MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF UNINTENDED CHANGE IN IGNITION SWITCH POSITION TO THE OFF POSITION, RESULTING IN ENGINE SHUTDOWN, ELECTRICAL AND POWER STEERING COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN/LOCK. FIRST OCCURRENCE (APPROXIMATELY 2010) WAS DURING A LEFT-HAND TURN, WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A MULTIPLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. CONSTANT AIRBAG LIGHT WARNING. MULTIPLE OTHER OCCURRENCES SINCE THEN, RESULTING IN MULTIPLE CALLS TO DEALER AND CONTACT TO 1800 NUMBERS PROVIDED. FAC P57/NHTSA 14V-567 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE RECEIVED AND DEALER AGAIN CONTACTED. HOWEVER, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION IS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION AND THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF/WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. ACCORDINGLY, NO REPAIR/REMEDY CAN BE MADE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT A REAR ANTI LOCK BRAKING SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE LIGHT INDICATED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD NOT FUNCTION DUE TO THE SPEED SENSOR READING INACCURATELY. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN DURING RAINY WEATHER, IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SPEED SENSOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FAULTY SPEED SENSORS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CONSUMER LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER AND BRAKE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THERE ARE TWO MAIN ISSUES: STALLING AND NO START. STALLING ISSUE - VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL ON 8/9/10 ON A RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT BASIS WHILE DRIVING AT VARYING SPEEDS. THE STALLING APPEARS TO HAVE STOPPED AFTER THE LAST SERVICE WAS COMPLETED ON 7/25/11. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION RELATES TO THE STALLING ISSUE. EACH DATE IS SEPARATE VISIT TO DEALERSHIP: 8/13/10 - PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WITH NO FAULT CODES STORED. CHECKED WIRING TO PDC AND FRONT CONTROL MODULE. ROAD TESTED FOR 55 MILES. COULD NOT DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERN. 9/2/10 - REPLACED WIRELESS IGNITION NODE - (DUE TO A BIND, STICK OR SEIZE). 10/27/10 - REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY TO BE BINDING. 7/25/11 - PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TEST, FOUND A STORED CODE FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONCERN. REPLACED SENSOR. NO START ISSUE - THIS IS DEFINED AS TURNING THE KEY TO THE START POSITION BUT WOULD NOT CRANK. FUEL PUMP WOULD TURN ON AFTER A FEW SECONDS. ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE FINE. BATTERY WAS FULL STRENGTH. IN ALL OF THESE CASES, THE CAR WOULD START UP WITHOUT A PROBLEM WITHIN 24-48 HOURS AFTER THE NO-START INCIDENTS. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION RELATES TO A "NO START" ISSUE. EACH DATE IS A SEPARATE TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP. 5/30/11 - VEHICLE TOWED IN ON SATURDAY. SERVICE TECHNICIAN STARTED VEHICLE UP THREE TIMES ON MONDAY. LET SIT OVERNIGHT AND STARTED RIGHT UP ON TUESDAY. BATTERY TESTED FINE. NO CODES IN SYSTEM. 7/25/11 - DIAGNOSTIC SCAN, REPLACED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR (SEE STALLING) 7/26/11 - VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DUPLICATED NO-START ISSUE. REPLACED ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. SERVICE ADVISOR EXTREMELY CONFIDENT THAT THIS WAS THE ISSUE. *AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR TODAY, HE HAD TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD REPLACED SEVERAL WIRING HARNESSES ON THE 2007, 2008 G. CHEROKEES EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE SINCE MY SERVICE ON 7/26/11. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FOB DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE IGNITION AND WOULD NOT START; IT WOULD ALSO STALL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY START UNTIL THE COMPUTER SYSTEM REBOOTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER :08V059000 ( ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,334 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC THE INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD FIND NO FAILURE CODES. AFTER STALLING THREE TIMES THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY FOUND NO FAILURES BUT SHE COULD BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALL NHTSA 08V059000, FOR THE STALLING ISSUE BUT THE OWNERS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,038. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,750.
