TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT SUSPECTS FAILURE IN HER VEHICLE'S UNIVERSAL JOINTS. WHEN SHE DRIVES THE VEHICLE, IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE AND SHAKES. WHEN SHE SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE NOISE STOPS. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS. THE PART FOR THE REPAIR IS UNAVAILABLE BECAUSE IT IS A NEWER MODEL VEHICLE AND THE DRIVESHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 42,963 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR RECALL REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE AND FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900.
THE BRAKE PEDAL ON MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS 3.25 INCHES HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL (ALMOST 2 INCHES HIGHER THAN MY OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLE). I HAVE CAUGHT MY FOOT UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ALSO FARTHER TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE WITH A WIDER SPACE BETWEEN IT AND THE ACCELERATOR FURTHER EXAGGERATING THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS A FLAW. *JB

WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN AT INTERSECTION ,AND REAPPLYING GAS ENGINE RPM GOES UP BUT CAR DOESN'T MOVE ,THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT LUNGES FORWARD. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT COMPLETE STOP. THEN TRIES TO GO BUT THEN JUMPS FORWARD. WHICH AT TIMES IT THROWS YOU BACK IN YOUR SEAT. *NM
PURCHASED BRAND NEW 06 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4. RIGHT FROM THE GET GO, ONCOMING CARS WOULD FLASH US AT NIGHT. I LEARNED LATER THAT THE 06 LOW BEAMS ARE 60% BRIGHTER THAN THE 05 MODEL. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO SOURG DODGE IN GOSHEN IN. THEY ARE COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. SINCE THEN I'VE BEEN PULLED OVER TWICE AND LAST NIGHT WAS RAN COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD. I TURNED MY LIGHTS ON AND HAD A FRIEND DRIVE PAST ME. HE VERIFIED. THE LIGHTS ARE BLINDING. I TOOK MY TICKET TO SORG DODGE. NO HELP, I'M ON MY OWN. UNLESS OF COURSE I WANT TO PURCHASE NEW LIGHTS. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY CALLED A "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM". IT CONCERNS THE EAGLE RSA EMT (RUN FLAT) TIRES THAT WERE INSTALLED ON MY 2006 JEEP. I CALLED THE CONSUMER RELATIONS NUMBER LISTED ON THE LETTER AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE TIRES CAN SEPARATE INSIDE AND BASICALLY COME APART! THE DEALER HAS TO TAKE THEM OFF THE RIMS AND INSPECT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE AND THEN DETERMINE IF IT'S GOOD OR BAD. IF IT'S BAD THEY WILL REPLACE THAT TIRE, BUT ONLY IF THEY "THINK" IT'S BAD? WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY THINK IT ISN'T BAD AND IT COMES APART LATER ON? EITHER THIS IS A RECALL OR IT ISN'T? IF IT IS THEN ALL THE TIRES SHOULD BE REPLACED! *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO DEPRESS PROPERLY, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS DIMMED, AND THE TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED TWICE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE COMPUTER MODULE. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
SOME TYPE OF METAL RUBBING TOGETHER NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE AT SLOW TAKE OFF FROM COMPLETE STOP. STOPS AFTER YOU REACH JUST A FEW MPH. *NM
WE PURCHASED IN OCT. 2006,A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4, V6 WITH 5 SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSION, VIN [XXX]. THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM RELATED TO THIS VEHICLE AND TRANSMISSION. PROBLEM: THE VEHICLE HAS NO HILL HOLDING CAPABILITIES. IN OTHER WORDS, WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL, THE BRAKE MUST BE HELD ON WITH YOUR LEFT FOOT AND YOUR RIGHT FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD WITH OUT THE VEHICLE DRIFTING BACKWARD. IN ALL THE AUTOMATIC VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE 1958, INCLUDING 1993 AND 1996 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, NONE PF THEM WERE WITHOUT HILL HOLDING CAPABILITIES. THE FIRST TIME I STOPPED ON A HILL WITH THIS VEHICLE, I DRIFTED BACKWARDS AND ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME BEFORE I REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THIS TO ME IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND SOMETHING DAMILER CHRYSLER SHOULD BE ADDRESSING. IN EXPRESSING MY PROBLEM TO D.C. CUSTOMER SERVICE, I JUST GOT LIP SERVICE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 16,000 MILES AND THE ROTORS ARE ALREADY BAD. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR, BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. 12 MONTHS ON BRAKES, WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 15 MONTHS. MUST REPLACE ROTORS NOW AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR

TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS AND DOWN SHIFTS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. *NM
AN EMPLOYEE OF MINE AT MY FULL SERVICE CARWASH GOT INTO A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND AFTER SHE STARTED IT AND PUT IT IN GEAR THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF AND COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER CUSTOMER VEHICLE. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ALSO, IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I OWN A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE CAME NEW FROM FACTORY WITH GOODYEAR TIRES: WRANGLER SR-A 245-65R-17. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE HIGHWAY AND ONE OF THE REAR TIRES BLEW OUT. CALLED GOODYEAR AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THEY CREATED A FILE (#860902) AND REFERRED ME TO THE NEAREST TIRE STORE NEAR MY HOME. AN INSPECTION OF THE TIRE BY THE STORE REVEALED NO ROAD HAZARD DAMAGE. THE TIRE WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. GOODYEAR REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AND ONLY OFFERED A 56% REIMBURSEMENT ON THE COST OF THE TIRE (NOT LABOR OR INSTALLATION). THE JEEP WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JANUARY 2006 AND ONLY HAD 13,000 MILES WITH 30% TREAD WEAR. DECIDED TO PURCHASE THE REPLACEMENT TIRE FROM WWW.TIRERACK.COM. MAILED THE INVOICE TO GOODYEAR TODAY. HOPE TO RECEIVE A REFUND SOON. STILL AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THEY WON'T REFUND 100% OF THE COST OF THE TIRE. IN ADDITION, ALSO WORRYING IF THE REMAINING TIRES ON THE CAR WILL FOLLOW THE SAME PATTERN AND BLOW UP. THE BLOWN-UP TIRE REVEALED 7 DOUGHNUT SHAPED HOLES ON THE SIDE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 17 MPH DOWN A CURVY MOUNTAIN ROAD IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LOW, THE VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF LOW GEAR AND SPED DOWN THE MOUNTAIN AFTER THE RPM'S REACHED 1800. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THE HEMI ENGINE WAS DESIGNED TO JUMP OUT A GEAR TO CONSERVE GAS.
WHILE DRIVING A RENTED 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART THE ENGINE. I DROVE CAUTIOUSLY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENTS. ON THE RETURN TRIP ON A STATE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY STOPPED. AGAIN, I SAFELY STEERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THIS TIME, I REALIZED THAT MOVING MY RIGHT LEG WHILE DRIVING, MY RIGHT KNEE HAD HIT THE KEY AND MOVED IT TO THE "OFF" POSITION. BOTH INCIDENTS DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT SINCE THE ROADWAY WAS EMPTY OF OTHER VEHICLES. *JB
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED JUST WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED MY GRAND CHEROKEE. I WAS ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE.THE HIGHWAY DID NOT HAVE A SHOULDER TO PULL OVER ON. THERE WAS A TRACTOR TRAILER IN FRONT OF ME, BEHIND ME AND TO MY RIGHT. MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED DECREASING IN SPEED RAPIDLY, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND IT WAS AS IF MY CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. I HAD NO WHERE TO GO AS IT WAS SANDWICHED IN BETWEEN SEMIS ALL GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I TURNED ON MY HAZARDS UNTIL I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, PUT THE KEY INTO THE OFF POSITION AND RESTARTED IT.I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE TULSA,OK JEEP DEALERSHIP. TO SAY I WAS SHAKEN UP IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THEY RAN TESTS ON IT. CAME BACK TO ME AND TOLD ME THE CAR CHECKED OUT PERFECTLY FINE AND EITHER MY KNEE HIT THE IGNITION OR MY KEYS WERE TOO HEAVY. MY KEYS ONLY HAD MY CAR KEY, HOUSE KEY AND MY KEY FOB ON IT AND I KNEW MY KNEE HAD NOT HIT THE IGNITION. I WAS SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR FROM THEN ON. THE INCIDENTS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN OVER AND CORE AGAIN.SOMETIMES AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, BUT ALSO LOTS OF TIMES AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED UNDER 25MPH OR WHILE GOING FROM A STOP TO START (LIKE AT A STOP LIGHT OR WHILE TRYING TO TURN). I CONTINUED TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP THE ENTIRE TIME IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I RECEIVED THE EXACT SAME ANSWER EVERY SINGLE TIME. THEY TREATED ME LIKE I WAS MAKING THE INCIDENTS UP. THE INCIDENTS STARTED HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND AFTER MY SECOND CHILD WAS BORN WE WERE FINALLY IN A POSITION TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY JEEP HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR OVER A YEAR. WE ARE UNABLE TO SELL IT FOR ANYTHING CLOSE TO WHAT KBB SAYS ITS WORTH. AND WE ALSO FEEL LIKE WE CAN'T SELL IT CONSCIOUSLY KNOWING IT COULD KILL SOMEONE.THESE CARS ARE A DEATH TRAP AND BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL SITUATIONS FAMILIES ARE FORCED TO KEEP. *TR
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON 2006 GRAND CHEROKEE VEHICLES IS MUCH TOO STRONG AND BLINDING, LEAVING SURROUNDING DRIVERS POTENTIALLY LESS APT TO REACT SAFELY TO CHANGING DRIVING CONDITIONS. THESE ARE DRL LIGHTS, NOT NORMAL OR HIGH BEAMS. ALL VEHICLES ARE THE SAME, I HAVE VERIFIED. *NM
MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED AND PLACED INTO REVERSE, ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE JUMPED APPROX. 15 FEET BACKWARDS. ALSO, ONE TIME WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, SITTING IN TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE REVVED ON IT'S OWN AND IT JUMPED FORWARD APPROX 15 FEET. IN ALL THREE INCIDENCES, THE BRAKES WHERE DEPRESSED AND WHERE NOT ABLE TO HOLD THE VEHICLE BACK. THE BRAKES HAD TO BE RELEASED AND THEN RE-APPLIED TO GET IT TO STOP. *NM

