BOTH REAR WINDOWS ON MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY FELL DOWN INTO THE DOORS. THE REAR WINDOWS HAD ONLY BEEN LOWERED AND RAISED FOUR TIMES. THE FIRST ONE FELL AT 19,000 MILES; THE SECOND FELL AT 22,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. *TR
THIS INCIDENT STARTED IN 2008 AND AT THE TIME THOUGHT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE GAS PUMP AT THE GAS STATION BUT NOW THE PROBLEM IS MORE COMMON AND HAPPENS WEEKLY, RECENTLY SPLASHING GASOLINE INTO MY EYES WHICH REQUIRED FLUID EYE RINSE AND MEDICAL ATTENTION. EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK ON MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY, THE GAS BEGINS TO OVERFLOW AND SPLASHES BACK, OUT OF THE FUEL INLET OPENING. THIS IN TURN SPRAYS FUEL OUT AT A FORCE, AND THEN ONTO THE GROUND. RECENTLY THIS HAPPENED AND SPRAYED FUEL INTO MY EYES, ON ONTO MY CLOTHES. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT ALSO A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING AFTER TALKING WITH THE DEALER THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH JEEP LIBERTY'S IN THAT THE FUEL TANK'S INLET CHECK VALVE IS FAULTY WHICH IN TURN FAILS TO AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF THE GAS STATION FUEL PUMP IN TIME. THIS IS MY FORMAL COMPLAINT THAT I WAS INJURED DUE TO A KNOWN, FAULTY PART/COMPONENT OF THE JEEP LIBERTY. *TR
BAD WINDOW REGULATORS, ALWAYS BREAKING. ALL MY WINDOW REGULATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND NOW I'M WORKING ON THE 2ND ROUND, AND SOME WINDOWS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ALREADY IN 2 YEARS. *TR THE PROBLEM IS IT LEAVES THE CAR VUNERABLE FOR LEFT OR EVEN DAMAGE (DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER) PLUS IT'S NOT SAFE, IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK AND THE WINDOW STARTS TO FALL DOWN WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING. *TR
1. NO UNUSUAL EVENTS, WINDOW (REAR DRIVER'S SIDE) SELDOM CYCLED IN USE. 2. 1 OCCURRENCE, WINDOW GAPED SLOWLY FROM ABOUT AN INCH TO THREE INCHES WHEN CAR WAS STATIONARY. AND WOULD FALL COMPLETELY DOWN WHEN DRIVING. CONSEQUENCES? INTERIOR OF THE CAR WAS EXPOSED TO WEATHER. 3. REGULATOR FAILURE DIAGNOSED. PART REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.*TR

I CHECKED MINE AND NOTICED DIESEL FUEL ON THE WIRING AND BURN MARKS ON THE WIRE CONNECTOR. THIS SEEMS LIKE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. DUE TO THE FUEL LEAKAGE AND SCORCHING OF WIRING I WILL HAVE TO GET BOTH THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING AND PLUG REPLACED. BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF ISSUES I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
LOST STEERING CONTROL. THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED TO WORK. *TR
2006 JEEP LIBERTY CRD FUEL FILTER SEPARATOR HEATER ELEMENT EVIDENCE OF PENDING FAILURE AND LEAK AND FIRE HAZARD; BROWNING OF PLUG CONTACT AND AIR IN SYSTEM DUE TO SOME SORT OF SLOW LEAK. THIS MAKES ELEMENT OVERHEAT IN AFOREMENTIONED AIR - AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE SUBMERGED IN FUEL - AND WILL MELT THERMOPLASTIC PLUG ELEMENT FITTING, CAUSING LEAK, WHICH WILL DRIBBLE ONTO HOT AREAS BELOW - IF GASES NOT IGNITED BY HEATING ELEMENT FIRST IN AIR/FUEL SPACE CREATED BY AIR LEAK - AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE FIRE AND DEATH. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE WINDOW REGULATORS REPLACED ON ALL 4 WINDOWS, WITH THE LEFT REAR REPLACED TWICE. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS AT 28,000 MILES, AND THE SECOND EPISODE OCCURRED AT 33,000 MILES. A FINAL INCIDENCE OCCURRED AT 42,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD THAT JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT HAPPENS IN HOT AREAS (LIKE THE DESERT). I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE MY WINDOWS CRACKED OPEN SO AS TO PREVENT THE BUILD-UP OF HEAT. THESE EVENTS HAPPEN AS I DRIVE, AND IN ONE CASE, IT HAPPENED THAT THE WINDOW CAME DOWN WHILE MY WIFE WAS AT WORK, AND SHE FOUND IT AFTER A FULL DAY. THIS CREATED A BIG SECURITY ISSUE AS THE CAR COULD HAVE BEEN VANDALIZED OR STOLEN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WOULD COST $493 TO REPAIR THE BRAKES. