MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS NOW STARTED SPORADIC HEADLIGHT SERVICE. FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS I HAVE NOTICED THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS DIMMING FOR NO APPARENT REASON BUT NOW THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ALSO CUTTING IN AND OUT. IT SEEMS THERE IS NO REAL SOLUTION FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS SINCE IT IS VERY UNNERVING TO NOT HAVE HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EIGHT WEEKS LATER, HE RECEIVED A SECOND NOTIFICATION BUT THE PARTS WERE STILL UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE FELT THAT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDED TO BE CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. DASH WARNING LIGHTS ALL COME ON. VEHICLE SPUTTERS AND LOOSES POWER. DID NOT STALL BUT SEEMED LIKE IT ALMOST DID. THEN ALL POWER CAME BACK AND LIGHTS GO OFF. ALMOST SEEMS LIKE THE MAIN COMPUTER RESETS. HAS DONE IT 6 TIMES IN LAST 3 MONTHS. MECHANIC CHECKED IT AND SAID THERE WERE NO CODES AND COULD NO DUPLICATE WHILE AT THE SHOP. FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE SINCE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENS UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS. *TR

INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKED AND STARTING TO BREAK. CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY INDICATED THAT IT IS ACKNOWLEDGED AS A WEAK COMPONENT AND THAT IN SOME INSTANCES HAS BEEN REPLACED. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF MY CAR, THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE IT AS A WARRANTY ITEM. I EMPHASIZED ON THE SAFETY ASPECT OF PASSENGERS BEING TRAPPED INSIDE MY CAR BUT THEY JUST INDICATED THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. *TR

PASSENGER SEATBELT. HAVE TO PRESS RED BUTTON TO ENGAGE SEATBELT. EVEN WHEN LOCKED, THE SEATBELT ALERT CHIMES AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINS RED. *TR
ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WILL INTERMITTENTLY COME ON AND OFF. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN I AM DRIVING, SITTING STILL, CAR COLD OR HOT. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON TO IT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE FAN FOR HEAT/AC ALSO GOES OUT. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG THAT THEY CAN FIND. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: THIS HAS BEEN MY SONS CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IN 2008. [XXX] WHO WAS AT COLLEGE IN GREENSBORO, NC. [XXX] PHONED ME ONE EVENING, APRIL 17, 2013 AND STATED THAT HIS JEEP WOULD NOT GO OUT OF 2ND GEAR AND ALL LIGHTS CAME ON AND NAMED THE ENGINE LIGHT?, ?BAS?, TRACTION CONTROL ETC. HE ALSO STATED THAT ?IT JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING AND STOPPING?. HE PARKED THE CAR AND MY HUSBAND/[XXX] CALLED COTTMAN TRANSMISSION IN GREENSBORO THE MORNING OF APRIL 18TH. WE WERE TOLD THAT NOTHING SHOWED ON THE DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY NEEDED TO TAKE OUT THE TRANSMISSION TO ASSESS. THE COST WOULD BE $450. AFTER TAKING OUT THE TRANSMISSION, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT NEEDED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THEY PROCEEDED WITH THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND MY SON PICKED UP THE JEEP ON APRIL 24TH. I PAID $2,185.77. AS COTTMAN STATED THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE? WAS THE ORIGINAL CAUSE OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR ANY PART ON THIS JEEP, POSSIBLY BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM CLOSED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL DRY CONDITIONS THIS PAST EVENING UNEXPECTEDLY ALL MY INTERIOR GAUGES AND DASH ELECTRONICS STARTED FLICKERING ON AND OFF TO INCLUDE THE RADIO, HAZARD LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING INSIDE. AT THE SAME TIME I REALIZED I WAS ALSO LOOSING MY EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS AND ALSO BRAKE CONTROL BECAUSE MY CAR WAS ESSENTIALLY RUNNING BUT WITH NO ELECTRONICS. IT STARTED MAKING A WEIRD GRINDING PULSATING NOISE THAT WOULD ACCOMPANY THE FLICKERING LIGHTS. THIS FORCED ME TO EXIT THE ROAD AT A GAS STATION. IT THEN STOPPED AND I BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN ONLY TO HAVE IT RESUME SHORTLY. THANKFULLY I WAS CLOSE TO MY DESTINATION AND WAS ABLE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR THE NIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY IN THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS DURING THE DAY BUT THIS IS MY FIRST NIGHT EXPERIENCE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A GLITCH BUT IT IS DEFINITELY GETTING WORSE AND HAS BECOME REGULAR. THE NEXT MORNING I WAS ABLE START AND DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK AND IT REPEATED THIS BEHAVIOR A COUPLE MORE TIMES. AT DAYS END I WENT TO LEAVE AND NOW MY JEEP WON'T START AND HASN'T FOR TWO DAYS. ALL THE ELECTRONICS COME ON BUT WHEN I TURN THE KEY IT JUST CLICKS. I ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST BUT WHEN MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR

FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW & WITHOUT WARNING: THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS, TACHOMETERS, HEATER, AND HEADLIGHTS FLICKER ON/OFF, THEN GO COMPLETELY OFF. THEN IF APPLYING THE BRAKES, THERE IS A FEROCIOUS GRINDING NOISE AND LOSS OF STEERING. ENGINE SEEMS TO SLOW DOWN OR NOT WANT TO SHIFT TO NEXT GEAR WHILE DRIVING. ALL THIS HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS FLICKERING. SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM BUT GETTING WORSE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON FOR A DAY THEN DISAPPEARS. I HAVE VIDEO RECORDING OF THESE INCIDENTS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED BUT "NOTHING REPORTS" SO I AM TOLD IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN THE CARS IGNITION JUST QUIT CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES STEERING HAVE CONTACTED DEALER BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE AS YET. CAR IS DEFINETLEY UNSAFE!! *TR
WE WERE DRIVING HOME LAST NIGHT ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY 50 EAST OF CARSON CITY NEVADA AND THE LIGHTS WENT BRIGHT THEN OUT THEN FLICKERED ON AND OFF THEN IT WAS OKAY. A SHORT TIME LATER ON THE SAME HIGHWAY STILL A STRAIGHT SECTION IT DID THE SAME THING, I PULLED OVER, LIGHTS WENT TO NORMAL. THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AT THE TIME THANK GOD. THIS WAS ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. THE BATTERY SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL CRACKED WHERE IT IS ATTACHED TO THE DOOR AND THE HANDLE FALLS OFF, LEAVING THE DRIVER UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THIS OCCURS WITH NORMAL USE, NO ABNORMAL USE OR ABUSE. *TR

VEHICLE STALLS WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS ENGINE SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY, DEALERSHIPS HAVE MO FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER COMPLETELY NORMAL CONDITIONS, SEVERAL SEVERE PROBLEMS OCCURRED SIMULTANEOUSLY; INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF, VEHICLE STARTED SPUTTERING AND BECAME UNRESPONSIVE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, GRINDING SOUND FROM LEFT FRONT WHEEL ACCOMPANIED THE OTHER PROBLEMS FURTHER ADDING TO THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWING DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT UP WHEN FLASHING STOPPED, BUT THEN A COUPLE OF MINUTES LATER WHILE I WAS TRYING TO LIMP INTO A PARKING LOT TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD THE DASH LIGHTS STARTED WILDLY FLASHING ON AND OFF AGAIN AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO BE VIRTUALLY UNRESPONSIVE WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT, THE ESP/BAS LIGHTS REMAINED ON FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT EVENTUALLY WENT OUT, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN ON 3/29/2013 WHILE I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. IT WAS SUDDEN, UNEXPECTED AND SCARY. WITH THE RIGHT SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES, IT COULD BE DEVASTATING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONCE I STARTED DOING A BIT OF ONLINE RESEARCH, I FOUND MANY JEEP FORUMS PACKED FULL OF OWNERS WITH THE IDENTICAL MODEL AND YEAR OF MY GRAND CHEROKEE THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME GRAVE ISSUES. IT IS CLEARLY VERY WIDESPREAD FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, AND THEN I FOUND THE ARFC PAGE AND I WAS ASTOUNDED AT THE NUMBERS OF OWNERS OF MY YEAR AND MODEL WHO HAVE ALSO HAD HAIR RAISING INCIDENTS WHO HAVE DESCRIBED THE EXACT SET OF PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD. CHRYSLER CANNOT IGNORE THE MASSIVE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE REPORTING THE SAME DEFECT ISSUES. IT IS WELL BEYOND THE REALMS OF COINCIDENCE, AND IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO IGNORE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A NATIONAL FACTORY RECALL ASAP BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF..I WAS DRIVING AROUND 60 MPH THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND LOST POWER...I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT I WAS IN THREE LANES WIDE OF TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD I NOT BEEN IN THE LANE CLOSED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I COULD HAVE BEEN BADLY INJURED. WITHIN THE TIME FRAME OF THREE WEEKS IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES...ALL WHEN I WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS EXCEPT ONCE THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN AND POWERED DOWN WHEN I WAS AT A STOP SIGN IN TOWN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COMES AND GOES SO FAST BY THE TIME I CAN GET TO A REPAIR SHOP AND HAVE IT SCANNED ITS USUALLY OFF. I WAS ABLE TO SCAN IT ONCE AND IT READ A CODE FOR "TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE"...THE CAR RUNS GREAT BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT JUST POWERS DOWN. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET INJURED FROM THIS FAILURE BEFORE SOMEONE FIXES IT! THIS IS ABSURD! *TR

2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTDED HEMI 5.7L LOADED SAFETY PROBLEM - EACH DOOR HANDLE (4). 1. DRIVER DOOR HAS A HAIRLINE CRACK IN THE DOOR HANDLE AREA. 2. REAR DRIVER DOOR LARGE HOLE AND WEAK HANDLE. 3. PASSENGER DOOR HAS LARGE HOLE AND CRACK. 4. REAR PASSENGER HANDLE IS A TOTAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE HANDLE IS BROKEN OFF FROM PANEL WITH A HUGE HOLE (INOPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE). CAN ONLY OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS, BOTH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND THEN GO OFF. THERE IS NO WARNING BEFORE IT HAPPENS. MANY TIMES YOU CAN TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE. BUT LATELY, THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A JEEP DEALER TO FIX BUT SINCE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AS IT HAS HAPPENED AT NIGHT ON A ROAD WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. IT ALSO MAKES THE CAR UNABLE TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS..... AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
PULLING AWAY FROM STOP SIGN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER (STALLED OUT). THE LIGHTS FOR PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, AND DRIVE ALL CAME ON AT ONE TIME. THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASHLIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER, I WOULD TURN OFF THE LIGHTS AND THE BACK ON BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD SOON REOCCUR. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM IN A WEBSITE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. HE FOUND THAT 60% OF THE TIME IT WAS THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WHICH WAS THE PROBLEM. WE REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND ARM ASSEMBLY TO THIS DAY SOME 5 MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED.THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO GET WORSE OVER TIME WITHOUT THE REPAIR. *TR
