THE ORC'S COMPUTER CHIPS. A DAMAGED CHIP COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE..." I HAD TO PAY OUT-OF-POCKET $620.89 FOR THE REPAIR, WHICH CHRYSLER AGAIN REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME AFTER MY FOLLOW UP ATTEMPTS TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT. *TR

I HAVE A RECALL ON MY CAR I CALLED THE CAR MAKER THE MANUFACTURER TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE THIS IS 8 MONTH AGO NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS LIT I CALLED THEM BECAUSE THE RECALL STATE THIS VEHICLES HAS A CHANCE OF EXPERIENCING AN ELECTRICAL OVERSTRESS CONDITION! IT CAN DAMAGE ONE OF THE ORC'S COMPUTER CHIPS THIS CAN CAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO LIGHT UP AND AIR BAG TO INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF FRONT AIRBAGS INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY OR OF VEHICLE CRASH. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE DOWN TO THE DEALER WITH THE RECALL THAT WAY THEY CAN FIX IT. THE PART AND LABOR IS FREE OF CHARGE I CALLED THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT UP FRONT THEN REIMBURSE THE BILL TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR THEM TO PAY WHEN THEY CAN. I DO NOT HAVE THOUSAND OF DOLLARS THAT IT WILL COST TO FIX THE UP FRONT FOR THIS RECALL CAN SOME ONE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS REAR ENDED IN MY '02 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. MY VEHICLE DOES HAVE A MANUFACTURED INSTALLED TRAILER HITCH. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE GAS TANK WAS STILL HIT BY THE VEHICLE. THE HITCH DID NOTHING TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM GETTING TO THE TANK. THERE ARE VISIBLE GRAZE MARKS WHERE THE VEHICLE HIT THE HITCH AND PROCEEDED TO THE GAS TANK. STILL NOT FEELING SAFE FROM THE CHRYSLER RECALL THAT THE "HITCH" WILL PREVENT A FIRE HAZARD IF INVOLVED IN A REAR END ACCIDENT. CHRYSLER WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE SINCE IT HAS A HITCH. DRIVING MY CHILDREN HOME FROM NEW YORK ON THE 6TH OF JULY 2013, SOME WHERE ON THE TURNPIKE MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER COMPLAINED ABOUT THE HEATED SEAT BEING TO HOT. I TOLD HER THAT SHE SHOULD TURN IT OFF THEN, TO WITCH SHE REPLIED I ALREADY DID DAD BUT ITS STILL HOT. SHE DROVE THE REST OF THE TRIP WITH THE SEAT OFF. DEALER CONTINUES TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL AND I SHOULD SIMPLY BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR. MEANWHILE, AFTER MONTHLY CALLS, THE DEALER CONTINUES NOT TO HAVE THE REQUIRED PART FOR REPAIR AND OFFERS NO ASSURANCE OF WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. 6 MONTHS??? FOR AN 11 YEAR OLD CAR. THIS SEEMS AN INTENTIONAL DELAY AND BLATANT DISREGARD FOR THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NTMVSA. THE 1999-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SEAT TRACK HAS A WEAK POINT ON THE REAR SCISSOR ASSEMBLY. WHEN YOU START TO NOTICE A WOBBLE OR CLICK IT MEANS ONE OF THE TINY CONNECTING PIECES HAS BROKEN. EVENTUALLY THE OTHER SIDE WILL ALSO BREAK ALLOWING YOU TO LIFT THE ENTIRE SEAT UP. *TR
THIS JEEP HAD THE 4.7L V8 ENGINE. JEEP WAS RUNNING FINE, NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH LEAKING FLUIDS, ETC.OR ANY ENGINE ISSUES AT ALL. WENT TO A FRIENDS HOUSE FOR A COUPLE HOURS AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE, THE VEHICLE STARTED VERY ROUGH AND HAD NO POWER - HITTING THE BRAKE TO CHANGE GEARS WOULD STALL THE ENGINE. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SHOWED NO COMPRESSION IN THE FIRST CYLINDER. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY TO HAVE MY ENGINE TORN APART (KEEP IN MIND I ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND STILL OWED OVER $1000 ON SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT DRIVEABLE), BUT FROM THE SYMPTOMS IT SEEMS THIS WAS CAUSED BY A DROPPED VALVE SEAT. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE IN THIS ENGINE (IN JEEPS AND OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES) AND AM SURPRISED THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. I AM UNSURE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. *TR