FRONT TIRES THREW INSIDE TREAD. 21,000 MILES ON TIRES. GOODYEAR DENIES LIABILITY. ALL CARS OF THIS MAKE(JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE SRT8) ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH OEM TIRES. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2008 JEEP SRT8 AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2009 IN FLORIDA WITH APPROX. 18900 MILES ON IT AND GOT A FULL CERTIFIED WARRANTY WITH IT. I DROVE IT TO MINNESOTA WHERE I LIVE AND DO NOT DRIVE IT MUCH AT ALL. I HAVE PUT AROUND 4900 MILES ON IT SINCE THEN AND AT BEST BUY PUTTING IN NEW HEADLIGHTS THEY TOLD ME MY FRONT TIRES TREAD WAS SEPARATING. I ALREADY HAD A APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP FIX THE LEAK IN MY ROOF FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE INSIDE TREAD ON BOTH OF MY FRONT TIRES WAS REALLY BAD AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID I SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT TILL IT GETS NEW TIRES. I WAS AT A DEALERSHIP ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE (FIXING LEAK) AND THEY DIDN'T MENTION IT AT ALL. IF THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T NOTICE IT HOW WOULD I? BEST BUY NOTICED IT AND THEY DON'T EVEN FIX JEEP SRT8S, WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT BLEW ON THE HIGHWAY? I AM NOT A HEAVY FOOT DRIVER, IT DRIVES PERFECTLY AND I HAVE NEVER HIT ANYTHING WITH THE CAR. LOOKING ONLINE IT SEEMS THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH EVERYONE WHO HAS A SRT8 SUV. I HAVE ALSO HAD MY AC UNIT REPLACED, AND TAILLIGHT REWIRED, AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE,ESP BAS LIGHT IN DASH FIXED. WHEN BRINGING IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT FIXED, IT SEEMS LIKE ITS THE FIRST ONE THEY HAVE EVER SEEN, AND JUST ASSUME THAT ITS MY DRIVING THAT CAUSES THIS. I HAVE ONLY SEEN 2 OTHER JEEP SRT8 IN REAL LIFE AND MOST SHOP PEOPLE I TALK TO HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE DRIVING LET ALONE WORKED ON ONE AND KNOWS THE PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE DEALERSHIP BLAMES THE ALIGNMENT CAUSED IT SINCE THE BALL BEARINGS WERE FINE TO THEM.THE REAR TIRES ARE FINE ON THE VEHICLE JUST THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT AND CANT FIND ANYONE THAT CAN EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE DOING THIS. I PAID 586 DOLLARS TO GET 2 OF THE SAME FACTORY TIRES WITH ALIGNMENT. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW TIRES AND THE ALIGNMENT FOR IT. I THINK GOODYEAR AND JEEP NO THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES AND THEY ARE STILL MAKING US PAY FOR IT WHEN ITS THERE FAULT. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 65-70 MPH ON APRIL 27,2009 THE RADIO WENT OUT, THE ODOMETER WENT BLANK AND I LOST POWER STEERING. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PLACED STICK SHIFT IN PARK AND IT STARTED UP.. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP MILEAGE WAS 5166. DEALERSHIP SCANNED SYSTEM AND NO ACTIVE AND NO STORED TROUBLE CLODES WERE FOUND. WAS TOLD THIS WAS FLUKE. THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. VEHICLE STALLED A SECOND TIME WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT APPROX 5 -10 MPH. (SAME THING HAPPENED AS STATED ABOVE). PLACED STICK SHIFT IN NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED UP. DROVE STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP. MILEAGE APPROX 29,500. DEALERSHIP SCANNED SYSTEM AND NO ACTIVE AND NO STORED TROUBLE CLODES WERE FOUND. THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. I INSISTED THAT THE DEALERSHIP KEEP THE JEEP TO DO ADDITIONAL TESTING. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING. I ALSO MENTIONED THE RECALL BELOW AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN # WAS NOT APART OF THIS RECALL. AUTO RECALL DATE: 02/06/2008 VEHICLE COMPONENT: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ESTIMATED VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1338 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DEFECT SUMMARY: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 1,338 MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND COMMANDER VEHICLES. THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED. DEFECT CONSEQUENCE: THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING OR NOT TO START AND/OR CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. ENGINE STALLING OR INOPERATIVE WIPERS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. *TR

THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWING THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 21,005.
