MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CONTINUALLY HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENTIRE CONTROL PANEL SHUTTING DOWN, GAUGES GOING TO ZERO, A/C STOPPING, AND HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF WHEN THEY ARE ON. RECENTLY THE VEHICLE STABILIZATION LIGHTS CAME ON AND A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE MADE. THIS HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED 30 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN ABOUT A 5-10 SECOND TIME SPAN. THIS PAST WEEK IT STAYED THAT WAY FOR AROUND 15 MINUTES. AS SOUNDS TYPICAL, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS NOTHING IS SHOWING UP. I'VE HAD IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THIS PAGE IS LITERALLY COVERED UP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE ON THIS ONE SITE (MANY OTHERS CONTAIN THIS SAME COMPLAINT) TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? DO I JUST HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP FOREVER AND SPEND MONEY ONLY TO NEVER GET ANYONE TO FIX IT, OR DO I WAIT UNTIL I HAVE A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT? I DON'T REALLY HAVE THE MONEY TO SCRAP AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND START OVER WITH NOTHING. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? *TR
DOOR HANDLES OPENING AND CLOSING DURING NORMAL USE ON ALL FOUR DOORS AT APPROXIMATELY 50000 MILES CAUSED INTERIOR DOOR PANEL TO CRACK. THIS CAUSES DOOR HANDLE TO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF SOMEONE NEEDS TO EXIT VEHICLE QUICKLY SUCH AS DURING AN ACCIDENT. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER WHO INSISTS IT IS A COSMETIC ISSUE, WHICH IT CERTAINLY IS NOT. ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACE ON EACH DOOR AT COST OF $600 EACH TO FIX THIS AND THIS HAS NOT BEEN DONE AS OF YET. *TR
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEADLIGHT WILL FLICKER ON AND OFF. THIS ALSO INCLUDES THE DASH LIGHTS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, AND HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL. MANY OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE CONTACTED JEEP, WHICH BASICALLY IGNORED THEIR COMPLAINTS. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE DEALERSHIPS AND COMPANY ARE REFUSING TO DEAL WITH IT CORRECTLY. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER AND TRANSMISSIONS SEEMS TO DISENGAGE AND ONLY COASTS. CAR ACTS LIKE IF I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BUT GEAR SELECTED IS STILL DRIVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND ENGINE RESPONDS TO ACCELERATION BUT NO MOVEMENT IS GIVEN BY TRANSMISSION. RPM GAUGE GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO IDLE. HAD TO PULL OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PLACE IN PARK, SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE THEN CONTINUE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING SITUATION, ALL POWER IS LOST AND NO CONTROL OF ACCELERATION IS GIVEN. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME IN A YEAR TIME SPAN, THIS HAS HAPPENED. STARTED AT ABOUT 50000 MILES. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED REAR END COLLISIONS AS WELL, PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT OTHER LESS SKILLED DRIVERS DO ESPECIALLY CARRYING CHILDREN OR PETS VERY DANGEROUS, NEEDS A RECALL OR SB.
ALL THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES ARE STARTING TO BREAK OFF AT THE PANEL AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE IN THE CASE OD AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AT SPEED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. SHIFT LEVER AND INDICATOR REMAIN IN DRIVE EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE LOSES MOTIVE POWER. I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO GET REAR ENDED. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES PREVIOUSLY. AFTER CHECKING ALL THE BLOGS, I SEE THAT THE SWITCH CONTACTS IN THE ESM (ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE) ARE PRONE TO FAILURE. THE ESM/SHIFTER BEZEL IS A $795 PART FROM CHRYSLER.
LONG STORY SHORT MY WIFE HEARD A NOISE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT END. I HAD HER STOP BY BELLE TIRE (WHERE TIRES CAME FROM) TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AND WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE! BELLE SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT! I HAD IT TAKEN TO TOWN & COUNTRY COLLISION IN FLAT ROCK (AN A-1 SHOP) AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T FIX IT UNLESS THEY REPLACE THE WHOLE FRAME! I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND THAT'S AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER WHO HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT! I'M WONDERING IF THERE WERE EVER ANY INCIDENTS IN YOUR SYSTEM FOR ANYTHING LIKE THIS? I WILL OFFER TO GIVE YOU THE VEHICLE, AS I DID WITH CHRYSLER IN MY COMPLAINT TO THEM, FOR INVESTIGATIVE PURPOSES? I KNOW FROM MY YEARS OF WORK IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY THAT THERE WERE SALT SPRAY TESTS & REQUIREMENTS ON MOST CHASSIS PARTS. PEOPLE ARE ASTOUNDED THAT A 15 YEAR OLD JEEP THAT'S NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS GARAGED AND KEPT CLEAN AND MAINTAINED AND STILL RUNNING LIKE TOP COULD HAVE A FAILURE AS THIS! ANY ASSISTANCE OR DIRECTION YOU CAN PROVIDE IS APPRECIATED.