HE BELIEVED THAT THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY STOP. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THREE DEALERS APPROXIMATELY FOUR OR FIVE TIMES. THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS REPLACED MOST RECENTLY, BUT THIS MAY NOT HAVE CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO DASHBOARD LIGHTS KEEP ILLUMINATING. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM. SHE STATED THAT SHE LOST ALL POWER BRAKES. REPAIR SHOP RECEIVED THE TENSIONER AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECEIVED A RECALL IN THE MAIL AFTER SHE HAD EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. THE SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER WAS REPLACED AND THE REAR DEFROSTER LINE WAS INOPERATIVE. *JB
PURCHASED NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN MAY 2006. THE PROBLEM STARTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND CONTINUE. , DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER WHILE DRIVING, RESULTING IN NO STEERING OR BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED EVERY FEW DAYS, WITHOUT WARNING, MOST RECENTLY AT SPEED OF 50 MPH, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO MANUALLY, WITH MUCH DIFFICULTY, STEERED OFF ROAD INTO FIELD TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH OTHER VEHICLES. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, I COULD ONLY IMAGINE IF IT HAPPENED ON AN EXPRESSWAY DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD BE KILLED. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ALWAYS STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, AND ASKED ME TO KEEP DRIVING UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THEN BRING THE CAR BACK IN. THIS COULD NOT GO ON! SOMEONE OR MANY PEOPLE WERE GOING TO BE KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE, BUT I HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DRIVE. PLEASE HELP. *AK
I AND ONE PASSENGER WERE INVOLVED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I WAS STOPPED AND WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND THEN WAS PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY PASSENGER IMMEDIATELY COMPLAINED OF HER LEFT CALF HURTING HER. WE LOOKED TO SEE WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS PAIN--IT WAS THE ADJUSTMENT BAR LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT. THE ADJUSTMENT BAR IS LARGE AND STICKS OUT FROM UNDER THE SEAT. I FELT THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE STICKING OUT SO MUCH. I CONTACTED THE CAR COMPANY (DAIMLER-CHYRSLER). THEY HAD SOMEONE INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THEY SENT ME A LETTER BACK STATING THAT I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY AIR BAG AND SENT A BROCHURE ON AIR BAGS. I NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT THE AIR BAG. THEY MENTIONED IN ONE SENTENCE AT THE END THAT THE ADJUSTER BAR WAS NOT DAMAGED AND OPERATED PROPERLY. MY CONCERN IS THAT I PURCHASED AN SUV TO FEEL SAFE AND THE ADJUSTER BAR CAUSED DAMAGE??? THE MANUFACTURER FAILED IN UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM WHEN I VOICED MY COMPLAINT AND FAILED IN PROVIDING A SAFE VEHICLE. THE ADJUSTER BAR CAUSED A HUGE BRUISE THAT WAS VISIBLE FOR 2 WEEKS. AND STILL 2 AND HALF MONTHS LATER THERE IS STILL PAIN. THE COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE SO QUICK TO DISMISS COMPLAINTS AND SHOULD ACTUALLY READ THE COMPLAINT AND UNDERSTAND IT. THE DESIGN OF THE ADJUSTER BAR NEEDS TO BE EXAMINED AS TO NOT CAUSE INJURY TO OTHERS IN THE FUTURE. *JB

THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 65TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION: 15 DAYS OFF THE LOT WHEN WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. I COULD NOT STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED "MAJOR INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE" AND REPLACED WITH NEW ENGINE. ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER RATTLING SOUND TURNED OUT TO BE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. STILL WAITING FOR THE PART. SUV STILL DOES NOT DRIVE 100%. SOMETIMES WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS THE TRUCK DOES NOT RESPOND RIGHT AWAY. *JB
TWO ISSUES. 1. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS ON THE VEHICLE ARE NOT DESIGNED TO STAY OPEN. THEY RETURN WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE AND HAVE DINGED ANKLES SEVERAL TIMES. ANYONE MORE FRAIL WILL HAVE A CRACKED ANKLE. 2. THE HORN IS TOO DIFFICULT TO ACTIVATE. *NM

THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD THE GENERAL MANGER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY KEY CHAINS. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE KEY CHAIN AND STILL EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP WK 4X4 ON FEB 20 2006. AS SOON AS WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH 150 MILES ON IT THE AIR BAGS MALFUNCTIONED AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED. ABOUT 1 WEEK AFTER THE REPAIRS THEY MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AND WHERE FIXED AGAIN ONLY TO MALFUNCTION 2 MORE TIMES AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS AND CLEARED THE CODES. AT THE 3000 MILE SERVICE THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK ON THE FRONT CRANK SEAL WHICH WAS REPLACED. IT HAS ALSO BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES DUE TO AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT IN WHICH CASE THERE WAS A MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WHERE NO PROBLEMS AND CLEARED THE CODE EVERY TIME ONLY FOR IT TO COME BACK ON. I JUST PICKED MY VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER AGAIN BECAUSE THE CRANK PULLEY AND DAMPENER WHERE WOBBLING REAL BAD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN FOR THE SAME REASON. ALL REPAIRS WHERE MADE AND AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP 15 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS WHEN I'M STOPPED AND SHIFTS REAL HARD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID ITS FINE AND THERE IS NOW EVIDENCE OF THAT. ALL THESE INCIDENTS ARE ONGOING SINCE THE DAY IT WAS PURCHASED. *JB
THIS CONCERNS AN UNSAFE DESIGN OF SUV. I RENTED A 2006 JEEP CHEROKEE IN JAN. 2006 FROM AVIS RENTAL CAR COMPANY. I AM A FREQUENT RENTER AND RENT A WIDE VARIETY OF AUTOS. I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THE JEEP ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. BEING A VERY EXPERIENCED DRIVER I LOOKED AT THE RPM GAUGE AND NOTICED THAT THE RPM WAS ON "0?? INDICATING THE JEEP WAS NOT RUNNING. THE RADIO WAS STILL PLAYING (AS THIS IS A FEATURE COMMONLY AVAILABLE THAT THE RADIO WILL PLAY AFTER THE AUTO IS SWITCHED UNTIL THE DOOR IS OPENED). I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE JEEP. IT WAS NOT UNTIL LATTER THAT DAY THAT I REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPEN BECAUSE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IN THE CHEROKEE, THE KEY SWITCH IS LOCATED LOW IN THE DASH FACING THE DRIVER. THIS LOCATION OF THE KEY SWITCH AND THE COMBINATION OF A LARGE KEY WITH A SELF-CONTAINED REMOTE ELECTRONIC DOOR OPENER MAKE IT POSSIBLE THAT THE TOP OF MY KNEE COULD HIT THE KEY SWITCH AND EFFECTIVELY SWITCH OFF THE AUTO WHILE IN MOTION. I WAS ABLE TO ASSET THE PROBLEM AND REACT ACCORDINGLY BUT IF HAD BEEN MY WIFE OR MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THAT OTHER WISE WOULD HAVE BEEN UNEXPLAINABLE. WITH THE AUTO SWITCHED OFF MANY OF THE AUTO'S SYSTEMS DO NOT WORK. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE!!! *NM