TIRE TREAD SEPARATED AT 13,000 MILES CAUSING VIBRATION AT 65+ MPH. WILL REPLACE FRONT TIRES AND KEEP OLD TIRES. *TR
MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS LOST POWER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, EACH TIME BEING ABOUT A WEEK APART. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 70 MPH AND I NOTICED ALL OF MY CONTROLS HAD GONE BLACK, I HAD NO ODOMETER, NO RADIO, NO A/C, MY CAR HAD COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THE SECOND TIME WAS PULLING OUT OF A STORE PARKING LOT, CROSSING TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH. AGAIN, I LOST POWER BUT WAS STILL ABLE TO COME TO A STOP, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART IT. AFTER THIS, I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES ON MY CAR. AS I WAS LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AND STOPPED ATA RED LIGHT DOWN THE STREET, I AGAIN LOST POWER. THIS TIME I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED AND THEN BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. AGAIN, THEY DID NOTHING. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR DID NOT SHOW UP WITH ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS, HOWEVER I DID SEE A RECALL ON MY MODEL YEAR FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS ABOUT 22,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS RUN PERFECTLY UP UNTIL NOW. *TR

TURN SIGNALS BECAME INOPERATIVE. A/C BECAME INOPERATIVE, HAZARD LIGHTS INOPERATIVE, FUEL GAUGE INOPERATIVE, TACHOMETER INOPERATIVE, SPEEDOMETER INOPERATIVE. CONSEQUENCES: RISK OF ACCIDENT DUE TO DISTRACTION BY WARNING TONE AND ALL INDICATOR LAMPS LIGHTING SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. RISK OF ACCIDENT DUE TO INOPERATIVE TURN INDICATOR SIGNALS AND INOPERATIVE HAZARDS. UNKNOWN WHETHER ABS SYSTEM WORKING SINCE ABS WARNING LAMP WAS LIT. UNKNOWN WHETHER AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS OPERATIONAL SINCE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP WAS LIT (3) SHUT OFF ENGINE AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES RESTARTED - NO CHANGE ALL LAMPS LIT. LEFT TURN SIGNAL REMAINED LIT BUT NOT FLASHING EVEN WITH KEY OFF. CALLED JEEP DEALER SERVICE SUGGESTED PULLING IOD RELAY. NO IMPROVEMENT. 2 MORE RESTARTS WITH EXTENDED (MORE THAN 1 HOUR) VEHICLE OFF AND ALL LIGHTS CLEARED EXCEPT CHECK ENGINE. DO NOT KNOW CAUSE OF PROBLEM YET. WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON AN OPEN ROAD AT ABOUT 55MPH WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD SOUND LIKE A MUFFLED GUNSHOT OVER OUR HEADS. NO OTHER TRAFFIC WAS IN SIGHT AND THERE WAS NOTHING OVERHEAD. WHEN WE PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE, WE NOTED THAT THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED AND "POOCHED" UP, YET INTACT. NOTHING STRUCK THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS NOT IMPACTED FROM BELOW. WE DROVE IT TO THE NEAREST DEALER WE COULD FIND WITH THE NAV UNIT A FEW MILES AWAY. WE WERE MET WITH HOSTILITY AND BASICALLY CALLED LIARS BY THE SERVICE STAFF WHEN WE TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE DEALERS SHOP AWAITING A NEW SUNROOF. WE HAVE HAD OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS BEFORE AND HAVE HAD NO ISSUES. OTHER THAN THIS INCIDENT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN A JOY TO OWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, A RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM UNDER THE ARMREST OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. *TR
