WATER IS LEAKING, POSSIBLY FROM THE SUN ROOF, THROUGH THE FRONT DOME LIGHT OVER THE STEREO. (WHERE THE BUTTONS ARE TO OPEN THE SUN ROOF)
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, PUMP TURNS OFF AFTER EVERY 1/4 GALLON OF GAS, DUE TO FAULTY INTEGRAL GAS TANK VENT VALVE. OCCASIONALLY RESULTING FROM OVER FILL AND SPILLING GAS ONTO GROUND. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF JEEP THAT NO AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE COULD PREVENT. JEEP'S RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT WAS TO REMIND ME MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT SHOULD I HAVE IT REPAIRED [$600 TO $1000 FOR NEW GAS TANK AND CONDENSER] TO SAVE THE RECEIPT IN CASE THERE IS A FUTURE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM.
CLOCK SPRING DEFECTIVE AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY ACCORDING TO INTERNAL LIGHT DUE TO DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING. CLOCK SPRING WAS EXTENDED COVERAGE ON JEEP WRANGLER, BUT NOT PATRIOT.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE, SO I TOOK IT TO A JEEP MECHANIC. THE FRONT AND REAR CROSSMEMBERS ARE ROTTED TO HELL ON MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MULTIPLE JEEP DEALERSHIPS THAT HAVE RECOMMENDED IT BE REPLACED, AND JEEP WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE EVEN WORSE. NOW I BELIEVE MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND IT LOOKS AS IF IT IS GOING TO CRUMBLE ANY DAY NOW. I REALLY WISH JEEP WOULD HAVE JUST DID THE RIGHT THING AND SWAPPED IT OUT. IT REALLY MAKES ME NERVOUS AND I AM GOING TO MOST LIKELY HAVE IT REPLACED OUT OF MY POCKET JUST TO REST ASSURED. IT ONLY HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CAR FALL APART SO FAST.
EVERYTIME WIFE FILLS THE FUEL TANK, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. 80% OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS IN THE INTERSECTION LEAVING THE FUEL STATION. SHE HAS ALMOST BEEN IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. SHE LOOSES POWER STEERING AS THE PUMP IS NO LONGER RUNNING BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN. JEEP DEALER SAYS THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM, AND THAT THE FUEL TANK IS THE CULPRIT. THE OVERFLOW VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK IS FAULTY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. THIS NEED TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.
AFTER FILLING GAS TANK AT ANY GAS STATION, THE VEHICLE STARTS AND DRIVES APPROXIMATELY 100 TO 200 FEET AND STALLS. THIS IS NORMALLY IN TRAFFIC WHILE STARTING OUT AT AN INTER-SECTION. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS.
EVERY TIME I GET GAS MY JEEP BUCKS AND STALLS FOR A FEW DAYS. IT BUCKED AND STALLED PROBABLY A DOZEN TIMES ON MY WAY HOME FROM GETTING GAS YESTERDAY. I JUST READ A WHOLE PAGE OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FUEL TANK BEING FAULTY LETTING LIQUID GAS IN THE MANIFOLD (SOMETHING LIKE THAT) BUT IT'S DANGEROUS AND IT'S A DEFECT OBVIOUSLY. STALLING WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY RAMP TO A 75 MPH ROAD IS SCARY. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW YEARS BUT IT'S EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I'VE PAID MECHANICS TO REPAIR IT BEFORE BUT THEY MISDIAGNOSE IT AND CHARGE ME TO DEAL WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION FLUID ETC. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. REPAIR IS $1200 AND MY JEEP ONLY HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
TAKATA RECALL BATTERY LIGHT/ ALTINATOR
FOR THE PAST YEAR, AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AND DRIVING 1/2 TO 1 MILE THE ENGINE SPUTTERS/BUCKS AND CUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY FILL-UP. YES, EVERY FILL-UP. I DON'T OVER FILL, I JUST STOP FILLING WHEN THE PUMP CLICKS OFF. I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL SO AS NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE I LIVE, I COULD BE KILLED. I READ ABOUT THE PROBLEM ON A JEEP FORUM AND FOUND ABOUT THIS WEBSITE SO I THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT DUE TO THE DANGEROUS CONDITION.
