2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ILLUMINATED CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED TO CARE FOR THE COST OF THE RENTAL CAR BY REMOVING THE AMOUNT FROM THE COST OF SERVICE CHARGES WHICH TOTALED $2,670.69 APPROVED BY THE MANAGER. UNFORTURNATELY, THE CLAIM WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF ITS WARRANTY AND DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE ANY ACTIVE SERVICE CONTRACTS.
I have had a problem with the vehicle just shutting down while driving and it seems to have a wiring issue to the oem fuse box which keeps blowing the fuse. I see in 2018 there is a recall on the wiring but when I put my vin in it doesn't show that? I was on the highway and the vehicle shut off while driving and almost got killed with my granddaughter in the back seat when the vehicle behind me swerved into the fast lane and hit a part of the guardrail. I couldn't even put emergency lights on because the power died on every thing
The radio changes channels on its own and dials phone numbers at random.
The Uconnect Infotainment system frequently malfunctions. Because it is linked to the heating/cooling/defrost system it has caused the heat to turn on in dangerously hot weather while my 91 year old aunt was waiting in the car for me to pick up her prescriptions at Walmart. It also blanked out while I was using the navigation system in heavy traffic to find the Amtrak station during rush hour traffic in Philadelphia. Finally the same system blanked out a few days ago while I was driving to work and dialed the SOS emergency number. After a few minutes I was finally able to communicate to the emergency response agents that I was not involved in an accident, that it was a system malfunction. This has been an ongoing issue with the Uconnect 8.4 inch touch screen system. Chrysler FCA has only recently reluctantly admitted to being aware of the problems. When I notified them of my problems with the system in May 2022 their response was that since my vehicle was past the 36,000 mile warranty period that I would have to have it replaced at a dealer at an out-of-pocket cost of over $1300. Subsequently there has been an overwhelming flood of identical reports and complaints on Youtube, Facebook, Reddit, etc. When I contacted Chrysler FCA earlier this week their response was that I would be given a case # (which I was) but that I would then have to make an appointment to have it diagnosed at a dealer (for a fee). Then the dealer would possibly order a replacement. Reports on forums indicate that the replacement units typically take months just to arrive at dealerships. Finally, I have read numerous reports that the replacement units experience the same problems after a short period. I just read several reports of customers stating that they are on their 2nd and 3rd Uconnect replacements!
The UConnect radio has delaminated and is available for inspection. Due to the delamination of the UConnect system it will randomly change channels, replace channels, and will skip around to other parts of the system. This issue does not always occur and is random and unkown when it may happen. When the system does this it is a distraction to the driver and could cause a potential incident. This appears to be a known issue with 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Ram pick up trucks based on a google search. There are several threads that discuss the issue and the safety concerns it may cause. There were no warnings of the issue. The delamination has been a slow process and was unaware of the issues that it could cause with changing stations and other items randomly.
Interactive touch display screen delaminating causing ghost touching leading to functional changes in regards to switching from Heat to AC, switching navigation off and changing functions sporadically leading to distraction and difficulty operating car.
the uconnect screen is bubbling and de laminateing and causing the display to randomly change to all different screens from radio to heat to clock to navigation constantly changing cannot work the navigation, climate control, or radio or any he controls
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the PCM warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control) and that the contact had to pay out of pocket for all future repairs. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced at the dealer per the recall but is experiencing issues. A warning light keeps appearing even after the vehicle's powertrain control module was reprogrammed.
Communication screen has delaminated causing ghost touching. While driving the radio randomly changes, the phone will dial, the hvac controls will start switching, etc. without anyone touching the screen. This is distracting and dangerous. At night the screen will change dimness and brightness. I have no control over it and there’s nothing to be done to stop it.
Air conditioner is blowing only hot air. My car is 5 years old with 24,000 miles and i have Already paid to refill my 1234 refrigerant and within a couple months it's blowing hot air again. Now i am being quoted $1200 plus dollars to fix a leak.
On 01/31/2023, the driver side headrest spontaneously deployed and is no longer functional. The two parts that separated cannot be put back together. The were no indicators present of the headrest being faulty. The dealer was notified and stated that the repair would not be covered due to no current recalls for the headrest
The UConnect touch screen is delaminating, causing "ghost touches". The screen acts as though it's being touched repeatedly, bouncing from command to command (changes radio station, asks if I want to update the clock settings, etc). It's super distracting and the only way to stop it is to turn off the whole thing. In addition to shutting off the radio, turning it off disables access to tools like the backup camera, clock, climate controls, everything. I understand from looking online that this is a very common issue but Jeep isn't taking responsibility for it.