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - I HAVE HAD SURFBOARDS CAUSE THE FACTORY ROOF RACK TO ACTUALLY TEAR THROUGH THE METAL ROOF DUE TO HAVING NO REINFORCEMENT AROUND THE BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE FACTORY ROOF RACK TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THIS OCCURRED ON THE NJ GARDEN STATE PARKWAY AT LEGAL PARKWAY SPEED. HAD MY TWO SURFBOARDS GONE THROUGH SOMEONE'S WINDSHIELD IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DEADLY ACCIDENT. I HAVE SURFED FOR 45 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER CAR. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT THEY SHOULD TAKE NOTICE FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION TO CHRYSLER BUT THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN DOING SO. CHRYSLER HAS PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE FAILURE AS THEY HAD TO GET APPROVAL TO COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DID REPAIR THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REINFORCED WITH LARGER WASHERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT PART OF THE RACKS, BUT I DO NOT HAVE PROOF THAT THEY DID AND I DO NOT TRUST THEM. I NOW STRAP MY BOARDS BOTH TO THE RACK AND A SAFETY STRAP THROUGH THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. CHRYSLER HAS TV ADS THAT SHOW SURFBOARDS MOUNTED ON THE FACTORY RACKS OF THEIR VEHICLES. WHICH IS IMPLIED ACCEPTABLE USE. THIS MAY BE COMMON PRACTICE WITH ALL MANUFACTURERS, BUT IT IS IN FACT A PRACTICE ON THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE WOULD APPLY TO ANY OBJECT ON THE ROOF THAT WOULD BE SIMILAR TO A SURFBOARD; CANOES, KAYAKS, STORAGE PODS. *TR

WHEN ENGINE SHUTS DOWN YOU LOSE THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. IF IT WERE TO STALL WHILE MAKING AN ABRUPT TURN IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. TRUCK HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER NOW FOR A WEEK AND IT HAS THEM "BAFFLED". THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS NOT LOGGING ANY MALFUNCTION RELATED TO THE STALL. IN ORDER TO RESTART THE TRUCK YOU NEED TO PLACE THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE TRUCK WILL START UP IMMEDIATELY AND COULD RUN FINE FOR AS FAR AS 20 MILES OR AS LITTLE AS 20 FEET. I FIND IT RATHER ODD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 1338 VEHICLES IN EARLY 2008 WHERE FAULTY MODULES COULD LEAD TO VEHICLES STALLING WHILE DRIVING. IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF THE ISSUE WAS TRULY CONTAINED. MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (5.8L) HAS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WHERE THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR 9 MOUNTS, AND 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM OCCURS IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS, AND IS NOT REPEATABLE. SOMETIMES ENGINE SHUTS OFF VERY BRIEFLY (~.25 SECOND) AND PICKS UP WITH JUST A 'HICCOUGH' IN NORMAL OPERATION, SOMETIMES ENGINE SHUTS OFF FOR > 2 SECONDS, AND I NEED TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, AND RE-ENGAGE THE KEY TO START THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT RANDOM TIMES (ON CRUISE CONTROL ON STRAIGHT, FLAT HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, IDLING AT STOP LIGHT, ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC, SLOWING FOR EXIT RAMP). SOMETIMES I WILL DRIVE FOR HUNDREDS OF MILES WITHOUT AN OCCURRENCE, SOMETIMES THE ENGINE CUTS OUT 5 TIMES IN A 5 MILE DRIVE. PROBLEM IS NOT REPEATABLE, AND NOT PREDICTABLE. *TR

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18152 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18160.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND HITTING A SMALL BUMP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE CONTACTS THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT. THIS IS NOT EASILY DETECTED UPON STOPPING AND RESTARTING IT STOPS. AND THEN AGAIN WHEN A BUMP IS HIT IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE TO REROUTE THE CABLE. I WAS INFORMED WHILE THE REROUTING THAT THE CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS CHARGED FOR A NEW CABLE AND LABOR. I BELIEVE IF THE DEALER AND JEEP KNOW THE CABLE MUST BE REROUTED IT MIGHT BE ROUTED WRONG FROM THE FACTORY. I HAVE CHECKED WITH A FLEET MANAGER OF A LARGE MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPT THAT HAS APROX 300 2008 JEEPS, THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON APROX 50 VEHICLES THAT ARE IN THERE FLEET.THEY WERE TOLD BY JEEP TO REROUTE AND WIRE TIE THE CABLE IN PLACE. I DID NOT UNFORTUNATE ASK FOR THE USED PART BE RETURNED TO ME. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V059000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,900.

