I WAS DRIVING ALONG ABOUT 45 WHEN MY TIE ROD WENT. BARELY ESCAPED CRASHING MY CAR. FRONT TIRE TURNED SIDE WAYS, LEAVING MY CAR SQUALLING UNCONTROLLABLE DOWN HILL. THANK GOD THERE WASN'T OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME, OR DRIVING ANY FASTER THAN I WAS! NEIGHBOR CAME RUSHING OUT HEARING THE SQUEALING FROM MY TIRES, THINKING THERE HAD BEEN ACCIDENT! SO SO SCARY. IT COULD HAVE KILLED ME! TIE ROD WERE REPLACED JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, AND AGAIN THEY ARE FAILING. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT!! I'VE REPLACE THE TIRES THREE TIMES IN THREE YEARS! ROTORS, BREAK PADS, BALL JOINTS. IT'S A MONEY PIT! SE PROBLEMS KEEP REPEATING. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!
THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE JEEP IN FOR REPAIR 4 TIMES MAKING A NOISE IN THE BACK BRAKES THAT WAS FRIDAY THE 6/20/2014 AND AGAIN TODAY WITH NOISE IN THE FRONT BRAKES THEY TOLD ME AT MONRO MUFFLER HERE IN HERKIMER NEWYORK 13350 THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES IN THE FRONT BUT THEY STILL ARE RUBBING AFTER LEAVING THERE I WENT TO A STORE A LITTLE DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON THEY TELL ME IT ONLY THE GAS CAP I JUST GOT THIS CAR 6/13/20014 THE CAR SALES WAS HERE IN HERKIMER KAMART PARKING LOT VISION IS THE NAME OF THE CAR DEALER MY TOTAL FOR THIS CAR IS $12,697.92 I WANT THEM TO TAKE THIS CAR BACK I DON'T WANT IT PLEASE DO SOMETHING FOR ME THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 30 MPH AND THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERHEATING AND NEEDED TO RESUME TO NORMAL TEMPERATURE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
VEHICLE STALLS AFTER REFUELING. FILL UNTIL CLICK, NO TOPPING OFF. LEAVE THE GAS STATION AND GET ON THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE AND JERK FORWARD, THEN STALL. RESTARTS RIGHT AWAY. ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT TWICE, REAR END, AND T-BONE. I TRIED SEVERAL EXPERIMENTS. FILLING TO 3/4 DOES NOT CAUSE THE ISSUE. TRIED GAS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, WITH THE SAME RESULTS. AFTER SEVERAL MONTH OF 3/4 REFUEL, I TRIED A FULL REFUEL AGAIN. THERE IS EXCESSIVE GURGLING AFTER A FULL REFUEL COMING FROM THE TANK. STALLED 4 TIMES ON MY 2 MILE DRIVE HOME. VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO TRAFFIC INTERSECTIONS. ALSO STALLS AT TRAFFIC LIGHT AFTER FULL REFUEL. *TR
THE LEFT TIE ROD IS BAD AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
STARTED HEARING A "WHINING" NOISE IN THE FRONT END/ENGINE AREA OF THE VEHICLE AND AFTER ABOUT 10-15 MORE MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND CAME TO A STOP. AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE, IT WOULD START BACK UP AND RUN JUST LONG ENOUGH TO GET IT TO A TECHNICIANS SHOP. TECHNICIAN RAN SOME TESTS AND FOUND OUT THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING BECAUSE THERE WERE METALLIC PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS, AND HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE/POWERTRAIN AND YET JEEP DOES NOTHING ABOUT THIS. I AM OUT $4000.00 BECAUSE I HAVE TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION AT 80K MILES!! RIDICULOUS!! TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST WAY LONGER THAN THAT AND DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS, THIS WAS NOT A "FLUKE" OCCURRENCE. *TR