Auxiliary battery which manages auto start/stop fails. First time battery was tested and replaced under warranty. Failed again two years later - out of warranty. Unsure about risk but depending on who you ask, the failed auxiliary battery can be a parasite to the main battery, leading to potential breakdown. Also misleading fuel consumption numbers due to auto start/stop not functioning
October 31, 2022 - Check Engine Light came on. Autozone gave me the P0456 code - Small Leak in Evap System. The check engine light went off a week later. Continued to come on/off for the next 2 months. I was able to finally get an appt on 1/9 and took it into San Diego Jeep Dealership on Camino Del Rio S. They charged $500 for diagnostic even though I had the code already and replaced the Purge Valve & Hose. On 1/14 my car engine would not start at all. On 1/15 my car engine started, I went to drive and within a block my car shut off on me and I coasted to the side of the road while it threw a bunch of different errors including electronic stability warning. I came to a stop and then all of my windshield wipers randomly started going off, my horn randomly started going off, and the lights in my car started flashing. I pressed the push start button to try to turn it all off. I then got the error meesage that my front left headlight was out, it now is, alos my left blinker now doesn't work properly. I tried to start the car again, no luck. I called a tow truck, the tow truck guy was able to get my engine to start. I explained that my car shut off and asked him to follow me for a little while. I got 2 blocks and came to an stop sign where I idled and my car engine shut off on me again. I had my car towed back to the dealership that did the work. On 1/16 they told me it would be $700 for an electrical diagnostic. I did not have any major problems or warnings before taking it to the dealership.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Front left blinker failed, front right headlight failed, both at the same time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Both failed and now there is no blinker or headlight to drive safely at night or in inclement weather. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the auto shop confirmed on 1/17/23. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. The failure occurred on 1/14/23, car would not start at all. On 1/15/23 I went back to start it again and it started, tried to drive away and the car shut off on me while driving. The car then began to honk randomly, all the wipers went off, and the lights started flickering. I turned the car off completely and tried ot turn it back on and the car would not start again and also the front left blinker was now completely not working and the front left headlight is completely out. There is a warning on my car for the front left blinker but not for the front right headlight.
The vehicle continues to not start. Replaced both batteries (main & auxiliary) in two days later the vehicle would not start without a jump. Checked the alternator and used a voltage meter to test all fuses. Also was placed on a diagnostic machine nothing detected. The vehicle will run for a couple of days with no problems and then will not start. Took the vehicle in for the recall. The dealership fixed the recall and now the antilock brake sensor light is on and the slippery when wet light is on. I have been told by a mechanic that there has been an TSA stating the TIPM is known to be defective. I have been told the TIPM (fuse box or brain) can cost 600-1000 to replace. The vehicle only has 80000 miles on it. This problem should not be a consumer issue when it has been identified as product defect. Please help.
The control screen is delaminating from the top of the screen. It affects visibility and the unit behaves erratically. The vehicle has 35k miles. Sometimes the screen won’t display anything. I believe this to be a hazard—it affects navigation and all the other controls that are accessed through this interface.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Power steering failed while driving with family in vehicle including pregnant wife and toddler. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The power steering turned off while driving and has been deemed defective. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealership confirmed it’s a rack and pinion issue and they are out of stock and on back order. I’m not the only one experiencing this. They also can’t fix my car without a part. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The dealership inspected it. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. The jeep only has 55000 miles on it. I take care of my cars. This issue is known and the part is $2000 not including labor. I want my car fixed and I can’t get it fixed. I rely on this vehicle for my family. They can’t order the part nor find it. I am stuck without power steering. Not by choice.
UConnect 8.4 touchscreen just started going crazy like someone was constantly pressing multiple buttons without stopping. Makes it totally unusable. Distracting driver.
Tv screen delaminated on its own
For the past month the radio has been changing channels continuously, the volume changes, the seat warmers and heater turn on and off. I researched this and found many others with this problem. It is a safety concern.
