TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE AND RETURNING TO IT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SHIFTED INDEPENDENTLY INTO REVERSE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56.
WHILE DRIVING THE 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON CRUISE CONTROL, I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID A TRAFFIC SITUATION. I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING. IT DID NOT ENGAGE TO SPEED UP EVEN THOUGH I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND STEPPED ON IT AGAIN, HOPING IT WAS A FLUKE, BUT STILL NO ACCELERATION. IT DID MAINTAIN THE SET CRUISE SPEED OF 65 MPH. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 SECONDS OR MORE BEFORE THE ACCELERATOR FINALLY ENGAGED. I HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE EARLIER IN THE WEEK FOR ONE 8 HOUR STRAIGHT AND TWO 3 HOUR STRAIGHT TRIPS WITH NO ISSUE. ON THIS TRIP I HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE FOR 5 HOURS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. STOPPED AND RESTED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND THEN PROCEEDED TO COMPLETE MY TRIP. ABOUT 3 HOURS INTO THIS LAST LEG IS WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT HASN'T HAPPENED BEFORE OR SINCE (YET). I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE ARE MANY TIMES A BRIEF, SECOND OR SECOND AND ONE HALF DELAY FROM WHEN I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR BEFORE THE ACCELERATOR ENGAGES. THIS IS SPORADIC AND DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM. THE SALESMAN AND THE GENERAL MANAGER INDICATED THEY HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM FROM OTHER OWNERS. I UNDERSTOOD THIS IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRA AND ASSUMED IT TO BE RELATED TO THE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION PROCESS AS COMPARED TO THE OLD CABLE ACCELERATION LINKAGE IN YEARS PAST. I HAD IN FACT UPDATED THE SOFTWARE RELATED TO THE RECENT RECALL THROUGH THE UCONNECT WEB SITE, AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE THIS EVENT.
ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO THE NHTSA HAD ISSUED AN ADVISORY BULLETIN SUGGESTING THAT AUTOMAKERS REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ONBOARD INFO SYSTEMS DUE TO DISTRACTED DRIVERS, IN THE MEANTIME MORE COMPLEX SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BY SAID AND WITH THE MOST RECENT HACKING OF THE ONBOARD ECM'S AS WELL AS DRIVING CONTROLS, I QUESTION WILL YOU POSSIBLY FOLLOW THROUGH WITH A MANDATE TO CEASE THESE SYSTEMS FROM BEING INSTALLED SEEING THAT HACKERS THROUGH THE BLUETOOTH SYSTEMS ALSO ONBOARD BE ELIMINATED TO STOP POSSIBLE HORRIFIC ACCIDENTS FROM HAPPENING. I UNDERSTAND THAT MANY ARE NOW ISSUING NEW SOFTWARE UPDATES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING, HOWEVER HACKERS HAVE " BACKDOOR METHODS " TO STILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS A CARS SYSTEM AND WITH ALL THE CYBER CRIME TAKING PLACE TODAY , THE ELIMINATION OF THESE SYSTEMS WOULD BE A SURE FIRE WAY TO STOP IT. A GOING BACK TO A MORE SIMPLER TIME WHEN THESE ISSUES DIDN'T EXIST SAY PRE 2003 STANDARDS. AS A CONCERNED CONSUMER I AM VERY WORRIED THAT SOME VERY BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AND PUT MY FAMILY ( AS WELL AS OTHERS ) AT GREAT RISK. I WOULD IMPLORE YOU TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER STOPPING THESE SYSTEMS FROM BEING INSTALLED IN ANY NEWER CARS THAT ARE PLANNED FOR RELEASE, YOU TIMELY DECISION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED , THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME *TR
I WAS SOLD A NEW 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH AN OPEN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE (RECALL R38).
AIR SUSPENSION ON REAR NOT FUNCTIONAL. AIR BAGS COMPLETELY EMPTY. NO WARNING WITHIN DASH DISPLAY.
THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT KNOB IS DIFFICULT TO USE AND DOES NOT GO INTO INTENDED GEAR OR PARK EASILY. OFTEN I WILL STOP THE CAR, SHIFT INTO PARK, AND FIND THAT THE CAR STILL MOVES AFTER I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE ... TURNS OUT ITS NOT ACTUALLY IN PARK. THERE IS NO INTUITIVE WAY TO FEEL THAT THE SHIFTER IS FIRMLY IN THE PARK POSITION. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION. SAME APPLIES WITH THE BUTTON/KNOB TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IF I AM STOPPED AND PUSH IT, IT SEEMS LIKE IT SHOULD PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT OFF IT DOES NOT. I HAVE PARKED THE CAR AND BEGUN TO EXIT ON AT LEAST 10 OCCASIONS WHEN THE CAR MOVED.OTHER DRIVERS THAT HAVE BORROWED MY CAR HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. THIS IS MY 8TH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT I HAVE OWNED OR LEASED ... I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE PRIOR VEHICLES. IT IS DANGEROUS.
WE, TOO, HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE MONOSTABLE ELECTRONIC (E-SHIFT) GEARSHIFT IN OUR 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ONE OF THE CRITICAL MOVEMENTS IS WHEN YOU ARE IN A BUSY MALL, RESTAURANT OR OTHER VENUE'S PARKING AREAS. OFTEN, WHEN TRYING TO BACK OUT, WE SUDDENLY SEE A CAR APPROACHING AND TRY TO GET THE CAR BACK INTO FORWARD ('D'). THERE IS FREQUENTLY AN OVERSHOOT WITH THE SHIFTER AND WE WIND UP IN 'P' OR 'N' RATHER THAN THE DESIRED 'D' OR 'S.' SINCE WE ARE DISTRACTED WATCHING AND TRYING TO AVOID THE OTHER VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT ANNUNCIATOR INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE OF NO USE AND JUST BY FEEL, WE CAN'T TELL WHERE WE ARE IN THE DIRECTION MODES. ALSO, WHEN TRYING TO GET INTO ANY MODE, IT IS OFTEN ANOTHER OVERSHOOT IN WHICH WE WIND UP, MAKING FOR A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND, AT BEST, A FRUSTRATING EVENT. THIS SYSTEM IS VERY IMPRECISE AND CONFUSING. THE DESIGN AND ENGINEERING OF THIS SYSTEM, IN MY OPINION, IS INITIALLY DEFECTIVE IN THE ERGONOMICS ALONE AND A MASSIVE FAIL IN ITS EXECUTION. WE HAVE PUT THE VEHICLE IN WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS 'P' AND, YET, WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE, THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD BECAUSE IT WAS STILL IN 'D.' I MENTIONED THIS UNSETTLING SITUATIONS TO THE DEALER AT LEAST ONCE AND DEBRIEFED THIS SITUATION THREE TIMES DURING ANSWERING THE SURVEYS WE RECEIVED OVER A PERIOD OF TIME FOLLOWING OUR PURCHASE. APPARENTLY, OTHERS HAVE ALSO DONE SO. IT HAS TAKEN A HIGH VISIBILITY ACCIDENT TO GET THE FCA COMPANY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM; WHILE THEY STILL MAINTAIN IT IS NOT THEIR DESIGN, BUT OUR INADVERTENTY ERRONEOUS OPERATIONS.

NO ONE AT NHTSA CARES, I HAVE TIED INSTANT MESSAGE AND PHONE... THE RECALL 15V-461 HAS AN INCORRECT WEB ADDRESS, AND EVEN IF YOU DO GET TO THE SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD, IT IS NOT SOMETING THAT THE AVERAGE CONSUMER CAN LOAD. THE UCONNECT WEBSITE REQUIRES YOU TO TURN OFF YOUR SECURITY SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER TO DOWN LOAD, AND THEN THE STEPS FOR UPLADING TO THE VHEICAL ARE INSANE.
THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT LATCH IS NOT FLEXIBLE AT AN ANGLE BELOW THE SEAT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT. EVEN IF THE SEAT BELT IS FORCED TO LATCH, THE BELT STUCK IN THE CORNER OF THE BUCKLE UNLESS YOU ADJUST TO THE RIGHT ANGLE TO TIGHTEN THE BELT. THIS IS TOTALLY NOT SAFE TO ANY PASSENGER (ESPECIALLY ANY CHILD). OVER TIME THE SEAT BELT ALSO GETS WRINKLE FROM STUCK IN THE CORNER OF THE BUCKLE AND IT DOES NOT ROLL BACK BY ITSELF. I SAW SOMEONE ASKED THE JEEP DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM ONLINE BUT THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER TO PURCHASE A SEATBELT EXTENSION. I DO NOT THINK IT IS FAIR OR A SAFE FUTURE TO ANY JEEP CONSUMER. I'M HOPING JEEP CAN RESOLVE THE BELT BUCKLE OR WRINKLE BELT ISSUES.
THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR. HAVE BEEN ONLY TWO WEEKS WITH ME. BACK DOOR DOES NOT OPEN MOST OF THE TIME. I BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IS SOMETHING WITH THE PROGRAM, AND THEY FIXED IT, BUT BEFORE GETTING THE CAR OUTSIDE FROM THE DEALER IT DOES THE SAME FAILURE 3 MORE TIMES. IS THE SECOND CAR IN LESS THAN A MONTH, SINCE THE FIRST ONE I BUYED PRESENT FAILURES TOO. THE FIRST ONE WAS THE SAME MODEL AND STAR TO PRESENTS PROBLEMS TURNING ON. DEALER CHANGE IT SAYING THERE ARE SOME DAMAGES AND AFTER TWO WEEKS OF HAVING THIS NEW ONE, THE PROBLEM WITH THE BACK DOOR BEGAN. IT MAY OPEN ONE DAY AND THE OTHER NOT OR DURING THE DAY. DOES NOT OPEN TRAYING THE BEEPER, THE BOTTOM INSIDE THE CAR OR MANUALLY.
HEADLIGHTS RANDOMLY BLINK AT NORMAL OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE IN MOTION, SOMETIMES DURING PARK MODE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IT BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEELS ROLLED OVER THE CONTACT'S LEGS. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V240000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.
AFTER OWNING MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FASTER THAN 40 MPH, THE RPMS WERE GOING UP BUT NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED ON THE GAS THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMPUTER ISSUE AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR DID THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET, NOT ACCELERATING FASTER THAN ABOUT 20MPH AND THE RPMS GOING UP. THE CAR ALSO STARTED DOWNSHIFTING HARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP. ONCE I STARTED DRIVING AFTER COMING TO A STOP THE CAR ALSO FELT LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING HARD INTO GEAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THE COMPLAINT COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. SO A COMPUTER UPDATE WAS DONE AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED OK FOR A FEW MONTHS AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS NOT A CONSTANT ONE SO DUPLICATING IT WILL BE HARD. IT IS RANDOM AND DOES NOT SEEM TO HAPPEN AT ANY SPECIFIC TIME. IT HAPPENED TWICE WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF I CAN NOT ACCELERATE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM CHANGING LANES. IN TOTAL I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN 4 TIMES WITHIN 2 YEARS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ONCE OR TWICE I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID FEEL THE HARD SHIFTING WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER STOPPING BUT ALL THAT WAS DONE WAS A COMPUTER UPDATE. MY FEAR IS HAVING AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY IF I CAN NOT ACCELERATE. SOMETIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP IT SHIFTS SO HARD IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE A HARD POPPING NOISE. AT THIS POINT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, MY CAR HAS 25,000 AND IS NOW 26 MONTHS OLD, THE WARRANTY WILL EXPIRE IN ABOUT 10 MOS OR 36,000 AND THEN I AM SURE THE PROBLEM WILL BE FOUND & IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE TRANSMISSION AND COST ME SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS!! I CONTACTED JEEP CORP OFFICE 800-992-1997 AND WAS TOLD TRY TO OPEN A STARCASE SO THE "SPECIAL MECHANICS" CAN LOOK AT IT, WHY AREN'T ALL THE MECH SPECIAL??
PULLING AWAY FROM TRAFFIC LIGHT, TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO BE STUCK IN EITHER FIRST OR SECOND GEAR, AND WOULD NOT SHIFT TO ANOTHER GEAR. ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE (GOT UP TO 20MPH) RESULTED IN THE ENGINE OVER REVVING AND THE OIL PRESSURE TO EXCEED 90 POUNDS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. AFTER TURNING OFF VEHICLE AND LETTING IT SIT FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, DROVE THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. WILL BE TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR.