AFTER FILLING UP GAS AT HALF A TANK THE CAR STALLS TRYING TO SHUT OFF AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE SO THERE'S NO POWER TO STEER OR BRAKE SAFELY IN TRAFFIC. AT STOPS, THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF.
SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, IT STALLS AND SPUTTERS FOR 3-60 SECONDS. THIS HAPPENS AFTER EVERY REFUEL. DURING MOST FILL UPS I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND AFTER THE FILL UP I GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND GET UP TO 60-70MPH, WHEN IT SPUTTERS AT THIS SPEED THE CAR JERKS AND I BRIEFLY LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE BECAUSE GAS WILL NOT PUMP DURING THE SPUTTERING. IF I FILL UP WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY THE JEEP SIMPLY JUST DIES IF THE RPM ARE UNDER 900 OR IF IT'S IDLING. EVERYTHING ON THE JEEP IS STOCK, NO AFTERMARKET PARTS. I HAVE SEEN REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS OTHER JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS. I AM UNSURE OF THE PART CAUSING THE ISSUE.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK COMPLETELY, THE CAR STALLS. FROM READING POSTS ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. CAR WAS IN GEAR, ON A BUSY ROADWAY AND STALLED AT THE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING THE TANK.
K FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED. K FRAME IS UNDER THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN. THE FRONT WHEEL SUSPENSION IS ALSO ATTACHED TO K FRAME.
THE VEHICLE HAS SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH STEM MAINLY FROM CORRODING WIRES. I'VE HAD IT AT 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS, & 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ALL FOR THEM TO TELL ME EITHER THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT OR THAT THEY CAN JUST START REPLACING WIRES & HOPE FOR THE BEST BASICALLY EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T WORTH PUTTING THE MONEY INTO AT THIS POINT. THE ELECTRICAL HAS EFFECTED MY BATTERIE (I'VE HAD TO REPLACE 3 BATTERIES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS), AT THIS POINT I HAVE TO HAVE IT ON A BATTERY CHARGER 24/7 WHEN IT ISN'T RUNNING BECAUSE THE IT JUST DRAINS MY BATTERY & WON'T START, 4WD SOMETIMES IT WORKS BUT SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T, AIR CONDITIONING, ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM (WHEN I'D SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF & PULL THE KEY OUT, IT'D STILL BE RUNNING UNTIL IT FINALLY CHOKED ITSELF OUT). I'VE $3,000 INTO THE NEW COMPUTER, $1,000 INTO CORRODING WIRES, & NUMBER NEW BATTERIES AS WELL. AT THIS POINT IT'S A LOST CAUSE. EVERY MACHENIC I'VE SPOKE WITH STATES THAT THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ARE EXTREMELY COMMON WITH JEEP PATRIOT, COMPAS, & COMMANDERS. THEY RECOMMEND FOR PEOPLE NOT TO PURCHASE THEM.
THE FRONT SUB FRAME WAS ROTTED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007. IT CURRENTLY HAS ~45,000 MILES ON IT. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR IT BEGAN TO STALL AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL. IT MAY RUN FOR A SHORT TIME.....LONG ENOUGH TO PULL OUT FROM THE PUMP AND INTO TRAFFIC AND THEN STALL. IT HAS ALWAYS RESTARTED, BUT ON OCCASION STALLS AGAIN, OR MAY BUCK. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT SO FAR. FOR SAFETY REASONS, I HAVE BEGUN TO LET IT RUN FOR A BIT AFTER FILLING BEFORE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. I DO NOT TOP OFF THE TANK ONCE THE SENSOR SHUTS THE PUMP OFF. IF I SHUT OFF THE PUMP BEFORE FULL, IT HAS NOT STALLED. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY CLAIMED NOT TO HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, BUT I HAD FOUND ONLINE FORUMS WHERE OTHER OWNERS DISCUSSED EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE ONLY REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK...AN EXPENSIVE PROPOSITION. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW AND PRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
CRADLE FRAME ASSEMBLY IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND REPLACEMENT COST QUOTED AS $1500, OR THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS PENNSYLVANIA INSPECTION.
REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. THE ENTIRE DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED BY JEEP THROUGH UNLIMITED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. PROBLEM SOLVED. -THE FRAME AND BODY BEGUN TO RUST. THE PROBLEM STARTED TO APPEAR WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT UP TO JEEP. JEEP DECLINED TO FIX OR ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. -ENGINE STALLS EVERY 11 SECONDS. FAULTY CODE SHOWS: P2107: THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL MODULE PROCESSOR. THE THROTTLE MODULE WAS REPLACED TWICE. PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. VERY UNSAFE DUE TO LOSS OF STEERING. CURRENTLY, THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE - PROBLEM NOT FIXED. REQUEST RESEARCH HELP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR AN INSPECTION AND THE INSPECTOR INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT PASS DUE TO THE SUB FRAME HAVING BEEN SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE LEVEL OF CORROSION WAS CONFIRMED AND DIAGNOSED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,069. UPDATED 04/18/17LJ *CN
I HAVE A LITTLE OVER 70,000 MILES, AND THE SUBFRAME OF MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY ROTTED AND NEEDS REPLACED. I CONTACTED JEEP ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO.
I BOUGHT THIS JEEP USED AND THE FIRST TIME IT RAINED, WATER CAME IN FROM THE SUNROOF INTO THE CAR, THERE WAS WATER IN THE DOME LIGHTS, RUNNING OUT OF THE HEADLINER, RUNNING THROUGH THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. NOW I SEE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BUT CHRYSLER HAS NOT RECALLED OR DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT IN THE CURRENT MODEL YEAR. I AM AFRAID FO RMY SAFETY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH WATER COMING IN CONTACT WITH ELECTRONICS OR WATER COMING INTO MY FACE, ON MY STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A DISTRACTION. I HOPE THE NHTSA WILL HELP AND FORCE THE MFR TO FIX THIS FOR ALL OF US JEEP OWNERS. *TR
ROTTING SUBFRAMES, FRONT AND REAR. ENGINE DRAIN DRIPS ONTO FRONT SUBFRAME, KEEPING THE SUBFRAME WET AND CAUSING IT TO RUST OUT. JEEP RECALLED THE 2007 MODEL YEAR TO REPLACE THE SUBFRAMES BUT NOT THE 2008 YEAR, YET THE DESIGN FLAW PERSISTS. ROTTING SUBFRAME CAUSED VEHICLE TO FAIL ANNUAL NH STATE INSPECTION. VEHICLE WAS BUILT AND SOLD IN WHAT CHRYSLER CALLS A "RUST BELT". SO, CHRYSLER CONFIRMS THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY FIXES IT FOR 2007, NOT 2008.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE UPPER REAR CONTROL ARM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A LOUD RATTLING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ISSUE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. UPDATED 01/27/17*LJ

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME CROSS MEMBER WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING MAINTENANCE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CORROSION CREATED A HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,348.