Rear glass in the sunroof spontaneously exploded. The inner shade was closed so the glass did not shower down on the rear passengers, but it would have if the shade wasn't closed. The sound of the explosion was so loud it was like a canon going off. Such an intense noise could easily cause someone to swerve into oncoming traffic or go off the side of the road.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at unknown speeds, there was as abnormal humming noise detected. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The mileage at the time of failure was approximately 25,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The navigation display in my jeep is starting to delaminate which is cause ghost touches and the screen will change on its own, mess with settings and it can cause serious safety issues and is distracting to the driver. This should be a recall and not the driver’s responsibility to fix.
For my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee: the UConnect touchscreen which controls everything from the parking assist functions to navigation to climate is delaminating. As a result of the delaminating screen, the screen will malfunction while driving the vehicle causing it 1) become permanently "stuck" on the rear back up camera/parking assist mode or 2) override driver selections and prompt the driver to select/deselect other functions unrelated to driving causing dangerous distractions and impacting our ability to use the car and system safely.
The infotainment screen started acting crazy and makes it difficult or impossible to operate the vehicle when misbehaving. The screen will lock up and not respond to any touch control. Powering the vehicle off and on at a traffic light does not fix the issue. Of course, this means I cannot operate the HVAC, navigation nor any other controls requiring the touch screen. The system will also switch on its own into different modes and selections... radio, seat and steering wheel heaters, volume, etc. The problem is frequent and persistent. The screen has also delaminated and is becoming harder to see/read. The malfunctioning of the screen is a big driver distraction taking away from attention on driving. Not being able to turn off or on the seat warmers nor the HVAC when malfunctioning causes discomfort and distraction. I have reached out to Jeep customer care but have not made contact with them yet.
I am the original owner of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 45,000 miles on it (it is out of the warranty period). About 9 months ago, I notice a portion of the center screen becoming delaminated. Then about 4 months ago, the screen started to act up - ghost pressing certain areas of the screen, without me touching it (automatically turning up the volume, turning on heated seats (in Florida), changing audio sources, changing the gps, etc.). It's extremely distracting when I drive. Last week, it even dialed 911 on its own while I was driving it. I contacted Jeep Cares and was instructed to take it into a dealer for a diagnostic check. They are charging me $190 for this. Even when they find the screen defective, I'm fearful that I will be charged the $1,600-$2,000 to have it replaced. This is a very known issue among Jeep/Chrysler owner - many forums like this (https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/display-screen-starting-to-delaminate.224391/) prove it. Even though I am out of warranty, I feel that this should be recalled and covered at no charge (including the diagnostic check) since it's a major safety issue. The screen was defective to begin with - and after driving it for a few year, the defects were finally known. This needs to replaced ASAP before a severe accident takes place.
Glue from radio screen melts off in hot weather causing delamination which then causing the radio screen to do whatever it wants. Will have gps on then will go to radio screen or any other screen will even turn on heated seats or steering will on it’s one because the screen is messed up
Car radio gets stuck on screen that says "do you want to adjust the clock" . You cannot get into any of the apps that change the braking system or change the heat settings (like defrost) It just jumps back to do you want to adjust the clock. Sometimes the screen just goes off completely. Looks like the screen is delaminating. You can see the bubble underneath.
The infotainment system screen keeps changing and asking if I want to reset the clock. It also turns on the heated seat and steering wheel heat and blower motor requiring constant attention to the screen to try to turn things off and causing constant distraction from driving.
Infotainment screen has slowly been delaminating. Today, the screen began receiving phantom commands. I do not touch the screen, but the screen acts as though I am constantly touching it in random places. The radio, defrost, maps, backup camera, etc. turn on and off. It has made my car unsafe to drive because I can't keep my windshield defrosted, I can't use the navigation feature, I can't properly use the rear camera in reverse, and there is persistent beeping from the screen mistakenly sensing that I am touching it.
The touch screen on my UConnect system is delaminating, and as such it is causing the system to go haywire, constantly asking if I want to change the clock, making phone calls, changing the environment settings along with heated seats/steering wheel and who knows what else as it gets worse I've done some research and this seems to be a common issue in Jeeps around the year I have and it's a safety issue. This is all happening while I'm driving and it's incredibly distracting, not to mention it affects the operation of the vehicle I'm surprised this is not yet a recalled issue but I hope it can be made one soon. It seems like I will have to have this issue fixed out of pocket but hopefully I'll be able to be retroactively reimbursed if the NHTSA can make this a recall promptly Thank you
Radio screen is delaminating. When it starts to act up the radio, navigation, phone calls, climate control, radio start to go crazy. Even if you turn it off it’ll turn back on causing insane distractions.