WE BOUGHT AN 04' JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AT JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE OF WARWICK, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. WE TOOK IT DOWN FOR SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE GAS CAP. THE LIGHT STILL CAME ON AND HAD A HARD TIME STARTING. WE TRADED IT IN AT THE SAME PLACE 1 MONTH LATER FOR AN 06 JEEP WITH 15,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER THIS PURCHASE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE STARTED MAKING HORRIBLE NOISES. WE TOOK IT FOR SERVICE AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT NOISE. AFTER THAT THE BATTERY DIED AND THEY TOWED IT THERE AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. NOW WE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP STALLING OUT WHEN WE ARE PARKED OR AT AN IDLE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAS CAME LOOSE FROM THE WELD BREAKING. NOW IT IS HITTING THE FRONT QUARTER PANEL AND IS CHIPPING PAINT. ALL FOUR DOORS ARE COMING AWAY FROM THE WELDS CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD TO ALL OF THE PASSENGERS. WE BROUGHT IT DOWN FOR THE DEALER TO LOOK AT THE DOORS AND THEY KEPT PUTTING US OF BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A LONER CAR, OR THAT THE MANAGER WAS NOT THERE, OR THAT THERE BODY SHOP WAS NOT AVAILABLE. NOW THEY SAY THAT WE NEVER BROUGHT IT DOWN TO SHOW THEM. EVERY TIME WE BROUGHT IT TO THEM THEY NEVER PUT IT IN THE SHOP AND MADE EXCUSES FOR ALL OF THE PROBLEMS. THEY NEVER PUT IN THERE COMPUTER THAT WE CAME TO THEM, WITH THESE PROBLEMS AND DENY THAT WE HAD ANY. THE ONE TIME WHEN THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY WE PICKED IT UP WITH ALMOST 150 EXTRA MILES ON IT. RENTED 2006 JEEP CHEROKEE AT AIRPORT. DURING TWO STOPS AT INTERSECTIONS I REACHED TO SWITCH RADIO STATIONS AND ACCIDENTALLY AND LIGHTLY BRUSHED THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. THEY SWITCHED TO "ACC" AND THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF. WHEN I SAY "LIGHTLY BRUSHED" I MEAN JUST THAT. I WASN'T EVEN AWARE OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED UNTIL THE SECOND INCIDENT. TWO THINGS APPEAR DEFECTIVE: THE PLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION AND THE FACT THAT JUST A LIGHT TOUCH TURNS THE KEY OFF. HAD I DONE THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY BEEN INOPERABLE AND A DANGEROUS SITUATION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *NM

CAR TURNS ITSELF OFF WHEN IDELING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, SITTING IN TRAFFIC, OR FAST STOP. NO ERROR MESSAGES ON DASHBOARD. CAN BE DANGEROUS IF ON HIGHWAY AND HAVE SUDDEN STOP. WILL NOT HAVE STEERING OR BRAKES. WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP IT SHUTS DOWN. STARTS BACK UP NO PROBLEM AND IT RUNS GOOD OTHERWISE.

THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF THE LOCATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT WAS ONLY ON INCH ABOVE THE CONSUMER'S KNEE CAP WHEN HIS FOOT WAS ON THE THROTTLE. WHEN HE LIFTED HIS FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE HIS KNEE WOULD TOUCH THE KEY AND THE IGNITION WOULD SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS A RENTAL. *NM

THE SWITCH'S NEW LOCATION RESULTED IN FREQUENT CONTACT WITH THE DRIVER'S KNEE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DRIVER IS MOVING HIS OR HER FOOT FROM THE THROTTLE TO THE BRAKE. *NM
