WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A LOUD AND SUDDEN BANGING NOISE OCCURRED DUE TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SUDDENLY COMING OFF TRACK AND FALLING INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON BOTH PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WESTBURY JEEP/CHRYSLER LOCATED IN WESTBURY, NY WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATORS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER GLASSES SHATTERED PREVIOUSLY INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.
AFTER PUTTING MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOWN COMPLETELY, IT WILL NOT GO BACK UP. THE MOTOR RUNS, IT MAKES A SOUND, BUT WINDOW DOES NOT MOVE. I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE MY CAR PARKED IN A MEDICAL CENTER PARKING GARAGE DURING MY WORK SHIFT 4:00PM TO 12:00AM. OF COURSE, IT WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR ME, A YOUNG FEMALE, TO RETURN TO MY OPEN CAR AND HAD TO BE ESCORTED BY A SECURITY OFFICER. I THEN DROVE THE 25 FREEWAY MILES HOME COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. HAVING GOOGLED THE MALFUNCTION, I LEARNED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I AM ASTOUNDED TO ALSO LEARN THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. AS A COLLEGE STUDENT, I AM NOT FINANCIALLY ABLE TO INCUR THIS EXPENSE, NOR DO I THINK I SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO, AND AM ASKING THAT CHRYSLER PERFORM REPAIRS ON ALL FOUR WINDOWS AT NOT COST TO ME. LEFT REAR WINDOW FELL WITH A LOUD BANG. CAR HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND GARAGED. MILEAGE AROUND 30,000. DEALER FIXED IT FOR A CHARGE OF $550.00. I HAVE BEEN ON LINE AND FIND THAT THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM BECAUSE OF DEFECT IN THE WINDOW CONTROLLER. THIS IS A DEFECT AND IT IS WRONG FOR CUSTOMERS TO BE SADDLED FINANCIALLY WITH THIS ISSUE. I PULLED UP TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. THE PASSENGER LOWERED THE PASSENGER FRONT-SIDE WINDOW USING THE ELECTRICAL BUTTON. NOW THE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN EITHER FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IN CHICAGO, THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS. TODAY WAS THE 3RD TIME MY WINDOW ELECTRICAL WINDOW MECHANISM HAS BROKE. THE FIRST TIME, CHRYSLER PAID TO FIX IT AS IT WAS ONE OF THEIR - HIDDEN - DEFECTS THAT THEY DO NOT WISH TO PUBLISH. NOW THEY SAY THAT THEY NO LONGER COVER THE DEFECT AS THE CAR IS OLDER. IF THERE IS A DESIGN ISSUE AND A KNOWN ONE, SHOULD THEY NOT HAVE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT? I HAVE A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR IN MY BACK RIGHT WINDOW. I HAVE HAD EACH WINDOW FIXED AT LEAST ONCE DUE TO A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR. I HAVE ONE WINDOW FIXED TWICE. THIS ISSUE WAS PREVIOUSLY COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE LATEST ISSUE OCCURRED AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANT EXPIRED. CURRENTLY THE BACK RIGHT WINDOW WON'T STAY UP. I'VE PUSHED IT UP ON A WEEKLY BASIS AND IT SLOWLY FALLS. I'M CONCERNED THAT PRETTY SOON I'LL HAVE TO KEEP THE WINDOW UP USING TAPE OR OTHER MEASURES. IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOW CONSTANTLY FALLING, ESPECIALLY IF AND WHEN I HAVE CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR. *JS
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE NEAR CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK. THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR SYSTEM BROKE ON THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR, THUS ALLOWING THE WINDOW TO FREE FALL INTO THE DOOR FRAME. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR OF JEEP. THEN NOW IN DECMEBER, THE DRIVERS WINDOW MOTOR SYSTEM HAS BROKEN AGAIN CAUSING THE GLASS WINDOW TO FREE FALL INTO THE DOOR FRAME. IF THIS IS ALL TRUE ABOUT THIS SYSTEM, AND THE FACT THAT I NOW HAVE 2 BROKEN POWER WINDOW MOTORS WHICH WILL COST ME NEARLY $900 TO FIX, I FEEL THIS ITEM SHOULD BE ON A NATIONAL RECALL LIST FOR JEEP TO REPLACE THESE ITEMS SO THEY WILL NOT FAIL. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT COULD CAUSE GLASS TO BREAK DURING DRIVING TIME AND INJURING DRIVERS. *TR
THE LIFT PLATES ON ALL SIDE WINDOWS OF JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES CAN BE DEFECTIVE. THE WINDOW WILL UNEXPECTEDLY COMPLETELY DROP DOWN. CHRYSLER CORPORATION ACCEPTS THE FACT THERE ARE WINDOW DEFECTIVE LIFT PLATES. THEY EXTENDED THE VEHICLE WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE LIFT PLATE PARTS IF THEY FAIL. TO MY KNOWLEDGE CHRYSLER CORPORATION DID NOT NOTIFY OWNERS ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FOUND THIS INFORMATION OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR WINDOW REPAIR AT THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP (THE FARICY BOYS CHRYSLER, JEEP) ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2013. CHRYSLER KNEW ALL THE SIDE WINDOW PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE, BUT WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE WINDOW LIFT PLATES THAT WERE NOT WORKING ON THAT DAY. ANOTHER SIDE WINDOW LIFT PLATE ON THE SAME VEHICLE FAILED ON MAY 30, 2013. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND A WINDOW COMPLETELY DROPS DOWN IT CAN STARTLE THE DRIVER AND IS A DISTRACTION THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR AT THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THE COST OF REPAIR NEEDED TO BE PAID BY THE OWNER. IN SUMMARY, CHRYSLER CORPORATION KNEW THE SIDE WINDOW LIFT PLATES ARE DEFECTIVE, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE ALL THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO ORDER A MANDATORY RECALL AND REQUIRE CHRYSLER TO FIX ALL WINDOW LIFT PLATES ON THE JEEP LIBERTIES. A DEFECTIVE LIFT PLATE CAN CAUSE THE WINDOW TO UNEXPECTEDLY DROP DOWN AND CAN PRESENT DRIVER CONFUSION AND A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING.