THE CLOCKSPRING FAILED. THE FAILURE CAUSES MY AIRBAG LIGHT TO INTERMITTENTLY COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE TURNS DIRECTION AND/OR ACCELERATES FROM A DEAD-STOP TO CRUISING SPEED. THE PART NUMBER IS 05156106AD. THE CUTTER DODGE/JEEP DEALERSHIP IN PEARL CITY, HAWAII INFORMED ME THAT THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, NOR UNDER MANUFACTURER RECALL DESPITE [JEEP] HAVING RECEIVED A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS, SO CUTTER WANTED $600 FOR PARTS AND SERVICE. THE PART IS ALSO USED IN THE COMPASS, WRANGLER, AND LIBERTY MODELS FOR THE SAME PRODUCTION-YEAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND THIS SPRING I'VE HAD TO REPLACE TWO CRACKED/FAULTY TPMS UNITS - AT SEPARATE TIMES. BOTH INCIDENTS WERE DISCOVERED DUE TO LOW PSI, A LEAKY VALVE STEM AND FLAT TIRES. ANY SINGLE REPAIR COULD BE WRITTEN OFF AS COINCIDENCE, BUT TWO OUT OF FOUR TIRES IS DISCONCERTING. *TR
ON A RETURN TRIP BACK HOME ON THE INTERSTATE, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING A "WHINING" NOISE. ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE A VACUUM LINE IS LOOSE, OR HAS COME OFF. ONLY HAPPENS ON ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION. STILL SHIFTS PROPERLY AND SMOOTHLY, BUT NOW MAKES NOISE. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, AND THE NOISE IS STILL THERE, BUT NO LOSS IN SPEED, MPG, OR SHIFTING QUALITY. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP A CONSTANT SPEED, THE NOISE ISN'T THERE, BUT IT APPEARS ON ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. VERY PERPLEXED. *TR
MY CAR STALLS FREQUENTLY AFTER FILLING IT UP WITH GAS. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP SENSOR IS BACKORDERED AND IS UNAVAILABLE. MY CAR FREQUENTLY STALLS WHEN PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD UNTIL THAT PART IT AVAILABLE, BUT I'M NOT IN A POSITION TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER ONE. *TR
I TOOK MY JEEP PATRIOT 2008 TO GET TWO NEW TIRES. I WAS TOLD THE REAR AXLE IS RUSTED AND CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THANK GOD I NEEDED TIRES. WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON MY JEEP ABOUT 87,000 I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR AND IS A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OVER THE BRIDGE GOING 40 MPH AND I NOTICE THAT THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON. THE ETC LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE REPAIR FACILITY AND SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT MY THROTTLE BODY WENT OUT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED THAT NONE OF THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE THE PART AND NONE OF THE AUTO PARTS HAVE AN AFTERMARKET. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED THAT THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER OF 18000 AND THEY DON?T KNOW WHEN I CAN GET AS PART OF MY VEHICLE. I CALLED JEEP CAC AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I OWNED A JEEP VEHICLE AND VERY UPSET. OF ALL THE VEHICLES THAT I OWNED, I NEVER HEARD THAT THE DEALERSHIP NOT HAVING THE PART IN STOCK. *TR
SUNROOF LEAKS BADLY CAUSING WATER TO POUR OUT OF DOME LIGHT AND OTHER PLACES. LEAVING EVERYTHING WATER SOAKED AND MUSTY SMELLING. CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR ELECTRICAL WIRING. THEIR HAS TO BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS TOO MANY COMPLAINTS AND ON MANY DIFFERENT YEARS OF JEEPS. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY JUST KEEP MAKING THEM AND GETTING BY WITH SO MANY VEHICLES STILL ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMEONE COULD GET HURT REALLY BAD IF IT CAUSES A FIRE. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE.