DRIVING BACK FROM VISITING MY BROTHER IN PITTSBURGH ON MON. 10-10-2016 ON THE PA TURNPIKE I HEARD A WEIRD NOISE UNDERNEATH MY JEEP UP FRONT SOUND LIKE A LIGHT SQUEAKING NOISE BUT COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS I WAS DEBATING ON DROPPING MY JEEP OFF AT MY MECHANIC TO CHECK IT OUT BUT WE GOT HOME TOO LATE DROVE JEEP TO DR APPT THAT WEEK ON A WEDNESDAY FOR TEST RESULTS DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROADS ONLY HEARD THE SQUEAKING NOISE UNTIL I HIT A LITTLE POT HOLE ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE ON THE BACK ROADS GOING ABOUT 25 MPH & HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND NO MATTER WHEN I HIT A LITTLE BUMP WITH THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA I HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE LIKE A BALL JOINT OR SHOCK I CALLED MY MECHANIC TO TELL HIM I WAS DROPPING OFF THE JEEP AND TOLD HIM THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING. AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF I WAS INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY THAT MY FRONT SUB FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THE BOLT HOLE WAS RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME AND BROKE BREAKING MY CONNECTION TO MY RIGHT CONTROL ARM AND RECOMMENDED ME TO REPLACE THE SUB FRAME AND BOTH CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH SIDES DUE TO THE RUST ON THE LEFT SIDE ALSO BEFORE THAT TOO BROKE OFF. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DIFFERENT SCENARIO IF THIS WOULD OF HAPPEN ON THE PA TURNPIKE HEADING HOME TO COOPERSBURG, PA OVER 200 MILES ONE WAY THE MAN ABOVE WATCHED OVER US THAT DAY THE JEEP ONLY HAS 36,192 MILES ON IT THE PICTURES BELOW BAD--DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT OF SUB FRAME TOTALLY INSIDE RUSTED AREA-MAJOR PROBLEM / GOOD IS PASSENGER SIDE AS YOU CAN SEE THE HOLE AND THE INSERT INSIDE IS NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY. I WOULD THINK IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PART WHICH IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WHEN FUELING THE FUEL BACKS UP AND SHUTS THE PUMP OFF AFTER JUST A FEW CENTS AT A TIME TAKING 20 MINUTES TO FUEL AND HAVING FUEL SPRAY ON ME AND ALL OVER MY CAR OVER AND OVER. VERY DANGEROUS! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS NOT A RECALL AFTER READING ABOUT SO MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY MOTHER OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. I WAS DRIVING HER CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH. APPARENTLY, THE CAR WANTED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED. DUE TO AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY, I WAS ABLE TO REDUCED THE SPEED SAFELY. WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE LANES TO THE RIGHT, THE SIGNAL SPARK AND/OR CAUSED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO GO ON. THE A/C CANNOT BE ON WHILE DRIVING EITHER. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT IS CAUSING ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS TO HAPPEN ALL AT ONCE. I'M AFRAID TO HAVE MY MOTHER CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR. SHE ONLY DRIVES ON LOCAL STREETS, BUT THIS TOO CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK HER CAR 2 YEARS AGO TO A JEEP DEALER TO REPAIR AN ELECTRICAL SHORT ON THE HATCH DOOR DUE TO IT GETTING WET. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RUBBER MOLDINGS AROUND THE HATCH DOOR, BUT IT HAS RETURNED. AND AGAIN THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. ALL OF THESES PROBLEMS KEEP PERSISTING AND SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE.
FRONT SUBFRAME CROSSMEMBER CORROSION, HOLE RUSTED IN CROSSMEMBER EFFECTING SAFETY. AS REPORTED TO ME BY MY REG. LOCAL MECHANIC WHILE HE WAS PREFORMING OTHER MAINT.ON VEHICLE AS IT WAS RAISED ON VEHICLE LIFT. (SUGGESTED IT WAS DEALER REPAIR) PER TSB 23-012-14 THE PRIOR YR MODEL WAS RECALLLED FOR SAME REASON ON THE SAME PARTS.
REAR CROSSMEMBER/SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY RUSTED THROUGH IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS RESULTING IN LARGE HOLES AND THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNTS TO DETACH FROM THE FRAME AND ROTATE WHILE SHIFTING CAUSING EXCESSIVE NOISE AND DAMAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS AND EPS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,300.
