TAKATA RECALL- I AM UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. THERE'S A SMALL NYLON LINKAGE CONNECTING THE SHIFT LEVER TO THE TRANSMISSION THAT HAS COMPLETELY CRUMBLED. I BELIEVE IT'S ITEM# 52109624AD. MY CAR WAS PLACED IN PARK AND TURNED OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS ONCE IT WAS RESTARTED WITHOUT ANY WARNING.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS WITH THE CONTACT STANDING OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON ITS OWN AND INJURED THE CONTACT, BUT NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
I WAS DRIVING FROM MY PLACE OF WORK TO MY OTHER JOB ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY AND LOST ALL DRIVE POWER BUT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IN 2ND GEAR WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURED DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION CASING THAT IT CRACKS DO TO THE METAL THAT IT IS MADE WITH AND THERE IS NO WAY FOR PRESSURE TO SUSTAIN THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE

I STARTED MY CAR AND PUT IT IN R CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED BACKWARDS I PUT MY FEET ON THE BRAKE AND CAR CONTINUED BACK I COULD NOT SHUT ENGINE OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN CAR SURGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH FORCE BEFORE THERE WAS ANY RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,632.

THIS JEEP HAS FAILED ME IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. ITS UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE. AT 68K THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A DANGEROUS HIGHWAY ALMOST WRECKED, JEEP SAID SORRY WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 65K. ALL 4 WINDOWS HAVE FELL OUT WITH A BANG, MULTIPLE SENSORS HAVE GONE OUT, RELAY SENSOR, ALL SHOCKS THAT HOLD UP HOOD AND LIFT GATES HAVE FAILED. RADIATOR SPRUNG A LEAK ON MONDAY AND PARKING BRAKE FAILED/BROKE/TOOK IT IN FOR THE AIRBAG CHECK ON MAY 16 TWO MONTHS AGO AND ITS IS ONE OF THE BAD ONES ..WAS TOLD PARTS WERE ORDERED. NOW THE LIGHT IS ON AND WONT GO OFF..WAS TOLD I HAVE NO AIRBAG AT ALL THAT WILL DEPLOY... VERY UNSAFE AND UNFAIR. NOW ITS INSPECTION TIME WITH THIS MESS AND NO FIX FROM JEEP. QUADRO TRAC TRANSMISSIONS NO LONGER WORKS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IT JUST STOPPED WORKING WITH NO WARNING OR NOTICEABLE EQUIPMENT FAILURE. *TR

MY 2002 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS 64,000 MILES ON IT. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. TOOK IT TO JEEP DEALERSHIP. COMPUTER HOOK UP INDICATED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW "TORQUE CONVERTER." HAD THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. WHEN REPLACING THE "TORQUE CONVERTER", I WAS TOLD THE TRANS. PLATE WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED PLATE. COMPUTER NOW SAYS THE 02 SENSOR IS BAD. REPLACED 02 SENSOR. WHILE GETTING TO THE 02 SENSOR, WAS TOLD A BOLT WAS RUSTED TO TRANS. COOLANT LINE AND BROKE A HOLE IN IT. HAD THE COOLANT LINE REPLACED. NOW THE JEEP STALLS! HAD TO DRIVE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH ONE FOOT ON THE GAS, ONE ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP JEEP RUNNING AND NOT TO CAUSE AND ACCIDENT! NOW I'M TOLD MY SPARK PLUGS NEED REPLACING AND FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED. REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, FUEL SYSTEM WAS CLEANED AND REPLACED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR!!! I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN TRAVELING ABOUT 30MPH IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I APPLIED THE BRAKE BUT COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THE HARDER I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR, THE ENGINE RAN HARDER. IT WAS LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AND TRYING TO MAINTAIN THE 30MPH SPEED. IN MARCH, 2005, WITH 59,000 MILES, MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND, WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN AUGUST 2002, NEEDED A NEW REAR DIFFERENTIAL. A REPLACEMENT WAS ALSO NEEDED AT 80,000 (JULY 2006), 86,000 (MARCH 2007), AND 98,000 (APRIL 2008). AS OF THIS WRITING, THE DEALER HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS. IN REPLACING FIRST THE BEARINGS, THEN THE GEARS, AND THEN THE "ENTIRE REAR END", THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT CHRYSLER HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. NO ONE AT THE 800 NUMBERS CAN OFFER ANY SOLUTIONS. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COVERED, MINUS MY $100 DEDUCTIBLE. BUT, I DON'T THINK THE NUMBER OF REPAIRS IS QUESTIONABLE. I'VE FOUND A NUMBER OF SITES WITH OTHER INDIVIDUALS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS PARTICULAR BODY STYLE/MODEL. PERHAPS THERE IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM.. *TR