The display for the radio, navigation and other components is malfunctioning. The radio switches the station without warning and goes back and forth between FM and XM on its own. The navigation screen or a message stating "Do you want to adjust your clock settings?" pops up on the screen and then disappears. It prevents me from being able to adjust any of the settings or control the radio. The most worrying issue is that if the seat warmers are on, you are unable to turn them down or off, causing the seats to become uncomfortably hot. I have not had the vehicle inspected. There was no warning message or other symptoms before these problems became evident. They first appeared 60 days ago and have progressively increased in frequency.
Control screen is delaminating causing ghost controls and making it impossible to adjust or turn on/off climate controls- AC, heating, dehumidifier… making it UNSAFE to drive. In addition radio stations jump from one to another - a mere distraction in comparison to the climate control problems Please recall !!
1. My instrument panel screen is completely non-functional due to delaminating / experiencing delamination. It is available for inspection upon request. 2. I can no longer manage the air flow in order to properly defog my windows. I was driving on a highway, the windows were fogging up, and I could not defog my windows. It was incredibly dangerous to myself and the other cars around me as I could not see them. I can also no longer make phone calls through the car as it would randomly hang up or mute the calls. 3. It is a constant problem, and has been rendered permanently disabled. 4. It has been inspected and confirmed by others, yes. 5. The screen started to bubble in one corner (now half of the screen has bubbled), and random places on the screen were being "ghost pressed" causing the instrument panel to behave sporadically and trigger all sorts of random functions. This starting happening about 4 years after purchasing it brand new from the Ramsey, NJ Jeep dealership and has progressively gotten much worse to the point of being completely unusable. Every time while I am driving it performs random actions which are incredibly distracting. Changing the radio stations, skipping songs, making random calls, cancelling / or modifying my GPS directions. It is completely possessed. At this point I leave it off most of the time, but do need to use it for certain features, but it's highly distracting and unsafe at this point.
On 11/24/22 my touch screen began to show a box that blocked the entire screen asking if I wanted to adjust my clock. I tapped "no" and it would not clear. I tapped the "X" in the corner and it would not clear. So I tapped yes and it took me to another screen to sync with GPS etc. Then it would disappear. It kept repeating this and then would flash and beep. Then disappear and reappear the entire trip. I then noticed that there was a discoloration or delamination at the top of the screen so I "googled" this issue and apparently the 2018 Jeep vehicles have an issue with this where the radio/ navigation / screen system / bluetooth/ Apple Car Play will act on it's own - shut down, change stations, etc. It is still ongoing so I took it to my dealer and they confirmed the delamination issue and have ordered a new radio system. This is a safety concern and I was unable to see the navigation or use the touch screen to control the heating system or anything else controlled by the touch screen, not to mention a distraction while driving.
About a month ago my Jeep's UConnect touch screen started to mess up. After doing further investigation, I have found out it is a common problem for this model and year of my Jeep and people are describing it as delamination and "ghost touch." This sounds exactly like what mine is doing. It has progressively gotten worse since it started and it is to the point where I can't even control anything because it is just randomly pressing on the screen. I believe this is a safety hazard because I now get very distracted when driving. It has even closed out of my directions when driving and I feel like I have a lack of control over safety features if I needed them. The problem has not been inspected by anyone yet but I have a video of the issue below. There are no error messages that pop up.
ABS light/Traction light comes on when I break or reverse. When I start up the car it is never on. The car jerks as it shifts to 2wd and I am informed that park sensor is off as well.
This concerns the malfunction of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4-Inch Display UAV Radio. The dealer removed the radio and inspected the problem. The touch screen bubbled/delaminated and the adhesive must of warmed up from the radio use and dripped down to the bottom of the radio affecting other components. The radio will change stations on it's own, navigation won't work. If i have my cell phone on it will make random calls and it will activate the SOS call. That happened 3 times and 2 times i was driving on the highway. That did take my attention away from driving. Now i have to make sure my phone is off when driving. I didn't renew my Uconnect subscription so i didn't get in trouble for that. My chrysler factory warranty denied a replacement. They told me the dealer said something about it was an outside influence (a sticky liquid inside) caused the radio problem that made the radio act that way so it's not covered. Giving you an approximate date is hard to do. It happens a lot. The date i put is when it started to really act up
The touch screen on the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is delaminating and this appears to be a common theme with this vehicle. The delamination causes the screen to "ghost touch" itself and constantly click various parts of the screen. This almost entirely prohibits the use of the HandsFree function, a serious safety issue. When holding the button to activate Siri when my iPhone is connected, Siri will activate but then the screen "ghost touches" itself and immediately deactivates Siri because the screen touches itself not where the Siri logo/listening icon appears. I cannot use Hands Free functions in my vehicle which causes the need to use my hands which is very dangerous. This needs to be recalled to prevent situations where drivers of a 2018 vehicle with CarPlay are forced to use their hands. Further, with the screen touching itself, it is constantly pressing on the screen and selecting different presets, settings, options. I cannot view my Apple Maps on the touch screen because it switches off the screen and begins to play music, pause the music, skip songs, play songs, etc. While listening to the radio, the screen will touch itself and select different presets, changing the station, and be very very distracting. This issue is a serious distraction while driving and puts myself and those I am driving in danger.