I TOOK THE JEEP IN FOR A OIL CHANGE. WHILE IT WAS UP IN THE AIR THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO SHOW ME THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS BADLY RUSTED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
OVER THE PAST YEAR MY JEEP HAS BEEN VERY SLUGGISH, ACCELERATES AT HIGHER RPM'S THAN NORMAL, "SHIFTS" ROUGH ( EVEN THOUGH IT IS A CVT AND DOESN'T HAVE GEARS). FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND THEN PROCEED TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE TURN, MY JEEP HESITATES TO ACCELERATE, THE RPM'S PLUMMET AND THEN REACH TO OVER 3000 RPM'S BEFORE IT SLAMS/JERKS INTO GEAR TO RETURN TO AROUND 2000 RPM'S. TWICE MY JEEP HAS SHUTTERED AND STALLED WHILE AT RED LIGHTS. LAST WEEK AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND DINGING AT ME. MY JEEP WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL 8 FEET FROM MY DRIVEWAY. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART MY JEEP 3 TIMES, AND EVERY TIME I HAD THE SAME "LIMP MODE"/ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ISSUE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AT ALL. THE MANUAL STATES THAT "IF THE LIGHT IS FLASHING WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING YOU MAY EXPERIENCE POWER LOSS, AN ELEVATED/ROUGH IDLE, AND INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT, AND YOUR VEHICLE MAY REQUIRE TOWING. IMMEDIATE SERVICE IS REQUIRED.". THIS DOES NOT SOUND SAFE. I HAD IT TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED AUTO MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT REPLACED. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS 1,500-2,000 THROTTLE BODIES ON BACK ORDER AND I WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS TO EVEN RECEIVE THE PART. I'M GLAD THAT MY JEEP DID NOT STALL OR GO INTO "LIMP MODE" WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AS THIS COULD CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY, EVEN THOUGH I AM NOW MAKING CAR PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT RUN. THIS IS ALSO MY ONLY VEHICLE. THERE MUST BE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY TO HAVE 1,500-2,000 ON BACK ORDER AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. *TR
THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE, HOWEVER THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT ACCELERATING THE CAR. IT JERKED SEVERAL TIMES AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL THEN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE LIGHT CAME ON FOR A SHORT TIME THEN WENT OUT- I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC HE CONFIRMED THE CAR NEEDED THE THROTTLE BODY HOWEVER THERE ARE NONE ON LONG ISLAND THERE ARE MORE THEN 450 ON BACKORDER COMING FROM OVERSEAS!!!! IT HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR THE PAST WEEK AND I CANNOT GET IT FIXED. I AM AFRAID THE IT IS DANGEROUS. APPARENTLY IF I AM NOT ABLE TO FIND THIS PART ON LONG ISLAND THIS MAY BE AN ISSUE THAT JEEP CHRYSLER SHOULD BE ADDRESSING. THERE ARE ONLY 60K MILES ON THIS CAR. *TR
THE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE CAR'S SPEED DROPPED TO ZERO CAUSING ME TO QUICKLY PULL OFF THE ROAD, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE/THROTTLE BODY HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS PART IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER SINCE THERE ARE OVER 700 OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION SINCE YOUR CAR JUST DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND YOU COULD EASILY BE IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION. THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO HUNDREDS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS, IT SEEMS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR A PART MALFUNCTION. *TR