THE PLASTIC COMPONENT THAT HOUSES THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS CRACKED, WITH PIECES FALLING OUT. NOW ON THE RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR THE HANDLE HAS FALLEN OUT BECAUSE THE PLASTIC HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. THE OTHER THREE PLASTIC PIECES ARE ALSO ALL CRACKING WITH HANDLES ALREADY GETTING LOOSE. IF THERE WERE AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO EXIT VEHICLE VIA THE REAR DOOR. I AM AFRAID THAT IN DUE TIME THE OTHER HANDLES WILL FALL OUT. *TR
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES DISINTEGRATE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN DOORS FROM INSIDE. OBVIOUSLY A TREMENDOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN CASE OF MISHAP AS ALL FOUR DISINTEGRATE AT THE SAME RATE. WE HAD 2 TOTALLY FAIL RENDERING DOOR INOPERATIVE AND OCCUPANT UNABLE TO EXIT. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND LIGHTS UP AGAIN. ALL GAUGES GO TO ZERO AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, THEN RETURNS TO NORMAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUPPORT STRUT THAT HELD THE HOOD IN PLACE COLLAPSED ON HIS HAND. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED, AND CONCERNED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SEVERE. THE DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE THE SUPPORT STRUT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SPRINGS FOR THE STRUTS ARE WEAK AND CAN SNAP GOING OVER A BUMPS IN ROAD CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE STRUTS AND REPLACEMENT OF BOTH PARTS. I CURRENTLY HAD THIS HAPPEN AND WAS TOLD BY MY GARAGE THEY SEES THIS SO MUCH FROM JEEP THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER SINCE THEY CAN NOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING TO MY DAUGHTERS WHEN THE JEEP SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE LEFT. CROSSED CENTER LINE, HIT GUARD RAIL AND ROLLED THREE TIMES DOWN THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY NO CARS WERE COMING. MY FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FIRE WAS WEDGED IN THE GUARD RAIL. I WAS UPSIDE DOWN AND MANAGED TO UNDO MY SEAT BELT AND CRAWL OUT BACK BROKEN WINDOW. THE MAN BEHIND ME WROTE A LETTER TELLING ME HOW HE WAS JUST FOLLOWING ME AND I JUST LOST CONTROL, HE'S THE ONE WHO CALLED 911 AND SAID HE WAS CHECKING FOR "SURVIVORS". THIS WAS A SUNNY JUNE MORNING, NOTHING ON THE ROAD. ITS LIKE THE JEEP HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. AFTER SURGERY ON MY SHOULDER AND TRYING TO GET BACK TO WORK, I WAS FORCED TO GO ON DISABILITY. I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS RECALL YEARS AGO. MY LIFE HAS CHANGED BECAUSE OF IT. THE JEEP WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF COURSE.THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT 10 MILES WEST OF IRON RIVER, MI ON US-2. THIS WHOLE THING HAS CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER.