Top right corner of touch screen started delaminating about a year ago. But nothing happened, it was just cosmetic. Until now, it causes the screen to change on its own. It will call people, change the radio station, flicker the map and end the directions, turn on my seat heaters. It is very distracting while driving which is dangerous and puts my safety at risk. This is a very known and common issue by Jeep, but out of warranty they just charge you $1000+ to replace it.
Uconnect 8.4 infotainment system issue. Unit has delaminated and is not functioning properly because of delaminating issue. Unit will cycle through options in infotainment system because of de-lamination without interaction. Infotainment system is hub for all important settings of vehicle. Some features will not function properly if the infotainment system isn’t working properly. This is a KNOWN widespread issue with Uconnect systems. Please act and recall these infotainment systems to be replaced by Uconnect/vehicle manufacturers.
The 8.4 touch screen is delaminating causing the whole screen area to randomly turn things on and off on its own. Changing certain settings while driving. Safety settings are being affected as well as the touch screen controls almost everything. The defective touch screen is causing a distraction while driving. Contacted jeep they are aware of the issues but no one wants to take responsibility to fix it.
The UConnect screen is delaminating which is causing the touchscreen to malfunction. This is causing the navigation system, radio, seating controls, and climate control to be inoperable for spans of time. I have already had several occasions where this has caused unsafe driving conditions.
The UConnect system seems to be changing setting on heating and volume controls as well as many other features. It has caused me to be very distracted while driving. It seems to be a real problem among all of the same systems. Please help!
Uconnect infotainment screen is delaminating causing the unit to select random buttons on its own. on a cool morning I was driving to work when the screen started randomly changing the climate controls blasting full heat directly on my windshield causing it to fog up and impaired my visibility. The unit then started calling 911, turning radio channels on and adjusting the volume. This was extremely distracting and I had no control over the functions of my vehicle. Uconnect is aware of this very common issue and refuses to offer a solution. No warning, only visible defect of the delamination was present prior to the unit randomly changing functions on its own.
The touch screen on the vehicle, which contains the navigation, radio, heating and cooling functions, hands free calling and other settings, has begun delaminating. While driving there are near constant "phantom touches", which is constant beeping, changing of radio stations. The phantom touches also prevent me from being able to access any features on the touch screen as the phantom touch will kick me out.
My uConnect touchscreen started delaminating since end of year 2022. It has gotten worse where it interrupts my driving most of the time. Due to the screen delimitation, the radio irregularly switches the channels itself every 1 to 2 seconds; the AC/heat screen attempts switch the setting to front windshield or other air settings to a maximum airflow; the main setting screens attempts to call 911 emergency during many of my driving events; it attempts to change my clock settings…etc. Most of the interior settings are in the uConnect touch screen pages, no way I could get my settings stay AS IS from the denomination. It is nearly impossible for the drivers to concentrate during their driving from this irregular activity. I have contacted FCA and Jeep dealership but I have not gotten any resolution to resolve the issue. I have searched the sites for the issue and most of the 2018 Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram owners seems to have the same issue. However, the dealership is not taking the issue seriously. The irregular radio interruption is very dangerous to the drivers and I believe it should be a recall. (I wish I can upload a video to show the uConnect self irregular settings)
The control screen of my jeep is 'delaminating'. This is apparently quite a known issue to the manufacturer, however they wont do anything to address it. When the screen starts reacting to phantom touches, not only can I not control anything in the car, it is very distracting to the driver to put it mildly. I have also read that as the glue melts, it leaks onto the wiring of all the components under the screen including the AC, all the parking sensor and traction control off controls.