AS I WAS DRIVING THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR LITERALLY EXPLODED. THE ROADS WERE CLEAR AND FREE OF DEBRIS AND I SWERVED OFF THE ROAD AS I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD THROWN A ROCK OR A BALL AT MY WINDOW. I QUICKLY GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND NOTICED A GAPING HOLE THROUGH THE MIRROR BUT NO OTHER DAMAGE TO ANY OTHER PART OF THE VEHICLE. NO SCRATCHES WERE ON THE MIRROR OR THE CAR BUT THERE WAS A GREENLIQUID FROM INSIDE THE MIRROR LOOSELY SCATTERED IN SMALL SPOTS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT WAS THE SAME GREEN LIQUID PRESENT IN GREATER AMOUNTS WITHIN THE MIRROR. IT WAS CLEAR THE MIRROR MALFUNCTIONED AND IMPLODED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GOT THE VEHICLE AND CHRYSLER CORPORATE HEADQUARTERED AND THEY SAID SUCH A DEFECT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INJURY AS I RAN OFF THE ROAD I HEARD THE BANG AND MIRROR EXPLODED. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEWER MODEL USED VEHICLE THAT HAS STARTED TO PRESENT SOME SERIOUS CONCERNS THAT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND DISCOUNTS MY COMPLAINT. 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 4.7L FLEXFUEL EXTREMELY SLUGGISH ON THROTTLE DEMAND (305 HP ???!!!), HARSH TRANSMISSION UP/DOWN SHIFT AND STALLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (FOUR OCCURRENCES WITHIN FIVE WEEKS) . THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE FEBRUARY 2008 RECALL OF THE FCM (FRONT CONTROL MODULE) AFTER BEING DIRECTED BY THE CUSTOMER TO DO SO SINCE THE SERIAL # ON THE MODULE MATCHED THE "WRONGLY MANUFACTURED" ONES; HOWEVER, THE VIN SEARCH WITHIN CHRYSLER RECALL DATABASE RETURNED EMPTY. EVIDENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP OWNING THE NEW VEHICLE AT THE DATE OF THE RECALL NEVER PERFORMED IT (AS REQUIRED BY LAW) . THE INCIDENT REPEATED AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FCM. THE DEALERSHIP RETRIEVED AN ABS FAULT CODE HENCE DECIDED THAT THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) IS DEFECTIVE???!!! ( SEVEN DAYS ON BACK ORDER) "LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY" SEEMS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED BY IGNORING OF THE DRIVER'S SAFETY. THE SOFTWARE RUNNING ON THE PCM SHOULD NEVER BE GIVEN THE CHOICE OF IMMEDIATELY SHUTTING OFF OF THE ENGINE ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE TRAVELS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. MODERN STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS ARE ALMOST NON-OPERATIONAL WHEN THERE IS NO AVAILABLE ASSISTING POWER. *TR

IN JULY 09, AFTER GOING THROUGH A TOLL AT EXIT 67 BARNEGET TOLL , GARDEN STATE PARKWAY,NJ, I ACCELERATED TO THE MERGE POINT AND VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND ENGINE STALLED AND LOST POWER. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART DIDN'T WORK. SEEMS LIKE IT SHUT DOWN ELECTRICALLY AND WAS NOT GETTING GAS ADEQUATELY. SEEMS TO LACK ADEQUATE POWER. ATTEMPT TO START SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO LUCK, ENGINE WOULDN'T STAY RUNNING, LONG START-UP INCONSISTENT, DASH LIGHTS DID COME ON TO INFORM OF NO POWER. LET SIT TO COOL DOWN VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO START AND MOVE TO A MORE SAFER LOCATION. THIS WAS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE AND THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS 90 F AND SUNNY. THIS OCCURRED AT 15000 MILES IN JULY 09. VEHICLE WENT TO 3 SERVICE VISITS AND DEALERS COULD NOT REPEAT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER, TURN SIGNALS, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD FAIL SPORADICALLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ANY OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.

SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES , BUT THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT IDENTIFY A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,098. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