INTERIOR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS CRACKED/BROKEN. CHRYSLER CORP. DEALER STATES THAT IT WILL COST $600. THERE HAS BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR SAME DEFECTIVE/CHEAP DOOR HANDLES AND THEIR BREAKAGE, MADE ON INTERNET. THIS IS AN UNSAFE ISSUE. PEOPLE CAN'T GET OUT OF THEIR VEHICLES! *TR
DURING THE MONTH OF MAY 2011 THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE RECESSES BEGAN TO CRACK AND ULTIMATELY THE PIECES LITERALLY BEGAN TO FALL OF THE VEHICLE RENDERING THE DOOR HANDLES USELESS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE AS DOOR HANDLES NO LONGER HAD A PIVOT POINT TO OPERATE AGAINST WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PULL THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IN AN EFFORT TO OPERATE THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM. THIS FAILURE MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE SHORT OF ROLLING DOWN THE POWER WINDOWS AND PULLING ON THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. ON THE TENTH OF JUNE 2011 THE SELLING DEALER WAS CALLED CONCERNING THIS ISSUE AND THE OPERATIONS MANAGER STATED HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. SUBSEQUENTLY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED AND AFTER SEVERAL EXCHANGES WITH TWO DIFFERENT CASE MANAGERS, ON THE 21ST OF JUNE I WAS TOLD BY THE PRESIDING CASE MANAGER THAT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD BEEN OUT OF WARRANTY FOR SO LONG (2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO) CHRYSLER WOULD DO NOTHING. *KB

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,099 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE LAST NIGHT,MY DASH LIGHTS AND MY HEAD LIGHT FLASH ON AND OFF AND SOMETIMES THEY GO OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
AT APPROXIMATELY 78K MILES, VEHICLE WOULD OCCASIONALLY START AND THE ONLY SYSTEM THAT WAS OPERATIONAL WAS THE RADIO. I CLEANED AND INSPECTED ALL CONNECTORS THAT I COULD ACCESS, AND PROBLEM APPEARED TO GO AWAY. THEN JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED (80K MILES) INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEGUN TO APPEAR. THE TRANSMISSION SOMETIMES "STICKS" IN 3RD GEAR, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAIL TO FUNCTION AND WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN THEM ON IT CRASHES THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WHICH THEN BEGINS RUNNING RANDOM SYSTEM ERRORS, AND THE HEADLIGHTS SOMETIMES TURN OFF OR FAIL TO COME ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED WITH FORCE AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE LEFT REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT BROKE CAUSING AN EXHAUST LEAK MUST BE AN ISSUE WITH THE 2006 SEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME BOLT BREAKING, CAR WAS IN MOTION CITY STREET
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL SPORADICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY ALSO UPDATED THE SOFTWARE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THE AREA BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS IMPLODED, THE PLASTIC IS CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES, ALLOWING THE INTERIOR HANDLE TO HANG LOOSELY. THE AREA WOULD BE BEST DESCRIBED AS THE WELL BEHIND THE HANDLE. THAT DOOR SAW ALMOST NO USE. IT DOES NOT ALLOW FOR NORMAL EXIT OF THE VEHICLE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
UNINTENDED ENGINE ACCELERATION / SURGE. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE 5.7 LITER HEMI ENGINE IN A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY SURGED WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. MAXIMUM BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL TO PREVENT THE JEEP FROM GOING INTO TRAFFIC. AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL THE ENGINE RPM WENT AS HIGH 4500 RPM (NORMAL ENGINE RPM AT IDLE IN GEAR IS ABOUT 700 RPM). ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE JEEP WAS BROUGHT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAULT WITH THE VEHICLE (NO FAULT CODES OR ANY ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR). THIS BEHAVIOR COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THE RESULTS IN SERIOUS INJURIES AND OR DEATH TO INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED. *TR
ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES BROKE. WHEN YOU TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR THE HANDLE CRASHED AND YOU ENDED WITH THE DOOR HANDLE IN YOUR HAND. *TR