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V493000 (SERVICE BRAKES,HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) WAS REFERENCED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,000. UPDATED 06/25/08 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, OSP, BSP WARNING LIGHTS HAD ILLUMINTED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATD. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD LOW TIRE PRESSURE. UPDATED
FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. SECOND TIME IT HAS BEEN REPLACED. *TR
BACK HATCH DOOR DOESN'T OPEN ANYMORE, LATCH JAMS. *TR
UPON RAPID ACCELERATION TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THIS JEEP LIBERTY CRD ACCELERATOR PEDAL LATCHES AND VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE REGARDLESS OF BRAKING OR OTHER MEASURES. IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN CONTROL YOU ARE FORCED TO PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, PULL OVER AT A SAFE LOCATION (IF AVAILABLE) AND PHYSICALLY PULL UP, OR "UNLATCH" THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF THIS PROBLEM TWO PREVIOUS TIMES AND DID NOT TAKE THE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY. *TR
2008 JEEP LIBERTY: I HAVE HAD THE WINDOW REGULATOR LIFT PLATES ON ALL WINDOWS FAIL.....AGAIN, ALL 4 WINDOWS HAVE FAILED A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES COMBINED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2006. ONE WAS WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD. THE 6 OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED WHILE OUT OF WARRANTY. OF THESE 6 OUT OF WARRANTY INSTANCES, JEEP HAS COVERED 4 OF THESE UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE PLASTIC LIFT PLATE PART IS DEFECTIVE AND "NOT ADEQUATELY DESIGNED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE GLASS AND POWER OF THE WINDOW MOTOR". THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS WORD FOR WORD! THIS WARRANTY HAS NOW EXPIRED AND THE REGULATORS/LIFT PLATES CONTINUE TO FAIL. 1ST ONE FAILED IN MAY OF 2008 REAR DRIVER, 2ND MARCH 2010 PASSENGER, 3RD AUGUST 2010 PASSENGER REAR, 4TH JANUARY 2012 PASSENGER REAR, 5TH SEPTEMBER 2012 DRIVER REAR, 6TH APRIL 2013 DRIVER REAR, AND NOW ANOTHER (7TH) JUST FAILED AUGUST 11TH 2013 DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT STARTLES DRIVERS WHEN A WINDOW SUDDENLY FALLS AND SLAMS INTO THE DOOR. I HAVE SWERVED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, LUCKILY NOT HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS ALSO ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE PROPERLY SECURED/LOCKED. AN INTRUDER CAN EASILY GAIN ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE, HIDE IN THE BACK AND THEN ATTACK THE DRIVER OR OCCUPANTS. THEY CAN ALSO STEAL THE VEHICLE OR ITS COMPONENTS OR PERSONAL BELONGINGS. ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ACROSS VARIOUS MESSAGE BOARDS, AND CONSUMER COMPLAINT WEBSITES REGARDING THIS VERY ISSUE. JEEP HAS ADMITTED TO USING FAULTY/DEFECTIVE PARTS, BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE THEM AT WILL. THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE AND COVER THE COST OF THIS REPLACEMENT IF, AND ONLY IF, IT IS EITHER IN WARRANTY OR THE EXTENDED WINDOW WARRANTY WHICH IS 7 YEARS FROM VEHICLE IN SERVICE DATE. FOR THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY, THIS WARRANTY IS EXPIRING EVERY DAY DURING 2013. *TR