TOOK VEHICLE IN POSSIBLE SHOCK REPLACEMENT, TIRE BALANCING AND/OR NEW TIRES. WAS NOTED THAT THE CROSSMEMBER WAS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. WHEN CHECKED FOR SERVICE BULLETINS, WAS FOUND THAT THE 2007 PATRIOTS ARE UNDER RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. CONSIDERING THIS IS A 2008 PATRIOT, BUILT IN 2007, IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME BECAME INOPERABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
I TOOK MY JEEP PATRIOT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO PUT A HITCH ON THE BACK FOR A BIKE RACK, AND HE NOTICED THAT MY SUBFRAME/CROSS MEMBER WAS IN DIRE NEED OF REPLACEMENT DUE TO RUST. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A JEEP DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN THESE EARLY GEN. PATRIOTS, AND THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED BY JEEP (CHRYSLER ACTION # 23-012-1) FOR THE 2007 PATRIOT AND COMPASS MODELS. THE DETAILS OF THE RECALL WOULD BE THAT JEEP WOULD COVER THE COST TO REPAIR THE ROTTED SUB FRAMES IN THE 2007 PATRIOTS MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO JULY 2007, AND THE ELIGIBILITY FOR COVERAGE UNDER THIS RECALL IS DECIDED BY VIN NUMBER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT MY JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER JULY 2007, BUT PURCHASED IN MARCH 2008 AND THUS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE SAME RECALL. NOW, I AM CURRENTLY HAVING ISSUES WITH MY PATRIOT'S STEERING AND DECELERATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I EXPERIENCE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND VIBRATIONS THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE WHILE GOING SPEEDS OVER 50MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON A RAMP, THE ISSUES ARE THE MOST PRONOUNCED. I HAVE TO BE DILIGENT ABOUT BRAKING SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE SURE THE CAR IS DECELERATING SAFELY AS WELL AS THE STEERING FEELING EXTREMELY LOOSE. I'VE CONTACTED JEEP TO SEE IF THE ISSUE WITH THE SUB FRAME ROTTING WOULD BE COVERED IN THE 2008 PATRIOT MODEL, SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE AS THE 2007S HAD AND HAD NOT BEEN CORRECTED. I HAD NO LUCK TALKING TO A REPRESENTATIVE WITH JEEP ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MY TICKET WITH JEEP WAS CLOSED BY CUSTOMER SERVICE AFTER THE E-MAIL REP. DIRECTED ME TO PURCHASE A WARRANTY WITH JEEP OR VISIT A DEALER (WHICH I'D ALREADY DONE). WE ARE BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO FIX THE SUB FRAME THIS WEEK. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, YY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WITH 106,000 WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO A RUSTED FRONT CROSSMEMBER. THERE IS NO OTHER RUST ON THE VEHICLE. THE 2007 JEEP PATRIOTS/COMPASS AND DODGE CALIBERS ALL HAD THEIR WARRANTIES EXTENDED SO THAT THE CROSSMEMBER COULD BE REPLACED. BASED ON INVESTIGATION THROUGH THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT MANY 2008 JEEP PATRIOTS & COMPASSES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT CONSUMERS ARE NOT BEING NOTIFIED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE ROTTED FRAME IS NOT VISIBLE SO DRIVERS WOULD BE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT LIMITED DOWN THE STREET AND HIT A POT HOLE AND WITH IN SECONDS IT SOUNDED LIKE A FLAT TIRE. I PULLED INTO THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT AND GOT OUT THERE WAS NO FLAT TRIED TO DRIVE IT AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS LOCKED I TOOK THE BRAKES APART AND THE PARKING BRAKE ON THE ONE SIDE COMPLETELY FELL OUT IN MY HANDS. THE BRAKE CLIPS RIPPED OUT OF THE DUST COVER AND THE ADJUSTER FELL INTO TO THE DRUM AND LOCKED THE BRAKES UP. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY DOING 30 WHEN IT HAPPENS AND SLOWED DOWN OTHER WISE IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY I COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
AT ANY GAS PUMP I GO TO I CAN ONLY PUT IN ABOUT A GALLON OR SO BEFORE THE PUMP SHUTS OFF OR OVERFLOWS. IT DOES THIS REPEATEDLY UNTIL I HAVE FILLED MY TANK. I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE WITH PATRIOTS IN FORUMS AND NO ONE CAN SEEM TO PINPOINT AN ISSUE OTHER THAN REPLACING THE GAS TANK. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS WITH A FAULTY VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE AND DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD BE HAVING THIS ISSUE. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP OR FEEDBACK. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

WENT TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE OF NOISE WHEN TURNING. THE PROBLEM WAS A CRACKED RUSTED OUT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH IN THE 2007 PATRIOT AND PROVIDED AN EXTENDED 10YEAR WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO SUPPORT THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE VEHICLE HAS 66K MILES.