THE OEM NUT HOLDING THE PINCH BOLT TO THE UPPER CONTROL ARM IN MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED CAME LOOSE AND ULTIMATELY FELL OFF. THIS CAUSED THE UPPER CONTROL ARM TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL AND HUB ASSEMBLY BREAKING OFF FROM THE AXLE WHILE IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WITH THREE INTACT WHEELS AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL UNDERNEATH THE BODY. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH WOULD HAVE BEEN PROBABLE, DUE TO THE LOSS OF THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY AND THE LOSS OF ALL BRAKE SYSTEM HYDRAULIC PRESSURE, AS THE BRAKE LINE WAS ALSO SEVERED. THE OEM NUT HOLDING THE PINCH WELD TO THE UPPER CONTROL ARM APPEARS INADEQUATELY DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND ROUTINE REMOVAL AND RETIGHTENING FOR SERVICE SUCH AS WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENTS. THERE APPEARS TO BE INADEQUATE ENGINEERING THOUGHT INTO ENSURING, AT A MINIMUM, A SIMPLE MECHANISM TO SECURELY FASTEN THE NUT (E.G., COTTER PIN, SERRATED FLANGE, OR OTHER LOCKING FEATURE). THIS IS A SEVERE OVERSIGHT GIVEN THE POTENTIAL DANGER ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER CONTROL ARM SEPARATION AT SPEED. *TR
THREE OF THE FOUR (THE 4TH IS SHATTERED) DOOR HANDLES IN MY JEEP ARE CRACKED, READY TO BREAK ANYTIME. THE PASSENGER SIDE ONE IS COMPLETELY CRACKED AND BROKEN HANGING ON BY A THREAD. I'M AFRAID SOON I'M GOING TO HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW JUST TO GET OUT OF THE JEEP. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, I CAN ONLY HOPE I'M NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. DURING THE WEEKS OF EARLY MARCH, I EXPERIENCED LEAKS OF THE INTERIOR OF MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DRIPPING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (A-PILLAR), DRIVER SIDE (A-PILLAR) AND ABOVE THE HOME GARAGE DOOR CONTROLS (OVERHEAD CONSOLE) AFTER IT RAINED/SNOWED. I BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 22 TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER WHERE IT WAS TROUBLESHOOT WITH RE-SECURING THE WEATHER STRIP ABOVE WINDSHIELD AND A GASKET IN THE SUNROOF WAS REPLACED (TSB 23 040 06). HOWEVER 2 DAYS LATER THE LEAK OCCURRED AGAIN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE (ABOVER THE DRIVER, MYSELF) IN WHICH IT DOES TAKE YOUR FOCUS OFF THE ROAD AS WATER DRIPS ON YOUR LEGS/KNEE. THE LEAK HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED, AS VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN A SECOND TIME ON MARCH 28 AND NO CONFIRMED TROUBLE-SHOOT WAS COMPLETED AS I RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE BACK ON MARCH 31ST WITH A THEORY OF THE LEAK EITHER COMING FROM THE WINDSHIELD OR THE SUNROOF. THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK ONCE MORE DETAIL WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE MANAGER HOWEVER I NEVER RECEIVED ONCE CALL-BACK. INTERESTINGLY ON THE 28TH WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN HE SAID "THIS WAS THE 4TH VEHICLE THIS WEEK", AMONG OTHERS THAT I MYSELF HAVE FOUND ONLINE OF MULTIPLE JEEP OWNERS EVEN THE 2011 MODEL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THUNDERSTORM SEASON IS HERE AND HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND LEAKS DRIPPING ON THE DRIVER ARE DISTRACTIVE AND TAKE FOCUS OFF THE ROAD. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FROM JEEP AFTER SO MANY OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE AND END UP PAYING OUT OF POCKETS FOR REPAIRS TO THEIR CARPETS(MOLD), STEREO DAMAGE, AMONG OTHER THINGS. FORTUNATELY I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY MAJOR ACCIDENTS FROM THIS BUT A DISTRACTION IS DEFINITELY OUT THERE FOR DRIVERS IF IT LEAKS OR STARTS LEAKING WHILE ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
BROKEN INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES- THEY ARE CHIPPING OFF AROUND THE HANDLE CAUSING THE HANDLES TO FALL INSIDE THE DOOR AND ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS. ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE PLASTIC SUPPORTING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN LEAVING THE HANDLE UNMOUNTED. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY 400.00 TO 500.00 A PANEL AND EVERY ONE OF THE HANDLES IN MY VEHICLE ARE LIKE THIS. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I CONTACTED JEEP AT 1-800-521-9922 AND FILED A CASE AND THEY HAVE DECLINED TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY STATING IT IS WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE OWNED MAY VEHICLES AND NEVER HAVE I EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER OF THE HANDLES ON MY VEHICLES. I HAVE A 1988 FORD TRUCK THAT THE DOOR HANDLES WORK FINE AND ARE NOT BROKEN. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT ON THESE VEHICLES AND A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE...ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS NOT JUST ONE DOOR HANDLE IT IS ALL OF THEM. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. *JS