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE WINDOW REGULATORS BREAK IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED 3 OF THEM AT LEAST TWICE. I HAVE REPLACED ON ONCE, WHICH IS THE ONLY ONE I DID NOT HAVE REPLACED BY CHRYSLER. IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS NOT BROKEN AGAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP OUT IN ANY WAY TO PAY FOR THESE. IT NEEDS TO BE A RECALLED PART, AND THEY NEED TO MAKE A PART THAT WILL ACTUALLY NOT BREAK. MY SMALL CHILD HAS TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT WITH A WINDOW DOWN, MY VEHICLE IS OPEN FOR ANYONE TO JUST GET INTO MY VEHICLE AT ANY TIME, AND ANY TIME IT RAINS, SNOWS, ANYTHING ELSE I GET ALL TYPE OF WEATHER IN THE VEHICLE. 2006 JEEP LIBERTY WITH ELECTRONIC WINDOW FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE REAR ELECTRONIC WINDOWS HAVE FAILED AND THE RIGHT ONE HAS FAILED TWICE. MECHANIC STATES THAT IT IS A REGULATOR/CABLE PROBLEM. *KB
I FIRST BOUGHT THE JEEP IN 2008 (USED). EVERYTHINE I WENT TO FILL THE TANK, ABOUT 1 CUP OF GAS WOULD SPILL OUT WHEN IT WAS FULL. I GOT USED TO THIS BUT NOW THE SERVICE LIGHT POPS ON AND THE GASCAP WARING APPEARS IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW. SPOKE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1200 TO GET IT REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE OTHER ISSE IS THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THREE (3) REGULATORS FOR MY REAR WINDOWS (2 ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE) IF THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 300+ COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, WHY HASN'T CHRYSLER RECALL THE VEHICLE TO TAKE CARE OF THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WINDOWS (FRONT AND BACK SEAT) FALL DOWN AND FAIL TO STAY UP WITHOUT TAPE. THEY HAVE BEEN TAPED UP FOR OVER A YEAR B/C WE REFUSE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM FIXED. HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED ALTHOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT. THE MAIN COMPONENT OF THE REGULATOR IS PLASTIC AND RUNS ON A METAL TRACK, CAUSING THE PLASTIC TO WEAR DOWN AND NO LONGER BE ABLE TO GRIP ON THE RAIL AND SUPPORT THE WINDOW. NEWER MODEL JEEPS DO NOT HAVE THIS PART, SO OBVIOUSLY THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND UPGRADED THE PART TO ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING, FUEL WOULD OVERFLOW AND SPEW FROM THE FILLER NECK. THE FUEL TANK COULD NOT BE FILLED TO CAPACITY AND THE FAILURE WAS A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
LOWER BALL JOINT - EXCESSIVE FRONT TIRE WEAR ON THE INSIDE WALL OF TIRES. *TR
MY REAR TAIL LIGHTS AND STOP LIGHTS BULBS KEEP BURNIGING OUT. THE REAR PASSENGER HOUSING HAS BEEN REPLACED FREE BY THE DEALER. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SAME HOUSING IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS. THE REAR TAIL LAMP AND BRAKE LAMP BULBS DO NOT BURN THE FILAMENT THE LIGHT BULBS ACTUALLY EXPLODE INSIDE THE HOUSING OR MELT THE HOUSING. THE PLUGS THAT HOLD THE BULBS ARE SCORCHED. I HAVE BOTH THE REAR LAMP AND PLUGS TO SHOW THE DEFECT. I AM NOT THE ISOLATED CASE: MOST LIBERTY OWNERS AND SOME GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. MY SECOND COMPLAINT IS A FUEL LEAK AT THE CONNECTION OF THE FUEL HEATING ELEMENT. THE FILTER HEAD WHERE THE FUEL FILTER IS ATTACHED ALSO HAS A HEATING ELEMNT.. THE ELECTIC PLUG CONNECTION AT THE HEAD LEAKED FUEL ONTO THE CONNECTION. I OBSERVED WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TUNED ON, THE FUEL LEAKED AND VAPORIZE AS IT WAS BEING SHORTED AND HEATED. I DISCONNECTED THE ELECTRIC PLUG., FILLED THE FEMALE RECEPTACLE WITH FUEL TANK EPOXY AND RUBBER PLUG FOR GOOD MEASURE. WILL BE REPLACING SCORCHED CONNECTION AND FILTER HEAD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I WILL KEEP ALL DEFECTIVE PARTS FOR YOUR INSPECTON UPON YOUR REQUEST THANK YOU.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND ONCE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW CONTROL ARM WAS FRACTURED AND INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT WARRANTY AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. UPDATED 08/28/12*LJ THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY BUT, THERE IS STILL A 100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. WHILE DRIVING AND EVASIVE MOVE WAS MADE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. THE STABILITY CONTROL DID WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO DO, THE LIGHT LIT TO SIGNAL IT WAS ACTIVATED, THEN THE ESP/BAS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE BECAME LOCKED IN A LIMP MODE. I PULLED TO THE SIDE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE TWO ABOVE MENTIONED LIGHTS WENT OUT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIT. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. ONE OF THE TIME IT HAPPENED ON THE TECH REPAIRING THE JEEP. MANY PARTS AND SOFTWARE UPDATES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. *TR