2008 JEEP PATRIOT BEGAN MAKING CLUNKING/CRACKING NOISES FROM THE FRONT END AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. TOOK INTO LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND THEY STATED THE BALL JOINTS WERE IN VERY POOR CONDITION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED VIA FRONT END LOWER CONTROL ARMS. AFTER SEEING WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE, TOOK TO AN ALIGNMENT SHOP. WHILE DRIVING TO THIS SHOP, BRAKES BEGAN GRINDING. BALL JOINT FAILURE CAUSED BRAKES AND CALIPER TO BE MISALIGNED ON THE ROTOR CAUSING THE ROTORS TO BE DAMAGED. MECHANIC PRESSED IN MOOG BALL JOINTS THEY SAID WOULD BE SUPERIOR TO OEM PARTS AND THAT THEY REPLACE BALL JOINTS ON PATRIOT, COMPASS AND CALIBER OFTEN. AFTER GETTING BALL JOINTS REPLACED, THE JEEP BEGAN HANDLING POORLY IN SNOW PACKED ROAD CONDITIONS, WHERE THE FRONT OF THE JEEP FEELS UNCONTROLLABLE AND WOULD SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE, ALL WHILE HAVING TOTAL CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. TOOK BACK TO JEEP, THEY SAID IT WAS A BALL JOINT ISSUE ONCE AGAIN AND THAT THE INNER TIE RODS WERE LOOSE, BUT DIDN'T THINK THAT A SLIGHTLY LOOSE TIE ROD WOULD CAUSE THE JEEP TO GO FROM SIDE TO SIDE. PURCHASED NEW TIRES, THINKING IT WAS AGING TIRES. NO LUCK AND VEHICLE OVER TIME HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON ROAD, EVEN ON REGULAR DRIVING CONDITIONS. TOOK TO GMC DEALER WHERE A WELL KNOWN JEEP MECHANIC WORKS. CONFIRMED TIE RODS ARE LOOSE AND STRUT IS LEAKING. FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS ANY TIME IT RAINS OR SNOWS WHEN I GET IN MY JEEP THE FIRST TIME THE BREAK IS TOUCH WATER POURS FROM THE DOME LIGHT LIKE A WATERFALL STREAM IT IS STAINING THE INTERIOR IT IS TRASHING THE CAR I CANNOT GET IT TO STOP WHAT IS THE WORST THING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A NON-PROGRAMMED KEY WAS USED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT ACTIVATED THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE KEYS NEEDED TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
AFTER SNOW MELTS OR HEAVY RAIN THE REAR DOME LIGHT FILLS WITH WATER & LEAKS ON TO FLOOR. *TR
I WAS LEAVING WORK AND THE CAR STARTED JUST FINE BUT THEN AS I WAS STARTING TO DRIVE IT STALLED OUT. IT STARTED BACK UP JUST FINE AND THEN DID THE SAME THING. THIS WENT ON SEVERAL TIMES. AND WHEN IT STALLS OUT, MY POWER STEERING IS GONE AND IT IS HARD TO GET IT TO A SAFE STOP. I AM WORRIED IF I TAKE IT OUT ON THE ROAD IT WILL STALL OUT AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL REVIEWS OF THIS PROBLEM WITH RECALLS ON THE 2009 MODEL BUT NOT THE 2008. *TR
MY JEEP PATRIOT CUTS OFF AND TO THIS DATE, I HAVEN'T RECEIVED AN ANSWER ON THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A NEW ALTERNATOR AND A BATTERY AND THAT DID NOT SOLVE THAT ISSUE. ON NOVEMBER 29, 2013, I DROVE THE CAR FROM STAMFORD, CT TO BRIDGEPORT, CT. I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR STARTED MAKING A NOISE AS IF SOMETHING WAS CLOGGED IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE OVER A SPEED OVER 15 MPH. THE VERY NEXT DAY, I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THERE IS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION IN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. HE STATED THAT ONLY A JEEP DEALER WOULD BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 14, 2014 AND THE CAR DID THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE NOISE (CLOGGED) AND THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK. AT THE TIME, I WAS IN NEW ROCHELLE, NY AND I DROVE STRAIGHT TO ADVANCE AUTO LOCATED ON MAIN STREET. THE TECHNICIAN ASSISTED ME AND HOOKED THE CAR UP TO THE SCANNER AND IT GAVE ME A CODE OF P2017. I PURCHASED SOME FUEL INJECTION CLEANER TO SEE IF THAT COULD HELP ME OUT. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 4-5 MILES AND THE CAR DIED. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO SEE IF I CAN GET THE CAR TOWED TO STAMFORD, CT. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN AND MECHANIC THAT JEEP PATRIOT HAVE A RECALL ON THE FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM. I'VE ALSO HAD SUSPENSION ISSUES ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. IT BEGAN IN JULY OF 2013. THE CAR HAS POOR STEERING AND I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY GET WHEEL ALIGNMENTS AND CHANGE THE FRONT TIRES. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THE JEEP PATRIOT HAVE A TON OF SAFETY RECALLS ON THE 2008 MODEL. I HAVE A SCHEDULED TOW TO HAVE THE CAR SERVICED AT THE JEEP DEALER. I WOULD LIKE THE RECALL ISSUE TO BE HONORED. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION ON ANY RECALLS BY THE MANUFACTURE. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I DO WANT TO INCUR ANY INJURIES OR FATALITIES. I AM PAYING A CAR NOTE ON THIS VEHICLE AND I FEEL AS I'VE BEEN ROBBED! *TR