STARTING AT AROUND 55,000 MILES WHILE I WOULD BE DRIVING MY JEEP, THE CAR WOULD STOP MOVING BUT THE ENGINE WOULD REV AS I PUSHED ON THE PEDAL. I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GO IN DRIVE, NEUTRAL OR REVERSE. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WAIT A FEW SECONDS THEN RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE HAD MY CAR AT MY MECHANICS AS WELL AS A JEEP DEALERSHIP, A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES, NOW READY TO GO BACK IN FOR THE 6TH TIME. EACH TIME I AM TOLD THE PROBLEM IS FIXED AND A DAY OR 2 LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN. WHEN I CALL TO LET THE MECHANIC KNOW I AM HAVING THE PROBLEM AGAIN, I AM THEN TOLD THAT NEITHER THEY NOR THE DEALERSHIP KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND TO BRING IT BACK IN. I AM NOT SURE HOW, BUT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR PANEL CRACKED AND DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF LEAVING BACK SEAT PASSENGERS VULNERABLE (A CHILD RIDES BACK THERE). IN ADDITION, THERE IS A LARGE CRACK IN THE PANEL OF THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AS WELL. I HAVE 70,500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WITH A SERVICE CONTRACT OF 7 YEARS/85,000 MILES MAXIMUM CARE STILL IN EFFECT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (HALL CHRYSLER JEEP IN VIRGINIA BEACH) AND WAS QUOTED $475 FOR A BACK ORDERED DOOR PANEL (WHICH TO REPLACE BOTH DOORS COMES TO $950...UNACCEPTABLE!) I REFUSED TO ORDER THE UNIT SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY MY SERVICE CONTRACT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER GROUP, LLC AND WAS TOLD THAT "HANDLES AND PLASTIC PARTS ARE NOT COVERED"...THE HANDLE ISN'T BROKEN, THE PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A GENUINE SAFETY CONCERN AND URGE THE NHTSA TO ENFORCE A RECALL FROM JEEP. IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT, MY PASSENGERS WOULD BE TRAPPED!! IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT JEEP WOULD SELL SUCH A HIGH-END VEHICLE WITH THIS KIND OF SAFETY DEFECT. AT THE TIME OF THIS COMPLAINT THREE OF FOUR OF THE DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAVE BROKEN OFF AND ARE UNUSABLE. THE PLASTIC HANDLES AND THE SUPPORTING DOOR FRAMES ARE ALL CRACKING IN THE SAME LOCATION AND THE HANDLES THEN FALL OFF. THE DEALER JUST TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY MAY NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE ?PROBLEM START AFTER 50,000 MILES?, THIS IS RIDICULOUS, AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO EVEN DISCUSS THE ISSUE, THEY DIDN'T ANSWER PHONE CALLS, EVEN VOICEMAILS, NOTHING AT ALL! FOR ME IT?S MORE THAN OBVIOUS, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT TAKES MORE TIME TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE IN AN ACCIDENT. HAS ONLY DONE IT TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH AND I'VE OWNED IT FOR 3 YEARS. SEEMS TO DO IT IN THE EXTREME COLD, BUT VEHICLE IS FULLY WARMED BEFORE I DRIVE IT. I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED USED 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN 2008 WITH 26K MILES. BESIDES A MALFUNCTIONING ELECTRONIC SHIFTER IN 2009 EVERYTHING HAS BEEN RUNNING GREAT UNTIL 1/2/2011. AT APPROXIMATELY 6:30PM WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS (EXCEPT FOR THE MAP LIGHTS) BEGAN TO FLICKER AND THEN FAIL. THE LIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN FAIL. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE NEXT 30 MILES AND PERSISTENTLY WORSENED UNTIL I GOT HOME WHEN THE LIGHTS REMAINED OFF FOR 15 TO 20 SECONDS AT A TIME. EACH TIME IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING I CYCLED THE SWITCH, CYCLED THE BRIGHTS AND TRIED ANYTHING I COULD TO GET THE LIGHTS TO STAY ON. NONE OF THESE METHODS WORKED. UPON GETTING HOME SAFELY I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER TWO RESTARTS. I WENT TO BED AND TRIED IT IN THE MORNING AND THE LIGHTS WORKED FINE FOR A 70 MILE DAYLIGHT DRIVE TO THE DEALER. JUST RECEIVED WORD FROM THE DEALER THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE FAILURE SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND DANGEROUS TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD IN THIS CONDITION EVEN IF IT ONLY HAPPENS ONCE EVERY TWO YEARS. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO WITH ONLY 60,234K MILES AND THE DOOR PANELS ON 3 OF THE 4 DOORS SO FAR HAVE BROKEN OUT JUST WITH THE NORMAL USE, INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CRACK, PLASTIC BREAKS,HANDLES GO LIMP AND HANDLES FALL OFF. THE PLASTIC PANEL COMPONENTS ARE FRAGILE AND CHEAP.