I HAVE HAD TRANSMISSIONS ISSUES WITH MY 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE FROM THE FIRST WEEK I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE HAD MY JEEP INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUES SEVERAL TIMES NOW. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSIONS ONCE, UPDATED THE FIRMWARE A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND ARE NOW JUST TELLING ME "THAT'S THE WAY IT IS" AND THAT I WILL JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSIONS JERKS INTO GEAR A TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER A NEAR STOP (SPINS THE TIRES SOMETIMES WHEN IT 'CLUNKS' INTO GEAR), SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AT TIMES AND 'CLUNKS' BACK IN (WHEN TRAVELING AROUND 40 MPH USUALLY), AND HAS ALSO JUST QUIT FUNCTIONING ALL TOGETHER WHILE TRYING TO ENTER A FREEWAY (HAD TO PULL OVER AND STOP/START CAR TO GET THE TRANSMISSION BACK). EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR ONE OF THESE ISSUES CAN BE OBSERVED. I AM A VERY DISPLEASED LONG TIME JEEP OWNER..
JEEP WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD REMAINED THERE OVERNIGHT. MY HUSBAND AUTOSTARTED THE CAR USING THE KEYFOB FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE. MY SISTER WAS BEHIND THE CAR AS SHE WAS GOING TO GET HER BAG OUT OF THE TRUNK. THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE IN REVERSE (ON OUR FLAT DRIVEWAY) AND PINNED HER BETWEEN THE JEEP AND THE CAR BEHIND HER. THE JEEP DID NOT STOP MOVING UNTIL SOMEONE JUMPED IN THE CAR AND HIT THE BRAKES. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE BEHIND THE JEEP WAS IN HIS CAR. HE WAS ABLE TO BACK UP BUT THE JEEP WAS MOVING FAST ENOUGH TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO HIS CAR. THE CAR APPEARED TO BE IN REVERSE, NOT JUST IN NEUTRAL. MY SISTER'S PATELLA WAS FRACTURED. A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE VEHICLE STATING THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE THAT THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EXITED. HOWEVER, THE JEEP WAS CLEARLY IN PARK BECAUSE WE WERE ABLE TO AUTOSTART THE VEHICLE USING THE KEYFOB.
TL* THE CONTACT RENTED A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A SLOPE, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A METAL POST AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,500.
JULY 2 2015 -BETWEEN 5:10 - 5:30 AM SOUTHBOUND 25 JUST PRIOR TO EXIT 217B FULL MOON NO RAIN / NO MOISTURE / NO ROAD DEBRIS AT TIME OF ACCIDENT NO JEEP INDICATOR LIGHTS / WARNING - NO UCONNECT MESSAGES NO RUSH HOUR / NO TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE / NO CONSTRUCTION. LEFT LANE WITH NO SHOULDER BUT WITH A CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION WALL. WE WERE DRIVING WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC (POSTED SPEED LIMIT 65, AND WE DROVE WITH THE SAME TRAFFIC IN OUR LANE WAS TRAVELING AT 67, AND WE WERE APPROX 'AT LEAST' 2 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND THE SILVER MAZDA). TWO CARS AHEAD OF US, I SAW BRAKING TAILLIGHTS, AND I PRESSED ON OUR BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO SEEING THE BRAKING LIGHTS ON THE SECOND CAR THAT WAS IN FRONT US - NOT BECAUSE OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF US - MAZDA HAD NOT ENGAGED THEIR BRAKES AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME).WITHIN SECONDS AFTER I RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE JEEP CONTINUED FORWARD AT A SLIGHTLY SLOWER SPEED, AND IT WAS THEN THE MAZDA CAME TO AN ABRUPT AND COMPLETE STOP, THAT I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE BRAKES (*MEANING THERE WAS NO SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE IN THE FORWARD MOTION I THEN ADDED ADDITIONAL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH NO CHANGE NO ENGAGEMENT OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I RECEIVED THIS EMAIL THE SAME MORNING AFTER THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED. ALERT: YOUR 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS INDICATED THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT REQUIRES YOUR ATTENTION.HIS VEHICLE HEALTH ALERT HAS BEEN SENT TO NOTIFY YOU THAT AS OF 07/02/2015 AT 08:42AM EST, ATTENTION IS REQUIRED FOR ONE ISSUE. BRAKES & SUSPENSION ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING LIGHT YOUR VEHICLE'S ABS WARNING LIGHT RECENTLY INDICATED THE ANTILOCK PORTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING. IF THE ABS WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON OR TURNS ON WHILE DRIVING, THE CONVENTIONAL BRAKE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE NORMALLY UNLESS THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT IS ON. THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT DOES NOT HAVE INTUITIVE, DETENTE OR POSITIVE GEAR POSITIONS. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT APPEARS THAT THE ACC BALL (RADAR/CAMERA/THE THING THAT LOOKS LIKE THE EYE BALL ON THE FRONT BUMPER) HAD CORROSION AND ALL WIRES WERE SHOT. I WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 MPH. I PRESSED THE MINUS SHIFT PADDLE TO SLOW DOWN BUT IT DIDN'T SHIFT DOWN LOW ENOUGH TO SLOW ME DOWN. I THEN PUSHED THE START BUTTON WHICH WAS STILL IN RUN AND THE BUTTON INDICATED OFF. I THEN PUSHED THE START BUTTON AND THE ENGINE STARTED AS NORMAL WITH NORMAL POWER AND I CONTINUED BACK ON MY TRIP TO MOBILE ALABAMA WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM AND ALL OWNERS OF MY MODEL OF JEEP SHOULD BE WARNED NOT TO USE THE SHIFT PADDLES WHEN IN CRUISE CONTROL. THE OWNERS MANUAL HAS NO WARNINGS. I THINK THIS CONTROL SYSTEM SOFTWARE SHOULD LOCKOUT THE PADDLE SHIFT CAPABILITY WHEN IN CRUISE CONTROL OR IF THE SPEED OF VEHICLE COULD CAUSE OVER REVVING OF THE ENGINE BY DOWN SHIFTING. MAYBE A MECHANICAL MAX RPM SWITCH ON THE ENGINE WOULD BE BETTER THAN COMPUTER SOFTWARE TO LIMIT ENGINE REVS. THIS PERHAPS WOULD ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL FOR DANGER WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE AS IT DID FOR ME.
THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATES ON THE HIGHWAY FOR REASON. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THEY CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. TRYING TO GET IN FURTHER, HER LEFT FOOT AND WHOLE LEFT LEG BUCKLED UNDERNEATH AND BEHIND HER AND SHE COULD NOT THEN USE HER LEFT FOOT TO HOIST HERSELF INTO THE CAR. SO SHE GRABBED THE SHIFT THINKING SHE HAD TO PUT IT BACK INTO PARK BUT COULD NOT SEE TO CONFIRM AND ALSO TRIED TO PUSH THE IGNITION 'OFF' BUTTON BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING EVEN THOUGH SHE PUSHED THE OFF BUTTON AS HER RIGHT FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. AFTER THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED SHE THEN SHE FELL BACK ONTO THE GROUND TRYING TO RECOVER HER LOST FOOTING (LEFT FOOT AND LEG) AND THEN ROLLED OVER TO GET BACK UP ON HER FEET AND THEN SAT IN THE CAR TO CHECK THAT IT WAS IN PARK AGAIN (THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING). SHE THEN SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND WITH INTENSE PAIN HOBBLED TO THE HOUSE SCREAMING IN PAIN WHILE CALLING OUT TO ME. AFTER SHE WAS LATER ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM, HAD X-RAYS AND A CT SCAN IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT HER LEFT KNEE INJURY AND LEG PAIN WAS DUE TO A FRACTURED KNEE FROM THIS INCIDENT. ..UPDATED 05/02/16 *BF *CN
AS THE OWNER OF A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I FIND THAT THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTER IS A PROBLEM AREA. IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL WHERE THE SELECTOR IS WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE INDICATOR. YOU THINK IT IS IN DRIVE AND ITS IN NEUTRAL,AND YOU WOULD BE UNABLE TO MAKE A MOVE QUICKLY IN AN ACCIDENT SITUATION (LIKE THE WOMAN IN THE MERCEDES ML HIT BY A TRAIN IN NY). WORSE YOU THINK IT IS IN PARK AND YOU WANT TO GET OUT WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING, SAY TO GET THE MAIL OUT OF MY MAIL BOX, ONLY TO FIND OUT IT IS REVERSE AND STARTS TO MOVE AS YOU GO TO GET OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE 2016 IS SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS, PERHAPS GOING BACK TO THE MECHANICAL SYSTEM WHICH IS DEFINITIVE. THAT FIX OUGHT TO BE RETROFITTED TO THE 2014 AND 2015 MODELS. OTHER THAN THIS ISSUE THE 2015 DIESEL GC IS ONE FANTASTIC VEHICLE.