THE CAR GASOLINE TANK WOULD ALLOW 2/10 OF A GALLON TO GO IN THEN SHUT OFF. WE HAD TO / HAVE TO (SAME PROBLEM NOW OCCURRING) REPEATEDLY DO THE LATTER TO FILL OUR TANK. THE FIRST TIME WE PAID OUT $400 WITH THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACING ONE OF THE TWO FUEL PUMPS. WE UNDERSTAND THERE IS A FUEL HOSE IN THE TANK OF THIS YEAR PATRIOT THAT HAD A RECALL AND WE WERE NEVER TOLD OR NOTIFIED. *TR
WHEN TAKING A TRIP TO THE GROCERY STORE. WHICH IS ABOUT 20 MILES FROM OUR RURAL HOME, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AN ONCOMING SEMI TRUCK WAS COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND WHEN HE PASSED ME, THE HOOD OF THE JEEP LITERALLY LIFTED UP ABOUT 1/2 INCH. WHILE DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY FROM OHIO TO NEVADA THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING QUIT RUNNING. THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON; THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS NORMAL; I WAS CONTINUALLY WATCHING THE DASH TO TRY TO KEEP THE RPMS STEADY (WHILE CLIMBING GRADES) AT APPROX. 3000 RPM MAX. FOR FUEL ECONOMY. THIS OCCURRED ON I-80 IN THE MIDDLE OF WYOMING. FORTUNATELY ( LUCKILY) I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE BERM. WHILE WAITING 1.5 HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK I OCCASIONALLY TRIED TO START THE ENGINE. IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START. AFTER A 30 MINUTE DRIVE ON THE TOW TRUCK TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM COOLED AND THE ENGINE DID START. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING UP A STEEP GRADE THE VEHICLE LURCHED. I TOOK IT THE DEALERSHIP IN RENO NV. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ALREADY IN EXISTENCE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE IN THIS VEHICLE'S COMPUTER AND TO INCLUDE A NEW FLASH DRIVE FOR THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE DRIVEN NEARLY 3000 MILES SINCE THEN WITHOUT A PROBLEM. HOW COULD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ( BRUNSWICK OHIO) NOT HAVE ALERTED ME TO NEEDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE? WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED. JEEP WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE AND WANT OVER $4000 FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT OF A TRANSMISSION THAT IS NOT ABLE TO BE SERVICE AND (ACCORDING TO OWNERS BOOK) NEEDS FLUID CHANGED AROUND 120K. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE THAT HAVE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT LOW MILEAGE. JEEP IS EVEN GETTING RID OF THE CVT IN THE NEW JEEP PATRIOT. I PARKED MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THE BANK FLAT PARKING LOT. I PUT IT IN N' AND PULLED THE E BRAKE AND PLACED MY KEYS IN THE CUP HOLDER OF THE JEEP. THIS ISSUE STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN OUR 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS OLD. ALMOST EVERY TIME WE FILL THE TANK WITH GAS, IMMEDIATELY TO WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE OF HOURS THE CAR WILL SHUDDER AND STALL, THEN IT HAS A HARD TIME RESTARTING. WE HAVE HAD THE VAPOR PURGE VALVE AND CANISTER CHANGED 3 TIMES WHICH SEEMED TO FIX IT THE FIRST 2 TIMES, BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY. THIS HAS BEEN QUITE DISTURBING SINCE IT HAS STALLED IN TRAFFIC, USUALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT OR TO MAKE A TURN, BUT A COUPLE OF TIMES IT STALLED WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE GAS STATION. IT IS USUALLY OK AFTER SITTING OVER NIGHT, BUT IT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE THE FOLLOWING DAY A FEW TIMES. NONE OF THE DEALERSHIPS OR REPAIR SHOPS THAT WE HAVE TALKED TO SEEM TO HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE. I HAVE FOUND THAT NOT TOPPING OFF THE TANK FULLY, THE ISSUE SEEMS TO OCCUR MUCH LESS OFTEN, BUT THE FEAR OF IT STALLING WHILE DRIVING IS CONSTANT, AND IS STILL A MAJOR ISSUE TO THIS DAY.