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR POWER WINDOWS WERE INOPERABLE AND WERE UNABLE TO ROLL DOWN IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THE CONTACT HAD THE SWITCHED REPLACED IN JUNE 2010; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. ALSO THE REAR WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED, CAUSING IT TO FALL INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE SWITCH REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 97,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4. WHENEVER WATER SPILLS ON THE CLOTH SEATS OF THE VEHICLE, IT LEAVES A STAIN. THE SEATS SMELL OF URINE AND FECES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE IN ANY DIRECTION AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT FROM FIRST GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY IN FIRST GEAR, IT ROLLED BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FIRST GEAR AND WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY AGAIN AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO A COLLISION CENTER FOR REPAIRS. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,010.
THE WINDOWS ON MY JEEP LIBERTY FALL FROM THE TRACK FOR NO REASON. THEY FALL WHEN I DON'T EVEN USE THEM. THEY HAVE BEEN FIXED AT LEAST 5 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE JEEP. THE NEW PART THAT THEY INSTALL IS APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE BECAUSE THEY ONLY LAST FOR A YEAR AND THEN THEY BREAK AGAIN. THIS SHOULD BE LISTED AS A RECALL SINCE I HAVE SEEN THOUSANDS OF OWNERS OF THIS JEEP COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, SOME HAVING FIXED THE WINDOWS 12 OR MORE TIMES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL BECAUSE THE WINDOWS SUDDENLY FALLING DOWN FOR NO REASON CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AND ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SOMEONE CAN REACH IN YOUR CAR AND HARM YOU OR CREATE A CARJACKING ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A SUDDEN NOISE AS IF SOMETHING FELL FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE FAN FROM THE ENGINE FELL ONTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT FLOOR, UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD. ON 2/21/08 I TOOK MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY TO DAVID O'NEAL AUTOMOTIVE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE CHECKED AS A RESULT OF TWO INCIDENTS THAT HAD OCCURRED DURING IT'S OPERATION AND ANOTHER OPERATIONAL PROBLEM. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE WALMART PARKING LOT AS I WAS STOPPED TO ALLOW A PEDESTRIAN TO CROSS THE PARKING LOT. THE JEEP ACCELERATED WHILE IT WAS IN A STOPPED POSITION AND I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK TO AVOID HITTING THE PEDESTRIAN. ON THE SECOND INCIDENT I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT WHEN THE JEEP ONCE AGAIN ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE OTHER PROBLEM THAT I WAS HAVING WITH THE VEHICLE IS IT'S INABILITY TO ACCELERATE EFFECTIVELY AT TIMES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR ADVISED ME THAT THEY DID GET THE JEEP TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DID NOT GET A CODE FOR THE PROBLEM. ON 2/22/08 I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR THE DEALERSHIP WITH REGARD TO THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH THE VEHICLE, THE ISSUE OF MY HAVING TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC FEES AND REPAIRS AND THE SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED WITH THIS MATTER. HE ADVISED ME TO WAIT UNTIL THE VEHICLE REPEATS THE PROBLEM AND BRING IT IN TO SEE IF WE CAN GET A CODE. I NOTIFIED HIM THAT THEY HAD ALREADY SEEN THE PROBLEM REPEAT ITSELF WHEN I HAD IT IN FOR REPAIR AND A CODE DID NOT ACTIVATE. HE AGAIN STATED THAT I SHOULD BRING IT IN TO SEE IF A CODE COULD BE RETRIEVED. I ASKED HIM, IF A CODE COULD NOT BE RETRIEVED, WHAT DO WE DO THEN? HE COULD NOT GIVE ME ANY DEFINITIVE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. ON THIS SAME DATE I RELAYED ALL OF THIS SAME INFORMATION TO THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS COORDINATOR. IN ADDITION I EXPRESSED THE FACT THAT WHEN THE REPAIR BILLS AND DIAGNOSTIC FEES WERE BEING CHARGED TO ME IT WAS OKAY TO PROCEED WITHOUT CODES BUT NOW THAT I FEEL THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THESE COSTS, DUE TO WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (1/3/2008) AND THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM (DEFECT), THE DEALERSHIP FEELS THAT WE CANNOT PROCEED WITHOUT A CODE. *TR

MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2006 LIBERTY ON THE NORTHERN PARKWAY IN WESTBURY, NY ON JANUARY 2, 2008. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 2006 AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 15,500 MILES ON IT. SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING THE WHEELS LOCKED UP RIPPING OUT THE TRANSFER CASE AND DROPPING THE DRIVE SHAFT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR BEHIND HER WAS DAMAGED AS IT RAN OVER THE DRIVE TRAIN COMPONENTS. THE DRIVER OF THE DAMAGED CAR SAW FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE LIBERTY AND A CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE. (PROBABLY FROM THE GEAR OIL). FORTUNATELY THE LIBERTY VEERED INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND NOT INTO ANOTHER TRAVEL. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE LIBERTY WAS TOWED TO WESTBURY JEEP. INITIALLY I MET WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE INDICATED THE REPAIRS WOULD BE MADE UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER 12 DAYS HE PHONE ME AND SAID ...EITHER THE CAR HIT SOMETHING OR IT WAS DRIVEN IN 4WD LOW ON THE HIGHWAY. NEITHER OF THESE OCCURRED AND JEEP DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE AND WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. I PHONED CHRYSLER AND THEY WON?T EVEN SEND A REP TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND REPEATED WHAT THE DEALER SAID. THE CHRYSLER SERVICE REP WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANOTHER CONTACT SAYING SHE WAS TRAINED TO HANDLE THESE SITUATIONS. SHE ALSO SAID THERE ARE NO TSBS OR RECALLS FOR MY LIBERTY WHICH APPLY. I AM FRUSTRATED AND STONEWALLED BY BOTH THE WESTBURY JEEP AND CHRYSLER. *TR

ON THE 27TH. OF DEC. 2007 I WAS TRAVELING ON I70E AND AS I WAS GETTING BACK ON THE HWY. FROM A REST STOP JUST EAST OF INDIANAPLOIS, IN. MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY CRD HAD A FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER. I GOING ABOUT 60-65 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOT OF SHUDDERING COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN A LOUD KLUNK AND IT CAUSE A SUDDEN DROP IN MY SPEED FROM 65 TO 30 MPH. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED OR HURT, HOWEVER AS IN THE PAST WHEN THIS HAPPEN, ITS WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING A TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDER HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHILE II WAS TRAVELING. MY DEALER HAS KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR, AND I HAVE REPORTED IT TO HIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT MORE THAN 4 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE FIXED. WAS ABLE TO STEER INTO CENTER TURN LANE WHILE SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL. ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL MODE OF OPERATION, AND I PROCEEDED DIRECTLY TO MY DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP KEPT CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS, FINDING NOTHING ( SERVICE SAID THEY CHECKED THE COMPUTER AND CALLED CHRYSLER), THEY SAID CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. SECOND INCIDENT: LAST SATURDAY (NOV. 10, 2007) MY WIFE USED CAR TO GO SHOPPING. APPROXIMATELY FOUR MINUTES AFTER START, ENGINE AGAIN OVERSPED: SHE PULLED OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT IT DOWN. WHEN I ARRIVED, ATTEMPTED A RESTART; ENGINE WENT TO A HIGH RPM SO I SHUT IT DOWN AND LEFT IT PARKED WHILE I WENT TO THE DEALER. MY BACK WINDOW FELL DOWN AND LOOKING AT A $500 BILL TO REPAIR IT, I TOOK SILICONE WINDOW SEALER AND SEALED THE WINDOW SHUT. IN JULY OF LAST YEAR (2006), I LEASED A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER, ONE OF MY WINDOWS SLIPPED DOWN. I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIRS. SINCE THEN (16 MONTHS LATER), I HAVE BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR THIS EXACT REASON 5 MORE TIMES. MY PARENTS HAVE THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE, SAME YEAR, AND THEY ARE ON THEIR 6TH WINDOW AS WELL. AFTER TALKING TO THE REPAIR SHOPS WE BOTH GO TO, WE HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. JEEP HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY US AND BY OTHERS. THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. 2006 JEEP LIBERTY CRD BEGAN STALLING WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. DRIVING STARTED OUT NORMAL, THEN SUDDENLY WHILE AT A STEADY 65 MPH THE JEEP BEGAN MAKING A LOUD NOISE AND NOT RESPONDING TO ACCELERATION. THIS WENT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY FOR 5 MILES TO THE NEXT EXIT OFF THE FREEWAY, THEN IT OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY ON A HIGHWAY THEN SIDE STREETS UNTIL I MADE IT HOME. FROM A DEAD STOP IT WAS EXTREMELY SLUGGISH TO GET GOING AT ALL. THE SYMPTOMS POINT TO TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUES, I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL WORK DONE AT THE DEALER IN DECEMBER 2006, APPARENTLY THAT DIDN'T EVEN LAST A YEAR. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO STALL ON A FREEWAY, LET ALONE SIDE ROADS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SCHEDULE A VISIT FOR WELL OVER A WEEK, IT GOES IN TOMORROW. *TR
TODAY MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY DIESEL WOULD NOT START. I DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL FILTER HAD LOST PRIME AND THERE WAS DIESEL FUEL LEAKING FROM THE HEATER PLUG CONNECTOR THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I UNPLUGGED THE CONNECTOR AND NOTICED THAT THE YELLOW PLASTIC PLUG HEAD SHOWED NOTICEABLE SIGNS OF SCORCHING (BROWN DISCOLORATION) AROUND THE PIN HOLES. ALSO, WHEN I DISCONNECTED THE PLUG THERE WAS A HISS OF AIR ESCAPING FROM THE SYSTEM. NO DOUBT THIS AIR LEAK IS WHAT CAUSED MY INITIAL PROBLEM OF LACK OF FUEL PRESSURE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FAIL TO START. HOWEVER, THE BIGGER CONCERN HERE IS THAT THE SYSTEM IS LEAKING FUEL AND THE HEATER SEEMS TO BE SHORTING OUT ITS ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH IS A VERY DANGEROUS COMBINATION. *JB
FUEL IS EXPELLED WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, WHICH SPLASHES ON VEHICLE AND PERSON FILLING THE TANK. GASOLINE FUMES ARE VERY STRONG INSIDE VEHICLE AFTER FILLING TANK, AND REQUIRES WINDOWS TO BE OPEN FOR CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO RELIEVE OVERLY STRONG SMELL. *TR

IN APRIL 2010, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL INSIDE THE DOOR; HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE REGULATOR AND THE WINDOW. IN JULY 2010, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAILED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH HER BUT HAD NOT DONE SO. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,759. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 800.