A WEEK PRIOR TO THE MAJOR ISSUE THE VEHICLE WAS SHOWING SIGNS OF MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. THESE PROBLEMS INCLUDED THE WIPERS TURNING ON WHEN THEY WERE IN THE OFF POSITION, SIMULTANEOUSLY THE RADIO CUT OUT (THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THAT DAY). THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AT 6:30AM THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND DOORS BLINKED ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT DAY BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT AWAY. FOUR DAYS AFTER THIS ALL STARTED I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOING ABOUT 40 MPH AND SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 10-15 MPH TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT, I WENT TO GIVE THE CAR GAS TO COMPLETE MY TURN AND REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD LOST POWER. I COASTED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND LOOKED DOWN AT THE EVIC SCREEN TO REALIZE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL WITHOUT MY DOING AND WOULD NOT RESTART ITSELF. MANY MECHANICAL LIGHTS WERE POPPING UP ON THE EVIC SCREEN, WHICH I TOOK PICTURES OF FOR RECORDS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT DAY.HOWEVER I AM SCARED THAT IF THEY "FIX" IT , IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. ON MONDAY 3/16/15: THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE WIPER/RADIO ISSUE WAS FIXED WITH AN "UPDATE" BUT THE MASTER TECH THAT WORKS FOR THE DEALERSHIP REQUESTED TO DRIVE MY CAR HOME WITH HIM TO MAKE SURE THE PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A TECH TAKING HOME A CAR BEFORE BUT I AGREED TO LET HIM SINCE I FEEL I AM AT THE HANDS OF JEEPS MERCY IN FIXING THIS ISSUE. I AM VERY DISPLEASED THAT A JGC DEPENDING ON THE MODEL WORTH $40-70K HAS MANY COMPLAINTS LOADED AGAINST THEM WITH LITTLE END IN SIGHT OF THE COMPANY WANTING TO RESOLVE THESE COMPLAINTS. I REFUSE TO PUT MY SAFETY AND OTHERS SAFETY IN JEOPARDY! THIS COMPANY KNOWS SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THEIR CARS AND THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT BUT KEEP SAYING ITS A "SOFTWARE UPDATE". WHEN DRIVING AT APPROX 25 MILES AN HOUR THE CAR SEEMED TO CHANGE GEAR AND CAUSE A JERKING AND JOLTING MOTION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WITH MY FOOT STEADY ON THE GAS, AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED HARD (8 SPEED AUTOMATIC) AND LUNGED MY CAR FORWARD WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. THEN IT CONTINUED TO SHIFT HARD AND LUNGE UNTIL I REACHED AND MAINTAINED 40 MPH ( IN WHICH MY JEEP PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO 8TH GEAR AT A STEADY 1000 RPM). THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I REMOTE START THE JEEP, IT WILL GIVE OFF A VERY LOUD HIGH PITCHED WHINING SOUND FOR ABOUT A MINUTE, THEN STOPS. *TR
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND SHORTLY AFTER THIS THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THERE WAS ROUGHLY 1/4 TANK OF FUEL WHEN THIS OCCURRED. NO LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT , ENGINE ROUGHNESS OR OTHER SYMPTOMS WERE NOTED PRIOR TO ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN. VEHICLE COASTED TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WOULD CRANK BUT NOT FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND NO ISSUES WAS FOUND. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ~1 WEEK LATER WITH COMMENTS FROM DEALER TECH THAT NO ISSUES WERE FOUND AND IT WILL LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL DOES NOT MOVE INTO PARK WHEN SELECTED WITHOUT MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. OTHERWISE THE TRANSMISSION IS LEFT IN REVERSE. THE SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REDESIGNED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SHIFTER WOULD ERRONEOUSLY SHIFT OUT OF GEAR AND A HUM WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. ALSO, THE DISPLAY PANEL CHANGED FROM DRIVE AND DISPLAYED A STRAIGHT LINE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND REDUCE SPEED. AFTER STOPPING AND SWITCHING THE SHIFTER BACK TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS ERRATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE PCM, TCM, REH, AND IPC WERE ALL REPROGRAMMED. AFTER RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ON DEMAND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SHIFTER IS UNSAFE. MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR I HAVE MISTAKENLY PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE INSTEAD OF PARK. THIS IS VERY EASY TO DO. THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTER HAS NO DETENTS, BUT IS AN ELECTRIC SWITCH. WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES INTO REVERSE, THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING, AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THINKING IT IS IN PARK. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARD AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. IT IS VERY EASY TO THINK YOU HAVE IT IN PARK WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY IN REVERSE.