I REPORTED IT DURING THE FIRST YEAR, 2008 AND A FEW TIMES DURING 2009 AND 2010. I HAD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL EARLIER THIS YEAR. CHECKS BY DEALERSHIP CAME BACK, "NOTHING IS WRONG". THAT'S IT!! THIS YEAR THE PROBLEM GOT WORST, INTERMITTENTLY, MY HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNAL, WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. HAZARD LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. ONE DAY IT RAINED AND I REALIZED THE WIPERS DID NOT WORK, I HAD TO PULL OVER FOR SAFETY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SPEND ALL DAY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, UNPLUG THE COMPUTER, REBOOTED AND THEN EVERYTHING WORKED. FIVE HOURS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I GOT CHARGE 100 DOLLARS FOR THAT, NOW I HAD TO PAY TOTAL OF 317 DOLLARS BEFORE TAX FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO PUT IN WI FI BODY MODULE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THEY ALSO FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR TOW LINK WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND MISSING WHICH CAUSED THAT WHEEL TO BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND WAS PROVIDING A SIGNIFICANTLY BAD WEAR SITUATION FOR THE TIRES. SEEMS TO US THAT AFTER ONLY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 40,00 MILES THAT THESE COMPONENTS SHOULD STILL BE IN WORKING CONDITION. AFTER PAYING A LITTLE OVER $300.00 FOR THESE PARTS TO BE REPLACED, I AM WRITING THIS WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO RECOUP THIS MONEY. NOW AT 93K MILES AND A YEAR AND HALF LATER, I NEED BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED. THE ESTIMATE FOR THEM BOTH REPLACED IS $715. THAT'S OVER $1000 FOR SOMETHING THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT AND DOES NOTHING TO ASSIST THEIR CUSTOMERS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW, EVEN ORDERED FROM THE FACTORY, USING THE DISCOUNT MY COMPANY HAS WITH THEM, WE GET THE PREFERRED PRICE BEING A SUPPLIER FOR THEIR BEARINGS AND THIS IS THE QUALITY I GET? WHY EVEN PUT THE BEST BEARINGS IN THE WORLD ON THE JEEP IF YOU USE GARBAGE TO SUPPORT THE WHEEL? *TR
AFTER FUELING UP, MY JEEP SPUTTERS AND LOSES POWER TO THE POINT IS ALMOST STALLS. LAST NIGHT AFTER A FUEL UP IT STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. THIS IS TERRIBLY PROBLEMATIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. I HAVE HAD MY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE, SERVICES THE FUEL INTAKE, FILTERS, PUMPS AND THROTTLE BODY. HAD A TUNE UP DONE AND THE ENGINE IS STILL DOING THIS. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANY LONGER. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY! PLEASE ADVISE. *TR

AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES WE STARTED TO HERE "CLUNKING" WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, HAD IT IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR SUN ROOF LEAKS AND HAD THE DEALER TAKE A LOOK, BUT THEY COULD NEVER FIND ANYTHING. THIS WEEK HAD IT IN FOR THE 5-YEAR CHECK UP AND IN THE NOTES IT STATED THAT THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS ARE BAD. DID A SEARCH TO FIND OUT MORE DETAILS AND CAME ACROSS ALL THESE POSTS FROM OTHER USERS. LOOKS LIKE I'M NOW STUCK WITH A LARGE REPAIR, SIMILAR TO OTHER USERS, FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS AN ISSUE EARLY ON. ALL THE MILES HAVE BEEN HIGHWAY MILES. NOT AT ALL HAPPY RIGHT NOW.
